1.
Are they so ugly no one reply's on it? :S
LOL no its not THAT bad. Its actualy a good start.
Keep in mind that we'r looking for full figures tho.
U seem to draw what u think u see. Here's a hint. Hold up a pencil, and see it that is realy the curve the upper boddy takes. It might also help to check out some anatomy pictures befor drawing muscles

The mind makes figures simple. Just like the way u'd describe a christmas tree triangle and other tree's like a ball on a stick. Yet this is never true. Make's u wonder bout a lot of things u see no?

U'v got tallent and techniek, if u work a bit more on the knowledge u'l go far.

2. its getting pro in here... ;)

Note on the pencil softnes...starting from B4 to B9 u'l notice your pencil almost fading before your eye's. The softer it is...the more u'l need to sharpen or reload.

I trace to...but not much. i usualy have one of those wooden dol's to pose. Or one of my friends. The faster i want to work, the more i trace.

But wat's verry important : KNOW THE 3D VERSION!
knowing what it is that u'r drawing makes u'r lines "true" sort of speak, it wil translate more then just a border on your paper. Drawing muscles for example is one of those things where its vital.

pencilstrokes : its not common discusted and mostly taken for granted. In other words...the most important of all. This wil give your art "life". There are manny ways to make a line, be it curved or straight.
-thicknes or presure: a line starting with a lot of pressure and ending with it should be kept for finishing contrast in a drawing, not the sculpting. you can however use it in sculpting to give a short mark of shade to it for later reference.
-begin or end fade : by drawing the line behind an object for example just above your paper u get a feel to it. and landing even les then a mm in front of where it should start wil give it that "true" feeling. This is usualy learned in drawing perspective cones.
-hacks and slashes : the sculpting beginning! this is just fast ' and ( lines that give u point of reference. The beginning of a muscle, the crossing of a line, the position of the eye...just examples.

I wil post examples bout this real soon...scanner is broken now. Because this wil probably sound like jiberish

3. sagewoman

she was very specific :D white locks of hair, cleavage, dagger, staf that can change to sword, dreamcatcher, glowing eye's,...the whole deal. :)
I think i got it all...i HOPE i got it :D becouse dreamcatchers are a pain in the...you know. B)

Story is all lost with me, so i'l have her explain it if u meet her.

4. Penelope Lightmoon

this lady was one of my motivations during the contest, figures i return the favor :)

She aparently would like to become like the moon, or the light of the moon or somthing.
Last time she was enthousiastic bout the "feeling" in a picture, i try'd it with her...but failed :s
So i'l be drawing another one like this :D

5. Lady Ailith "the water nimpf"

Lady Ailith is probably know to every player who hangs around her bar. She plays this daily and has a popular role there. Right now, she is represented as a scarecrow...i HAD to change that.

She's playing a peacfull water nimpf traped in a human boddy, trying to find het water magic back.
It gous further that that, but u should read her personals for that.

I could not go all magical on her, becouse she stil needs to find that. If that happens, i'l just draw another , so a peacful person playing with some light water magic would sufice i figured.

6. .Gargant. "the word walker"

Gargant plays a lot like most players probably know. But he took an avatar just becouse it was the only thing in there. No problem in that, but if u play that much, u'd better have a face people can recognize.

Acording to his papers words and secrets always find there way to them. He trives on it, and uses it to his power. I went abstract on this and voila...here is the wordwalker.

7. I dont know what the other artists think about it, but i dont mind giving previeuws of the avatars i created. Auction or not...i believe u have the right to see what to save for.

I seem to make avatars directly for people, this way they can see what to look forward to.
Maybe the other artisians wil join me in this.

If you want to coment an avatar feel free. But keep it constructive.

8. i had the hardest time finding somthing to make if not directly to a person.

Now i'm a little more free and i look around for active players. i ask what they'd like.
If you dont play...i dont see you...you can pick whatever u see in the shop if its availeble. But then there is the next point.

I dont know bout the other artists, but i usualy spend 20 min/character just figuring out how to represent what they like to play. I for one dont like the idea of a metal bunny carefully sculpted on a guy with the name "notexistingdude"...but then i have no choise in the matter.

-daily voting for months becouse u cant steal your parents credit card...and then the rich dude runs with it. Dang...what was all the voting for then?

-you can play MD completely free... and then there is this? power to the bling? i think its a negative step.

