does having an unconfirmed account actually changes your game experience?

Certain things like the Anniversary Gift that where given out recently won't be available (most likely), and I believe that there was something about unconfirmed accounts getting deleted after a short-ish interval (ask an LHO)

You also can't see or post PLs when you're unconfirmed. Don't know if there are any other differences.

inactive accounts get deleted every now and then (I believe), I also believe that unconfirmed status has no bearing on this

An unconfirmed email will not make your account be considered as inactive.
Being unconfirmed does affect game play but you can still do 80% or more of all activities.
Anyway, verifying email is easy so I don't see why this would be a problem.
