Soothing Sands reacted to Jubaris in New King of Marind BellI have decided not to prolong my term as MB king (few years ago before Chewy became the king, we made a protocol to check the kingship every 6 months and organize a new vote if necessary, based on previous experiences).
A process that lasted a few months (candidacy, method of voting, voting, contacting admins, etc.) is finally ended and we have a new king after succesful elections!
Nadrolski was the only candidate, in an election that had option to support Nadrolski's candidacy and an option "none of the above" practically against Nadrolski's candidacy.
There was 1 null vote. 100% of regular votes were in favor of Nadrolski, so we have a new king.
Long live King Nadrolski!

Soothing Sands got a reaction from Hedge Munos in PoetryThe quiet flower likes the color it has.
The bees like it.

The quiet flower looks
to the bees
the grass
and the wind for comfort,
but finds none,
for they cannot speak to the flower.

clarification edit: I saw this more as a mental exercise than me trying to get LotE citizenship.

Soothing Sands got a reaction from Lazarus in JealousyHere's my short analysis on rewards:
If you have downvotes and people say you are ( immature, annoying, doing things wrong, ect. ):
You get 1 reward, which is your chance to branch out and do something on your own.
If you have upvotes and listen and speak well with others:
You get incremental rewards which you can use with some teamwork to do something more mainstream.
Not saying these are the only 2 options, but it seems like the general idea.

Soothing Sands got a reaction from (Zl-eye-f)-nea in The cage - TB citizenship rewardWhenever I try to explain something to myself, I always start from the beginning, even if I already know where the ending leads. Even if I've already explained it, the same way, many times before. Like every time I open myself up it seems I haven't really gone anywhere since the last time. It's only the appearance of my 'cage' which changes. The beast inside, the real me, has little capacity for growth. All it does is growl and thrash its claws: day in, and day out.

Soothing Sands reacted to Jubaris in Is It Possible Changing Principles?Depends what does our 'selection' of principles stand for, our affinity in certain principles, finding our main aspects in their symbolism, or something else?
If it is so, then it is prone to change in some form.
In any case, token system is what is messing this up, because they are giving clear advantage to certain combination(s?) of principles. To save MD's nature in this field, I would suggest finding an alternate way to power up tokens rather than having specific principles and their respective value points.
-
Soothing Sands reacted to lashtal in Principlies vs ForcesI'm afraid few words can't really describe what a principle is about, I'd suggest those interested to read Mur's book or at least the principles' description on the homepage.
That said, you are just replacing the word "principle" with "force", which is imho less appropriate.

Soothing Sands reacted to Jubaris in Reducing the power of FreezesNot sure if this was ever brought up: How about when you kill a creature, all of its effects/auras drop? For instance, you manage to kill a reindrach, from that moment on, his freezing aura is annulled, as well as his boost to the gg drach?
Also, the III'' suggestion: Initiative giving lead has sense, but the ID portraying the 'fixed' age of a creature is also interesting to me, giving advantage to an older creature - since it is a matter about auras, and not actual attack, the whole spiritual level, it being stronger as it evolves, so makes sense to me that an older creature would unleash its aura first as it is 'stronger' in that aspect.
This is a bit controversial since it overrides the 'age' stat of the creature, making its ID 'the actual age', but still...

Soothing Sands reacted to Assira the Black in Loreroot Song Quest*pouts* I like to sing... but I am not the best at it. I tried making a song and chose some music to go with. It would be really great if people added their songs that they created (has to be created by you) and add some music to it (can be from youtube, if a song with vocals is chosen... the vocal portion will not be counted just the instrumental music will be) .
My song:
Big plum
Small plum
Boy, I like to eat
Fresh plum
Rotten plum
Ugh!I prefer the first one
Purple plum
Red plum
It doesn't matter to me
Sweet plum
Sour plum
Are good together
One plum
Two plum
One for me and two for another
Music to go with:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XocGuknk_M
1st Place: 3 Silver
2nd Place: 2 Silver
3rd Place: 1 Silver
There is a catch, YOU HAVE to sing in front of at least three people who are awake in md. It can be other singers you sing in front of .... it can be me. Anybody as long as they are awake and listening. The only other exception is your or known alts, for example if Hiria, Assira, and I are gathered in one place they will not count as part of the three people who are awake...There would only be 1 witness.
All three people do not have to be gathered at the same place, you can sing to them separately.
Have fun!
Legna
By the way, I will be judging based on the song you write, music chosen to go with, and number of people that witness your song.
Post on the topic if you sung in md, the music that went with it, and the witnesses.

