Aeoshattr Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Well... On the one hand, let's face it, IF MD actually gets new players, they might just as well quit the game after a few days. There are probably less than 10 active MP3s at the moment, so it must be a pain to progress. Therefore, I would suggest that if we have MP3 alts, we could leave them idle somewhere but for the sake of new players, rather than farming for ourselves or whatever. I do imagine some may consider this alt abuse, but I personally don't see it as such. If this will be deemed "legal", then I have a MP3 alt or two that I could contribute to this. But only if this isn't deemed alt abuse.
DARK DEMON Posted July 9, 2014 Author Report Posted July 9, 2014 (edited) I will give you 1 GC if you stay idle AFTER you log out. I'll give you my whole inventory if you actually used that brain of yours. For those like dst who have comprehending problems: set an MP3 account idle after you log out from your main MP4/MP5 account So this isnt alt abuse? Just sad if you're worried more about alt abuse than every single talkative MP3 leaving due to no fighters since the past few weeks.... I have been observing. I'm not forcing anyone to do this. Do it if you want to help MD. If you don't, your real loyalty to MD is apparent. Edited July 9, 2014 by DARK DEMON Nimrodel, Lazarus, dst and 3 others 6

Guest Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 DD, if you truly wish to assist in regaining the spirit of MD towards new players, I suggest you take away your offer of silver and try to encourage the community another way. Technically it is not alt abuse if the main account is not benefiting from the use of the alt, but using bribery to get assistance in anything will always incur criticism. Perhaps you could come up with further constructive suggestions rather than turn this thread into an argument? You have brought up a very important point, I sent a PM regarding a suggestion for this problem myself a couple of weeks ago. I would gladly give up access to a couple of old MP3 alts I have if there was a way of "botting" them to be available for new players to attack a limited number of times a day until we see a higher influx of new players. Do you or anyone else have any better or any more ideas that could improve new MP3 players' fighting experience until we have enough people for the problem to solve itself? p.s. If I paraphrase your last sentence correctly.. If someone doesn't want to do what you suggest, they are not loyal to MD?... Please re-phrase that...
Lazarus Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 I think you should aim for the big picture instead of wasting your time helping these undecided souls. Most of them are guaranteed not to last in 2-3 weeks time, because MD is not for everybody who just play games such as Candy Crush saga or Flappy Bird. I'm not saying it's wrong, what you're suggesting is very helpful for the new players and to the community. My point is that this game is self-filtering and roughly only 1 in 100 people actually stay, and they are people just like you who saw something in MD that makes them want to stay long-term. This is where the law of large numbers comes into play, and the key is in advertisement, which is currently inactive I assume. I suggest you start from there and find people who are willing to help while doing what you've suggested. Nimrodel and Ary Endleg 2
DARK DEMON Posted July 9, 2014 Author Report Posted July 9, 2014 (edited) p.s. If I paraphrase your last sentence correctly.. If someone doesn't want to do what you suggest, they are not loyal to MD?... Please re-phrase that... I meant if people are not willing to help MD, and are making up excuses (eg: its alt abuse) just because they dont want to, they are not loyal to MD. You all know the truth that if someone like Chewy suggested something like this, not a single person would have refused... (I've seen it happen in the past). A long time ago I used to "waste my time helping these undecided souls", some of them left but some stayed too. If you want examples, they are Eara, Syrian, Dante, Dan Planewalker, all of which have made some impact or the other in the game. I know the type of people who would stay in MD and I focus on them. That was when Mur gathered people and decided that LHO's should focus on one or two people and try to make them stay rather than leaving messages in chat. The silver was only an incentive for people to start. I already know those who actually want to help wouldn't take the silver. I made this thread because "MD type people" were leaving due to lack of MP3 fighters. However, it is absolutely clear the community isn't interested, so the topic can be closed. You all know the truth that if someone like Chewy suggested something like this, not a single person would have refused... (I've seen it happen in the past). I know Chewy, and I know he wouldn't pay people to use their alts like this. This is the issue people are having with your post. Perhaps you should start a new thread simply asking for suggestions or contributions from everyone? In terms of Lazarus's comment, that is the attitude that I would expect if MD were full of people. The issue here is not whether people are "worthy" of staying, but that there are technical and community issues that prevent them from having the intended starting experience that comes from having a steady influx of new people to mix with.
