1. Maybe y'all are too jaded to read the rules any more, but what I read is "nobody else will be able to have it untill you release it for an other one". That means if somebody with an avatar buys a better one, the old one goes back into the shop, yes? That's what I mean by "recycled" avatars - and I expect many of the new crop to be snatched up by older players, hense lots of old avatars released. I think they ought to be changed in SOME way (like mirror-imaging) so they don't get used EXACTLY the same way twice (unique is good). Or is this another case where it doesn't actually work the way the rules say?
2. Thanks for the company as I plugged through the story again, 24 hours at a time.

3. I think the first thing that "presents" to the player needs to be the Peasant, which is clearly distinguished as the check-point by the name, and will not be a target for requests for spoilers. Plus they can receive PM's. I think there does need to be a real player "hanging out" at each check point to react to situations, but not to BE the check-point. They would only identify themselves if needed, and would be free to move around. Use of clickables is a logical extension of this system, and I will happily take you up on the offer, as the complexity of the MDRR grows. I am not going to publish in a public log whether or not clickables have been incorporated yet at any particular point in time.
4. Waiting for Grido by Fyrd Argentus As a kid, I used to dream about being trapped in a children's prison where the big fat warden would laugh in my face and tell me there was no way out. I didn't believe him, since obviously he was here, and surely had a way out himself. So, I would go search the prison and find his way out, and return again so all the other children imprisoned there would believe me when I told them the warden had lied, and there really was a way out. This is like that, except there is no warden, and I've searched and searched, and there is no way out. I'm stranded here on the beach of this Mur-forsaken island and there is nobody, repeat, nobody else here. Gone is the noisy carnival, gone the sparring at Marble Dale Park, gone the raucous party at Wind and Rain Pub in Wind's Sanctuary. How in the world did I get myself into this? I thought I was so smart, but clearly I got myself to a place that "I Was Not Supposed To Be". I was having fun, chewing through the puzzles that Cutler had left scattered all over the Magic Duel realm and feeling pretty cocky about it, when I stumbled across – the labyrinth. There was a sign of warning from Grido suggesting I not want to pass through the labyrinth but I ignored it, thinking on my childhood dream. If there was a way in, there HAD to be a way out. I had experience with mazes before, and was sure I could do it, and that there would be some great prize (or at least bragging rights) at the end, so got out pen and paper and started mapping my every move through the maze. I had searched the forums and heard about a Great Labyrinth contest in which the player was randomly teleported every time some counter got down to zero. I quickly determined that this was some other maze. No funny business. I stayed where I went – sometimes too long, as my exploration points ran out even faster than my action points. But I mapped it. I mapped every stinking square in that maze, and found the back exit. There may have been more warnings but my greedy eye was caught by something on the sign – a question whether I had seen the treasure chest in the maze? So I went over the entire maze again – but there was nothing. At that point, I was getting tired of this place, so I took the shortest route out – and stepped out the back exit. Big mistake. For I did not pop out in the Archive Lands, or Marind's Bell, or Loreroot, or any of the places that bordered on the maze. Instead, I was magically teleported to this Mur-forsaken spot. And I'm still here today, as I write this. Of course the first thing I did was search the island. There are some very interesting places, and others that I am "Not Allowed" into. But no roads off the island. Next I started searching all the clickables, thinking perhaps the puzzle was not over. But there was no escape - except possibly one. I found the spot that allowed you to astral project. Eureka! I cried, and left the island. But only my soul left. I exited the astral plane in Marind's Bell, and poof! I was back on the island. Next I searched for a hidden exit from the island. There were a few differences between the astral plane and the actual island. But the big glaring difference was that the astral plane showed an arrow leading across the bridge to the mainland, but when I went to see, it was not really there. So I sat by the bridge, and waited for someone to come across and help me. Diary Entry: I am not alone! Two characters arrived while I idled, possibly over the bridge. Both are now idle, but I