So, it seems a destiny of military intervention is in the future of the TW, that much I admit, but I would not like to abandon the ideas that the TW are also scholars and researches who focus on improvement and evolution of military arts. These methods of course deal with anything by all means necessary with no thought as to the moral consequences of their actions. Unfortunately though, this does produce some "failed" results that have permanent effects.....

Effectively, I'm falling back to my second idea presented in my first post on this thread about the TW being an Arcane Science Division. The alterations to this concept I would like to apply to this is that they are veteran warriors whose intense loyalty to the shades and the land (in accordance to Chad's ideas) have been recognized to have effectively made them "nobility" (or knights if the term nobles sounds too imposing: we can come up with a better term later) of the land and are allowed into the ranks of TW. There, they still fight, but their missions are a bit more challenging then those of the Sentinels(such as diplomacy/espionage, contests, and research into a creature/land ), who still deal in general military operations and basic / advanced military arts training. But the TW delve deeper into the secrets of the shades and conduct research into the Shade's being and scientific experimentation with certain materials exclusive to Necrovion. Any findings they discover concerning military will be shared with Sentinels as well, but any connections they maintain with the Shades and information gained remains their own.....

The TW also have the ceremonial duty to act as a royal guard to the royalty of Necrovion as well as preparing for a final battle that will eventually occur...

Obviously these conditions will make joining the TW difficult, but that is the point since it will require lots of participation. I know earlier I said that I would like to ease the emphasis on the "elite" standing, but with these new parameters, being elite is pretty much a requirement: both in the function of the group and to differentiate itself from the Sentinels. That is not saying the TW will only recruit the best of the best. It is only saying that only the truly loyal will become a TW. The TW will also still work very closely with its sister alliance the Sentinels in defense of Necrovion.

EDIT: This is just an outline, I wrote this real fast so I might of left out some details which include ideas from everyone else who has posted that are really good!

It seems in general there are some ideas that the TW would replace the Sentinels as the military force of Necrovion while the Sentinels took on some other role. However, I don't really see why would this be the case though because there is really no reason to replace them. Also, maybe the emphasis on the "elite" should be put aside for a little while at least. Of course, I would love to see the TW as an elite group, but doing so at the cost of taking away from the Sentinels wouldn't be worth it or fair.

As far as tainted goes, I agree with Mala that the TW really shouldn't care or concern themselves with the ends justifying the means. In the end though, I think the source of the tainted goes into some secret/cursed resource stored away in Necro that can be either known or unknown to other lands. If it was known, it would generally be considered "tainted" to others.

As far as being undead / zombification though, that might be limiting to players who wish to join TW in terms of Role play. The method you described (special poison) might also stray into a concept that infringes on the role play of other characters (ex: Granos is the way he is now because of the waters in the fountain of dark vibrations). Unless the alliance / guild becomes centered around a specific character's role ( ex: Savelite's Church ) I would like to stay away from being too similar to already existing roles of players not directly involved with the alliance at this time.

Depending on the initial size of the TW, I wouldn't like to start setting up a command structure yet. If the TW is small to start with, I would like to experiment with having the TW as a special council or order with a captain or general leader of the order but all members are more are less equal agents to the same cause.

Again, just because I have criticized any points presented does not mean I disapprove or reject any ideas. I merely seek to add and revise any ideas to optimize the effectiveness of a new alliance for Necrovion both in combat gameplay and general roleplay.

To put this as kindly and and mannered as possible: Mur did say to come up with creative roles for this alliance/guild. Does it really matter that much that the name is Tainted Warriors, so their role is limited to that of "Warriors"? What's wrong with having some educated soldiers behind the lines? I'm not saying they're all going to be librarians and researchers, but a significant function of TW could (emphasis on could, conditional, not concrete) be gathering choice bits that the real Archivists don't feel like sharing with the world. Would it be too difficult to change the name of the guild too with enough support behind an idea for another function of the second Necrovion alliance besides "Tainted Warriors". The Knights Hospitaller name is a bit counter-intuitive too.

Now, with that said, I could easily live without the concept of the Dark Archive and the TW being something else entirely. I understand that instituting a second archive would be quite a difficult concept to implement now. But I just think to make this guild all about fighting too will overlap way too much with the Sentinels. They've got to have some angle that makes them unique within not just the land but in the universe of the other alliances as well. I'm also not saying their existence should be completely devoid of fighting either, its just I feel general conquest and defense operations should belong to the Sentinels.

I'm also not arguing why my vision of TW is right, like I said in a previous post, I'm very open to Nex's idea for TW. I'm also very happy that this topic is on the forums and is open to discussion for people to agree and disagree on concepts to evolve the role of the TW. All I'm saying is that we shouldn't restrict ourselves just because of a name.

