The community can exert pressure of its own. If we, as the poll suggests, do not tolerate such behavior, we can make "offenders" feel the weight of our displeasure. And frankly, that's about the only thing that can be done. Making it a matter of policy will sooner or later invite complaints about "PC Thought Police" and similar stuff.

I have to put this bluntly: these things are a matter of respect and common courtesy, which certain very immature people enjoy violating because they lack either quality, because they are happy with any sort of attention, even (or especially) of the negative sort, or both. When I am around a person who behaves in such a fashion, I will rebuke that person: and if I think I am dealing with an attention-seeker, I do what is the only thing attention-seekers really hate, which is to ignore them. I find that mature, intelligent people who are approached with respect and informed "that is not appropriate" or "you have really offended me" tend to react favorably and modify their behavior accordingly.

NB to Poe and any other concerned parties - ignoring an attention-seeker can be mistaken for tacit approval of that person's behavior. Assess any situation before concluding that the community approves of offensive behavior. Cf. the behavior of those who think it is some kind of badge of honor to have a negative forum reputation. No matter what you do, some people just don't get the message that no one likes them [u]because[/u] they are obnoxious jerks.

Rather then finding someone new to do that task, why not expand the forum moderators to include PLs.

I trust the moderators to know whats right and wrong for the forum, and I would extend that trust that they would know whats offensive and whats not in PLs.

Btw, I asked some of my friends who are practising alternative lifestyle about the post by DR and they are indifferent. They are curious though why is so many people finding it offensive, when they themselves find that it is not. They find that it is more offensive that the public at large have to keep jumping to their defence and trying to be politically correct as it is painting them to be a community who is narrow minded and sensitive. Their advice, if you are not practicing an alternative lifestyle, stop trying to defend their sensitivities.

It's called the way of cleansing...at least i'm using it for its purpose. Anyway, where else in the realm do you see a big fire capable of disposing of all the realms rubbish? The environmental issue is to those who DON'T use the fire and instead just leave things on the ground that don't decompose properly for little animals to get caught in!

I think some people are misunderstanding a few things. The things that have taken place are from Phantasm's point of view. Not my person irl. Outside of the game me, assira, and susan all get along very well. They are delightful people I am glad to have to talk to. This whole business revolves around the specific characters, not the people behind them, or other characters.

With that, I would like to thank Assira for giving the alliance back. She had a good intent that ended badly, and seeing it, agreed to that battle and to giving the alliance back. That is a very respectable thing in my book and will continue to be a good friend outside of phantasm's own personal issues. Susan was trying to be helpful to Assira, and make the best of the situation. She can not be faulted for that. Phantasm's anger seeks revenge upon the both of them. NOT ME IRL. I feel this whole ordeal has steam rolled into something outside of the characters themselves. This is a problem that is known to happen in MD before and I hope it doesn't happen in this case. They are both good and dear friends of mine. That to me is worth 100 times what any alliance is worth. I have a tendency to write in forum from Phantasm's point of view and not my own. I have always thought that is the way the forum should be treated. There should be a detachment between the real world and the gaming world. Otherwise when they mix they tend to collide and cause problems. Emotions rise and feelings are hurt. People leave the game because they feel ridiculed as a person and not as their character. I have played games online for 18 years now. I learned a long time ago to keep a fair detachment, and try to never let things affect me as a person. YIM's and other forms of outside chat are a good way to talk with people and get to know them outside of a game context. So please, lets try and keep this all in context of the game and not try and drag any people themselves through the muck.

With all due respect, and I appologise for the courseness of this example, black people consider the N word bad not because they believe black people are bad, latinos consider the S word bad not because they believe latinos are bad, this is exactly the same sort of derogatory word for gay people. Its a word that used to be used to slag gay people off, and therefore is not considered decent or respectful language in polite society, let alone with someone who you hardly know. Quite aside from the fact that saying "You give homosexuals a bad name" automatically implies you have a prejudice, there is absolutely no need to mention somebody's sexual preference whatsoever in commenting about their personality just as there is no need to mention someone's skin colour. I couldn't care less if you like to slag your mates off calling them stupid names and they arn't offended, that isn't the situation here.