PM'ed them both to ask for help. More waiting. Eventually, Pazur PM'ed me back and explained there were two ways off the island. If you have pass papers, like the other idle character had, you can just walk across the bridge. He showed me how to check their inventory, and see what pass papers looked like. Too bad I couldn't pick pockets. The other way was to make arrangements with somebody on the outside, such as he had done, with somebody like dst or Grido, to get him off the island. Pazur promised to ask someone to rescue me too, and then he left. And so the waiting continued. Waiting, and waiting. Waiting for Grido. Diary Entry: I have been hitting the LHO button and asking to get help, but whoever was on duty was not answering their mail - or maybe didn't want to help me. Finally, the shifts changed, and who should appear as the next Live Help Operator - but Grido! I finally have a way to contact him directly, and I am going to do so at once! Well, I got Grido, and he PM'ed me back. Yes, he could get me off the island with a magic spell he had, but he only had a limited number of casts, and he was going to wait until a certain other person was ready to come back too, and bring us both with one spell. "When?" I asked. I didn't like the answer. It could be a long time. Be patient. Very patient. Hey wait a minute, Grido is the one who posted the warning sign back at the Labyrinth. If the labyrinth was his, he must have set up the teleport too. He is the one that trapped me here, and now I'm supposed to trust him to rescue me? My paranoia ran wild. So why was I here? Maybe this was some sadistic experiment and I was the subject. This was supposed to be the land of weird experiments. What was in store for me now? Would I wander here forever until I went insane, while everybody laughed at me? Or would they start messing with my mind? Maybe things will start changing, doors and windows to other places might be opening and closing, while I just sat here and waited. Again I searched all the clickables for a clue, and came back to the Astral Projection function. Hmm, maybe here was the reason behind it all. I can go anywhere, and see anything with this. Maybe they were leaving me here until I realized what a boon it was to be able to astral project and see the entire Magic Duel realm. So I began to explore. I saw the Champion's Dome up close, entered the Sage's Keep, explored the trails of Loreroot, saw dark rituals going on in Necrovion. And then I stuck my astral nose someplace "I Was Not Supposed To Be" and got killed. Not really killed, but my soul was no longer allowed to astral project. The one thing that gave this exile meaning, astral projection, was now closed to me. I made an entry on my hate list about this whole situation, believe you me. What a prize, for solving a puzzle. I was not a happy camper. But that pretty much brings us up to date. I am sitting here on a beach, waiting. Hoping that somebody out there will remember me, and rescue me. I'm afraid to keep asking them, or they may get mad and decide to leave me here. So I wait quietly. Tired of sitting on the sand, I pace up and down. Wait, pace. Stand, pace. Standing still. Waiting. Waiting for Grido. XD - Update; Grido teleported Fyrd off Golemus at Apr 13 22:45:18 - Grido (i dont mind being reminded, nice story ) Pazur told me it was actually dst who got him out - but he mentioned both names to me, and I was genuinely struggling to take it all in at the time. Minor edit will correct this error. Fyrd.
5. I intend to keep this open to all players -- public lands only -- so the loreroot gates are OUT. (I still havn't gotten through them myself! Day 48 and counting.) And no tangling with the Dark Slime, etc.
6. I will write you a story. Update: I have written the story. Now I have to figure out how to get it to you. Part of the challenge I guess. I'll be out of story mode soon, so should make the deadline okay. Updating the update -- umm, if I'm reading this right, you want me to just paste it in a block here on the forum? Is that right?
7. The peasants (and I did clear these special alts with Chewett) are just mobile signposts (no creatures). I imagine I will need help, but people with brains can do more important things. And it may be a long time before I can access clickies personally. On timing -- 30 seconds per scene AVERAGE plus 10 minutes per gate should be AMPLE time to rush through the course and then take extra time on a few spots. That's the way RL rallies are run - you drive faster than the posted speed, then time your crossing of the check point after you arrive to hit it on the nose. The difference here might be that somebody is shooting at you as you wait.... 30 seconds per action point is just slower than the slowest regeneration time I am aware of. I think regeneration will be the limit here, not connection speed. If somebody has data that shows otherwise, please share.
