1. Okay, okay. Let's speed things up then, if you wish, but you or someone else will have to lead the project since I don't have the time or stamina for that. The survey really isn't necessary, it was just a novel idea I yielded to since I have scruples about dealing with MD bureacracy. :< However, knowing MD, there are probably no regulations about that announcement box, so as long as Calyx/whoever else it concerns is fine with it, I think that's a good bet.

Going along this thread, Chewett, could we have a probationary section for the newspaper discussions? Maybe later on, there will be more player-operated projects that can be grouped in the same location. After all, these forums are used as much if nor more for community enjoyment as for the game, hm?

If both Che and Calyx agree, we can skip phase 1 and just start open discussion about content. We have a little group from which we can culture more interest, perhaps. For anyone who wishes to talk to me more conveniently, you can use my yahoo ID infaceta. I have my other contact information in my profile. However, I think the forums or a similar place are still important, since not all have ymsg and people can freely provide input on a whim while seeing what others have said before them.

If possible, I'd like to be more of an advisor than leader and you seem to have more initiative than me, so that settles things for now. However, we need to decide what plan we're going to follow now. Adopt mine, or do you want operate another way? Technically, if you have a vision and don't especially care about the thoughts of others, we could forgo discussion and instead just begin work as long as we already have a workbase. That does disagree with me, though.

@Glor and Tree, I'll put you down on the list I have.

  2. Ah, Che, but what is a post count save for a number noted by the overconscious? The fact would remain that I have contributed far more than he ever has. In fact, the majority of his few posts are spam, it is!

Ohoho, look, a surprising number of people have posted. *__* No doubt trying to increase their post count.

  3. Don't worry. Even if no one else wants to create a celebratory birthday topic for you, I will! After all, you are a faithful member of the forums, rightho? I suppose it's sad that I have more posts than you, calling myself an Outsider, but I have more posts than everyone besides Chewett and dst, anyway.

Anyway, yeah. You're always accusing me of hate, but really, I am your most dedicated follower~! I really am true to my word!

    Ohohoho! :3

  4. Current count

    Response: 49
    A (not interested): 1
    B (would read it): 16
C (want to be notified about developments): 11
D (want to provide input at discretion): 13
E (want to actively be part of project): 5

I know there's a discrepancy in numbers but I can't spend the time to figure out where I went wrong at this moment.

And the people I know of who want to help with the project but haven't yet been included in the survey: 5

  5. Garg, please don't say that, you must know that I was joking myself. Right? n'__'n

I don't believe the forums would generate any more support for this project than it already has. The point of surveying players individually ingame was to prompt reply and include those who don't visit the forums regularly in the evaluation.

I'm iffy about continuing use of these forums. Manu's expressed that he's not against integrating the newspaper into his game kind of like the Archives, but I don't really care for that idea.. so I kind went, yeah, do you mind if we operate independently in the beginning? Besides my own personal preferences, this project has a high risk of early failure, making it kind of inappropriate for game endorsement until it's secure. So, you see, if we do start walking, then we might make adjustments to be part of the game. Maybe. >_>

Anyway, the forums are official. The newspaper is as of this moment unofficial. It makes me feel uncomfortable. Besides that, the forums are uninviting. So I sort of think, maybe a simple wiki or something for the development if the newspaper gets further. But I suppose since not many care much about forum content anyway, the forums are still an option.

Anyway, school started again. I'm going to continue the survey and start calculating.

  6. Gargant, how offensive it is that you suggest I would engage in a petty war! Hmph.

As for your ideas, I don't disagree with them--yet. But I don't feel this is the right time and place for these suggestions about content and whatnot. First it should be decided whether or not there is truly enough interest in the project for it to start at all. myrrh may have been more polite and perhaps less biased than me, but I don't think the project was going well under his hand. He was trying to do several things at once: spread awareness, collect team members, decide content, make the layout, consider the ideas of everyone and Mur, all the while learning about MD as a new player. That's disorganized and stressing; it's no wonder he gave up so soon.

