1. About the broken glass sphere... Take it to be water instead for simplicity. Imagine there is no gravity. The ball of water is held as a ball by surface tension. Now split it approximately in half, with no splash. You now have 2 hemispheres, which become spheres due to surface tension if the slicer repels water. Is there more information? Seems to be twice as much. With a gentle nudge, push the two back together, or just bridge the gap between them, and surface tension + capillarity will do the work. They reform into one sphere. Overall, you've simply released energy as heat from whatever device you used, i.e. there is greater entropy afterward. In fact, the method used to separate is more wasteful than that used to recombine. It's even simpler with gas or liquid in a closed container - separation or non-separation is just adding and removing a barrier, at the most efficient. There is an identical amount of energy expended to add/remove the barrier. A solid example? Hmm... how about putty or dough. Slice the ball in half. You can roll the two halves back together, but this is wasteful as it deforms parts of the ball unaffected by the split. If you could microscopically work on the divide to put together the initial state, there would be no waste to deform the rest of the ball, and it would exactly match the energy needed to separate them. I do not know of a better solid example, and this one isn't stellar, but it gets the point across. For glass, the methods we need to use to put it back together are EXTREMELY wasteful, actually requiring that it melts and then solidifies back. This clouds the fact that the energy required to break it is exactly the same as the energy required to put it back together. If you could somehow take back all the heat used for melting it after it has reformed, you would see so. As far as I know, ALL processes are reversible with exactly the same energy, however wasteful the methods to reverse them may be, and however long it may take. The lone exception I know of is the release of energy as heat. It is only partly reversible, due to there being no perfectly efficient device possible to construct, and due to the second law of thermodynamics (this is related to entropy). One by one, I will dismantle your arguments, Mur, and you won't ever prove anything. >:] (jk) Thank you for putting this topic up and on the newslog; debate is very refreshing.
2. Making philosophy out of simple arithmetic? Ha ha... "You can not obtain the original number (10) by multiplying 3*3.3333 unless you have an infinite number of ...333... after the dot, but you can't have that without the helpof division!" If we are going to be precise, then you need to put an infinite number of zeros after 10 and 3; otherwise the number implies a level of uncertainty of the last digit ("significant digits"). I.e. you need 10.000000... and 3.0000000... . Exactly contradicting the second part of the sentence. I notice Observer has trouble with the concept of infinity... This "missing a 0.000...0001 somewhere" is postponed indefinitely, so it never occurs. What makes you tie division to entropy anyway? Making a number smaller? Then multiply by 0.1 . "Life creates matter out of information, out of nothing virtually." Life REARRANGES matter based on information in DNA & RNA. Thus, lowering entropy for the living organism. But, overall entropy still increases; this organism needs sustenance; it creates more entropy in its surroundings than it removes by its presence. Interesting quotes from wikipedia: "Current findings in statistical mechanics show that entropy is governed by probability, allowing for a decrease in disorder even in closed systems. Although possible, this event has a small probability, making it unlikely for a decrease to occur; if any were to occur, it would be a transient decrease that would affect a limited number of particles in the system." "Entropy is the only quantity in the physical sciences that seems to imply a particular direction for time, sometimes called an arrow of time. As we go "forward" in time, the second law of thermodynamics states that the entropy of an isolated system tends to increase or remain the same; it will not decrease. Hence, from one perspective, entropy measurement is thought of as a kind of clock." "The question of the link between information entropy and thermodynamic entropy is a hotly debated topic. Some authors argue that there is a link between the two, while others will argue that they have absolutely nothing to do with each other." "But there is more to life than just syntropy. Living beings are complete systems; this means that both syntropy and entropy should happen within same system. And they do. A part of one's life is syntropic, while the other part is entropic. The bridge between the two parts of our lives happens at around 25 years, but depends on the person." (grammar fixed) You mean that the balance is tipped from syntropy to entropy at ~25 years of age. Fun fact: the human brain finishes its development at ~25. I believe that with thedevelopment of technology, this tipping point can be postponed indefinitely. Overall entropy always increases; this is why I chose the principle in story mode.
There was a joke, how long is the coast of England..answer was that it depends on the length of the ruler you measure it with. If you divide it in smaller chunks is longer, if thery are bigger chunks the coast appears smaller. Eventualy with an endlessly small ruler, it would be endlessly big
Incorrect. It would approach a finite limit; this is the real length. Fun fact: 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 + 1/16 + 1/32 + 1/64 + ... = 1 It's kinda like that.
