The Messaging system on the forum has several useful features that can be utilised when sending people messages. One such feature is that you can "invite" multiple people to the message. THis makes it much more like a threaded forum conversation than a personal message.

Also to stop spam and harassment there is a report button on each message someone sends you, under their details and avatar. This can be used to let the moderating team know of your complaint, and allow them to quickly deal with it.

Anyone in the conversation can invite others to the conversation. Meaning that whatever you say there wont necessarily be private between you and the other party if they wish to "add" another person to it.

When a report is filed the moderator can see just the one message that you reported, and your comment. It may be necessary to view the entire conversation so that we can possibly ascertain what happened. You do have the right to say you don't want someone to view it, but that wont help us in dealing with your report.

With these methods, Personal Messages are best treated as public property, similar to email, in the fact is that if someone is invited into the message they can add anyone else to it. Please remember this when sending other people messages that you might not necessarily want to be broadcast to the world. As with email, who you send the message too should dictate what you are happy saying.