Finally, I'm sorry for this little rant and mean no disrespect to those who disagree: Your opinions are just as valuable too and may be the correct judgment. Great powers above know I'm not 100% right all the time. This is just my stance and felt that I should express it as clearly as possible.

Oh no! Things are hitting the fan, KOTR style! Sith v. Jedi! It's on!

Anyway, I like and support Nex's idea too about being closer to the shades and representing the land itself and transcending humanity (if I have interpreted that right). In that case, the TW could be made up of warrior monks, priests, or special shade shamans of the sort.

My thoughts on Necrovion's second alliance parallel that to both Ledah's and stormrunner's ideas of who the Tainted Warriors should be. I've always had the idea for an alliance "Black Scythe Order" that operated in complete anonymity, counter to Ledah's plan that the alliance is feared. Instead, they should be a known name - kind of like CIA, FBI, KGB, or MI5 - but no one really knows how or where they are operating. And of course there will be the crazies that always think they are watching when they are not (or are they?!?). I also agree with Ledah's idea of the "Dark Archivists", who steal info from the other Archivists and gathering more on Necrovion and burning the rest. The other function of Tainted warriors would be parallel to stormrunner's idea where they are an elite squad of commandos acting in only small but dangerous operations and as Secret Service to the King/Queen. Most operations are secret to the Monarch to maintain "plausible deniability", but if she were to ask for important information they would deliver.

So in summary, they would be like a national security force in protection of the Monarch and in charge of building a Necrovion Archive.

Another branch might be an Archane Science Research Division, but that might be a little too ambitious/ too large a role for this alliance right now. However, that might be the main role for this alliance too (wink, wink, for anyone who wants to pursue this idea). Kind of like Braiton's role magnified to an entire alliance.

Why might I lead this alliance? Well, I have been around for a while so I've helped my share of new players and think I've grasped how the game works. I have considered Necrovion my home since day one too and whether official or not have been a member of the sentinels for quite a while. I can't guarantee that the alliance will be a stunning success, all I can do is promise to build this alliance as strong as possible and not abandon it.

The sheer rarity of particular "raw materials" is indeed a problem since no one is completely how to re-acquire the item once they have parted ways again. I do believe setting a standard and constant way of reacquisition of raw materials is the solution to these woes. I've read the previous posts and it seems we all share the same predicament as to how to treat these materials. In general, items are still a rarity and having one of anything is a source of some excitement. I for one believe it is better to have than have not, no matter the value or worth of the item you have in your possession. But like others have expressed a strict economic control must be applied to avoid flooding the market with raw materials while also maintaining the scarcity of said raw materials. To wrap up this long winded post, I just want to post some brainstormed solutions to this item problem. I don't necessarily agree with the points I bring up, but I believe they each bring about a fair balance to raw material acquisition. each bullet point is independent upon the other ideas:

For the mining / lumberyard idea, with a specific place meant to gain wood/ore, anyone should be able to do this. The two caveats to this idea should be 1. The process of mining/lumberjacking/etc. should take the entire day, so you will not be able to move or attack (or be attacked?) while working, only live chat until you are done with working to get 1 wood/ore. Having an axe or pick would increase the amount of wood/ore you get per work day (say 5 wood or ore per work day).

Make finding raw materials a luck factor. Just as the luck stat attributes to finding gold coins occasionally (in the form of value points), a (very) small percentage should be devoted to randomly finding a raw material. Also, what material you find is dependent upon which land you are in (example: you are far more likely to find wood in Loreroot, ore in GG, bones in Necro, fabric in MB) Having/crafting axes or picks or needles increases this chance.

Have raw materials age like creatures, with some depreciating in value and some appreciating. Examples include:
wood -> aged wood -> petrified wood -> rotten wood -> mulch,
stone -> hard rock -> cracked rock -> fragile rock -> dust,
coal -> dark coal -> hardened coal -> pressurized coal -> diamond

Should there be a limit to the number of items you carry? And should this inventory system be weighted with each item carrying a weight value, or slotted with each item occupying one slot (coins not included in this inventory system)?

To avoid alt abuse, a similar system as the trade advisor should be applied to the transfer of items as well.
These are just some ideas I wanted to share. I know I haven't really addressed the issue of tools like axes and picks, but without a set way of constructing purchasing these tools, I don't know myself. Like I said before, this is just some brainstorming I've done. I apologize if I have infringed upon someone else's idea and feel free to think these ideas are just dumb.

Probably just some really Farfetch'd ideas I'm coming up with at this point, but maybe set up some signboards around each land that can only be edited by the king/queen (all signboards will convey the same message) Then with the citizenship deal, each citizen gets a "ring" item that lets them read special private parts of the signboards in their land. So in general, all signboards are readable to all players, but signboards in specific lands will have private areas seen only by the citizens of that land.

Too much to be implemented at this point?
