Integrating existing tags

Featured Replies

  • Root Admin

There are 280 unique tags right now, some are really unique, some are unusable, and some are common. I want to do some cleanup and organize these first, before creating new ones.

I want to focus more on the tags that are used many times, so lets start with these. Please comment what you consider, and i shall update the list accordingly.

Any tag that has more than ~20 people holding it, including alliance related tags, should have a set of rules on how you could obtain it from a tag dispatcher, and it would be good to discuss this with the people currently holding that tag, to try to implement the way they consider it should be dispatched. Tags that don't get integrated in a tag dispatcher now, will be less likely to have any other later functionality.

I left some tags out, that are really personal and can not create any confusion, and i included some automated tags, or single use tags (including mine), that could have a bigger mechanism behind.

I will write under the tag name, the number of accounts that currently own it, and in brackets, my comments.

List follows next

Woodcutter's Apprentice (experimental new tag)
26

Shade (?)
21

Resource Merchant (experimental new tag)

Bringers of Light (?)

Death Guard (this should be interesting, assigne current dg tools to this tag, and assign the tag to whoever dies enough times?)
17

Guardian of Tools (??)
10

Silvan Watch (??)
9

Automaton (??)
8

Veteran (decide a number of active days to consider someone a veteran, or other factors. Veterans could get additional access)
7

Embers of Kelle'tha (??)
6

Sky Scouter (needs access to sky related trackers and tools and obtained for setting x scene sky view settings)
6

Quest Rangers (too generic)
4

Pirate (..)
3

Fighter (way too general!)
3

Heat Contriver (first functional tag of the tagdispatcher, gg tools related)

Live Support (maybe a tag that can be obtained at will and grants access to gateway island tools for helping noobs, then later levels that are based on merit)

Guardian of Bob (water the tree and have an insane location wait time ?)

Knators Mercenary Guard  (travel easier between gg and lr, boat)

Junior Loreroot Librarian (sounds to me like a good role for initial role in LR, but i want to hear an opinion from someone in LR)

Judge (judges are high level administrative levels with decision power, but they can be given to anyone that deserves and wants such a role. I imagine it as a last branch where you can pick between judge and king, with a ultra high loyalty check)

Co Leader of the Treasure Keepers (what is this co leader? two people with same leader tag makes more sense i think)

Golemus Golemicarum Rebel (rebel tag is given automaticall? in any case it should unlock specific tools and info about this should be somehow be made available to them)

Avatar Manager (this is administrative function, but i want to creatge a path to it somehow, as part of releasing more admin tools automatically for whoever deserves them)

Avatars (is this different from the above? or from MD Artworks? lets clear this)

Water Dowser's Leader (guilds should have an alternate way in, that will allow people that actually deserver the role, compete with the people that can obtain it through political moves)

Garden Keeper (gardening activities are now more interesting than ever)

Gardener of MDA Garden (same as above? one single gardener role should remain)

Advanced Empty Aramor (this is a bot, i left it on this list, maybe someone has a creative ideea about how this tag could become publicly accessible and what it should do)

Glass Expert (could be generalized for different resources, but maybe its too much and should be grouped into a general Resource Expert tag)

High Lord Inquisitor (need to recheck all religious activities and reglement them :P )

High Savelite Priest (same as above)

Item Enchanter (new experimental tag)

Highly Esteemed Treasurer of Marind Bell (treasurer, like guild leader roles, should have an alternate way in, based on achievements of some sort)

Master Assassin (match with the killing history and capability?)

Warden (would be awesome to talk to the owner of this tag, but probably impossible, so i want a suggestion on how one could become prison warden)

MD Artist (maybe if the artist medal is owned?)

(All leadership roles have a special status. There will be a path to unlock candidacy first of all. This path needs to prove loyalty to the land, and some advanced ability to use game mechanics. We do not have presidents here, we have kings, queens, dictators.. you get my point i hope. After nameing a leader, regardless how, the actual king tag, will be responsible of access to super powerful tools. Add here any i missed)

MDA Land Leader

Loreroot Consul

Queen of Loreroot

Demon of the East

Demon of the Labyrinth

King of Golemus Golemicarum

King of Marind Bell

The bad news is that because not many care to get involved apparently, i need to lockdown _ALL_ tags and start unlocking only those that we get to discuss about here.