-personalized? hey, i'm all for it! ask and thou shalt receive...someone else ran with it? I'l do it again!
however, after spending an hour working the avatar out, i'd like the person in question a 24h chanse to go and get it. Dont have it after then? I supose its not such a big deal then...open to all

-lev 2 avatars auctioned...now there is that fine line between "i bough myself 15k of vitality" players and "i spent 3 months making omlets for vitality", the second one wil have way more satisfaction in what he buys, and therefore more funn out of it. I dont even think they should be in a shop...they should be rewards.

-another point i have not found yet: how long is the auctioning? 2 days? 2 weeks? until the next batch of avatars? 2 days can keep prices relatively low. But longer times wil have inactive credit card users just overbid u again and again.

-In most economy's rare stuf is high price...these cost the same as the rest. U'd like to see economy in the game? by all means go and auction! But i'd hate for this game to gain the feeling of being a second job...

...long story short, keep going as it is. Program deleted players to lose there avatar back to shop.
use wishpoints for personalized avatars. dont auction in fear of economy!
in most economy's rare stuf is high price...these cost the same as the rest. U'd like to see economy in the game, by all

PS: its 6am by now...drawing avatars, but forgive me if i'm a bit "direct" in this post.

9. wel, i'm 24.

But they had to rip my mothers organs out becouse the pen was stuck behind it and they couldnt pry it from my baby fingers.
So you might say i started realy early to.
Never realy took classes. Just the ocasional torture-interogation of an artist i met somwhere.

Learned most by simply not erasing everything, and being open to criticisme.
Here is somthing good to know : if u cant stand coment, then dont show it!

10. wel DiKra is not the only one suprised.
somthing in me tels me they did it on purpose to create a suprise effect...and it worked.

Matters not, i just used the $ for creddits to :o

I remember DiKra and me discusting posible 3d's because we both agreed he was 1 and me 2or3 unles there where more sendings then we knew. :))

but meh. Result stay's the same... :D

PS: to all those people who start there comunication with me like "i liked DiKra's drawings better!" wel so did i, nothing i can do about it.

11. i'm not shure if this has been said or not. But if you want to learn to draw. You should have at least 3 books to draw in.

1) draw bals and elypses...the whole book, and if its wrong, point out why and do it again. After you filled the whole book with round balls instead of ...other shapes and elypses that look round instead of beans.
U'l have the hang of it :D Also good if u want to become a smiley master B)

2) everything is square! book 2...you probably learned about perspective in shool, time to use it. For a long time! take shapes u like for example, houses, trees, flowers...and go cube on them. Define them realy simpel and draw that, in correct perspective. Again, after a whole book...u'l be a cube expert. :D

3) who's ya stick figur?? If a stickfigur looks dull, its wrong to even try that pose. You should have this book with you at all times. Draw stickfigures like a madman! Every interesting pose u see, a stance by some good looking lady and the hulking of a bumm...all as interesting.
This book wil be used to shreds...becouse later on you'l always reflect on it for poses.
again: make it CORECT! if its wrong, point it out, and try again.

-pencils, start simpel HB to start with (dont know numbers) but try mechanikal, so u wont need an eraser.
And other reasons ...wich i'l come back to later. :))

- erasers...great for if someone else scribled in your book. But mistakes are a way of learning and recognizing the flaws. So dont erase to much, only if u'd hate yourself so much for it you'd like to hit yourself with a spiked pole. :o

-shade, by the time you can see every cube mistake in the movie "TRON" you'd wana shade. Take your elyps and cube books and go for it! You'l destroy half of your cubes u tought where good. And learn a LOT from it.

without these basics, you wont be able to corectly point out a muscle, or a foot, anything! i'l post some example's later on.

And befor anyone asks : yes, i did this to...and yes i stil start twitching if i think about it.

12. hey all!

Been out for a while, lots of scetches and other crap, but waited until i found somthing decent to send for the contest. I gues i'm already a bit late...so i'm posting my sending in here. Folowing the good example of DiKra

If anyone wants to see the build-up of anything just ask, i'l send u the steps.

I did the girl on the swing again, with a decent head and motion. Hope it looks better in avatar size then the other. :)

The warior was made 3 times, recoloring and armed with difrent things...stil not content.