You asked where the project is. So you skipped my post, hmm? I don't blame you, since it's a long topic to read now, but I don't only write rants, Garg. >:) If we're going to follow my schematic, we're in phase 1: surveying the playerbase of MD to get a feeling of how much readership and support any future paper might have. If we don't have a significant amount, there's no point in going further. I still haven't finished distributing the survey pms nor have I even started calculating the results, so it might be a while before we figure out whether or not we'll progress. Now, I know I'm acting as if I own this thing and we should all go by my wisdom. But we should. Ohohoho! Well, no. If you can convince me there is a better way, do so.

I think if we do go according to my plan and get past phase 1, we ought to ditch this thread for discussing content and style. It'll be too cluttered and inaccessible for any who want to join in later. But we won't want several newspaper threads going on here.. suggestions about that?

Ahem, welcome Gargant and cryxus. I'll talk to Yami about LS later.

  7. I just had to before anyone else did. n___n

Sorry if you don't celebrate birthdays, though. Wait, is this even your birthday? New Year's Eve? Just put in some random birthdate while registering, hey? Tsk!

Ahem, sorry if it really is your birthday though; was just doubting for a moment.

  8. Huh.. can't you guys just organize your own events for fun? You know, maybe dueling? You're veterans, you can do it! Because, after all, maybe making more official contests dependent on PvP is excessive. This is a roleplaying game after all; you can have fun roleplaying. Making Manu work just for the whims of a small section of the playerbase, pah.

    ~Outsider's view.

  9. How stiff you are! How uncomfortable it is to see my lovely composition dissected in your response! You really ought to lighten up your language, Tarquinius, if only for cheer of those who receive. It's an affront!

But, I get carried away. I applaud dogmatic adherence to setting constraints. Though the manner in which you retort is disconcerting, I suppose it is putting a mantle on for the occasion. You have support from me! I'm sure you're very appreciative.

  10. Return of the long posts!

What the world expects of me! I started distributing those "spam PMs" as you so term them at maybe 1:30 in the morning so I wouldn't be under the surveillance of my discerning brother and parents. By 2:00 (at which point I had gone through the players at the Gazeebo, Well of Fortune and was going through the playerlist of Fenths Press) someone was turning in bed and I became fearful; I hasted to brush my teeth and prepare for bed. As my suspicions dictated, Mom got up soon afterward and made a disapproving face to see me up so late no matter if I was in the midst of retiring; I don't know what she would have said had she found me playing some game. For you see, we share a single room with five computers. It's called, "The Computer Room." It's the room that is most occupied by our family. All members are constantly harping about how I'm not doing homework, too. So now you know why you don't see Glai during daylight hours. It's easier to sneak onto the forums than onto the actual game.

So, anyway, that is why I didn't manage to distribute my lovely spam to everyone. I don't think I will get to it until school starts again and I can sneak onto the game during 7th period. Don't worry, you'll most likely receive one.. eventually.

@MRWander, come now. Need I explain the obvious relevance of legality to your position? Please don't say you don't conceive that in the first place I didn't mean to send duplicates to and thus so violate your sanctified inbox. From that it can be inferred that I've already done all that is within my lowly ability to prevent the event, save for actually stopping the survey--I can't do that, not in phase 1, not even for your pained finger. Hence, legality: convincing me my action doesn't possess it is your only recourse if you want me to do more for the sake of stopping them. Now, I don't know whether you're just little dense or whiny or really do mean me to stop the survey, but either way, your wishes are near irrelevant to me. Now you understand my ire in having to respond to them?

Look here. I know you must be generally easy to get along with; I'm not. You've accomplished your purpose, for I will involuntarily recognize your name above all the others I won't regardless of whether or not I think that it is fair as the consequence of a complaint on the forums. We've exchanged pain, hey? You over your finger and calm and I over the time spent explaining such a thing as this. I know you are the victim of inconvenience here and mocking aside, I really am sorry, but I don't want to be furthered bothered about this lest it is meaningful. Play MD, roleplay on Gaia, chill out--anything but continue this discussion about an accidental pm. :)

@Burns, welcome. I think I'm going to do my history DBQ now.

