Shorthand notation of currency

Featured Replies

Currently there are lots of ways "1g 6s" "1g6" "1g6s" etc. I propose we figure out a more standard way to represent it.

Here's a proposal:

goldamount.silveramount

So 7 gold and 8 silver would be

7|8

Simple and easy to explain.

I think until we can understand what the person means it is ok (like putting "g" and "s" after a number. 1g6 is a bit dodgy but still understandable). No need to compress  it into 7|8.

Don't fix what isn't broken, I guess.

I'll insert an s after my offer as if I'm still a bit confused by the format, and then when it comes time to pay up I'll say the pipe means "or"  and give you the second silver amount but not the first.

But really, I don't think this is something that needs to be standardized. Leads to more confusion, not less.

For those afraid their keyboard will go weary from the extra keystrokes 1g6 is equally long as 1|6, but a lot clearer. If you're not afraid of using up a few etra strokes anything from 1g 6s to 1 gc 6 sc or even 1 Gold Coin, 6 Silver Coins should work just fine.
