  1. Congratulations Chewett! Wishing you and yours the best, I hope the day is perfect!
  2. Thank you for the reward, and congratulations Aia and Nimrodel! I'll take whatever prize Nimrodel doesn't.
  3. Wiiya, as a resource, has always been described as representing Identity. This is shown in a few different ways: The resource is eponymous, it is a symbol of someone who used to frequent here, a recognition and remembrance of who they were and their role, even if the specific memories fade. The rituals surrounding the gathering of Wiiya have always been accompanied with discussions, stories and the creation of memories. Many say that we are the result of our memories and our past, perhaps this is more true in MD. The use of Wiiya is about granting or shifting identities, specifically of creatures. The transformation and growth through the resource is not just for creatures though, the sharing of our thoughts transforms us. Awiiya made a powerful statement about how the realm seemed to have disregarded the importance of a lot of things, and how it felt like people could no longer make that same impact, but how he himself had managed to become a landmark in MD. I can't say how true this is, but it's hard to disagree with part of that sentiment. Awiiya, despite their absence, is still here with us in many ways, from the scenes that honour him up and the tools that memorialise him. Throughout this month, people will be discussing a resource inspired by someone that lived within these realms, new ways of sparking life into it, and perhaps talking about all the old legends and legacies that people might have forgotten about. It would be a sort of poetic justice for such a resource so deeply rooted in the creation of legend to allow others to set out on creating their own. It already is, in some ways. We see how Rophs has based his current role on the seedwalks that take place, invigorating life within MD, even if there is some criticism coming from some about the absences in this role. There was a time, years ago, when events like this were not important to the people who. in a way, live here. Now, even with the community still going strong in some ways, we are not as connected as we used to be. It's easy to mistake MD for something dead when walking around, in a way that wasn't possible in the times when I frequented it more. What brought me back to MD and made me linger for this long rather than turning my back once more was finding the people here, old-new people folk. The birthday event was powerful in a way that I didn't expect. It brought back so much, and made me realise all over again that MD, despite where I live physically, despite my flag being the one for Portugal, I know that MD will always, always be my home, a significant part of my identity and who I became. It's not something I discuss with people I know out of the realms, but it's something that I feel, and something that I think others might feel when they consider who they are to some extent. So, one thing I can say for certain is that Wiiya is a symbol of identity, the sharing of identity and a way of granting identity. Any purpose that it is given to the resource and the gathering of the resource should always be closely related to identity. Perhaps nothing so shallow as the creation and transformation of creatures, but instead something far deeper, like the creation of ourselves and who we are in the realms, a way of keeping our most important stories alive so that others can see that this is a place in which people lived, and still do live. Whatever changes come, I beg that whoever decides what these changes are, that they make them something which transforms how we see MD and ourselves within it, as well as the experience of newcomers and old visitors.
  4. What keeps you coming back to MagicDuel? The nostalgic part of me that wants to curl around old memories as if they were an old, leather-bound book in a small but warm study. What is your favourite thing to do in MagicDuel? Talking and sharing ideas about business within the world(s) with my friends. What do you do most often in MagicDuel? Gather and idle! What do you wish there was more of in MagicDuel? More people for sure, maybe more things to idly do, even if it's a hollow sense of progress. What do you wish there was less of in MagicDuel? True, no-activity idleness and the mostly empty state the realms were in a short while back.
  5. Maybe! It was a great event either way and a good way to finish the last night of the celebrations.
  6. I plan on throwing something here, in honour of the art, after some talking. The Arrival Slightly rushed, I wanted to finish this before going to sleep >.<!!!
  7. I feel like even if it's not a bug, it must be unintended.
  8. When you click on some text and scroll across the page, this happens. It's not particularly game-breaking but I thought it should be reported nonetheless in case it's fixable.
  9. Loving the MD Birthday Festival!!!

  10. I get where you're coming from, but for a new player to see stuff like that isn't encouraging, especially when this is the most easily obtained and reliable information you'll probably ever get when it comes to MD. It's also some of the earliest. The game intro has stuff like: Out in the world, Finaly! Obviously, we stuck around and probably never took a second look back or ever remarked on this stuff (It's been there since I started here, and I don't ever recall ever hearing about any mistakes at all) but I don't think that's an excuse to not fix it. Some of the worst offenders are research and connections papers, which are painful enough to read without having to disregard the odd error. I'm obviously not posting those here for obvious reasons.