  11. Oh, honestly! I'm quite sincerely sorry that I managed to send one or two extra messages to you by accident (mind to tell me exactly how many, so I can judge exactly how nitpicky you are?) and no doubt cluttered your inbox exceedingly with that huge number so that you had to spend so much effort to strenuously stretch your holy finger and press the delete button to that extreme amount, but to my humble knowledge what I did was perfectly legal. Someone tell me if it isn't, thanks. Now, if you don't want it to be repeated, go to some obscure location someone like Glai won't visit to survey all the people there. You know what? If no one moved from his location, I most likely wouldn't erroneously send duplicates anyway; but no, people have to move around so that I to my most magnificent horror do make such abominations of events.

I'm sorry. I really try not to. I just can't memorize a hundred names of whom I have already surveyed. Want a virtual cookie for consolation?

  12. Has the moon ever even appeared in MD? I'm not up-to-date on the AL or MD lore, but if it's not mentioned I'm not exactly sure how your lovely characters know about such an object. Although, I suppose you could just say a myth has been passed down from generation to generation about some legendary celestial body from an origin unknown... Or, maybe your characters just feel something amiss and create a vision in which things just happened to be termed "moon" and "stars" or so on. If you can make your story fit with MD's world, a moon cult sounds fine. It might be helpful to post your story if you want support (from more than those who already know and support you, anyway).

    Uh, did meiche make Penny? Or was that a typo? n__n;

  13. I finished my history studyguide. :) Almost, anyway. I have to do the map, but I lost that (and the actual studyguide, but I had Lu's), so I will obtain one once school starts again.

Lack of reaction in forums indicates lack of interest to progress in project, but the forums are undependable since so few actually use it. Glai doesn't give up easily, you know; she will only stop when I know for sure it is impossible. That's why I always accomplish so much! n__n Anyway, back to the forum thing, I guess I have to resort to ingame surveying. I never thought I would fall so low as to mass-send pms,
damn
it. And forums overall are inappropriate if the project continues. I can't work with one thread and more would be excessive due to the high risk of failure.. Huh, the forums are useless.

Anyway, this is the basic schematic I will go by to determine whether or not the project can progress under my hand:

Phase 1--Surveying Interest

spread awareness and evaluate likely number of subscriptions

create a committee of interest which will help make decisions in following phases, esp. phase 2.

Phase 2--Decide Content

determine primary and secondary purposes of newspaper, e.g. deliver information, document historical events and showcase player work

evaluate amount of work necessary, what kind of resources will be used and overall tone of paper

contact likely columnists/cartoonists, so on to verify how much space will be used for different content

Phase 3--Decide Design/Format

based on content/tone and context constraint, determine amount of visuals, typefaces, colors, etc.

allocate content on specific pages (if multiple pages) depending on proportion as decided by function for primary or secondary purposes

Phase 4--Create Team

based on content and pulling mostly from committee of interest, decide who will do what

especially look for editors, copyeditors/reviewers, artists

Phase 5--Churning Issues Out
This way I will know when the project fails--whenever progressing onto the next step or phase seems to be futile or impossible. And you can follow along, hurrah!

  14. offtopic: Huh. Darn it. Can I still use it?

ontopic: 90% chance of project failure~ I don't plan to even try my hand at this if I can't gather a substantial workforce. But evaluating potential workers comes after analyzing general response. Che, you really mumble a lot. Don't worry though; I collect your flotsam and make a junkbear. :o !

    Three samples, hnn.

  15. Ha! The less I do, the happier I'll be. Maybe. I don't want a project I'm accomodating to be a
crappy
newspaper. I don't really trust average MD players to be able to make a good one without a lot of assistance. Anyway, what were you saying? I'd love it if someone I approve of waltzed over and said they'd like to take charge, but if no one volunteers right now, I'd have to manage the project for at least the beginning. The other option is to wait indefinitely and not start at all unless someone does, which suits me as well. Pick. And oh, hey, since when did we have custom member titles?

Yes, I put spoiler tags around what I consider to be profanity. Don't bother me about it.

  16. @Udgard, it'll be for the community of MD rather than the game itself. There's a difference to me.

@Cheett, you're right, I don't really want a paper for MD or even it's community. I just want to see if I can make one. I don't think I can counter this point well. It's not like I'll try to be biased or make the paper favor one side--I'm a better journalist than that--but that's my natural disposition and I can't help it much. Bias isn't something one controls easily.

