When my waterguardian cast defend on a crit who's defence has been drained a lot, it causes the defended crit to die.

Tal's Water Guardian II does defend to random creature(s) of Tal and:
- Defence power: 905, Final defence: 905
- Maintaning defence. Current defence is -25627
defend (round:3 defend: defence=905|from -25627 to -24722; )
- Maebius receives 25871 damage
creature DIES!

People name their creatures based on people they admire or where they get their creatures from all the time. >> Anyhow, seeing as the defend mechanic is only meant to strengthen the defense of a creature, this seems like a genuine combat bug.

I keep a water guardian in my inventory as it is the only crit that has this skill. From what I can tell, defend strengthens defense and deals 1 damage to the creature being defended. If it is massively weakened, it will hurt badly.

the weakening you see on my crit, was only from the very first round of combat,
If defend always does 1 damage to the protected creature, then it will be useless to use on mp5.

That's been working like that for.. ever.
Granted, it doesn't do much to defend crits on MP5, but it's still a quite useful ability.

Rumi got the mechanics right, defend will do a little damage, and when you do a little damage to something with a lot of negative defence, it turns into a lot of damage.

When waterguardian uses defend ability it increases the defense of the target creature at the cost of 1 damage to the target, that damage is affected by negative defense stat from weaken def, hence you can kill your own creature.

This is not documented ingame in ability description. I talked with Tal about this months ago, yet he said he talked with you, you checked the code and that you said it works as it should... so :)) what's going on.

Honestly I think that defend is badly recoded martyr. I think it was used as template. Still regardless of if that damage should be there or not, I honestly think that even if it's there, then it shouldn't be susceptible to Defense stat, because as such it defeats the purpose of ability (which is now used at lower MP levels to easily give heat to other player rather than to boost def). If there should be this damage applied then it shouldn't be affected by defense stat, since Defend ability is power based.

As far as I remember Marty does damage to itself but isn't affected by negative defense, so it only makes sense to do the same for defend, or rework scaling for that damage it does.

Currently as it is, it's hard to say what it really should be doing, document sources don't mention this behavior at all.