The good news is that because there are not so many people in the realm, i accept anyone and any number of people getting involved on this, so if you have a pertinent opinion, talk to me.

Marind Bell's "group tag". Used for teleporting all MB tag wears to a specific location via an item.

This is the same as Bringer of Light, but for NC. It has nothing to do with the Death guard who patrol necro. I would argue not to assigning the DG tooling to these people.

Its the LR tag, same as Bringers of Light and Death Guard. Whatever is given to these should be done "together. I suggest that you make this a tag that can be gained with X land loyalty.

GG tag, same as Bringers of light, Silvan watch, Death Guard. I suggest you get the tag based on land loyalty.

Given to those who mapped out the sky visibility.

Yes you can rebel against the land. Its mostly unused now.

My suggestions (plans if no one comments) for the project

First, clean up the current "old and unused" tags

Second, Implement some of the "simpler" tags into the system, proposals below.

Third, start implementing the important tags into current "tag systems". My first suggestion is the Citizen tags (Death Guard, Silvan Watch, Bringer of the Light, Embers of Kelltha). Details to follow

  • Root Admin

Part 2: Simpler tags

My first suggestion for simpler tags is Vetern.

image.png

Here I am suggesting to make it work based on tags. This will then give the medals a little more meaning because those who have gained the medals can then "apply" for the tags and use them if they want. Veteran is an old tag we used to use and giving it to more people makes sense.

IMO using the medals is a perfect way because then its not purely based on days.

  • Root Admin

Part 3: Citizen Tags

This is my proposal based on my own views, and as the King of Marind Bell too. This ties in a few plans Mur and I have, but I have not finalised these ideas.

image.png

This is something Mur and I discussed. A simple progression based on on land loyalty. Essentially you become loyal to the land and then can "apply" to join once you have the second tier of tag. Absolute values and other things here are not determined.

However we feel that since joining is "free" there needs to be a potential downside. This would be that if you join a land, and the ruler removes you, half your land loyalty will be lost. So you better be sure you are joining a land you are wanted! Equally if the ruler is not keeping an eye on things, you could infiltrate their land and start doing things!

The naming of these tags are just a rough idea, we can make them better, comments are obviously welcome.

Now you will see that the last two tags require another "basic" and "advanced land tag". The idea here is that you can't "just" progress in the land without doing stuff. Therefore I bring in the second concept here, Citizen Loyalty tags:

image.png

Here the concept is simple, as you participate in the land in various ways, you rack up "points" for the land. by advancing these tags you get the ability to level up your "general" land tag, but also each tag gives you special rights.

Let me know if anyone has any opinions on these. This is my first idea, we can probably iterate on it and make it better!

"Pickle Meister" tag grew out of my original scheme of awarding "pickle points" for my quests, puzzles, and riddles.  Then Mur invented spicy pickles and gave me the first pickle jar and this tag took on more significance.  Then, I suppose slightly less as 2 more jars were made.

Now, I consider it a mark combining quest maker and prize giver, master of ceremonies, and event organizer.

There is also a sense of humor rolled into it, as I remain a jester and I mean... pickles!

Not obvious how this would fit on any chain of progression...

Personally, I see these type of tags as a "Vanity tag" which wouldn't ever fit into the chained tag scheme. But its nice to be reminded of the history again.

not really... ok its a vanity sort of tag, but any tag could be used right. "Pickle Meister" could for example allow access to a shared pickles jar, and could be obtained by someone having enough points. Remember the tags can be placed under same parent, so multiple similar powerup item producing tags/tools could be placed under same parent, and someone could only pick one of them.

There are a load of tags that are unused/dead that we can clean up. Since I know the background of them I will do that so we have a better view of what we need to actually integrate.

If I may share my oppinion, I dont think unique tags are (only) vanity. I think they are also a big part of MD history and history of a particular MD character. I think unique tags make MD unique, just like unique avatars do. For example if I see Pickle Meister, I have to think of my first days in MD and how I was standing in front of "unbreachable" MD archives gate, breaking my head of how to get in, until, out of the blue my saviour appeared in a form of an Almighty Pickle...

On the other hand I love the idea of making tags functional. Also the idea of being able to earn a tag for making an effort is very sound in my opinion.

so what to do with unique tags?