  11. This is the current status of the game development. This status usually changes daily or every few days. This status is not related to your own game progress or profile but is the same for all players in the game. Vacation Not working or playing. Currently away. I'll be back with fresh forces Hibernating Observing the game, no important changes in progress. During this stage please do not contact me for anything. This is usually happening when advertising is running very intensively. Learning Performing small fixes, and maintenance, talking to players to see what needs to be done, searching for new ideas. Feel free to pm me about anything. This stage usually triggers a heavy development session afterwards. Evolving Working on something, be it game feature or just bug fixes/ing. Constantly adding new things. This is the most common stage and a sign that the game development is progressing and that the game is growing not only in players but also in features. Experimenting Doing experiments on players, challenges, data mining. During this status updates are not made public. This is one of the most interesting parts for me and those participating in such experiments. Madness Making major gameplay changes, adding new features, sections and mdshop items. Expanding game borders. During such a stage, major game updates are to be announced. Cruise mode Similar to madness but not public. Working at high speed but without any communication with players or other team members. During this stage you might see me online and I might sound very distant, sometimes rude, nothing personal, I will just be very focused on the work. Unlike the madness stage, after this working stage there is no rule that there will be announcements about what work was done. Emergency Maintenance work in progress, game might become unstable or temporarily stopped due to server work or important engine changes. This happens when there is an incoming server attack, we are moving hosting, there are major errors in the game engine we discovered and are fixing, or other critical situations that require the game to be temporarily stopped. Development Focus When the note says 'development focus' it means that most work that is currently being done is targeted at specific areas of the game. This stage can last a long time. Bugfix Madness During this stage I won't answer pms unless related to the bug I am working on. Usually this is an emergency stage or part of a larger session of overall improvements. Correction above. Pasting the original feels redundant, I'll just mark what I've changed. This was mostly capital letters with the odd grammatical slip up or strange expression. Nothing major, but it just makes the game look more polished if we are all prim and proper about how we write in guides.
  12. That'd be helpful. I have my style guides still around somewhere.
  13. Decided to just throw this up. It's not vital to anything but there is some other stuff I plan on sending to Chewett privately. I didn't write this intending to be snobby or to criticise, and it's the curse of those correcting grammar to screw things up. Please note that I was educated in British English and learnt from British English style models, yet am trying to conform to an American English style. Pinch of salt, etc. [More Info] Tab Above Chat: Online UsersPlayers that were online in the last 60 minutes, or if they've just passed the location can be seen in grey, or will show in orange if they are at the location at that exact moment. (Correction) Players that were online in the last 60 minutes, or if they've just passed that location can be seen in grey, or will show in orange if they are in that location at that exact moment. I suppose you could use either, but this is arguably a more accurate determiner in this particular circumstance. The same goes for the preposition. You could say that you are "in" a location but it is more accurate to say that you are "at" a location. RP Reality RequirementThis is an indicator to/which remind/s you that some things are more real than others, even in a fantasy world, depending on how many observe the same "reality." How firmly you are anchored in MagicDuel's reality, or how careless you are about your role-play (RP), will probably determine your future in the realm, but for now it's just an indicator. How well you are anchored in MagicDuel's reality, or how careless you are about your role-play(RP), will probably determine your future in the realm, but for now it's just an indicator. Again, awkward determiner use, and then there's a full stop outside the parenthesised "reality," which American English style models would most likely disagree with. The adverb firmly is more accurate than well. Having Roleplay(RP) is acceptable but it's easier to read if split up. Below is a description of each Reality Requirement: - Intimate: 2 or less people. RP is unrestricted, reality is irrelevant between two people if both accept the fantasy. - Loose: 3 to 5 people. RP can go wild, but common sense is required. As long as the other few accept it, most things are fine. - Moderate: 6 to 10 people. RP is considered real only if it is based on proof or good logic. Your avatar may give you elements to support that logic as well as your inventory items, a very well established role in a clear and distinct activity, things in the current location/scene, or abilities you posses.