3. Unless it has been changed since implementation, the Dream Mutation Joker has a requirement of 1 spent WP to unlock, and itself costs 1 WP. I mentioned it in my previous post.
it should be obvious why the creature has to be untradable in this setup. and even if the 4 wp idea gets scraped: a useful, wp-obtainable, tradeable creature would increase the incentive of using alts as multi-solvers for wp quests or to abuse the age based wp (if it gets implemented). depending on the exact setup and powers, i'd even suggest making it one-per-account, untradable. the overall idea is a really nice one, but personally i'd be in favor of a slightly lower wp cost.
My humble opinion is that no creatures should be untradeable. If the conditions for recruiting need to be changed as to be less limiting, so be it. Having unlimited stock and no WP cost for each creature eliminates the incentive for alt abuse. Jokers are useless, so it's okay. But a useful creature would prompt abuse, yes. This is why I am against having a WP cost for each creature. Put a high spent-WP requirement and either 1 or 0 WP cost to actually be able to get them, and just recruit them normally on the map, or even through the wish shop for no cost (maybe for 125 AP ). I'm personally leaning to: 4-6 spent WP requirement to unlock, free purchase of each from the wish shop, unlimited stock. Now tell us about the creature.
4. Untradeable?... Absolutely not. There should be no untradeable creatures. Actually spending WP for the creature, as with the dream joker, I do not like. I'm all for new creatures, but a usable/useful creature should not have WP cost itself to recruit; it makes stronger people even stronger, because they wouldn't trade it even if they could. How about requiring 3-4 spent WP and 1 to unlock? And recruit it, in the Tribunal, for regular VP, VE, and AP? Kinda like the Berserker's Charge item, just a bit more expensive.
AND i want the crit to have mp5 as requirement XD
Hey!
5. Best LHO - *Burns*, *Indyra Sirenias*, *awiiya* Nobody said I can't nominate more than 1. Best Quest - cutler's and awii's.
6. This could balance any and all stat-boosting tokens, no matter how powerful. My idea: a dynamic debuff aura on every tokened creature. Call it "Scar Link". Cut, say, 10 or 20% of the strength of every other tokened creature in play. Also pin its effect to the slider - at 100% it does not effect the tokened creature; at 0% it has full effect on the creature. This would compound for every tokened creature in play (as compound interest does). The point is that this would lower the overall stats of a creature to 5-30% of its original stats. Making it extremely vulnerable to a Tormented Soul's stat suck aura, because it would calculate on original stats. Even giving the tokened creature negative stats if the effect is intensified. To deter token stacking, add a separate debuff on each token (maybe call the effect "Scarred") as part of the token: cut, say, 2% of the strength of every tokened creature, including the one it's on. Not tied to the slider.
7. I also find it hilarious how people are advocating awards they want to win. How about Least Known, Best Lurker, Lowest-Stat Veteran, or Most Humble? xD I can't nominate myself for Most Humble, can I?... xD I agree with Watcher's idea, but I would edit it to "no player may win the same award twice in a row." Still lets Bored defend his title next year.
8.
1/365 should be enough. More will definitely lead to abuses. And no alts.
Ditto. I recommend the giveout day to be either Christmas, or the anniversary of MD, or the person's birthday.
9. 4 WP at 275 days, 3 used... Guess I'm around average... But back ontopic, I don't think a 4 WP crit is a good idea. Requiring 4 spent WP to recruit, whatever its cost may be, is a viable option, though.
10. Maybe you didn't actually log out. http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/5662-trouble-logging-out/
11. I'm thankful for Thanksgiving music. http://www.thefump.com/fumps/rl128_I_Heart_Thanksgiving_128.mp3 http://www.tomsmithonline.com/freestuff/oddio/017.m3u
12. After being afk for a while at Berserker's Way, it didn't put me in idle mode. I logged out, intending to go to my alt, but when I hit the back button it returned me to the game. I repeated this; same thing. Then I logged out again and opened a new tab (straight to http://magicduel.com/layout.php ; it always redirects to the login screen when you're not logged in); I was again returned to the game. At this point, I was greatly amused. I opened a new tab, repeating this. Fortunately, I hit upon the multiple windows message, and successfully logged out from there. I have not been able to repeat this.
13. When I started as an mp3, I stayed for the battle system. I got sucked in by that a clever noob could beat a vet. Currently, this is completely broken by tokens. IMHO, fix this at least before calling Alpha 10. I heard Shadowseeker made a recommendation on this. Anything is better that the current state. There cannot be any unbeatable rituals, or any requirements to make a powerful rit. Public creatures should be able to defeat anything. That being said, the Weaken Defense ability is unbalanced. Something should be put in to balance it, like a creature that resets stats applied or that does Defend to Multiple. The biggest bug in the game atm is one everyone knows: Regen. How can this still not be fixed for so long? Make a new ability that destroys XP and does damage as a percent of that, or something. The RPC list was useful for finding quests that one could attempt. Now that they're gone, a better quest list is needed. Many people have quests without the page for it; this necessity is weird to me. I think everyone should be able to apply (maybe to an LHO?) for a public quest page if they so desire, for the duration of the quest. If Chapter 3 is delayed only by artwork, release it without art. Please.
