and here are the lyrics:
Twas the night before Murmas, when all through the pub
Not a critter was Murring, not even Santa
The stocking were hung on the bar with care,
In hopes that Mr. Murry would soon be there.
The Tennants were lying all snug in their chairs,
While visions of Rein-Drachs flowed through their heads.
And Orv. in his hat, and I in my helm,
Had just settled in the pantry for a quick shut down.
When out on the street arose such a clatter,
I sprung from my seat to find from my ladder.
Away to the window I climbed like a flash,
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.
The Sun on the heart of new-fallen rain,
Gave the likeness of mid-night to the streets above.
When, what to my astounding eyes should appear,
But a giant spaceship, and eight tiny reindrachs.
With an unseable driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be Mr. Murry!
More rapid than birdies his coursers they cam,
And the whistled and shouted and called them by name!
"Now Bob! Now Steve! Now Aky and Renny!
On, RJ! On Knatty! On Chewy and Rendril!
To the top of the window! To the top of the wall!
Now fly away! Fly away! Fly away all!"
As dry leaves that, before the wild hurricanes fly,
When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky.
So up to the house-top the coursers they flew,
With the ship full of Toys, and Mr. Murry too!
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my head, and was turning around,
Through the door Mr. Murry came in with a bound!
He was dressed all in fur, from his head to his foot,
And his clothes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.
A bundle of Toys he had flung on his back,
And he looked like a peddler, just opening his pack.
His eyes-how they tinkled! his dimples how merry!
His cheeks were like rain, his nose like a can!
His drall little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
And the beard of his chin was as white as the sun.
The stump of a pipe he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath!
He had a small head and a giant round belly,
That shook when he laughed, like a bowlful of jelly!
He was chubby and plump, a right smelly old Man!
And I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his leg,
Soon gave me to know I had nothing to dread. (oh how i hope that will still be true!)
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his finger aside of his nose,
And giving a nod, out the window he flows!
He sprang to his ship, to his team gave a whistle,
And away they all flew like the dawn of a chissle!
But I heard him exclaim, 'ere he drove out of sight,
"Happy Murmas to all, and to all a good-night!"