- Strict: 11 to 30 people. Only real things, irrefutable to anyone present. These are the things you can do based on your actual abilities such as spells or special interfaces, actions supported by your inventory items, fights, and other interface supported actions. Simple logic without a real base to support it is not enough to form reality under this level. - Real Only: 31 or more people. In large groups, only what you can do in such way that is undeniable to anyone observing it, can pass as reality. What you do under this level should be stricter than the strict level and as real as it can get, so that nobody can say or think "no you couldn't possibly do that" or "you are making things up." You could write: Below is a list of Reality Requirements and what they entail. This is less pretentious? Also, there should be a colon before a list ideally. Instead of overusing colons, I decided to use As Well As to begin a list. There's also a stutter in consistency when the last listed Reality Requirement doesn't have people on it. It's obvious, and people know, but it just helps. Again, I've moved full stops to inside the quotation marks. Fantasy is not chaos, sometimes it's more real than you think. Understanding what "real" means, or should mean, is a big step forward in understanding what "fantasy" really is. Fantasy is not chaos, sometimes it's more real than you think. Just moving full stops to the inside of things. Also, the semicolon is being used here instead of a normal, full colon. Location ViscosityViscosity of a location determines the increase or drop in action point(AP) cost for moving or using clickables in that location. It is determined by how often the place is visited by yourself or others. Visited more recently, the location memory becomes more fluid and fresh, thus the AP cost is less. Viscosity builds up over time and makes long forgotten places even harder to access. It is possible that the viscosity will render certain deserted places fully off limits if nobody visits them for a long period of time, or make other locations that have a naturally high AP cost easily accessible when when more people go through them. The value and its influence is shared by everyone in the same location. This place as opposed to that place feels strange. AP only capitalises the A in a few places for some reason. The use of "This Room" feels very specific? Gosh, this is a draining and arduous way to do things! I'll consider different ways of doing things, but I'm taking a short rest for now. I hope I'm excused for posting in this thread multiple times? Chewett, expect a few PMs your way on some spoilery corrections.
  14. Sculpting Tools - Allows you to create figurines out of wood or other materials for players (Alternatively, Tiny Men or Aramors). (Could be used with Pure Gold, Iron Ingots, Crystals, Gems, Cut Diamond etc.) (Could allow for long-range spellcasting on a target, but have it be used up? Different materials could have multiple uses?) Requires materials and perhaps some heat. I second Ailith, an item that creates a jumplink would be great for when the celebration is over and the meeting casts run out. I was under the assumption that some scenes were already protected from jumping? Feathery Quill - Allows you to write on paper to create notes that you can pass around, or potentially even write on books with multiple pages as a physical item. Sun Orb - Turns the scene from Night into Day for a short time. Training Dummy - Creates an unkillable monster (Empty Aramor type thing) with a low attack reset time (or none) to train rituals on. No losses or wins can come from it. Sketching Pencil - Used with paper, allows the user to capture a player's avatar or a scene in their inventory. This can be viewed at any time. Requires heat. Incense Holder - Allows the user to burn herbs using heat, providing various effects, more random for unidentified herbs. Fungal Transposer - Converts 10 flowers into an edible mushroom which gives a small boost or restores missing vitality/AP/EP. Fungal Transposer - Converts 10 flowers into an edible mushroom which makes the user hallucinate. (Could be used for fun stuff like the Nightshade or to see things like the carnival or defeated monsters again?) Cold Mold - Coverts water into Ice, which reduces personal heat or the heat of a creature. Dueling Sword - Allows you to duel with another, rock paper scissors style. Players pick the consequences of losing out of 3 options, and the number of rounds up to ten. Both must agree to duel. Erolin Shard - Sacrifices VP and fills with heat, which can be transferred to items, but not yourself. Cleansing Brew - New tea recipe or something, cures debilitating effects. Uses minerals or crystals, water and heat. Flower Identifier - Converts the Flowers resource into a type of flower, or turns multiple into a bouquet of flowers. Treasure Hunt Shovel - Allows you to bury items and dig for them. Warm Cloak - Prevents Erolin loss. Viscosity Torch - Channelling Erolin heat reduces the room's viscosity over time. Each regeneration has an impact. Viscous Oil - Increases Viscosity in an area. Made from a mixture of herbs. Heat Pebble - Reheats cold tea for more heat. I have many more, though don't wish to take up the whole thread. Edit: A particularly evil idea came to me once I'd finished and posted this... Frying Pan - Converts baby creatures into yummy meals. Eggs become omelettes. Elemental eggs become elemental omelettes. Young Knators become Fried Knator Steak, and you can get some Grasan Rump too if you want. Requires heat, maybe some oil too. Just an idea