Syrian Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 your (DD) idea is fine, ive done this a lot in the pas,t eve even used tokens and dedicated an alts entire purpose for heat giving and socialise with mp3s to help them on their way with combat and knowledge to mp4, however, your attitude is, to be frank, appalling, it was apparent that dst, as a non native english speaker (no offense meant to dst) misinterpreted your post that could easily be argued as badly worded, yet instead of a polite re explanation you got rude and attacked her personally, this is not how you should be with people. Guest Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Why do you think using alts for xp loss was banned too? Because it was considered alt abuse to lose xp on another person's alt as well. Except he wasn't suggesting that the alts attack each other but be available for new players as afk. Giving the alts a silver to go afk is technically NOT alt abuse. The problem would then come from them being attacked by older players making alts. Hence the suggestion I made myself, giving up alts to be made into bots, so any impropriety could be avoided. From the level of nastiness in this thread, I see this is no place for reasonable discussion. DD, control your temper if you are trying to get people to listen to you.
Nimrodel Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 From the level of nastiness in this thread, I see this is no place for reasonable discussion. DD, control your temper if you are trying to get people to listen to you. make people in power say that its not alt abuse. Else two years later another DD will sue me for alt abuse and those in power might not support me then. Also, find a way to make sure that alts of players do not attack the idle alts...
DARK DEMON Posted July 9, 2014 Author Report Posted July 9, 2014 Nah, just let it all go. Lets all have fun as MP3's roam about alone with no one to fight. Here are the most recent reports :) http://storenow.net/my/?f=d9ac8ed2395aff5e42659a809b93e8db http://storenow.net/my/?f=6fa09a1626990b13df25acc56f0071ee
Aeoshattr Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Well... I think Ailith really nailed it and put everything in nice words. I support Ailith. I don't think DD's intention was bad - just the wording, and I understand why he lashed at dst, as I have seen another exchange of posts between them in which dst made similar remarks; the posts were removed. I do not want to say that this sort of s**t talking is alright! But I understand why he did it. Also please note I do not in -any- way want to take sides between him and dst. But I also don't think we should all call him names now because he lost his temper. That kind of stuff happens. Ary, I also agree with you, but you might start a hell of a s**t storm with it... MD is divided into roleplayers and grinders, mostly (yes I know that there are people in between, just naming the extremes). It will be very difficult to please both with MP progress requirements and off the top of my head, I don't see how middle grounds could be found. Though I'm certain that a solution can be found, but we'd need to have a civilised discussion about it. tl;dr: DD used some nasty words, I understand why he did it. We should focus on finding a solution to the MP3 problem rather than throwing words at eachother, IMO.
DARK DEMON Posted July 9, 2014 Author Report Posted July 9, 2014 Just to clear up all the mess --- my intention was never to insult "non native english speakers". All those who know my past will also know that dst has insulted me countless times and I simply couldn't believe that dst, who uses her intelligence so well for her role in MD, couldn't use her intelligence to understand my statement, hence I obviously took it as further "flaming" on her part. I am glad, however, that discussions are taking place. No sir! MD isn't divided between roleplayers and grinders, in fact majority doesn't fall in either basket, people just want you to believe that's the case because they just want to divide people, there is no division. Every individual player has different perception of game and priorities and activities and so on. Yet we all play same game, we are all same community. If X person favors combat more than roleplay it doesn't make him grinder or even fighter for that matter, some are here to socialize and not roleplay something that has a thin line between those two that is barely visible. Some are here because of art, some because of politics, some because of philosophy, etc. DD point out the problem why new players are leaving, I point out the root of that being badly designed system, now it's up to designers to change that so that it really reflects what game is truly about and present it to new players in it's real light. As you said yourself additional problem is MP progress requirements, that's another challenge for designers when they will be redesigning it and who knows what they will come up with. But they will have to remember that new player needs a feeling of progression else he will quit. That's what is happening now, newbie comes and system tells him to fight, he can't fight anybody and doesn't see any other thing to do in which he could progress and since he can't fight he can't progress or do anything meaningful so he quits. Besides we only have Chew who already has too much things to do and tutorial reconstruction has been planned and talked about for very long time. I don't think it will happen anytime soon which obviously means that the management of game isn't really that concerned with lack of player even thought we players are, if they were concerned they would make it their top priority. Besides do we really have to worry? MD has been like this for couple of years now no? It's steady little game and it's hanging "fine". Yes I believe we do have to worry... I don't think someone new has stayed around for quite some time now. When I was 100-300 AD, I remember people used to stick around occasionally. Now the "occasionally" has become "very rarely". Look at it from the MP3's point of view too: "I have to fight to get to a higher level in the game but at the moment it is impossible to do that because I have nobody to fight with." Even if they are attracted to some other aspect of MD (not combat), they will still not feel too keen to stay because they cannot progress into the game...
