lepus Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 hey *attack huggs* does anyone here do any crafts irl? you know stuff like knitting, sewing (machine or hand), recycling objects? I do! am very big on the recyclying/reusing thing (always have been). I have a gallery of my work, what I've done so far if anyone is interested in seeing it I will post a link up for you. I'm very aware that some people couldn't care less about crafty stuff so I always ask for interest first incase am "shot down" (so to speak). lepus xxx Prince Marvolo and pamplemousse 2

Shadowseeker Posted June 12, 2010 Report Posted June 12, 2010 Metal work can be quite fun. Too bad I lack the machines to continue doing that in my spare time. Stuff like milling, etc.
lepus Posted June 12, 2010 Author Report Posted June 12, 2010 shadowseeker: i've always wanted a go at metalworking - welding etc but not got the chance too yet, the closest i've got to working with metal has been playing with coloured wire! first results were really really REALLY poor hence nothing on my gallery but if next attempt(s) are reasonable i might put them up
apophys Posted June 13, 2010 Report Posted June 13, 2010 Many years ago, I stripped twist-ties of their paper and crafted little "jewelry" of the wires. Unfortunately, none of this looks really good enough for anyone to wear. I also collected used staples around the house and linked them together in loops (with needlenose pliers) for necklace and bracelet chains. About 50 staples make a necklace, and 19 a bracelet. Interestingly enough, staple chains look pretty good. I used one such necklace, with a yin-yang symbol pendant on it, as a prop in a student film. A minor project of mine was to fix a broken coral necklace of my mom's, whose string was old and withered, by stringing a piece of dental floss through the corals. pamplemousse 1

[/quote] My uncle did that for awhile, but with actual metal wire that he made into loops, which then he linked into necklaces and chainmail things. It does look pretty awesome when finished.

pamplemousse Posted July 29, 2010 Report Posted July 29, 2010 I LOVE crafts! When I was little I would make clocks and books and knitted knee socks. But now I just make mosaics and jewelry, although sewing and gardening aren't really crafts, more like skills. I just made these really cool throw pillows out of vintage tablecloths and gave them to a friend for her birthday. I also made a lamp out of a blow torch and another one from a vintage camera! I want to do something with these old glass buoys I found in an antique shop at the beach, but I can't figure out what yet. I love the knitted bag, lepus!
lepus Posted July 29, 2010 Author Report Posted July 29, 2010 thank you pample! any pics of your craft-handiwork?

It was a nice way to keep my fingers busy during somewhat dry quantum chromo-dynamics lectures. Much more acceptable than kicking paper "soccer" triangles across the room when the prof wasn't looking. Cutler

phantasm Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 i like to do string art. Putting a ton of nails into a board in a design and then running a stiff string around them to form a picture. I have completed a sail boat about 4 years ago and since then have been working on huge project of a mill run by a river. I have a few pictures i can post if anyone wants to see. Just something I pick up in the RARE times I get a spare moment to actually do something besides work, housework, games, eating, sleeping, etc:D