I think possible solution would be to ask every owner of such a tag (if they want to keep it) write a story for MD Archives explaining the history behind this tag OR (even better imo) to design a permanent quest that is related to tags history. (Mechanically, I picture it as pressing on a tag would open a quest document with some instructions or give a link to archives document).  If tag owner has no ressources for rewarding, TK could always think of something. This way unique tags function could be to connect people and make them get to know each other (and MD history) better.

Now, as for giving away unique tags...I think this option could be left to kings/queens for some special occasions.

  • Root Admin

Ah I think my use of the word vanity has been misunderstood.

I am in no way implying or suggesting that those unique and special tags are just for the vane. What I was more referring to is that I believe that “unique” tags should sit outside the mechanical system entirely. They are special and not related to progression in a mechanical system.

Personally I would divide all tags into vanity/unique/personal (whatever you want to call them) and mechanical/generic which are given by tag dispatchers.

I don’t think you can make all tags be given by the system and I think that’s fine. Mur may disagree however.

Stumbled upon this one.

I have like 7 possible tags and I would like to keep at least 1 of them (not sure why, maybe for sentimental value :D).

Watching you (3510 Points).

There are 2 more that I think are unique as they were customized for me:

Renegade Bug Researcher

Master Bug Researcher

Since in the last days of me playing those did not represent me anymore, I think they can be locked (if possible I would still like to keep them but not be allowed to use them, just for "historical" purpose)

Yeah see these tags again I would keep them (for everyone) as I think those are part of their story. I would consider them "prestigate/vanity/history" tags and not an automatic/generic one.

we can already equip 2 tags now

how about we can carry 1 mechanical and 1 personal tag?

this ofc could meddle with the above idea that you need a citizen and landbased tag to unlock stuff. (unless you dont need to wear both at the same time)
i'd say you can switch inbetween and each has their up and downsides but ofc then there has to be a cooldown of sorts (or cost)

I don't want a distinction between 'mechanical' and personal tags, because many times its too hard to make a difference, and also because many times, what was initially made as a "personal coding session" for a single person, became a widely used thing.

Also, maybe i am wring, but you can carry two tags, but just one is considered the active/main one , and thats the one that unlocks things. It would OK to have both active tags unlock what each tag unlocks but it might be a lot more complicated to do than it might look, i have to look into that at some point... for now, just one tag is 'in action'. the secondary is just for show.

Yeah that was kinda what I was thinking in terms of having a "personal" tag which confers nothing, but then mechanical tags you actually use.

I'm happy with either, I can just see that a lot of people would like their "personal" tag but also then have the ability to "actually use" real tags that confer actual bonuses.

I was hoping to merge these two, from one direction only (right join :P) .. i want ideally all tags to be somehow functional, even if just a bit, including personal, so that "personal", in the future, will actually mean just "so rare that only i could get it"

The "problem" is that personally "personal" tags mean a lot to people, and want them displayed as they are a part of your history.

But then you end up wanting to "play" the game and use tags that give you stuff, so you will end up with people "Hiding" their personal tags to use the actual useful ones.

I would personally force only one "real" tag and then the second tag would be your person one with a personal description. If you don't have a personal tag then the description is your mechanical tag.

  • 4 months later...

I would have to say, I have 3 tags. One I've nearly never used ( silvian watch).

But I have 2 personalized tags I worked hard for and one of them I do not wish to loose.

Voice of the dead tag. I worked hard for it and learned many things and did many things with being dead that others couldn't and you your self mur granted it to me for doing so.

However if I need to loose my ambassador of gateway island tag I understand, however that tag was also earned and marks me as one of the first on gateway island. Was a great day in MD history.

But I was reading up on this and chew made a lot of very good points. Biggest is I would say clean up all unused tags and from inactive players (players meaning who haven't been on in forget)

A lot of these tags can be implemented to be earned in doing simple things. It's also very late here so please excuse me. I'm tired.

The ambassador of gateway island tag was also supposed to be part of the gateway keepers guild but unfortunately with the killings from dst the guild was short lived and the tag became useless and tossed to the side.

But originally when we were making gateway you talked about making the gateway keepers guild have special tags that allowed them to do certain things that was specific to the tag.

You made me ambassador because gateway island is not meant to have a king but still needs a form of leadership to help guide new players in the right direction. The guild also granted it's members the ability to be mp6 to help new players fight when no one was around to fight. So this is a small example of how tags are used and can be used.

Some tags give special abilities maybe but are limited?