It wil have to do :o, and DiKra...the body of that dude...i focused :D

the burning head dude was inspired on some low budget movie i'v seen. But looked ok when i scanned him in. I swear i did not intend it to.

the other 2 i already posted...but hey...gota keep somthing for if i'm alowed to join the guild

I swear i'l only draw when focused then Glor B)

13. Ok...i have no idea how i could overlook the head...but here's a new one. I'l photoshop it on there asap...but it's worthles for the competition now...(insert curse here)

Anyway, i'l keep the heels in mind to Penelope, they do seem a litle bit off...

EDIT: cubix had a pretty fun decription on his personal...so i figured i just HAD to draw it <_<

14. Haha this is great!

I must admit I imagined it differently when you described it.

The torso twist turned out great!

i'v been uploading my stuf, time to show some of your handywork dont you think <_<

why not follow me in this one after the contest? Just to see how you pictured it.

yea i hope there is no secret mayor artist holding back on us...i'm already feeling bad that there is more of us competing...dont forget Dex! He's been going at this a lot to!...

I'm thinking Glor should open more positions...hint hint

PS: this took me 2hours max. So you know how much time i'd need for requests...

15. Amorte the first two are very cool but don't fit with the game. The first sketch of the bone dragon has great form and motion to the composition. The second skeleton is very nice. I like the rendering on the torso, the look of the ribs... The eye flying out of the head... I could do without that, but it's well done.

First 2 where just to show how far i'm trying to draw from my original style. So u see the progres i'm going trough for this avatar stuf. I never expected them to fit ofcourse.

Bone dragon was just quick and such...but i can improve it if u like.

and the eye...wel, i was looking for an atention point to make up for the failed jaw drop...

So moral to the story? Il make drawings with the form and motion of the dragon with the rendering of the other one...without flying eyes. And maybe, just maybe...i can compete with DiKra and Dex

16. In any case, I was planing to submit these images for the contest. So before I bundle them and send them, tell me what you think; should I put more of something or remove something, or change something, or change my style. All input is appreciated, especially from the current draftsmen employed in the development of this game.

Ok...i'm not in the development and i have waaaay les techniek then you do. There are some things however that might give u a + ;)

-the size: the 5x3 ish size is in only 2 or so found. I dont know the importance to this ofcourse. But if i look at the shop, all of them in that proportion...yours wil look better, and smaller. :P But then, i'm shure u noticed to, some of the avatars in game are already square. :)

-Background blend: the avatars in game always blend in with the ald parchment look. The ones your sending in all have a verry light and hard to notice shade in the background to bring contrast to the rest of the figure. Wil this contrast fade with the photoshop cutout? Then again...i have no clue as to how that works, and the lines/composition are amazing so it might be unnoticable. :D

Wel...i did my part. The rest is for the people who know what they are saying...

17. wel...i'm 2 hours of drawing further. NOT at work this time...so tel me what u think. I also posted 2 normal's. If you like that direction better let me know. :)

O and DiKra...i tought it was "sneezing superchipmunk"

i dont know who said it but here's a quote i remember "the artists makes art, critics give it a meaning"

18. Well, the thing is, simple is good, but only if you draw it with all the complicated things in mind. For example, you must know what muscles are in the arm to draw the outline well. I must admit, I took some leisure and sent my brain somewhere else while I was doing most of these drawings, ... but they're ok I guess.

Detail without substance is pretentious. You will always get better reactions with a simple drawing of something rather than a complicated drawing that represents parts of what that something is made of. I hope you understand my gibberish.

i understand it perfect. i have a good knowledge of anatomy and gravitational disfigurment. but keep in mind that i'm doing this at work...i cant focus 100%

if u look at what i post...it should be obvious wich parts i focused

also been years since i used pecils. i mostly use a japanese brush-pen...no schading in other words

i'm off tomorow...today (3am)

i'l scribble somthing decent and finished for a change.

oh and fotoshop is coming in the 9th...so i'l figure that out after the contest

19. since you asked for my input...I would suggest that you use more detail...just my suggestion..and also try reading players personal pages about themselves...pretty good desriptions to help to know what they want us to draw....I think you are like me and draw better with direction....you are doing fine keep it up... :)

BlackThorn

that's just the problem. If you look at the avatars in-game and the creatures thus far...there is not a lot of detail in them. I usualy draw with TO much detail. And seeing DiKra's art, clean and yet deep, made me realize that. So i was trying to go simple...wrong direction hu?