I had planned to let willing people review pieces before release to suggest change in tone or additional information from the perspective of one party or another if necessary; I also wouldn't mind if someone else more appropriate took on the job of deciding what would go in the paper, which is more or less an editor-in-chief. I could be an adviser who also makes the layout. However, finding that person might take hunting. Most everyone I know takes a stance on the issues of MD and its community, though perhaps not as strongly as I, and out of the couple who don't not all of them would want to do it.

So, what do you think, Che? Enough to contend for the meantime or should I just off and away?

  17. Seems to work at a quick glance, which means the situation is automatically better than before. If I end up using the forums again I'll keep an eye out.

    Cheudaman! d(n_n)b

EDIT: Actually, I don't know about that after thinking it through a little. IE reviles me so much. But I'd keep an eye out in FF at least, regardless of how little that means. (:

  18. Change of hands! myrrh's gone, at least for now; he might come back eventually when he's not so incapacitated. Or he might not. Anyway, a select few of you know that I was taking beginning journalism. Well, that was last year. Now I'm the news editor of the school's paper, so technically I could manage this project if I were so inclined. However, what with magicduel being the game it is now, I have far more important things to do. I'm willing to work on it should interest still exist, but only at my quite-limited convenience.

    What it would mean:

an 90% chance of project failure

irregular releases; first if there is one will probably be in summer break

strong bias against roleplaying, new players in general and MD itself

minimal help from Manu; no reward/guild for team

minimal influence from Manu; the paper won't be for his lovely game~

being subject to a far superior being who most likely loves MD less than you, and accordingly is less active

less work! longer deadlines!
Now, possessing the character I do, I can understand why you might not like these stipulations. In that case, I can merrily forget this whole idea and maybe someone else will pick it up--or it will die. Honestly, it's up to you. Those who don't care, assuming there are some, have to reconfirm interest in this project. I don't want to hear about what you want to do if you want to do anything for the newspaper, honestly; just tell me if you still want a nice little pretty paper. I will spend extra effort to recontact myrrh-listpersons and ask them regardless of whether or not they see this thread.. eventually, anyway.

    Have questions? Ask.

  19. I think you misunderstood, lightsage-Awimale; the Awi I spoke of first just has the same name as Awi who posted after. I don't make mistakes, so the Awi I spoke of first is female. Therefore, since you insist on your proud possession of masculinity, there are two awiiyas: one female and one male.

As to inferiority, I don't see your point. I never claimed my truths should affect your views; dry. Hrrrh. I suppose I'm supposed to defend my supposition.

[codebox]differences Awimale spoke of = traits generally belonging to one gender (f) + traits generally belonging to another gender (m)

Where Glai is the judger and traits are measured in worthiness rather than quantity:
traits generally belonging to one gender (f) > traits generally belonging to another gender (m)

Therefore, in general, when the worthiness of possessed traits measures the magnitude of gender and Glai is the aribitrator:
    one gender (f) > another gender (m).[/codebox]
This is a truth where Glai is concerned, and if I already have a disclaimer that says that all content in my posts only concern my own self. As I said, if you mean to communicate a point, you're not doing so well.

I don't suppose you're going to argue that one should not judge a character trait as better than another? Especially a gender-specific trait? Or were you just saying that so I could happily know your own opinion? In that case, why, I am happy to know your opinion.

EDIT: Lu says I'm being mean.

I apologize for my mean behavior.

Do not be bothered by my meanness.

I will be going now; can't continuously post on the forums for so long.

P.S. One of the levels of the Medusa creature or whatever it's named now looks like an archer because it is holding its thin tail as one would a bow. And the tail looks a little like a bow. Too lazy to look it up and link it, sorry.

  20. Ahem, my dear bunny, there is nothing that could be labelled "mean" or "hostile" in those bolded words; they never indicated that the subject was stupid and lazy and patty hectic lei inept or whatnot. Not to mention it is of my very esteemable opinion that nearly everyone is stupid and lazy to some point, even yours truly, so even if someone rash assumed my words implied those things, there is no need to be hurt. Okay, well, maybe I indicated that our new player here was lazy, but the same argument put forth just a sentence ago applies yet. Neither should one be ashamed for paying someone more honor than he deserves, necessarily, and just because I show that it makes me feel less pleasant doesn't mean my judgment has to be a standard, though I thank you very kindly for the flattering.