  15. Gosh, it's been quite a while since I've spoken to anyone here. Even the odd person I kept in touch with, I have the last messages sent... A year ago. I'm reading over stuff, thinking about the past and the people in it. It's weird to think that other people have been getting on with their own lives. I kind of imagine the people that "lived" here as not ever really ageing or changing in the least. Obviously, I watched people change in front of my eyes and just didn't really ever notice it. I wish I could hear everyone's stories since the last time I spoke to them, to see if everyone else has changed as much as I imagine they have. I'd be surprised if they hadn't to be honest. I'm don't know how things are going at the minute. I haven't asked, I don't really want to. In my mind, this is the place it always used to be back when I used to frequent it. There's honestly a special place in my heart for the people and places here, and it makes me tear up a little to type that, feeling silly as all heck as I do. I don't know whether this is a Hello, or a Goodbye, or what else it really could be. Something I can't put into words. That's a bit unlike me, these days. I like to think that I'm just a tad more articulate, flowery, expressive, whatever. I've had a lot of issues with expression in the past. Perhaps I wanted people to notice when I radically changed? I don't think they did, or they were kind enough to not point it out in a rude way. Maybe that's why I chose this sort of shapeshifter persona, despite how outright irritating that must have been back in the day. I loved to play characters and switch things up, and I think a lot of that was finding myself, as sappy as it reads to my own eyes. I guess my real point here is just in a way that I probably gave off a lot of wrong impressions. I don't mean that in a fake way. I'm not really planning on re/kindling up a bunch of friendships. I didn't know how to get across what I wanted sometimes. Fake hostility probably came out a lot as real hostility. This applies to EVERYONE I ever spoke to at any point. I can't say I've ever... Really, truly, actually despised anyone here, or even remotely disliked anyone for longer than a minute. No, not even you. It's bittersweet to read over things. Surprisingly, more sweet than bitter. I can't put my finger on it. I feel detached from who I used to be, though as a few people have alluded to in the past, I'm a different person entirely publicly and privately, normally. Maybe some of you haven't had a break (and I type that assuming this is going to be read by anyone, I'm fairly sure it isn't.) Maybe you're thinking about what a random little thing this is. I sure am! I've been gone for years though, I think, and think I needed to say something, though I know I've said things along these lines before, but perhaps not as heartfelt as it is now, with all the experience and knowledge I've gotten under my belt since those times. Anti-climax. Apologies. Sorry for being an annoying little s- sugarcube. I appreciate beyond what I can express in words all the things that you did for me though, intentionally or not, well-intentioned or not. I love you all, best of luck in whatever you've moved onto since we last spoke, and I hope you're all as young-at-heart as you were back then too. Here's to... I guess... Seven years ago? ~VC
  16. Broken Heart Pendant: Half of a silver pendant holding half of a beautiful ruby in the shape of a heart. It looks like there is another part to this. Fur Lined Child's Blanket: A fur lined blanket that is small enough for a growing child. It looks old and a little tattered but still soft. Broken Ceremonial Dagger: A dagger with strange runes engraved on the hilt. The bloody blade seems to writhe but whatever power it held was lost long ago. Bloom of Bob: This is a strange badge that resembles some sort of flower. It is given to all guardians of Bob as a sign of loyalty. Catch the Crit board: A board with 200 spaces, Perfect for playing hit game (made by Vicious Chaossword) Catch the Crit. Fine dress: This dress belongs to a lady of expensive taste. It has enchanted golden thread in various places to hold it together. It is made out of a soft material that feels like running your hand through the fluffiest cloud you could imagine. Alliance badge (Format): This badge shows that it's owner belongs to the (Alliance name) alliance. It looks like a (Description of badge decided by alliance). Feather of the Phoenix: This feather comes from the legendary Phoenix. Sometimes a little flicker of fire leaps from it, making heat but burning nothing. Feather of the Fallen: This feather looks like it comes from a large wing. It is dark and feels wrong. It seems to writhe and curl up randomly. Crown of Feathers: Various colored feathers have been stuck around a crown shaped piece of wood. It looks full of life and joy. Cloak of Darkness: It seems that the darkness has taken the form of a cloak for some reason or other. Mouse: It's a mouse. Brown furred and squeaky this fluffy little bugger sits on your head, ignoring the waving hands and death flames up there. Broken golden nose: This nose seems as if it is part of something else. Idol of the Goddess: This hand-sized Idol shows a mighty goddess with a staff in one hand and an orb of gold in the other. It's a shame about the nose though. (Magick things) Rowan Staff: This staff is made