1.
they are the last line of defense, if necessary the tainted warriors strike fast and merciless. they care little for politics, for the sentinels take care of this.

basicly a first line of defense or offense while the sentinels deal with the information...
not sure if there was a misunderstanding, just in case 'last line of defense' doesn't mean they are the last or least likely to join a battle, it means they are the last to stand once everyone else has fallen, basicly referring to the elite corps concept. but contrasting with cryx, i wouldn't think they are the first in every conflict either (in a conflict of political nature, if the shades see no reason to act for lack of real threat/benefit, the tainted warriors might remain silent too, waiting for the most appropriate time to strike). anyway, if those ideas are appealing interpret them as you deem adequate
2. it's fairly obvious, but since everyone else is stressing it: i, too, don't aspire after leadership of the ally, being a MR and all, i'm merely stating an idea of what the tainted warriors could be like.
3. my idea for the tainted warriors: the sentinels represent the human alliance of necrovion, their first leader was accepted by the shade sentinel. the tainted warriors should represent the wild nature of necrovion, the nature of shades. an alliance of those who try to overcome their human perception, to step beyond human doubt, human moral, to act 'ziran', in sync with the pulse of necrovion itself. the true leader of the tainted warriors is the summoned army, the manifestation of the primal force of necrovion. each human leader of the alliance has to be accepted by both the queen of necrovion and by the land, represented by summoned army, but s/he swears fealty only to the land, to the shades. i speak not of acting like a mindless beast, but of aspiring to reach a level of empathy with the land that allows you to feel its will, and to act accordingly. while only a few chosen have transformed into true halfshades, each member of the alliance should be willing to pursue the goal of unity with necrovion, in mind and body. they are the last line of defense, if necessary the tainted warriors strike fast and merciless. they care little for politics, for the sentinels take care of this. their goal is to strenghten the shades and necrovion. in reflecting the 'mirrors' they try catch a glimpse of infinity.
4. i'd say if alpha 10 should start depends on the scale of changes the stages should stand for. should each stage represent the introduction of certain projects and ideas or more an overall progress to general vision of MD? if you see the versions as eras or chapters of MD history, i'd say the actual impact of changes, both mechanic-wise and on a 'political-'/ RP-level, would make a good decisive factor if a new chapter is reached. since you are working on many projects behind the scenes, i'd agree with jester that finishing the important ones that have been actually introduced and implemented in alpha 9 before starting the next chapter would have a more complete feel to it.
5. hmmm, maybe i misunderstood you, but if you only have the six creatures you mentioned and no influence, it's no strategy, but pure luck. all those creatures have only random targets at level 1 (grasan multirandom). your only choices would be to put the archers to weaken def or attack and to use less than those 6, but without influence that wouldn't make sense either. the idea of a strategizing contest with constrained setups is nice though. (you might be interested to check my military papers for some ideas of special limitations/rulesets etc )

Tournament

Sounds good! If time allows it, i'm in.
7. my vote goes to L all of the questions are on a high level, some answerable by strategizing, some by (historic) research, all top niveau. even i couldn't answer them all offhand.
8. regarding lifelines/libs application: hmmm, crude but vivid. does fit the role too. but racism, rabble-rousing and the rather blatant distortion of facts are a bit too much. the idea of such a form of application is quite good though. to quote another opinion on that matter: "You know the Lost balance and conflict is caused by what? Before the humans appeared, everything was fine, after we appeared, the shades attacked because we made the world unbalanced. We are the ones out of place." - Sol, adept of dao, sage and one of the founding members of SoE, about shade balance.