Therefore, by being the one to indirectly categorize such persons who have dominant traits of laziness and stupidity or like concepts as something negative with your reactions, you are the one who is being mean and hostile. You must forgive some flaws, for all persons have their good points--and if not so, then you must strive to change them rather than condemn. Who's to say laziness and stupidity is always bad, in any case? In contrast, openly showing a lack of appreciation for my effort to welcome someone is rude to say at the least, and to be misunderstood because of assumptions naturally upsets me. Yes, I did say he was unworthy and express my disgruntlement in reaction. If you want to call me mean for that, then do so. I regret being a little harsh to the misguided-and-incapable-of-correct-understanding now, but what's done is done. You may have your virtual cookie regardless of your failure, for I pity you and I feel guilt for my treatment of such pitiable creatures. *gives cookies*

And awiiya-who-claims-to-be-of-the-inferior-gender, there is someone by the same name I think of as female in my head. Say hello, will you?

  21. Dude, man. I'll give you a virtual cookie complete with the asterisks if you can point out what was hostile and mean in my hello. Look what I have to endure--I go out of my way to say hello when no one else does after several views, and this is what I get in return. You know what? I won't do it again, I promise. Don't appreciate Glai-greeting, well, you aren't worthy of it. You can be greeted by awiiya; I'm sure she's like totally better than me and you'd be missing out on nothing.

I shouldn't even be humoring you by replying. I shouldn't be attaching the pictures of all the archers in MD and listing their names because of your *cough*pathetic*cough* ineptitude. But, well, I can't help my graciousness, now can I? And yes, I purposely lied and said 9 archers when there are 10, just to fluster. 1-6 are levels of one creature, 7-10 are another. And, in case you're missing it, those underlined numbers are links to the larger pictures posted in Aqune's threads.

If none of these is the archer you're looking for, your eyesight is screwed. That, or your memory. Or your brain. You could be hallucinating and indulging in fantasies about female archers in the artstyle of MD.

When did the option to attach images disappear? Do you know how long that took me to arrange them so that a player could not look at the image properties and find the link to the creature directory? I also suggest that directory be secured, as well as the link to attack a person, view rpc logs and who knows what else.

  22. Request, if someone ever comes upon the message I sent to that MD-archive-site-blog-thing some time ago, please ignore it and you never saw any such thing. Delete it from all logs.

I have really low points, and sometimes I wallow in MD depression so much my ability to process ideas takes a plunge and I do drastic things. I sorely regretted sending that message once I became sober a few hours later.

  23.
Sho, I was like, yeah, I finished work yesterday and I was logging on and writing, "Yea, and for you I hath labored to deliver an early fulfillment of our covenant" but then I forgot what I wanted to write about in the first place. Sorry, probably the effect of several all-nighters in a row.. why did I even post in the first place? It shows that I was not in a sane condition, and yea, in retrospect, I had pulled an all-nighter that very day I posted. In any case, I was like, I must not disappoint my already-dejected subjects, I must write something absolutely magnificent, so I must spend some time to deliberate upon this subject. But I'm afraid dear Che will close this topic in no time at all considering the mutation the discussion underwent, what with Aqune-dst squabbling like two pitted siblings, so I must hurry and therefore you must deal with a hashed-up blather. Nonetheless, I imagine, very worthy in brilliance.

So, anyway, I was thinking, alliances are very cool. They are like mini-factions that represent real ones in real life--but they aren't the only form in which players can form polarized groups, nor should it be mandatory that one join them. As in real life, there may be benefits but there are also fallbacks. So what discussion is there to be had about alliances? If people want to form alliances and be an official group, then there are alliances. True, our absolutist king may decide whether or not they deserve officialdom and endorse them with bonuses such as stats and certain powers, but it is all still alike to a society--that group can decide to be underground/unofficial as well. Perhaps Manu, our Holy Lord, is the sole arbitrator in deciding the requirements for an alliance and he may be wrong in judgment (as dst says), but I still think alliances are a very cool aspect of the game which just makes it simulate a real-life society even better.