8. I just posted my Magic Duel Road Rally rules. A few TS's would be nice to round out prizes for the top 3, depending on what other sponsors I can get.
9. There are no further rallys planned. The prizes, energy, and clickie coding space I have are all going to other quests. If anybody wishes to organize and operate another rally, I will definitly help. Contact me if you are interested. ================================================================== First Rally was run May 3-4, 2010, and good fun was had by all 5 participants. Second rally ran May 18-19, with 9 starters. Third Rally ran June 8-9, with 12 starting competitors. RALLY NUMBER 4 ran 03:00 ST Sunday July 18, with 5 of the possible 8 starters present actually competing. ========================================================== Magic Duel Road Rally Rules by Fyrd Argentus http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/6848-magic-duel-road-rally/#entry57986 These competitions will be held periodically, and are designed to test your detailed observation of the lands through which you are passing. Simple Rules: Start at the beginning, follow the scavenger-hunt-like directions from Peasant to Peasant and PM each in turn, trying to hit as close as possible to the proper time mark -- 30 seconds per action point from official start time. Whoever comes closest to the right times wins. Fine Print: There will be an official starting point and time announced in the MOOD PANEL, along with preliminary instructions. Participants must follow these instructions to navigate a pathway through the common areas of the realm, at a speed of 1 action point per 30 seconds, making detailed observations of the landscape as part of the instructions. When the end-point is reached, the player must report (by PM'ing the judge at that location) the total number of action points it takes to navigate the course – and should do so as close to 1 minute after the start time per 2 action points of the course. Score is -3 per error in reported path length, and -6 per deviation from proper elapsed time in minutes (fractions retained, as based on PM time-stamp). Check-points – scattered along the route are characters with name "Peasant" followed by a roman numeral. Players must PM these peasants with CUMULATIVE path length of the course so far, and at the proper time mark, just as if this was the endpoint, and player score will be adjusted in the same manner as at the endpoint. Also, the personal papers of the peasant will contain additional instructions, which supersede any previous instructions. Missing a check point completely results in an automatic -1000 to score, which is also the cap on penalty per check-point. [Edit] ~ FIRST PM COUNTS, no do-overs! ~ Winner and runners-up are determined by smallest total penalty score for all check-points and end-point combined. Those failing to report at the end-point before the Rally is called to a close will not be considered. Number and nature of the prizes depends on donations by sponsors, right up to the finish of the rally. Delayed Start – Players don't actually have to start at the right time, but will suffer serious time penalties when they report in at check-point and end-point. Rally will continue until accumulated time delay penalty makes it impossible to beat the scores that have already placed. Doubling Back – You may of course double back for clues, cut cross country, or do whatever is necessary to arrive at each check-point and the end-point at the proper time, but you must report path length in action points as if you had followed the instructions exactly. North, south, east, west, etc. – refer to directions as given on the master map, with North at the top of the map. Left, right, in, out, etc. refer to directions from the point of view of the scene image, whereas turning left, right, etc. applies from the point of view of following the road. When multiple choices are available in a turn, they will be distinguished as "bear right" (slight turn) or "sharp right", for instance. For purposes of this rally, a "league" is defined as 12 action points of move. This is 6 minutes at the running speed of the road rally, or very roughly 1 hour at slow march speed of historic armies. "Lone tree" refers to any tree whose leaves do not touch another tree – all bushes etc. count as trees. "Stone" refers to any irregular (natural) shaped stone that shows white inside. "Brick" refers to any deliberately shaped (rectangle etc.) stone. Assistance of any kind from other players is allowed, and interference with each other is allowed, but each player reporting in will get their own score. Tampering with or impersonating the peasants, or other forms of cheating, will be dealt with accordingly by the judges. Those who win a wish point in one rally may compete again, but may not win additional wishpoints in subsequent rallys. ================= Past Winners and Prizes =============================================== PRIZES FOR THE FIRST RALLY: 1ST Place to Lightsage - A Wishpoint, sponsored by King Lifeline of Marind's Bell. 2nd Place to Mighty Pirate - 5 Credit package from Kyphis of Legend Speakers. 3rd Place to Shnappie - An aged Angien from Kyphis of Legend Speakers. 4th Place to Burns - 5 Silver 5th Place to Mya Celestia - 3 Silver PRIZES FOR THE SECOND RALLY: 1st Mighty Pirate - A Wishpoint, sponsored by King Firsanthalas of Loreroot. 2nd Mya Celestia - 5 credits sponsored by Kyphis of Legend Speakers. 3rd Asterdai - Aged TS from Grido 4th Clock Master - 5 silver 5th Czez - 3 silver 6th BFH Lighthing - Pimped Grasan from Kyphis of Legend Speakers. 10. If we get a crop of new Avatars, we will also get a lot of "recycled" ones available. Idea for freshening up recycled Avatars - when they go back on the market, mirror-image them. Then they'll be just a bit different from the original, which would be good. Other ways to easily "freshen up" this crop of recyles should be considered too. For instance maybe upgrade them with a dash of color gratis....

