Consequences and Mechanics of Death, plus possible adjustments
Grido replied to Grido's topic in General Forum
If you recall, there was also the mention of a chance to fail, and get caught in that suggestion, again cause and effect. Much like a person with a kill item has the choice to use it, so does the revival use, rather than any job. But you hold a point as to the philosophical nature of whether killing someone is just as bad as not intervening and allowing someone to die. -
I would definitely like to see where you're getting that info from.. I'm not saying you're wrong, admittedly I don't know the current situation, but when I got my revival tool it was agreed to have half the regen time of kill items, as there were half as many of them as the kill tools, so as to even it out.. To have choices of people for the role, we either have to have volunteers or suggestions of people first. Is there any suggestions on what repercussions the Warrant Officer should deal out?

I thought you just meant they were really late, rather than not done at all, either way, will be sorted out, and this year wont have those complications :) Any other points people would like to discuss, particularly suitability of the event ceremony date

Consequences and Mechanics of Death, plus possible adjustments
Grido posted a topic in General Forum
Because killing has a more permanent effect on people and is generally seen as being wrong (note, not bad). -
The event organisers have been updated to how they now currently stand; Ailith, dst, and myself. Also, Syrian, it's been confirmed that they weren't given out, so will be sorting that out for last year's winners.

I was under the impression that had been done, will look into that, presuming you're correct, next couple days hopefully.

So, the year has rolled around once more, and so we once again have our MD Awards. Currently it will be Rophs and myself organising, along with a third person. If you want to help out please drop either of us a message, ideally you should have been to at least one previous awards. Ailith, dst and myself will be hosting this year. Discussion wise, I have already had feedback telling me to be more organised with it this year, including handing out the trophies during the ceremony itself, so I shall arrange for that to happen, medal boxes also already have the 2014 md award ready on it so they can also be given out at the time. Rophs is going to help me with the timings and things not getting delayed. Please let us know of any other issues you found last year in the hopes that they can be overcome on this one. All aspects of the awards are up for discussion up until the point each part begins. The exact categories and nominees will be discussed in separate threads to this, but the total amount of categories or min/max nominees for each category might be discussed here. The date and time of the ceremony should also be discussed here, I have currently proposed it to be just after Christmas, on the 28th December. Information relating to how the awards will run as it currently stands;
- There will be a maximum of 10 categories. - The previous categories will be listed in a thread, and players can then argue for different ones to be added/removed - if players agree, then it will be so. - Certain categories have relevant restrictions on them, these can be changed/created/removed, but only prior to nominations opening. - There will be 3 people counting votes and organising this. These people will not be able to be nominated, however they are able to vote. - You may not nominate those who belong to the same land as yourself (this not only means hard-coded, but also those people considered part of certain lands). "This is an MD awards event, if a person deserves one of the awards, it is on the global level, not on local level, however capable the person is, which justifies the ban of the land nominations , possibly votes too".* If you note nominations slipping through this, please let an organiser know. - There will be a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 5 players nominated for each category. - Past winners will be allowed to be nominated again, however, if there are more than 5 names nominated when it closes, those will be the first removed. - Mur cannot be nominated (sorry Mur), and Chewett cannot be nominated for Top Techy (or another award along the same lines). - Previous Fossil (or a similar award if that does not exist this year) winners, cannot win again. - You may only nominate one person per category. If you nominate multiple people, none will be added. - You may not nominate yourself, or another account you play. - No editing posts in the nomination thread - purely because I'll potentially get confused. - We will ideally use the in game voting system. - There's no restriction on voting for those of the same land. - There will be no restriction on the amount of voters, there will however be a limited timeframe to vote in - this will be 11 days. - You do not have to vote in each category (though it's preferable). - If you vote for yourself in anything, all your votes will be discounted. - If players that have voted are detected as alts of each other, all associated votes will be discounted. (If you have multiple accounts, you're fine, but only vote once per person please), they will also be disqualified from any nominations your accounts may have. - Players under 20 AD will be unable to vote. I can't think of any other particular details currently, please ask if you think I've missed anything (in addition to discussing various points). If you are against any aspect with how it's set to run, please raise it and suggest alternatives. *
Associated to a land includes being part of an alliance or a citizen, as well as those on temporary absence from them, but is not exclusive to just that mechanical association. It also extends to a player who feels they belong to a certain land, or who through largely exclusive association or actions is viewed as of a certain land. Those who since those actions visibly associate themselves with another land would then no longer be thought of as with the former. Alliance hoppers, or those that take alliances without intended association with the land the new alliance is a part of are exceptions and will be treated based on perception, rather than mechanical.