Ary Endleg Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 Exactly what I was saying, but point being that management (or should I say owner) doesn't think so or doesn't have resources to solve that problem at current moment.
Root Admin Chewett Posted July 9, 2014 Root Admin Report Posted July 9, 2014 I do imagine some may consider this alt abuse, but I personally don't see it as such. If this will be deemed "legal", then I have a MP3 alt or two that I could contribute to this. But only if this isn't deemed alt abuse. This point is important. Having it specifically deemed as being legal. At the current moment it isnt permitted for the most part. For those like dst who have comprehending problems: set an MP3 account idle after you log out from your main MP4/MP5 accountWhile you probably didnt mean that, Its offensive towards non-english speaking people. But you did mean it to be purely offensive towards dst. Thats not good DD. If you are going to do this I wil be closing your posts. Just sad if you're worried more about alt abuse than every single talkative MP3 leaving due to no fighters since the past few weeks.... I have been observing.DD, I said I would help you as much as I could, for a second time now. If you are going to make offensive comments like that and encourage alt abuse, I cannot help you. Please if you want to do stuff like this ask me first, espically since you said you would let me mentor you and come to me asking for help. I'm not forcing anyone to do this. Do it if you want to help MD. If you don't, your real loyalty to MD is apparent. So im not loyal to MD eh? I see... Guess you are more loyal than me? :P I meant if people are not willing to help MD, and are making up excuses (eg: its alt abuse) just because they dont want to, they are not loyal to MD. You all know the truth that if someone like Chewy suggested something like this, not a single person would have refused... (I've seen it happen in the past). If I _were_ to do this I would get it approved by someone in authority, aka ask council. I wouldnt suggest this idea until it has been approved. Thats the difference between you and I organising this. However, it is absolutely clear the community isn't interested, so the topic can be closed. The topic is closed because you were offensive and it got even more offensive. It can be re-opened if you want to be nice, as will others. make people in power say that its not alt abuse. Else two years later another DD will sue me for alt abuse and those in power might not support me then. Also, find a way to make sure that alts of players do not attack the idle alts...This. Nim knows how it should be done and I agree here. I have a better question, the whole problem of lack of other mp3s is there only because system "forces" new people to fight! Now why is that? Why does the system make people think it's all about combat, why combat is actually the only mandatory part of this game? When you look at it, majority of people that are still playing MD don't even involve themselves in combat, large number of them don't own creatures or have them fully killed, others have creatures just so people who do fight have some targets, and in the end very few actually fight and are interested in it. MD isn't about combat and you all know it very well, but still it's mandatory?!!? Lets face it system is poorly designed, it requires of people to do something and yet it fails to deliver opportunity to achieve same thing. You just can't make requirement from new players if you can't guarantee that they will have opportunity to accomplish it. It's like if MMOs were designed that you need to finish regular 20-man raid instance before you are able to exist tutorial area. That's bullshit! Designer (Mur) should have foresaw this problem earlier or at the time advertisement was stopped that tutorial is asking for something quite extraordinary and hard to achieve and proper changes should have been made. New player should be given some initial purpose or guideline for the game, but you can't that be a thing which depends on uncontrollable condition, which is lack of population. We have seen this, AUTUMN2050 is planned to resolve this. Also I have some plans to resolve some issues (namely the attacking all mindpowers thing) DD point out the problem why new players are leaving, I point out the root of that being badly designed system, now it's up to designers to change that so that it really reflects what game is truly about and present it to new players in it's real light. We be doing this :) As you said yourself additional problem is MP progress requirements, that's another challenge for designers when they will be redesigning it and who knows what they will come up with. I don't think it will happen anytime soon which obviously means that the management of game isn't really that concerned with lack of player even thought we players are, if they were concerned they would make it their top priority. Besides do we really have to worry? MD has been like this for couple of years now no? It's steady little game and it's hanging "fine".This is a tad offensive :PIt is our top priority, but we are not paid to do this and therefore do this all in our free time. If you could pay me to work on MD as an actual job I could get it done quite quickly.AUTUMN2050 was planned to start two weeks ago, we have had a bit of a delay but its still very much on the top of my list, it just needs some consecutive hours which wont happen this weekend as im doing something, but next weekend is a distinct possibility at this rate :)----This is closed, people were being mean. The idea is not a good one without it being approved, that being said, I would have probably approved something like this, after a bit of questioning and adding some failsafes.Make a new topic if you want to discuss this further. Be nasty and people will get bans.