Precedent:
When Ravenstrider disbanded the Necrovion sentinels, Jester had an option to revive them by spending one trust point.
I personally don't think the Council should take 1 trust point off of Mya/whatever, good reasoning can be made as it was called for by the Council, but as a last resort, they should have that option, no?
Personal reasons:
Realm without alliances such as the Sentinels and GoTR seems much poorer.
Ever since Firsanthalas I was never a fan of what GoTR was doing, but the hope for a better future remains,
The activities of such 'main' alliances may be dubious, but their presence means something to me as a player, I like the symbolism of the Guerrilla, GoTR, Sentinels, SoE, even though the players somehow don't play as per my imaginary expectations, that includes myself as a SoEr I guess. MD loses a lot without them.
If GoTR goes to slumber, I hope it will come back one day stronger, although different than what was till now.

Soothing Sands got a reaction from nadrolski in Gates (not Bill)The only thing I would watch out for is collecting resources being too important. I'd much rather put the emphasis on player engagement rather than running around gathering stuff. In other words, a few high level resources are required than a bunch of low level ones. I want to be able to help even if i can't participate very often, and the only thing that determines gate strength should not be time committed.
That being said, example:
sand -> glass
elu -> colored paper
fighting -> fenths
bushes -> bushies
explosives: 10 glass + 20 fenths
use explosives: 1000 heat, 3 combat bursts from 3 players
defensive material: 5 colored paper + 10 bushies
use def. material: no combat logs stored in battle log (not being attacked)

Soothing Sands got a reaction from Jubaris in Powerful land items and abilitiesI think another way to explain this would be transforming a theoretical vulnerability into an actual one in order to stimulate activity and whatnot. There is no 'exactly' because that's what, in a sense, we are trying to figure out here.
Also, i'm assuming we are focusing on mainlands because they are the most clearly defined. If a non-mainland has an idea for a land-related item/spell/attribute/ect, I doubt it's going to be shot down just because it's not 'main'.
-
Soothing Sands reacted to Jubaris in Powerful land items and abilitiesCurrently, the mainland kingdoms have no abilities specific to them, other than an amalgam of their individuals who might or not have some roles. Which is weird considering that when kings were introduced, they were supposed to be epicenter of our realm's activities.
Several years later, there is still no gameplay difference between mainlands and other lands.
Others can speak about their own lands, I am curios about everything and eager to provide thoughts, although I will be addressing Marind Bell here specifically.
If you look at the sign at our gates:
Marind Bell Gates
The remains of a once flourishing town, Marind Bells real name was forgotten, and its current name is given after Marind, the protector of these lands. Its power lies in deep mysteries and powerfull protective magic developed in time to withstand Necrovions constant attacks. This land was once peaceful but is now tainted by the fury of war and hatred against darkness.
There are no such things in the gameplay. We've been talking around in MB trying to figure out the best way to manifest land natures.
For now, we think that the easiest solution that will have a point will be introducing new land shared items, powerful ones that will require a lot of land loyalty.
In our case, protective abilities. For Necrovion, it will most likely all be offensive oriented, etc.
Due to MB's isolationist nature, maintaining sanctity is what I am thinking of.
Abilities that prevent teleporting you (while in Marind Bell at the very least), perhaps in a form of an item that assigns a nosummon tag for a period of time in a scene where you are at.
Also, healing abilities. Resurrection items, for example, 2 of those with at least 1000 land loyalty points requirement, and maybe a month longer cooldown than the normal resurrection items.
It sounds a radical change from this point, but it fits the general balanced system, and it is something that was long due, together with other mainland item equivalents of course.
Calling for support on the matter, looking forward on conclusions from the discusions and welcoming suggestions and expansions.

Soothing Sands got a reaction from Jubaris in Libraries and books!I just rushed right into this one, didn't know what to expect. My default is usually poetry, but i went with no rhymes this time, which is a bit different.
LR- Lore Manor
---------------------
The wooden door slowly swings open..
The rusty hinges moan quietly
Imprints of bare feet in the patches of moss, patches of dirt
The first shelf extends down the wall, rows and rows of books, varying in sizes and colors
Their bindings sorted by careful hands, old leather bound with fraying strings
Dust falls off the cover, and upon opening, the yellowed pages flow in order like a river of gold
Pausing a moment for a deep breath...
A-Choo!, sneezing loudly
Birds chirp from their nests in the trees outside
The sun illuminates the room in a warm glow
The book shuts with a satisfying thud
It is returned to its spot, content with its place
The dust slowly settles as you leave
