LadyDawn Posted January 30, 2010 Report Posted January 30, 2010 Exactly what the topic description says... There is a gazzilion of interesting, inspirational, wise or funny quotes around. If you want to share them, the write them here. And yes, they dont need to be strictly "real life" one, they can also be from MD itself. The quote that I will share today are from Arthur Conan Doyle: “Too much! Wait till you have lived here longer. Look down the valley! See the cloud of a hundred chimneys that overshadows it! I tell you that the cloud of murder hangs thicker and lower than that over the heads of the people. It is the Valley of Fear, the Valley of Death. The terror is in the hearts of the people from the dusk to the dawn. Wait, young man, and you will learn for yourself.” “It is a capital mistake to theorize before one has data.” “It has long been an axiom of mine that the little things are infinitely the most important”

LadyDawn Posted February 12, 2010 Author Report Posted February 12, 2010 Throwing in another bounch... "We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in the soft haze of a spring day or in the red fire of a long winter's evening. Some of us let these great dreams die, but others nourish and protect them; nurse them through bad days till they bring them to the sunshine and light which comes always to those who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true." ~ Woodrow Wilson "Dream as if you'll live forever... live as if you'll die today " ~ James Dean "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us." ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson "The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, gift, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes. " ~ Charles Swindoll "Best friends are like diamonds, precious and rare. False friends are like leaves, found everywhere." ~ Unknown "Good friends are like stars-you don't always see them, but you know they are always there. " ~ Anonymous "You were born an original. Don't die a copy." ~ John Mason "Happiness is a journey, not a destination. For a long time it seemed to me that life was about to begin - real life. But there was always some obstacle in the way, something to be gotten through first, some unfinished business, time still to be served, a debt to be paid. At last it dawned on me that these obstacles were my life. This perspective has helped me to see there is no way to happiness. Happiness is the way. So treasure every moment you have and remember that time waits for no one." ~ Souza "To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty; To find the best in others; To leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded. " ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson "The question isn't who is going to let me; it's who is going to stop me. " ~ Ayn Rand "Obsessed is just a word the lazy use to describe dedicated." ~ Unknown Author "What this power is, I cannot say. All I know is that it exists...and it becomes available only when you are in that state of mind in which you know exactly what you want...and are fully determined not to quit until you get it." ~ Alexander Graham Bell "I will not die an unlived life. I will not live in fear of falling or catching fire. I choose to inhabit my days, to allow my living to open me, to make me less afraid, more accessible, to loosen my heart until it becomes a wing, a torch, a promise. I choose to risk my significance; to live so that which comes to me as seed goes to the next as blossom and that which comes to me as blossom, goes on as fruit." ~ Dawna Markova "Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day, saying “I will try again tomorrow”." Root Admin Muratus del Mur Posted February 25, 2010 Root Admin Report Posted February 25, 2010 I wish to quote someone whose thoughts shocked me at first because i recognized my way of thinking in them. When i first heard about him i thought its an overrated artist, but later i realized his value goes beyond his paintings. Pablo Picasso. - Art is the lie that enables us to realize the truth. - Everything you can imagine is real. - My mother said to me, "If you are a soldier, you will become a general. If you are a monk, you will become the Pope." Instead, I was a painter, and became Picasso. - Success is dangerous. One begins to copy oneself, and to copy oneself is more dangerous than to copy others. It leads to sterility. And listen to this one and think of MD now: - To finish a work? To finish a picture? What nonsense! To finish it means to be through with it, to kill it, to rid it of its soul, to give it its final blow the coup de grace for the painter as well as for the picture. Jubaris and Tarquinus 2
LadyDawn Posted March 7, 2010 Author Report Posted March 7, 2010 As far Picassos paintings are consirned... well, for my humble opinion its true value is mostly in the fact that he did it that way first, his first works were quite different tho. As for his way of thinking, yes, definetly beyond the value of his painting, I have to agree on that as you presented one of my favorits: "Everything you can imagine is real." That one is so true... a man wanted to fly and even if he did not grow wings, behold a plane. I tend to wonder, could we actualy "fly" if we would truly trust ourself and take a leap... And with that last one, Mur, you hit the spot. Here is another one from him tho: He can who thinks he can, and he can't who thinks he can't. This is an inexorable, indisputable law.