I have three minutes before the bell rings and that's nothing at all for me to write all I want. Chewwiiie, please let me edit in more later on before you close anything D: just think of all the people who want to hear my wise words.. don't deprive them! In the meanwhile, I must say, Aqune-dst argu was very endearing and I should be quite disappointed if it has already ended so soon, quite sad, continue if you will oh, bell rang, must go...
So anyway, I approve of alliances as a factor of MD as a society, but that doesn't really mean I encourage them either. I just don't think alliances as a single unit should be stifled; if one is bad in some way or the other and despotic King Manu still favors it, it can stagnate or be opposed by another alliance/unofficial group/single person. You can see this thought in the following ways I respond to dst's specific points:

1)Being in an alliance is a privilege not a right. Alliance leaders should choose their members carefully (based on their own rules, needs, etc) and not permit anyone in. With the current number of members in the alliances (50 i believe) the leaders struggle to fill the places (since the number of active players is still small) . I have seen alliance with inactive members (the leader had to kick them out). This is not right!
I think organizations can choose whatever members they like, even not carefully. If they struggle to fill the places and have inactive members, then that makes them weaker; maybe they will fall apart on their own or another alliance (ohhh, a terrorist alliance *_*) can demolish them. Otherwise, they still have the right to exist; maybe they will succeed.
2)You all talk about role playing. Some of the "wannabes" (alliances I mean) have no purpose (as in no role) not to mention a story. This is if you want against your all praised role playing.
Aww, dst, you're bitter about roleplaying as I am. n__n Anyway, why not let pointless organizations prosper? King Manu approved them; if you strongly disapprove of them, you might garner his approval for an anti-pointless alliance or oppose them some other way. If you don't strongly disapprove and just think they're pointless, you can just ignore them. Regardless, does this mean that potentially meaningful alliances should be denied existence? I don't get that logic.
3)The rules for the alliances are not well defined. Think at this scenario: the DS have one of the best bonuses (if not the best in all the alliances/guilds). What if I bring a mp3 in it? That mp3 will be god among the other mp3s. Believe me: you don't want that.
I get this one a little more than the others. But.. truthfully, do you think Manu will ever get to implementing alliance rules? Or any time soon? Do you think that alliances should therefore not exist if/until that happens? I don't think anything will happen in terms of that unless some fiasco arrives, personally, and even then, I don't know if anything would happen; maybe it should be up to the players to do something about it (besides disallow alliances in general). I wouldn't let this one stop me from creating another alliance if I wanted to.
4)My own selfish use: having more alliances means more alliance members means less battles I can fight :p (ok..I am exaggerating here :) )
    Valid.

I think, dst, maybe you just dislike alliances because most of the ones you see aren't very veritable in your eyes, but condemning them all? It's like hating on MD's whole community of people just because most of them roleplay in a manner you really, really can't stand.. :P

Oh, and Aqune, if you quit, I need contact info.. :))? As a sidenote, Aqune is right; I quit because I disliked the community in general and therefore the society they created, which is kind of like quitting because of a single individual who has lotsa influence. I also mistrusted Manu's direction.

But, personally, I'm very fond of dst, and I think it's entirely valid of him to have made personal retribution, even if he did use whatever special powers he gained from being a bug reporter--which I didn't perceive. Remember the occurrence with Ren taking action against a mp3 account because of personal conflict? That's pretty much the same as what dst did except Ren did use his rpc powers, yet my efforts to change MD society by imposing some regulation on rpcs managed nothing.

Validity isn't the same of liking, and in fact I feel like reprimanding him for being so testy and irrational (how mean, dst!), but what he did isn't much different than another player telling his friends to attack his enemy as often as possible or something like that. It's reasonable to quit/take a break in response to it, but I don't recommend leaving with a bad taste in your mouth. I'm fond of you, too, Aqune; maybe you two should try see if you can contemptuously like each other despite visible fault in the other. Both of you are very likeable for Glai.