12. So the other day I donated a credit to the Artisan's Guild in hopes of supporting the Avatar creation process (per the Treasury tab). Yesterday I read that it is defunct. So where did my credit go? More to the point, what CAN we graphically-challenged types do to help the process?
13. 2 silver for either one of the elementals, or 3 for the pair, but you would have to hold 'em until I get out of story mode.
14. I'm not eligible yet (loreroot problems), but maybe will be by time this quest hits final stage. For bait - use a desperate somebody trapped in a desolate place, like an mp3 in GG, or february in that temple. Then, surround the place with light so it can't escape. Finally, there is precident for reattaching shadows - Wendy sewed on Peter Pan's shadow. What to use for needle and thread though? To pierce shadow, the lightest and brightest metal -- mithril. To hold on in the face of corruption, the hair of the purest of animals, the unicorn. And I just happen to have a unicorn-haired mithril-bodied autoharp.....
15. I would be interested in helping. I'm a game-rule lawyer and puzzle fanatic and learned computer programming in the days of punch cards. If you need help with the written stuff or other window dressing, I could do that professionally as well (as a Legend Speaker).
16. As of this moment, the fenths press still "advertises" that there WILL be a temporary gain for sacrificing lvl 1 creatures (e.g. bird egg). However it is supposed to work, this MISINFORMATION needs to be corrected.
17. I have NEVER been able to edit my K document - I get the same error. There is nothing to save - I have never got as far as the editor.
18. Answer: no I have not tried clearing cache. I now have all "good" equipment and indeed, no problems any more.
19. At 11818 I got 200, not 236 from buying this potion. The description is wrong.
20. Now 8 hours later with a new message, I can access everything. I have lots of old mail, but it was all stored in the "cloud" storage device. However I have been in this configureation before without losing acess to it. BTW - the cloud storage device sometimes becomes blind to my selections and won't let me move more mail into catagories, insisting I select a message when I have already done so.
21. I have outgoing message control and various mail-list sorting features. Suddenly I'm seeing this picture of a desk and can't look at my old mail. I can send a message off the friends list and there is a "view list" button after you send -- it takes me to the desk picture too. 11:22 EST USA, 3/21/2010
22. I picked up a torch and dropped it by logging out. Everything seemed normal until I tried to sacrifice a creature -- wouldn't even let me look at the list. I went back and got a torch and was killed -- then the Fenths Press was normal again. Seems that things are not fully cleared if you drop the torch the wrong way.
23. I was told that getting better equipment will make this happen less, and it's true! I'm now carrying a gladiator shield and the only thing I lose on going idle is my shoes!
24. Yipee, Happy Ending! FireFox - plus Adobe Flashplayer was the key. My solution was accepted. Thanks for all the help everybody, especially Chewett.
25. Chewett, thanks for working with me this morning. Here is the screen shot. Everybody - we seem to arrive where Mur was at first - it's the browser.
