Sand melter does not use fenths

Now i'm pretty sure that independent items like my sand melter are supposed to be able to use fenths. I had 1 sand in my inventory and 4 fenths. It asked for the sand ID, i gave it, and it used the sand instead of the fenths.

Can this be fixed so that it looks for fenths as well? Or make it even better so that I don't have to enter in the ID each time? Thanks.

Sand Melters are a tool, not a cauldron type item. As far as I understand, only the cauldron type items use the fenths, otherwise it requires the real item.....just like memory stones, you cannot substitute them either for heat stones.

Oh, interesting. I didn't know there was a distinction between the two. I do remember the fenths being able to substitute for "basic" resources, maybe memory stone are not basic enough? Either way, i'll look into it. Thanks