out of Rowan. It is supposed to protect whoever holds it and clear their mind for spells. Carved into the center is a pentacle that show the five elements. Spirit, Water, Fire, Earth and Air. The fire and spirit symbols seem less faded than the others. Other various symbols are carved into the staff. This is not made for combat. (This would probably be a role based item) Alder Staff: This staff is carved out of Alder wood. It is supposed to bring victory in conflict, Mental or Physical. Carved into the center is a pentacle that show the five elements. Spirit, Water, Fire, Earth and Air. The fire, water and spirit symbols seem less faded than others. Other various symbols are carved into the staff. This staff was blessed in water to strengthen it, It is made for combat, (Role based) Birch Broom: The broom is made of birch wood. It is used to brush out the evil from a place and banish fears. A faded pentacle is around the center of the broom, it is impossible to make it out. three symbols looks less faded than the others. At the top of the broom there is a strange wing shape. (Role based) Hawthorn Band: This little band is meant to be worn around the wrist. A heart is carved into the band. Made of hawthorn this band is made to attract men, a flower or two are stuck on the band still. A smell of the band would make you feel sleepy. A worn pentacle is carved into the band, but it is impossible to work it out. (Role based) ^^^^^^^ Return to that later. Mood Ring: This ring is enchanted with magic to show the wearer's mood. Bejeweled Sword: Far too pretty to be used in combat this sword has a fine edge and precious gems running along its hilt and blade. Book of animals: This book seems to be from another world. It is made of strange materials and holds a page for alot of animals of that world. (Heh... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_animal_names) Mur: some are great, but unusable for my purpose, i striked out what i can't use
  17. This really wouldn't take months of coding.. most the ideas use already implemented things. Also I strongly disagree with Menhir about the last section but some of the other ideas are quite good, though discussed before
  18. Well what about.. since it's the opposite.. ghosts gain power when standing still?
  19. The dead could gain the heat that was lost :P
  20. Spirits are seperate to the body but can be linked. Affinity - If someone is dead for a long time.. or completes tasks they gain affinity for either life or death. Life gains a little more VE while death loses a little. So far we have compared affinity levels to MP levels... Spells and other things change depending on if you are one with the spirits or the body. As a spirit you would gain another kind of heat. ghost abilities range from messing with the living (moving their spirit to confuse them) to moving around the world quickly. An idea is that while a person casting a death movelock would be able to block an exit with a shade or something, a person with a life movelock would be able to... lower AP from an exit to escape. Another example would be... Someone with death affinity would be able to dive into the spirit world and cover their steps using an illusion spell while someone with a life affinity would blaze brighter and leave a trail behind in the living world. Just ideas. The spirit world could/would be a reflection of our world that has been frozen at a certain time... For example things would have changed... Ruins would be as they were before time destroyed them and bob would be in permenant bloom. Together someone with life affinity and someone with death affinity can erect shrines to which heat or spiritual energy can be donated to. Rifts- Places where a high amount of spiritual/heat energy have been used and rifts between the worlds have opened. A living person can enter these to go into their spirit form, leaving their bodies behind, while a spirit can go into the world with heavy costs for travel and spellcasting. Rifts would be opened at certain locations like gazeebo's, shrines, altars and other places powered by either magic or belief. there would be a small rift at bob where spirits can be seen. Affinity Scale - 0 Cursed, Infernal, Death 1 Dark, Evil, Wrath 2 Dead, Weak, Soulless 3 Neutral, Balanced, Unsure 4 Alive, Weak, Soul 5 Awakened, Good, Compassion 6 Blessed, Divine, Life. Cursed and Sacred lands - Some places will be harder to cross depending on your affinity. Loreroot has a very minor life affinity but is mainly neutral. No mans land has a slight bonus to the death (not noticable though) as it is clear that there was once some of it. though since no land claims it as it's own it is neutral. Necrovion has a major death affinity, ghosts can pass into here in spirit form and manifest with more power there. People with life affinity dread the place and try to avoid it. Marind's bell leans towards life. The lands of the east are unknown to me. the MDA area has a decent life affinity. The underground is a dark place so those with a life affinity distrust it. Note: A corpse cannot have life affinity without aid from the living and a living person cannot have death affinity unless they perform certain rituals with the dead. Research: Some research isn't available without being in the spirit or living world.
  21. The body could be moved with a leash but not the spirit?
  22. http://imagebin.ca/v/1ls42IcCypNZ Sasha already saw this :) Honestly it's the best I could do
