1. Hello.
How are you?

I am fine, but excruciatingly busy.

But thanks for asking.

I planned on doing another festival in about.. 1 week ago.
But real life makes it so that even though I am in college, I haven't had an actual vacation in approximately 25 months.
But, I can do stuff in the first week of September.
So I will (Festival starts on Tuesday the 3rd, ends on Sunday the 8th of September.. Because I have to train people on Monday, that's why).
No manager, that will have to wait for next year.

Seeing as how I am busy until end of next week (WHEN I AM FINALLY FREE ROOAAOAOAOAOAAOARGH).
I will do the stuff such as accepting nominations for legends, for next week.
Also, if people want to help me update the descriptions of current legends, please do so, I'll pay you a shiny silver coin.
If you wish to help with the trivia, I'll pay you a shiny silver coin as well.
If you wish to donate quest rewards, yay.

Winners of last year who didn't get their rewards yet, please tell me, I will finally do it, when I have free time again (after august 25th).

For more information, go check the festival editions of previous years.

2. Alright, I am slowly coming back to MD. Once my thesis is done, I'll definitely have some more time, as a lot of things will be ending in my real life.

However, I am going to be away during the usual time for the Festival of War and Remembrance, due to a vacation in China and see some family again, a debating tournament in my own city, as well as training and preparing for, and competing in, the European University Debating Championships 2013 in Manchester, I am NOT going to be able to do a lot of MD during latter 2nd half of July and the first 3 weeks of August.

This means that, seeing as I want to keep the festival going and make it more into a tradition, as well as making sure that other activities or quests go into it, I will open up the position for manager of the Festival.

It will be a paid position.
You will have some creative freedom, concerning quests and stuff.

There will be some guidelines.

There will be like 1 or 2 rules you can't break.

I am mostly putting this up now, to see if people are enthusiastic about this, or not. As well as how much in compensation they expect.
It takes at least 2 weeks.
1 week of doing stuff, and 1 week of organizing and planning and making new quests or adding stuff to the stories.

Let me kindly know your opinion on this.

3. Information regarding the Trivia contest.
The trivia contest will probably start at 21:00 server time, on the 25th of August.
The reason why it starts early, is because it took approximately 4-6 hours (can't remember), last year and the year before that... so, be sure you have some time.

First I will fire random trivia questions. First 16 players that get 4 correct, go through to the quarter finals.
First to break against nr. 16, 2nd against 15th, etc.
Semi-finals, then fight for bronze, then fight for gold.
Each round has 5 trivia questions, all of them concerning the stories I have told in the past, along with the tale of the legends.
First player to hit 3 correct answers, advances to the next round.
Each set of finals has increasingly difficult questions. The ones from semi's are already quite hard, the ones in the bronze and especially the gold fight, are brutal.

The ones who didn't make it to the semi's will be given a silver coin and a WPcode
Semi's get silver coin, angien and a WPcode.
4th place gets WP.
1st, 2nd and 3rd place get the choice between WP or a rare creature, with 1st place first pick. (But this depends on the amount of rare creatures I can give away. If I only can give 2 away, 3rd place gets choice between WP and angien plus a more worthwhile creature such as Imp, or more angiens :P)
1st place also gets a trophy.

4. The loose criteria I have in mind are:
The first in something
The leader of something
Great influence/respect
Accumulated skills, deeds and qualities over time

But if you find something else that may be newsworthy, go ahead.

5. *Not sure if this should be here, or in the market forum section*

In lieu of the upcoming festival of war and remembrance, I am very willing to commission services of the MDNP or from freelance journalists.
I have noticed that being absent for a total of 5 months of the past year, that I have a gap in my source material concerning players who may have done outstanding features.

I wish for a condense information packet (less than 1 A4) on EON, BFH Lightning, Rhaegar and Seigheart at negotiable silver prices.
I also wish for a introductory packets (1 paragraphs) on players you may think are worthwhile.
For this, I require some proof, or possible witnesses (forum posts, their friends), BUT, if I deem it not good enough, no silver.

It is totally okay to send stories about yourself, please contact me in this topic, or send me a message via the forum.