9. Happy Birthday Pamplemousse! May you always have good company, good health, good wine and the time to enjoy those pleasures
10. torture device with added contest idea. i can not provide pictures or scetches, both because i don't have a scanner and because some-things-are-not-meant-to-be-seen. your imagination will do fine Disclaimer: obviously this is about torturing. its ferocious and cruel fun. if you believe in modesty or are easily offended you probably shouldn't read it overview: device the subject will get a magical device implanted in its head. this device is directly linked to some important centers (like the the pain center) of the subjects brain. when the subject tells a lie, it will induce intense but nonlethal pain in the entire body. if the subject passes out, the device will induce a stimulus to bring it back to consciousness. it is also linked to a remote controll and an implant in each of the subjects limbs which will be illucidated later. it should go without saying that there will be no anaesthetisation for the implantation. uses: while originally invented for gathering information from enemies, the uses for pain and public amusement are sheer limitless! once all 5 devices are implanted, the subjects will be tied to poles at GoE. here, my AMUSE YOUR AUDIENCE!!! contest [not an official contest (yet)] will be held. a contestant gets to interrogate a subject (one subject per contestant), trying to rile up the audience with juicy bits and humiliating details from the subjects life. no matter what, the crowd gets amused! either by the screams of unbearable pain when telling a lie, or by the skillfully exposed shameful secrets of the subjects life. soap opera and gory festival in one !! after the time for interrogation is up, the contestant gets to choose one of the four buttons of the remote controll, as grand finale of his performance. the buttons are randomly linked to one implant in the subjects limbs. those implants are: 1. ICE. the limb freezes and the contestant gets the chance to smash it in a spectacular and classy fashion. 2. BLADES. small blades will extent from the implant and begin to rotate. the contestant has 30 seconds to flavour as many "authentic bloody maries" with the pouring blood as possible. the drinks will then be distributed to the audience. 3. FIRE. the implant glows whitehot and will set the limb ablaze. the contestant gets to roast as many marshmellows as possible until the limb is consumed or the fire dies down. those will be distributed to the audince as snacks. 4. ACID. the limb will be eaten away by acid. no game prepared for this, be creative. once all contestants are finished the audience gets to rate their overall performance. additionally, the RNG in each device will transmit a number from our public raffle. the lucky winners get to choose how to finish off the subjects! they can freely choose one of those options: 1 EXPLOSION. blows up the device. effectful and gory - a classic. 2 ELECTROCUTE. overcharges the device to fry the subjects brain. 3 DRILL. drill until the device leaves the body. BLOODY MARY FOR ALL!! 4 CREATIVITY. thats right. you get a pot of salt and a bunch of sharp, blunt and unspeakable objects to have a little fun yourself.
11. Happy B'day MRD and Udgard, have a nice one!
12. number of creatures is limited by shop resets, value of principles by exp cap and exp resets. if you take everything
i.e. christmas and multiple shop resets (or even: christmas, shop resets, exp resets from wp shop and obligatory optimizing like perfect balance and jester max combo burst + voting before each exp reset)
into account, a mp3 actually COULD have surpassed the mp5 exp cap just.... nobody did.
13.
Not as common since the Experience cap was institued
the exp cap was in place ever since i started playing. it actually got increased (IIRC: 280k to 380k exp at mp3 and 2.2mill to 4.2 mill mp4). true, there was a way to decrease your personal exp at lower mp levels once, but thats not what i meant. see below.
and my mp3 acc had 1,5 mil of CREAT xp beat that
actually, i can i think the highest you could get at mp3 with 'normal means' is ~4 mill creature exp.
36 slots + lucky christmas + jester burst(tm)
i don't have this much myself, but someone could. with jesters help i think i can exceed the 2 mill mark though. now i'm just waiting for dst/ no one to top it all [edit: added spoiler tag]
14. so this is pips 'confessions' spin-off? ok, some 'achievements' with experimental accounts: mp3 with over a million exp (quite common) finished storymode completely without principles (rather rare, i guess) also: placed in HC with just the heads i got over time
15.
i am 100% balanced and i seem to be getting its benefits
naturally. as long as you are balanced, you get the + 100% bonus, independent from being in an ally or not. this bonus is decreasing as you diverge from perfect balance. the point about perpetual balance is that it stays at 100%, even if you get victorious or lost fights. (at least thats how it used to work, back when i was in the ally)
16. aside from the fact that you'd rather create a mechanical companion than getting to know one of the many interesting living or not-quite-living inhabitants of the realm ( ), i belive the creature research section to be the wrong place to post in. new players stories, or a similiar rp section might be more appropriate if you don't actually want to create a usable in-game creature.
17. i belive the situation to originally be a missunderstanding between grido and yrth regarding gridos reason not to PTO the sentinels, which maybe could have been cleared between them internally. but since it has been taken for rp value, and therefor fact value in the realm, it has to be dealt with at this level. let me get this straight, as the infos i/we have about this are rather limited: V: grido deviced a plan to undermine and take over the sentinels and told yrth of it. after thinking it through though, he adviced against executing the plan, because such tactics would shed a bad light on golemus, independant of the outcome. however, because the sake of golemus reputation was not the ONLY reason for grido to advice against the plan, but it ALSO caused a moral dilemma to betray a friend beyond golemus, he was cast out? would it have been fine if he hadn't cared for friendship, but only for the good name of the land he serves? while it IS the kings prerogative to listen to, or not listen to his advisors, even second-in-commands or co-rulers, it does seem questionable to exile a commited and loyal advisor because he didn't execute a plan he saw as conflicting with the best interests of golemus AND his personal beliefs. if an advisor has to fear the reaction of the king, his advise will become useless. [note: this, as well as my earlier advice against taking extreme meassures, were not spoken in my capacity as lieutenant general of the MRs, simply as V.]
