1. I promised a wp to the most artistic cauldron recipe, if we had at least 3 entries. Sadly, I don't think any of the three I got really meets the need we have for a revival mechanism integrating the community garden situation and the desire to use my musical tools to effect a revival. Thus, I am off searching for other things to revive the dead -- it has been hard to get refocussed back on this quest. We need to award a wp to one of the three submitters, as advertised, but I need a judging panel. I'm afraid I'm looking through blood-tinted glasses on this, and not giving them a fair hearing. Could I get 3 volunteers to do an artisting judging? Many thanks in advance... Obviously if you submitted, don't volunteer an alt to judge....
2. Um, is a "learning stone" just a memory stone that has been imprinted with something to learn?
3. Okay, I'm heading East, pickles in hand. Hope to find you along the way, and perhaps get you all to help with the Lost Path Adventure - much is buried in the Far East. Idling at statue hall door. Having a nice conversation with Eon. His/her dice say "8"
4. I'll happy to hand out a spicy pickle to anybody trying to get through the MDA gate. Just PM me and go idle in Wind's Sanctuary, and I can pass over a spicy pickle. For new players - I also several limited casts of a nice heal spell, and can help in other ways. I'm happy to answer questions. I generally regain conciousness several times a day - just leave me a note and be patient. That ale is tricky......
5. I give away stuff as quests (see my [Q] doc or the sign by Wind's Sanctuary), or can be a temporary holding spot. I have a lot of slots now, since my spirit underworld got cleaned out.
6. Yes, I exagerate to get my point across. My point was, I am more concerned about the lesson others will draw than about the dead-ness itself. Perhaps I did let a little bitterness creep in and what I said was not helpful to my own cause. I was trying to support my team-mate, Tom, by explaining why he was posting as he did. Even though he is newest to MD, and lacks the experience in "politically correct" posting (hence needing some defense), Tom has been the most active solver on the team. He and AmberRune have been great. Yes, mobility/death has not been my limitation on activity during this festival. As I said, I didn't want to be leader as I knew I had other commitments outside the realm. Mostly I helped organize quests. If Tom or Amber had been picked by the grim reaper, it would have been very grim indeed....
7. Seig, within the game, it's all a game. Even being a super-villain who ignores all rules of civility, which you are not, would be part of the game. The more variety we have around here, the more challenges people have to cope with. They call it role-play for a reason. We are not our characters, as attached as we might be. If you are tired of one role, you can try another one. Are you having fun yet? There have been a few players who stepped outside the game and made it personal (no names) and that's a big no-no. The game and its players do need to be protected against such behaviors.
8. For the record, I'm just as much in the dark as Tom. I'm too busy to care much about being dead just now. In the grand scheme of things, I'm sure I'll get revived eventually. Blink of the eye and all that.... BUT I think this is a really crappy way to run a festival. Who is ever going to sign up to be on a festival team again, let alone agree to lead one, if the expected result is that they will be singled out to be made "dead"? It's a secondary effect that said person is then unable to participate in the remaining 2/3 of the festival in a meaningful way. Quite a reward for trying to get a team to pull some quests together. I didn't even agree to be the leader of our team. I think Tom is a little concerned because he sort of tagged me as leader. No worries Tom, it'll all shake out in the end. Think of it as a rite of initiation or such. I'm touched that you are concerned - thanks. Quite ironic that my main activity the last month or so was an attempt to get a reliable public channel open for reviving the dead....
9. So, no attempts at all. How sad.
10.
Ahh, so just to clarify in my mind: If I use creature id 778877 & 778878 in battle, and you use creature 778870 & 778874 we would have a "score" of 11 right? (obviously, there would be 6 creatures on each side, but you are comparing the id per slot, yes?) ..77-..70 = 7 and ..78 - ..74 = 4 (7+ 4 = 11) maths are hard So ideally, you'd want to use low id creatures against high ID ones, for the largest 'spread'?
Nope. This would not be a winning battle. You have differentials of 7 and 4 there. All the differentials must be the SAME (absolute value, could be positive or negative). So creature 100, 101, 102, 103, 104, 105, 106 might fight creatures 111, 112, 113, 94, 95, 116, for instance, and the score would be 10.