It's a joke that this is even being discussed as potentially not being offensive. This isn't prime minister's question time, it isn't and now in the actor's studio, this isn't a topic about what is offensive and what isn't. Someone has had a homophobic remark placed on their PL and they are, quite rightly, not happy about it. If you don't have something constructive to say in order to resolve the situation then you are just exhaserbating an already unpleasant situation for the relevant person involved.

In the light of the recent turmoil regarding the Caretakers Alliance, having read here and there about what happened (to my dismay, the whole story ended before I had the chance to jump in with a personal opinion), and about what people believe it happened, seeing the suggestions others made and the outcome of the event, I felt compelled to propose a debate.

I thought of this before, but only now did I find the perfect opportunity to bring such matter in the public eye.

As the title goes, the subject of the debate regards strategy, subterfuge and propaganda, all pictured in a (not so) philosophical manner. My final and at the moment so faraway goal is to form up a handbook with different opinions that circulate in the MD universe. And why not - if I`ll be capable of pulling this through - establishing a set of guidelines (not rules) to be used whenever conflicts burst out in the otherwise peaceful lands of Magic Duel.

Why?.. I`ve seen a lot of characters with military background and I know some of them are keen on sharing their military expertise. Even though in some isolated cases the ''military page'' speaks only one thing: ''go out there and kill the enemy''. Well, that`s one way to have things done, but not the only way.

I want you to take the stand and share your vision and theories on warfare - tactics, the employment, deployment and use of cavalry, infantry, logistics and auxiliaries (scouts, spies, diplomats)
I want you to take the stand and share your experiences (not tales) with war: lost battles, won battles, the cause and effect.
I want this debate to take place at the Clash of Ages, sometime at the end of this week.

For now, a rough and simple rundown of the debate would look like this:

- Opening - Introduction to warfare
- Set one - Head on - conventional warfare; how are we doing it - theory
- Set two - In the shadows - the use of ''agents'' or <How can one man win the war>; deceit and treason.
- Set three - A mouthful of words - they can`t fight as good as we can speak.
- Set four - All still standing go to a pub and drink their minds out while sharing experiences, like the true warriors they are.

This might sound awfully complicated, but if you people are interested in it, then we can continue the debate at some later time. If not, then there`s no need to worry.

With all due respect, and I appologise for the courseness of this example, black people consider the N word bad not because they believe black people are bad, latinos consider the S word bad not because they believe latinos are bad, this is exactly the same sort of derogatory word for gay people. Its a word that used to be used to slag gay people off, and therefore is not considered decent or respectful language in polite society, let alone with someone who you hardly know. Quite aside from the fact that saying "You give homosexuals a bad name" automatically implies you have a prejudice, there is absolutely no need to mention somebody's sexual preference whatsoever in commenting about their personality just as there is no need to mention someone's skin colour. I couldn't care less if you like to slag your mates off calling them stupid names and they arn't offended, that isn't the situation here.

It's a joke that this is even being discussed as potentially not being offensive. This isn't prime minister's question time, it isn't and now in the actor's studio, this isn't a topic about what is offensive and what isn't. Someone has had a homophobic remark placed on their PL and they are, quite rightly, not happy about it. If you don't have something constructive to say in order to resolve the situation then you are just exhaserbating an already unpleasant situation for the relevant person involved.

Just a point to make, being called a fag is insulting to those who believe that homosexuals are bad, so they do not want to be one. If you were not insulted by being called a fag you don't mind the homosexual.

I'm wondering if this is a personal thing (not that that excuses it) or not, and if you have asked him to remove it? Although to be fair considering the comment you probably don't want anything to do with him let alone actually ask him something.
