Defence ritual bug??

Hi,

When I make a ritual with just one creature and I select to use it when attacked by enemies, when I got attacked, the creatures that are defending are not just that one I selected but more five random creatures that I did not included in the ritual...

Is this a bug, or when I select less than 6 creatures to my ritual, the others are random???