14. I confirm that the level 5 archer (Dark Archer III) still has no tagrets.
- Drain power: 280.007% ( tried for 7.92% ) - Permanently draining: 437817.99 Time Principle (-281458.33 left).
280%?... Did it synthesize nonexistent charge? Anyway, Mur announced he fixed this to max at 2%. Is this before or after that?
15.
no, its a test, you didnt have to participate, Your loss
I presume not participating means not playing at all for the duration of the test, because I had managed to successfully remove charge from an idler (haven't tested whether this still works). That's a bit harsh, because the test will supposedly last a while. Now that I think about it, I have yet to see an instance where draining principles actually increases charge on an existing principle. Charge can be destroyed only, as far as I've seen (this makes sense, because Mur stated in the announcement that this draining is an alternative to a reset of all charges). I personally quite like it, but would prefer a new creature for it, and I think it should do more creature damage.
16. I gained the following principles, and am now mp 10/4 (as you can see on my profile) . I hope it isn't temporary. Element Principle = 0 Principle of Balance = 0 Principle of Light = 30 Principle of Cyclicity = 131 Principle of Imagination = 30 Principle of Syntropy = 22 I heard there was a bugfix yesterday evening - I got the last 4 principles after that, though still yesterday (at the stat they are; I did not sacrifice). There also seemed to be a buzz in mp3-4 activity in the sparring grounds after I got my last 2 principles from an arranged battle there (I think they may have caught on). I suspect there are a LOT of players with extra principles. I also lost about 20 charge in Time from testing. Finally, I would like to mention that it appears when extra principles are gained, they do not rearrange. So it is easy to see which ones someone gained - the last ones in the list on their page.
17. I suspect this is related: Action reported, you do not have access to this document. If you feel it is an error please report on the bug section. #rpcdoc22 #:0 I got this when clicking "Edit" on my comments on self after the page expired. It's supposed to tell me to click the compass to refresh.
18. Success is a goal having been achieved. (e.g. trying to beat a personal speed record at Minesweeper within the next hour, and doing so) The timespan for completion of the goal must be specified with each goal (the upper limit, and the default, is the expected span of the target's lifetime, because my definition of "you" does not apply to corpses). Time of action, etc is irrelevant unless intrinsic to the goal. Partial success is having gotten closer to the goal without having achieved it, determined after the goal becomes unachievable. This is considered failure by perfectionists. (e.g. Going after someone to go out with them and getting a "maybe later.") With some goals, partial success is impossible. (e.g. trying to beat a personal speed record at Minesweeper within the next 10 tries) Failure is not having gotten any closer to achieving a goal, determined after the goal becomes unachievable. (e.g. attempting to ... uh... Make an example for me, I've given up trying ) <--- an example where failure is success. xD Success as a level of social status is a success at the goal of attaining a higher status, i.e. wealth (as determined by society). The presented models (arrows, distorted circles, etc) are rather distracting.
2. Who made the goal? Any person, creature, object or even a concept. We can ascribe goals and perceived success to everything. You could argue that it is us, humans, who invented the goal, but if you agree on 1, then it is not required for the thing having the goal to be aware (of the goal). Without the thing, we would never have thought of its goal, so we did not make it entirely by ourselves. Causality?
I must disagree slightly. Who made the goal? The opposing team. (jk) Any being (or collection thereof) conscious enough to be capable of doing so can make a goal. A personal goal is one you made for yourself.

20. Territory: Lands Of The East Coord: 7_terracecrossroads_1 Anything I type here does not show up in the chat log.
21. Spells are fine, Guy helped me fix that. If the path is open, I should be able to travel it.
22. I bought Berserkers' Charge access in the Wish Shop. I assumed it would open up a new tunnel somewhere directly to that location. However, I am unable to find such a tunnel. I was told that the entrance to Berserkers' Charge is inside Necrovion. However, I cannot get past the gates. This seems to mean that I activated access from a point I do not have access to. >.< Shouldn't this at least be stated on the wish shop item?... Secondly, the mirror ritual and guardian army spells that I also bought in the wish shop are not working.
23. I translated "fine" into Polish. It understood it to mean "end," due to the Italian word, rather than the English one. But it translated "It is fine." correctly.
24. What about extra creature slots? I certainly like the idea; maybe it'll be possible to put a lot of people in some kind of dream...
25. I'm on a Linux. I tried the Konqueror browser - it says that it's unsupported. I switched back to Mozilla and I get the logout cooldown messasge. I assume this isn't supposed to be so. However, the multiple windows thing does not activate when already running another account on Mozilla.