(The above is mostly copied from last year, so there may be some inaccuraces - please point them out) Schedule for the process is as follows; Sun 16th November - Discussion thread opens Sun 23rd November - Categories thread opens Sun 30th November - Cats closes, Nominations open Sun 7th December - Nominations close Wed 10th December - Voting opens Sun 21st December - Voting closes Sun 28th December - Proposed Award Ceremony date All previous MD Award threads can be found via the topic-tagging system under "MD Awards" if you don't know how to get to that, look just below the title of the thread and click on the words below the Started by.. line.

*split principle discussion, you can find it here*

most have an "under construction" at the end of mp5, and when requirements are met move up to mp6 with no story.

@Ary, DD, Save your objections to it being given out to someone without effort being put in until it actually is given out. The person would have to be appropriate for the role, but it would be a role that requires tools for it to work, rather than something that is possible to be acted out prior. The idea stemmed from something that I could do, but after talking with others and fleshing it out realised it would not be appropriate for me to perform this role, and so I offer a framework up to someone else. @No one, The court is for people who break the game rules or similar idea. Killing is perfectly allowed within the limits of the rules. Not restrict as in ban, no. More restrictive in that it affects the person differently and differentiates from jail. Don't know what your point is with the third bit, yes solely to counter killings, not any other sort of spell action.

The evidence for proof would be variable, can come from anywhere as an individual you would have to use whatever you were able to to convince those 3 people that it was the person you think it was. Motive and opportunity have been enough in the past to convict someone, you don't always need physical evidence. There wouldn't need to be any public or private ranting back and forth between two people each accusing the other, because it'd be up to someone to convince 3 of the determinates, rather than the community.
-
Also there's a pictographic representation here
-
Exempt because the idea is to create a new role, not to punish another for having a role already in existence, it's not his fault people want to kill others, he just facilitates. Potentially the contract could be hidden from the logs?
-
Principles are the general concepts of how existence works. We are able to manipulate certain facets of existence more easily than others.
-
Role suggestion; First; Thoughts? Second; If implemented, type of sentencing would need to be determined, it's been suggested it should be more restrictive than jail. Third; Anybody who feels they would be suitable for such a role should it come to be?
-
Only works if you have some way to gain extra principle types, you lose them going from 6>5, but there's no current way to pick up extra ones when you move up, so no adjusting possible.
-
It's about changing it so that you get more for each day in a row you log in, to encourage you to not miss days and stick around. The tactic may be sleazy, but it's a tactic that works, which is why so many games use it. It's not about grabbing money (like some of the other sleazy tactics that are used are), just increased player retention.
-
If you base it on a Burst, it means the player has to be a fighter, hard to base it off RP if that's the way they play aside from measuring how many characters they type, at the end of it all because there's so many different ways to play the game, it'd be virtually impossible to have a universal way of measuring activity mechanically. If the argument is that if you log in you don't have to do anything to get the ad, then if all I need to do to get this bonus is type . and enter for a certain amount of lines, it'd come back to the same point. Someone early on who has made the effort to log back in for the reward that day is going to do something whilst logged in, someone older might not but then this is more designed to attract and reward newer people anyway.

There might be many words I would post here if it weren't for certain rules in place, but I will leave it as annoying* that you close an auction without prior notice, contradicting all previous statements made by you that it would have a 2 day cooldown after the previous bid. I disregard your apology that I did not get a chance to bid as I do not believe it is a genuine one. *yes, this word would be replaced
-
So no chance for me to outbid Ledah? Because I didn't log on within an hour of his posting?
-
Currently there's no way to check how long a player has been active on any specified day, whereas we can see if someone has logged in. If you look at measures of early activity in any game, a person is more likely to return if they gain something from it, they have to be interested in the first place, granted, but it pushes them towards returning more than having no such incentive. Returning to something is not as straight forward as "I love it - I'll return" and "I don't - I won't", currently we retain those that love it, awesome, but there's some wiggle room in the middle where someone can be convinced to return using some simple psychology like incentivised return. Early on it's likely that if you log on, you'll do something, as opposed to log right out again.

The reason I mentioned dst/Eon/etc is because I only view this as a revenge spell. One that provides a negative impact, yes it's interesting, but I don't see any positive outcome from it being implemented.
-
@TRM, wp for ad doesn't encourage you to log on every day because it's very much a case of - if you stick around a bit, you'll get it eventually no matter what you do. It's about attracting those casual people who might pop by every few days otherwise to actually make a point of logging in each day and keeping them around. Itemised reward for doing so - yes there is a block on transferring things between alts, but where there's a will, there's a way. It would be best, as already said, for whatever the reward to be, to be personal and non-transferable. And yeah, it shouldn't be a flat +2 per day, because then it really wouldn't matter if you missed a day, more you get a +1 for the first day, working it's way up to a +30 on the last (exp graph). Possibly throwing in an incremental partial credit amount on days 5,10,20,30 for that extra incentive.

Even being frozen in fear, it'd take a while to get over it, even if the object of that fear is no longer present. If someone threatened you with a knife, you'd still feel the effects of the encounter after the aggressor had left.