18. V: some thoughts: 1. about all this killing wodin would kill the shades/peace/sentinels, etc... what you are speculating about is a thing of the past. do you really deny that the pillar of light that was wodin already disappeared? if this has weakened the shades or not is for you to observe. true, the puppet 'wodin' still remains, but are you seriously trying to say that it was his physical component and not the true soul of wodin, which is gone, that created the unbalance that strenghtened the shades? although my questions are rhetorical, i obviously do not have the answer to them. who of you can say they know 'for sure'? 2. wodin under the controll of the shades? ok, so the sentinels controll the puppet wodin now, and already learned how to pull some strings (yeah, you get the referrence). so, we agree that indeed the sentinels controll wodin, not the shades. i remember people stressing the point that the sentinels and the shades are seperate entities. and as we have seen from the attack of the summoned army against jester, current leader of the sentinels, they are indeed different to such a degree that it cannot yet be claimed to really understand the other. so again, my question. if you disregrad all the above and still assume the shades had controll over wodin, and that this would indeed weaken them to a severe degree, i ask you, why keep the controll? are the shades, them of all, slaves to their possession (and how else should i describe owning a puppet?) the following applies to both the controll of wodin and of the white: "you only own what you can take and hold. you only own that which you can give away. whatever you cannot give away owns you."
19. principles used to be defining aspects of your character. read the description of the principles and think about them, which would define your character best.# also, the principles you need to cast inner magic spells are not set in stone, there are hints and suggestions in the spell documents, but finally it also depends on your personal approach to them. a prominent example would be braitons drachorn quest, in which an inner magic spell (specifics would be spoilers) has to be cast which can be powered by different principles depending on your interpretation. and yeah, they are also used to power tokens now, so there are in fact more and less 'useful' principles, at least until the final tweaking/changes.
20. we have discussed your idea in detail, you have my support. [edit: verbosity]
21. generall thought: i do see a problem with such rather short ultimatums. while i sorta understand it from an RP point of view, it's still practically problematic. we are from all around the globe, anything less than a day is hardly doable just because of living in different timezones or having a different work/sleep rythm. in the case at hand, making an official announcement of what was planned to do (including a reasonable ultimatum and place) and opening necrovion so all involved had a chance to actually be there might have been a good idea. i think it also creates the aura of importance that suits such an event, giving poeple the chance to think about it and prepare. now, i'm not generally against fast-paced events, but i feel it should have been made sure peace had a chance to react (internally. if she deceided peace would not appear on the scene for rp reasons, letting yrth do his part, thats fine, but not giving her the chance to isn't right).
22.
NOTE to Necrovain, If the GG allaince is not handed back by 22:00 server time. I will Destroy Khalazdad's soul You have been warned
V: yrth, i know and acknowledge the dilemma between raja dharma and kshatriya dharma, but i can asure you that such a threat will only harm your cause. while the act you threatten with is meaningless itself and only bears witness to ignorance of the meaning of concepts like 'soul' or 'immortality', the grief it would cause for his familiy still is reason enough for anyone who esteemed the late greymantle or who is a friend of his family, to raise the blade against you. this includes myself, for multiple reasons. forgive my straightforwardness, but a king who just lost his army should not force his potential allies to turn on him for such a dishonorable deed.
23. Happy B'day Dst Don't party too hard
24. when i first read jesters statement i was quite excited. while i wasn't sure if it was just a clever ruse to study the atmosphere in the realm or an honest try to bring back some of the lost spirit of wartime (not a war between factions, but a general 'state of war'), it was promising to tear people out of their comfortable ways (habit is an enemy of inspiration). when i read the declaration, i was hoping for a kind of "letos sacrifice", a reign of omnipotent danger that would recreate the time of new departures, an atmosphere where one would be encouraged, and if need be forced, to evolve and to adapt to a changing environment. while this oppinion may be a little demian-esque, i think it fits the realm. now to be honest, i'm a little disappointet that this promising opening appears to get ended so soon (with a single, scheduled, invitation-only battle). even if this battle would/will be of epic proportions, it is just one battle to accomplish an end, not the cradle of legends it could have been. [but than, this is just the rambling of a warrior who laid down his own sword some time ago...] -------------------- criticism aside, i'm expectant to see what becomes of this.