I am also looking towards a more permanent partnership or even open source cooperation, towards the vetting of the legends in my ubiquitous and arbitrary list of legends. To increase accountability, transparency and to introduce more acceptable criteria, and therefore increase acceptance overall.

6. Wow, I underestimated how much sleep I needed after trekking around the world for a half dozen weeks.

Anyway, It'll start today and the stories will last for 5 days. (unless a war breaks out, right now).
Trivia is on day 6, which is saturday, the 25th.

However, because the trivia takes a really long time, instead of 24:00 server time, it will probably start like 3 hours earlier, right after most people's dinner.

As for rewards, anything is fine, really. The rewards will be handed out to winners, but also people who make it to the octo finals, quarter finals and semi finals of the trivia. And I'll contact seigheart :).

Also, please post some people you think should be considered as legends. Because my source material is scarce due to busy times outside of MD.

7. Okay, good suggestion, because I am really tired as well. (Just came back from a 2-month long out-of-the-country trip involving family and debating).

I'll start on the 20th of August and it'll last that week.
Oh and I messed up with the time. I was thinking that server time was -1 for me, when it is +1, so I'll start on 0:00 server time (so from 13 of Aug, to 14 of Aug, not 12 to 13).

Does anyone want to donate prizes or have other suggestions?

8. Wow, great response so far.
But I won't be deterred, it's about tradition anyway.

On the 13th I will start at 22:00 server time.
As for the fighting, I won't do that, but I will still do the trivia contest. I think I have to contact the treasure keepers to ask for some kind of sponsorship, since last years it was done by Mur voluntarily.
As for the Trivia, if you were wondering, it will at least be WP's, angiens, imps, and maybe (not sure on this one), Drachs.
The way trivia will be run, will be same as last year, same for the stories and same for the legends.
If no legends are submitted before the day of legends (day 5), then, I might add 1 or 2, but nothing else.

9. Hey everyone, in case some of you were wondering, no, I am not dead yet.

I have been planning a new festival for some time, realized I was busy with all kinds of stuff and sadly then decided to postpone the festival to start on the 13th of August.
(Because, I am really, really, busy :(.)

Anyway, I decided to allow for this time to let people give feedback to the festival as a whole, to let them nominate new legends (and start a flame war about why my subjective criteria are not good), and give suggestions for improvement, or even give ideas for new quests or rewards for these quests (or the trivia contest), if they so want to.

So, uh, fire away :D

10. So, we'd have a more bare constitution. Tell, me, which laws in this icky constitution of mine, would force current guilds and alliances in GG to behave differently? (This is why I left it so empty).

Perhaps the 'all citizens have a duty to defend GG citizens', but we can remove that or change the wording in that it would just mean support, not actively fight.

And if you do remove it, wouldn't this emptiness be better, since emptiness can't be abused or loopholed?
You'd have emptiness in that part, but still 9 left. Which is something better than it is now, which is just.. pure emptiness when it comes to laws and more importantly, accountability.

And for real abuse that would still happen, we would have judges, or amendments to laws.
And it's not like people will really abuse this right now, will they?
I mean, how do you abuse non-discrimination of sex, religion, etc?

11. Okay, so the biggest form of complaint is that I use buzz words and that it is too tl;dr.
I'll fix that.

@Apophys & BFH, that is still to be decided and I left it blank intentionally. As it depends on how much accountability you want. Probably the legislative force will create and vote for laws and the executive will enforce it.

@ Juni0r.
That is what nr.5 is for. Just like national senate in the U.S.A. can make nation-wide laws, to which all states must obey, so could this new chamber, make GG-wide laws.
Such as.. I dunno, a GG-wide law that some kind of abuse will be punished, or something.

And then, much like in the USA, you'd have state-level laws, with state-level senates.
For GG, this would mean that there could be special laws passed, such as that the Lair Keepers don't have to fight a war, to uphold their role and neutrality.

When I rewrite it, is above a good enough explanation? Or should it be shorter?

12. Please Read before Voting.

The articles are in http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/11571-legal-basis-of-gg/#entry102630 With walls of text that include some reasoning and defence.

