Akasha Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 Lately i saw a lot of spam in all topics. From now on i will delete the spam, count down the numbers of post counts you have, or depends on your warnings...reset your count posts. First to go : Death Bell got his first reset to 0 posts today because of repeated spam . Good luck to the rest ps: rants in this topic will be counted as spam also Shadowseeker, Mallos, Watcher and 4 others 4 3
Death Bell Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 (edited) at last my aim of been the first at something has been achieved lol (dam i was so close to getting 666 posts ) but i am so happy i got a rusty haha EDIT: could you also reset my rep points to zero? Akasha Posted November 18, 2009 Author Report Posted November 18, 2009 Well, DB got another warn and a moderator preview posts. So.. who is next? Asterdai, death ray, Watcher and 3 others 3 3
Burns Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 once again, i feel tempted to put my toes on the line XD postive aspects: YAY, people will finally start thinking before posting crap YAY, less stupid spam to read for me =) YAY, people will hopefully try to stay ontopic, sometimes at least... negative aspects: Mod preview? that's like... you know, i think even the romanian mafia and tomato cultists have heard of free speech and such... I think/hope that mods will leave posts with content and stuff, but that's certainly looking a bit like Big Brother... Though i admit, he had it coming for a pretty long time LOL Are there certain warning levels and rules one should know about now? Or are they secret? Or are things being decided out of peoples mood? :/ death ray, Esmaralda, Death Bell and 1 other 3 1
Akasha Posted November 18, 2009 Author Report Posted November 18, 2009 Moderator preview..well he made 7 posts in 5 minutes.. so yeah, a moderator will approve or disapprove his posts. Unfortunately he can't understand when to stop , and i personally had enough of the spam from the forum, that's why i started to take actions. Think that more the half of his posts are spam...and look at his warning and such..if he can't stop, we must stop him..i personally want to read a topic without posts wich are put in there just to increase the post counts. The free of speech ...well he was free to post *cough* spam 658 posts ..so , i started to cook the spammers from this forums. Muratus del Mur, Watcher, death ray and 1 other 2 2
Fenrir Greycloth Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 Was this course of action approved by the other admins/ mods before hand? Death Bell, death ray, Kyphis the Bard and 1 other 2 2
Akasha Posted November 18, 2009 Author Report Posted November 18, 2009 I know you are scared of getting a reset , you would like it now, or later after few more posts? Please look at your warnings...from today they start to mean something to a mod/admin and you could actually get a bad thing from them. death ray, Kyphis the Bard, Watcher and 1 other 2 2
Fenrir Greycloth Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 (edited) Was my previous post off topic? Or was it deviant from the message of the original post? If so, I would like to know what was wrong with it. I honestly don't care about my post count. They mean nothing. We all post offtopic, but is it actually spam? No. Posting off topic is wrong, yes. But unless it is a constant attempt to disrupt the forum what is the point of punishing others for it? –noun 2. (lowercase) a disruptive, esp. commercial message posted on a computer network or sent as e-mail. Edit: My point here is that just because one goes off topic, it doesn't mean it is bad. When you have a conversation with someone do you stay on topic all the time? No. Well, this forum is just like the game chat. We talk about a subject, and sometimes it goes off topic. Now when someone comes in and starts trying to disrupt things by swearing constantly or by talking in caps, it is justifiable to tell them to shut up and silence them if they don't listen. Well, that is an appropriate reaction here as well. Punish those who are actually posting useless crap/ off topic posts. Not those who go off topic occasionally, because Akasha, you would get punished as well. You go off topic as much as everyone else. Except for certain people of course. Edit 2: I forgot to add that most posts made by anyone are off topic according to you. Most people post their reply to the original topic and then reply to others. And then those people reply to the other people's replies. That isn't wrong either Edited November 18, 2009 by Fenrir Greycloth Death Bell, Akasha, Kyphis the Bard and 1 other 3 1
Grido Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 Spam on the forum isnt just things that are offtopic, but also those posts which have no usefull content, posts for instance which just have "LOL " are spam. Kyphis the Bard, Akasha and death ray 2 1
Fenrir Greycloth Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 Unless that is what the topic is called for. Like the captcha topic. Kyphis the Bard, Akasha, Death Bell and 1 other 1 3
Observer Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 That topic calls for images. You can comment on other people images but just "LOL " seems like a rather empty reply. A bit more text about why it is funny might help, some more humour might as well. There isn't really any point for someone else in reading you found it funny... In general: Don't post unargumented statements and try to stay on topic. (that's my view on things anyway) ~Obs Akasha, Watcher and Kyphis the Bard 2 1
Akasha Posted November 18, 2009 Author Report Posted November 18, 2009 The forum is not a 'game chat'..well , only the spammers would say it is
We talk about a subject, and sometimes it goes off topic.
