Root Admin Chewett Posted August 28, 2011 Root Admin Report Posted August 28, 2011 So, a while back Mur announced this:
Ann. 621 - [2008-12-28 18:16:52 - Alpha 8] Custom personal page layouts are now supported. To customize your personal page you need to upload a file names homepage.tpl in your personal files. To do so, open any document you have, edit it, and try to set a link on any word in it. Once the link settings dialog appears, click to upload a file (you can remove the link after). Once the homepage.tpl file is found in your personal folder, the player homepage will load that layout instead of the default one. Inside the template page you can use these tags to display predefined content sections anywere you like: [toplinks],[adepts],[equipment],[alliance],[creatures],[advertising],[adventurelog],[character],[weaponsets],[doc1],[doc3],[doc4],[doc5],[doc6] . You dont need to set html headers , just the layout. Also the background of the page is set by default. More sections, samples and changes will be done to this in the future, this is not final but you can start to use it. PM me if you managed to create a nice layout and i might use it for a samples gallery.
And since iv just finished mine, I thought we might have a forum topic where people can show off their Good Personal papers. Here is my Page Use this thread if you want to comment on anyone's Personal papers, or add your own, im kinda hoping mur will use some of these also. Root Admin Chewett Posted August 29, 2011 Author Root Admin Report Posted August 29, 2011 Anyone else used these templates to create pages with their info? Or just nice personal pages? Iv also added my creatures onto my papers now, so that when mur fixes it *cough* hint, they will also be shown. Quote
The Warrior Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 I did once try using the templates, but found that my javascripting was 'breaking' the template. So I created my personal page differently: My Personal Page Quote

Opera and IE are totally broken with them. Quote

The Warrior Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 Fixed for opera, tried fixing for IE but just made it worse. I hate IE! Anyone know of any IE iframe fixes. Quote
duxie Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 try not to use iframes to display info, they're evil... i'd suggest you to look at AJAX technology. in short it's basically sending request to server-side through hidden iframe, and getting response back to it. after response you just set all the info into your page with javascript. it's something like Chewett has done + ability to retrieve info from server-side (info from db for example), and no need to hold all the page in invisible divs which makes the page few times "heavier" then it should be at the time Quote
The Warrior Posted August 29, 2011 Report Posted August 29, 2011 (edited) Yeah, I know how to do that. It's just that I created my Personal Page about a year or two ago. And doing as you said means changing the whole of the technology on which my PP is built. I'm sure I'll do it at some point; probably when I have an idle day and am in a mood for code. Edit: Started changing technology to the template, this may make me update it more. Edited August 29, 2011 by The Warrior Quote
