Agree with suggestion.  It's pretty standard behavior on the web (see: facebook), and a lot of times I have a GUI bug where the popup is situated too high on the screen and the x button hidden.

As a chrome user this would be MUCH appreciated. I often refresh get get rid of the popup windows. Refreshing the page has become so routine I often do it even if the x is visible.

I disagree with this suggestion.

Unless kyphis actually says something else, im probably going to code this tonight. As awiiya said, its pretty standard behavior.

The only issue i can see is accidentally losing your half typed message. But that can happen anyway and has solutions.

Maybe an "are you sure you want to discard?" warning if you have text typed in the open pop-up and/or some sort of auto-save for half-written messages like in email/forum?