Wrong! spam means offtopic, that's why there are mods and admins to scream at you to stay ON topic.
Punish those who are actually posting useless crap/ off topic posts. Not those who go off topic occasionally, because Akasha, you would get punished as well
That is exactly what i am doing now..punishing those that get offtopic and you are one of them..considering your warning status you will get the 'preview by mods' thingy. Occasionally is something..but when you spam constantly and you can't stop..we must stop it.
I forgot to add that most posts made by anyone are off topic according to you.
Yes, most of DB's posts are offtopic. death ray, Death Bell, Watcher and 3 others 2 4
Observer Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 (edited) Well... "excessive spam" is not only noticeable by admins/mods. But by any regular user. Now, I doubt there's any regular user out there who does not consider most of DR's posts spam (no offence). Moderators and Admins check on each other, and as long as these things are done publicly we check on them. Mur probably has the final say in things, if you're afraid of his bias you might as well leave MD right away. ~Obs EDIT: It seems Malaikat Maut removed his post (or the censorship has started o.O) either way it was him stating that this new system might make bias easier. Fenrir Greycloth Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 Db has been ig for about three months. I've been playing for over a year now. And he has more posts than me. He spans, not me. He'll, dst spans more than I do. I bet I can go throughher posts for five minutes and fin more off topic posts. My posts are always either responding to the topic or a post made by others. The occasional one is off topic, but it still relates to the discussion!!! No, your understanding of what spam is, is wrong. Spam is unsolicited mail. In other words, mail that Isnt relevant. My warnings are all for different reasons made by a single person who does not like me. Warnings are completely biased. Dst does not like me so she finds every excuse to punish me for it. You are going to far in your outburst here. You may just be angry at something and taking it out on the rest of us, but that doesn't mean It is right for you to punish people for going off topic occasionally. I rarely go off topic compared to people like db. The reason why you are targeting me is because you do not like what I have to say. Shadowseeker, Death Bell, Kyphis the Bard and 1 other 2 2
Akasha Posted November 18, 2009 Author Report Posted November 18, 2009 your warnings are from different mods and admin. I am not targeting you, you put yourself in the target by screaming out loud that we dont understand spam, and we have a wrong theory and your's is good : meaning offtopics are ok, excuse me, i am the admin and you are the user; if the mods warned you i belive them and the print screens they put in there, not you the off-topic adept. If you think you would have a problem with abstain yourself form posting spam, you should make something, but stop this non-sens and rantings about it. [u]Get over it ! (Zl-eye-f)-nea Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 Why is this topic suddenly all about Fenrir? It seems very simple. Mods are fed up with spam, Death Bell is an example of what will now be done with people who are blatantly spamming. Simple no? It was also stated that if you lose your tongue on this topic your posts here will also be counted as spam, which i think is kinda what you've done here Fenrir. Its pretty clean cut, just let the Mods do their job for once without the fight the system sign would you. Z Darigan, Watcher and Kyphis the Bard 2 1
Grido Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009
No, your understanding of what spam is, is wrong. Spam is unsolicited mail. In other words, mail that Isnt relevant.