Also, this is just an opinion poll. Not an actual ratification.
And I know that there is room for improvement. Please, make your suggestions below.

13. No one has agreed with me yet.
I don't think I said somewhere that I would unilaterally impose this right? As if I even had the power :P

And if Shadow wants to help, sure :D
I mean, that is the point of this forum right? Collaborate, help each other, useful debates, etc?

I welcome everyone to help out, because I already realized that there are mighty clashes and redundant overlaps between the articles and that there may be something fundamental that I may have missed, after all, I am an international economist, not a constitutional lawyer :P

Also, anybody have any idea on how to post this for all GG citizens in the form of a referendum (when we have a polished constitution), in the forum?

14. 1: The article
2: Argumentation (Points below will flow from this point naturally).
3: Intended effect
4: Examples
5: Implications and consequences

1) Article 10: The state shall perform in duty only according to the people's will, based on their reasoning, not on their attributes nor personal attachments.

2) Argumentation:
It's basically secularism. No emotional pleas, no religious views, no opinionated perspectives will be allowed to enter legislation.
I.. don't feel like arguing this, but lets just say that it is to uphold stability and that personal views should remain respected, but not enforced, as the moment you enforce them, you may encounter a clash between two opinions or views and that the branches of government themselves may become biased because of this.

At most, the essence of rational argumentation within those pleas or views will be considered, or their moral and ethical implications.

3) Intended effect:
No stupid laws such as; we must worship a certain Bunny, or that homosexuality must be punished.

4) Examples:
See above..

5) Implications & Consequences:
I may as well post 5) and 4), huh?

15. 1: The article
2: Argumentation (Points below will flow from this point naturally).
3: Intended effect
4: Examples
5: Implications and consequences

1) Article 9: The state and its branches will hold the difference in value of the sovereignty of territory and of individuals to be standard in practice and shall thusly only hold the rules of the land and territory itself, applicable only to the possibility of the enforcement of those rules in GG territory.

2) Argumentation:
Basically, what above meant, is that GG won't do stuff or try and pass laws, which are not even physically possible to enforce, nor pass laws that change the status quo between the different factions and alliances/guild in GG.

Logical, yes. But it's also important to have this in writing. It basically means that if a law is passed that says that we.. I don't know, turn all our citizens' creatures into puppet socks, then the law still stands, but the government won't have to pursue it (meaning, lobbying Mur or whatever).
It also means that, more importantly, laws that change the relation between guild/alliances and how they operate with each other, or with the state, will not be allowed.
It is to ensure the stability between the factions and the government and its people.

3) Intended effect:
It's a control mechanism to make sure that the government, while still doing what the people want, won't actually impose its' authority on the different factions within GG, in the form of some kind of indentured servitude.

4) Examples:
Basically, no one faction can become more important than the other in a legislative means.
A law passed specifically for the MRfraternity, cannot be enforced for the GG alliance.

5) Implications & Consequences:
Uh.. above?

16. 1: The article
2: Argumentation (Points below will flow from this point naturally).
3: Intended effect
4: Examples
5: Implications and consequences

1) Article 8: As territory holds only sentimental value, the rights of the individual and the powers of the state extend upon the citizens of the state and not its sovereign territory. (this is already status quo, and really, the other lands have no legal basis, nor do we, as none of us have kings...)

2) Argumentation:
This may be kind of obvious, but still. The fact remains that the realm of MD is simply different and we must be different as well. While territory is existant, it cannot be enforced, as we don't have mechanisms for that. But more importantly, even if we do get those mechanisms in the future, it is more important to focus on that which is the purpose of society and government; the people.
As such, this article tries to instil a sense of duty towards the people and not useless scraps of land. It emphasizes the goal of the government and establishes it as one of utmost importance.

3) Intended effect:
While we would still frown on people being disrespectful in GG lands, we would not necessarily do more than that. However, if there is an offence against a GG citizen in, for instance, no man's land, it would be warrant more action by the government. In essence, the sovereignty of the government and the land, and breeches thereof, now extend to its' people.

4) Examples:
A non-GG offense on GG lands is not our problem, an offense against GG people in for instance, Loreroot or Necrovion, would.