11. Dead - but posted the Day 2 Quest....

12. Welcome, Puppets, to the second day's challenge from The Puppeteers! This is called "Combat by the Numbers" Each team is tasked with creating a battle report of a 6 vs. 6 combat wherein the ID numbers of the creatures involved has a special relationship. Compare opposing creatures as physically arranged in the screen shot (upper left vs. upper left, etc.). Consider the absolute value of the difference between their ID numbers. If all six values are the same, the screenshot is a winner with that ID differential as a measure of the value. You will need to have one screenshot of the battle (for positioning, either player's point of view) and both player's summary reports to demonstrate creature ID's. Other proofs of creature ID may be required by judges if they deem necessary. Jockeying for position: When the first team declares a winning set of screenshots by posting on THIS forum thread, including the time and ID differential, the clock starts scoring points for that team. To take the lead, the other team must post a winner with a LARGER ID differential. The lead position goes back and forth between the teams throughout the day, with each posting of a higher ID differential. The winning team is the one that clocks the most time in the lead position during that 24 hour period. Note: The battles themselves must also happen during the second day of the festival – no old battle records, please! Old creatures are of course allowed. Second Note: It is permissible to simply post on the forum that a battle of value such-and-such has been created. Screenshot proofs may be held back and presented to the judges privately at a later time, if you so desire. May the combats begin! Watch out for those bursts!
13. Make it more gray, then black pockets will pop out more?
14. Sign me up. Let me know if any of my resources would be helpful to the project.
15. So, in such an individual-result-type quest, the team should help their one representative to achieve that goal FIRST, and if others on the team get it too, that's just for fun. Right?
16. We need clarification. It is possible to design a quest where the team works together for one group result. It is also possible to design a quest where individual members of the team each achieve the result, or not. We are presuming both sorts are acceptable, yes? In either case, we are responsible for generating a team score at the end, possibly using checkpoints to measure progress, that assigns performance of each team on a scale from 0 to 100%. We get a bonus as designers if one team gets 100%. If we design a quest of the sort where you can count how many of the team members reached the goal, you can assign 100% to the winning team, and proportion the score of the other team? One team has 3 members finish, one has 4 members finish, scores are 75% and 100%. We get the bonus even though all 9 team members did not finish, as long as somebody did finish. Is this correct?
17. ooc: Now hear this - if you solve the Eastern branch of the Lost Path Adventure, you gain the ability to edit the contents of this maze.... there are two players who already have this ability, besides me. There is not an xyz limit, but there are Memory Capacity issues.....
18. Right on Rumi! Let's show a big effort now and ask for something easier to use in future.... I'm sure we'll get something harder to use than we ask for.... On the other hand, making the price of a golden revive apple a certain % of your permanent max VE would make people think twice about getting one. 10% as a ballpark straw man suggestion?
19. My lost critters. Give them good homes....
20. Spirit Underworld, you mean.....
21. Congrats to tankfans, ignnus, and guillak. These three did the bulk of the rescuing!
22.
considering there's idk how many various threads already about the dead and various ways to revive them, how about you all decide on a single idea, and all back that? If you have 20 ideas and support is spread it'll be weaker than if you all back the same idea.
Well, I would be happy to see 20 ideas implemented. NOT a problem!
23. Wow! I am so grateful at the outrush of assistance, bringing these creatures back from the land of the dead. If we can do this, we can bring anything and anybody back! Thanks to this wonderful community effort, only TWO of those creatures remain trapped in the spirit underworld - both IMPS. I am very impressed. Oddly, nobody has claimed any silver, gold, or credits....
24. Ok, 9 months have passed and 41 of my spirit friends are still trapped in the labyrinth. All I want is for you to save them. Go to the labyrinth, LOOK at the sign, follow the corridors into the spirit underworld and find them. Rescue them from this hell, where they were put by Queen Esmeralda and the Evil Princess, and they are yours. Currently hidden are: 7 tormented souls and 7 unholy priests 5 jokers and 10 fat pimps 4 angiens and 8 noble Imperials Also, silver, gold, and credits. Why is nobody looking? Save them!
25. My efforts to create a revival item (wielded by me since I do trust myself) have morphed and merged with the general outcry from the community for a path to revival open to everyone, not just the rich. I had thought I was making just one more of something that already existed 8x over, but if such importance is to be placed on my bodhran that ITC back-up is insufficient, then I will gladly allow my drum (or whatever key item we make) to become a "boomerang" item that keeps on returning -- but only if this can be set up to put the item into the hands of people we trust to use it, and not just sit on it. Better yet -- make the cauldron item the permanently fixed-position apple tree in the community garden. Feed it with resources, and bingo, you're in business. Anybody. As to how easy it will be to get revived, I fear we have just seen the tip of the iceberg in terms of deaths. If we only generate 4 revives a year, and we have even a half-dozen deaths, there will be competition for who gets the next revive. i think we will be seeing many, many "deaths" and will be needing strong medicine to counteract that. p.s. I would guess Eon wanted a revive item so that he himself could not be killed permanently, wouldn't you suppose? He might have a hard time winning popular community support, eh? And could be a logical target for an assassin's knife....