No...that's the definition of spam MAIL. When the definition you use specifies "unsolicited mail" it doesnt cross your mind that it might not be the correct use when applied to a forum? Forum Spam has two meanings; The first being all those viagra ads etc. The second being useless or pointless replies to threads. Watcher, Fenrir Greycloth, Chewett and 1 other 3 1
Death Bell Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 yes i have been here for almost a year. and i didn't know posting alot meant spam. like you say spam means off topic but my warning was given because i made 7 posts in 5 minutes.. i am really sure all of those seven posts were on topic for i was very careful not to say anything stupid or unrelated due to chewett telling me to be careful. so i am sure all those 7 posts were on topic Akasha, Kyphis the Bard and Ivorak 3
Malaikat Maut Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 (edited)
EDIT: It seems Malaikat Maut removed his post (or the censorship has started o.O) either way it was him stating that this new system might make bias easier.
Well, I edited that out of my post seconds after submitting it, but now it appears the entire thing was removed and I have a -1 in my profile. I'm not going to cry about it, although I thought it was made in good taste and also applied to the topic. In addition, I was attempting to strengthen Akasha's point... There are many forums that have a "No Spam" policy, and I understand the need for them and support them here fully. However, perhaps it would be beneficial to post clear and concise rules to possibly deter or guide well-meaning posters such as myself? Fenrir Greycloth Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 Akasha, and Z, I have been posting with a calm tongue. I am not ranting, I am argueing that targeting offtopic nonesense, and targeting spammers is different. (Apparently that is another difference you don't recognize O.o) Target the useless posts. Warn them. Do what ever. But all I am trying to explain to you is that this forum will change, drastically. I have seen other forum mods crack down on "spam" and they ruined the atmosphere which was created by the light and fun posts people make. If all we can do now is serious posting, then what is the point of creating a community forum? Should we change the link to the forum on the front page to "Serious Forum"? All I am trying to convince you of is that this forum will be ruined if you do this. If you start warning everyone for posting useless topics and posts. We are all guilty of it. Now, if you want to get rid of useless posts, get rid of them. But don't start "admin reviewing" everyone's posts because of it. There was once a socialist party that tried forcing the people from speaking out, you know what happened to them? They were all executed and imprisoned for War Crimes Against Humanity. But they still did the irreversible damage. Death Bell, Watcher, Kyphis the Bard and 2 others 3 2
Peace Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 You do understand that there are off-topic threads for that reason right? For people to go off-topic on a subjest and also spam as much as they want to, because this is the purpose of them. When someone is trying to have a serious conversation about serious game-related situations and once just drops in to leave a comment in one sentence that has no value at all and interupts the conversation then That I mark it as spamming. Look at threads like the War topics, or alliance matters topics such as the Caretakers issue which is more recent. I have seen posts in there with no real purpose, with no serious arguments and yes those I consider them as spam. I give my full support to all Moderators and Admins of this forum because they are trying to have a clean forum which makes sence when reading the topics and people (who I will not mentioon their names, for they know who they are) just come in, leave a comment just to say something inrelavent or without value or just get one more counted topic. As far as I am concerned, all my posts have a purpose in each thread I put them. I am staying in character even in the forums, maybe I am one of the few who do it, but this is who I am. I know when to speak off-topic somewhere and when I need to speak in character. This is also why we have seperated threads, don't we. I only wish more people would do it. P.S.: I do miss the old forum, the one I was reading a year ago. People would stay on topic, making reading and understanding easier. P.S.2: End of ranting... for now. Watcher, Akasha and Kyphis the Bard 2 1
Fenrir Greycloth Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 The thing I am argueing against is not the one liners with no purpose(the actual spam) but punishing people for 7 posts in 5 minutes(just went back and found those posts, all on topic, but didn't contribute much, but it was not spam), is beyond the call of duty for Mods. A clean forum is nice. But don't ban/warn every one for ridiculous things such as this. Kyphis the Bard, Death Bell, Akasha and 1 other 2 2
Peace Posted November 18, 2009 Report Posted November 18, 2009 If I had the time I would quote all inrelavant posts by many in certain threads. And trust me they are a lot. Akasha and Watcher 1 1