5) Implications & Consequences:
Self-evident? Basically, people are important and territory is less so.

17. 1: The article
2: Argumentation (Points below will flow from this point naturally).
3: Intended effect
4: Examples
5: Implications and consequences

1) Article 7: The people, as they gain protection from the state, are also to be expected to protect the state and hold a civic duty to its people.

2) Argumentation:
Let's assume some certain premises, some of which have been defended already. The premises being that an orderly society is better than none, especially if one is allowed to maintain one's own sovereignty and the means to express it and defend it.
To promote this order, one requires that all people give up certain freedoms, in return they receive protection and rights.

But sometimes, even with freedoms, there will not always be enough protection, as 2 cases may occur, mayhap even simultaneously.
1 is that there are not enough people who voluntarily choose to defend these protections and uphold those rights.
2 is that there are emergency situations in which defence is paramount, as all may be lost otherwise, creating the necessity for an 'emergency-response', such as war.

While many may dislike the words 'draft' and 'conscription', I don't necessarily mean those concepts exactly, as the exact specification of this measure itself can be formed in a legislative process.

A more compelling reasoning perhaps is that if there is no such duty, that complacency may set in and that people will become too expectant on the government to protect them, while in essence, their self-governance and the necessity of self-defense are not transferred, but merely transformed. The government, in much the same way as it cannot lay claim on the right of self-governance of the people, can neither lay claim on self-defense. These two rights are simply facilitated into a more orderly and efficient manner, by the government.
As society and the government itself has the explicit purpose of increasing the opportunities for happiness, it is in the best interest of the people themselves to defend that which society provides.

This defence requires the utmost focus. To prevent leeching, as well as complacency, a duty arises. This duty is also maintained by the fact that a debt is incurred by the freedoms and protection/rights the civilian rationally consented to.

3) Intended effect:
Maybe a draft in case of war, maybe that people must help people in need, rather than being a useless bugger and abandoning fellow citizens in need.

4) Examples:
Draft (maybe), a tax in cases it is really important (for instance if there is uh.. an item or something, that magically gives everyone in GG a bonus, then, naturally everyone must pay), it really depends on how the legislative branch covers this.

5) Implications & Consequences:
A self-sustaining society in the sense that it should in principle not ever allow a hostile incursion of its' freedoms and rights.
So yeah, self-defense of society and its freedoms/rights, basically.

18. 1: The article
2: Argumentation (Points below will flow from this point naturally).
3: Intended effect
4: Examples
5: Implications and consequences

1) Article 6: The people hold right to have their sovereignty protected and as such have right to a fair trial. This also stands on the subsidiarity principle and as such holds true to article 4

2) Argumentation:
Each person gives up freedoms that come with power that each individual has, in order to partake in an orderly society which grants protection. But if a person cannot protect him or herself, then the remaining freedoms and protections can easily be taken away, inevitably leading to discontentment and disorder, as that individual has no other recourse.
In essence, if one agrees that a person has the right to self-governance, then one automatically has to right to have that sovereignty protected, as without protection, the sovereignty would naturally be eroded and destroyed, or left to the whims of others, which is counter-intuitive to the point of self-governance.

3) Intended effect:
To harmoniously (non-violently) allow the people to uphold their right to self-governance and defend it. In order to allow it, while still upholding the principles of an orderly society, one requires a compromise. This compromise is then to allow the individual to fully allow them to defend themselves, while remaining non-violent, thus ensuring concepts such as a fair trial, freedom of speech, etc.

It is still subservient to the subsidiarity principle, which means that if there is a transgression against the realm, the trial would be based upon Mur's rules, which are probably a fair trial, are not limited to the same restrictions as our trials.

4) Examples:
Fair trial.
It also means that people have a right to actual protection of sovereignty, such as, I don't know, patrols? People who address complaints where it concerns real and relevant harm.

5) Implications & Consequences:
Assured protection, making this society orderly, in every sense of the word, to allow a full defense of the sovereignty of the individual on the basis of the laws of the society. Meaning a fair trial and all that it includes, such as unbiased judges, a professional defence if desired, etc.
