  5. dst. I'm not sure if both these you's are directed at me, but I'll reply as if they are. No, I don't deny access to research information to anyone. When it comes to "trading" information, there is always something that I would consider a reasonable trade. What I get in return doesn't have to be related to said information, it doesn't have to be of same "worth". Sometimes there isn't even an apparent causal relation, if you get my meaning. It can be anything really. A good joke, answering a random question, some funny rp or just being interested. "tit for tat" in the broadest sense. So, if I can, I'll happily point out something that struck me as interesting in regard to the topic at hand. Or, if I can't, (which happens more frequently) point to someone who can. But as I said before, I see no point in spoon feeding every observation someone might make while researching something. I think its better if some effort is put into it. "the journey being more important than the destination" and all that. As to bragging or acting snobbish about supposed "knowledge" one might have. I don't think I ever done that. Even if i was inclined to, I don't "know" much anyway. I agree with most of what you say about that. To quote one of my favorite authors "Selling the sizzle is well and good. But at some point you have to produce the sausage"
  6. Maybe that's because a lot of people: A) "say" they want to do research, while in reality they want you to tell them what you know without actually doing any work for it. B) "say"they want to share notes on a subject, while in reality its answer A all over again. C) Knowledge, (any kind) is currency. That said, I am and always were prepared to share information with most people on a quid pro quo basis. But I won't cater to freeloaders and lazy people.
  7. So, I've tried a slow cut with various knives and techniques. Cutting down, cutting up, moving the cig instead of the knife, somewhat circular motions of knife and/or cig, moving veeery slowly. But no clean cut through that last little bit of paper so far. Though it was very close a couple of times. I will let this rest for now because there are other things that require my attention :P But I might give it another try at some later time.
  8. Happy birthday :)
  9. This this the kitchen knife I used in the vid. It's cheap stainless steel, bought it a while ago in a local supermarket. I think it cost 3 or 4 euro. If you can tell me what you're looking for Mur, I can take another pic, different angle or maybe closer if my phone cam can handle it. With the tanto I spent about an hour sharpening. Preparing the water stone took about half an hour. Grinding the knife about 20 minutes and another 40 minutes with a leather strap. 15 cigarettes destroyed and one thumb slightly damaged, trying to get a clean cut. The kitchen knife, sharpening about 45 minutes. 15 minutes with a sharpening steel and 30 minutes with the leather. Only 2 cigarettes destroyed. Both were a clean cut, but I didn't film the first try. Add some more time for experimenting, taking pics, filming, uploading and such. All in all it kept me busy Sunday afternoon :) A slow cut is definitely harder to do than a fast slice. With a flat blade, speed and keeping the blade properly aligned it doesn't have to be that sharp to cut the cigarette decently. When moving slowly the quality of the blade's material is probably more important. You can certainly get a better edge on it. I'm going to try cutting a cigarette slowly next. Thinking about using a ceramic knife. I'm curious how exactly you (Mur) did it with your razor. How did you hold the cigarette? Did you cut up or down? Did you push the blade through, or did you slice?
  10. Ok, here's my attempt. First I tried with my tanto, It's 440 stainless steel, has a hollow grind and is actually sharp enough to shave with. I use a Naniwa 1000/3000 water stone initially and finished with a leather strap to give it that little bit extra. But I failed. The back of the blade is rather thick and it pushed the cigarette parts apart while cutting through. So the last bit of paper still tears. Then I tried with an ordinary kitchen knife. Sharpened with a sharpening steel and again a leather strap. This did the trick. Though I could probably get a smoother cut with a little more polishing I'm holding the cigarette with some pliers because... well, safety first. I already nicked my thumb :P Vid:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X378z5dnaDw&feature=youtu.be
  11. Happy B-day Grasshopper :)
  12. Shouldn't Eon be on this list as well?
  13. I'm going to give it a try too :)
  14. Dominium (Latin) = ownership (also translated as dominion sometimes) Dominion (English) = the exercise of control - a sphere of influence or control (there are other meanings as well. But I think these are relevant here) Dominium of Mur = That which is owned by Mur. Dominion of Mur = That which is controled by Mur. Yes, "Dominium of Mur" is not "proper English". But let's not get into the linguistic purism discussion. That's just silly :) Language is a fluent thing. Both use of dominium and dominion fit purpose and function. As Kyphis says, you can use both to refer to your land. And I like the subtle distinction the words make between that part of the world you choose to keep for your self and that which you actually control.
  15. As I "read" it. Tribunal lands ----- Dominium of Mur. Dominium refers to that part of the Lands of the East you keep as your own, mostly called Dominion of Mur. Technically, of course, you hold dominion over all of MD but as a player you chose to keep just your "dominium" as your own. The text below the seal refers to what ever authority you as "dominion holder" choose to speak for you. So yes, it's fine. I think it looks more official this way.
  16. I thought you meant it that way. Anyway , while it mixes languages a bit, it still fits. Think about it. (Dominium, a legal term meaning "Dominion; control; ownership,")
  17. Happy birthday both of you.
  18. Happy B Day :)
  19. Happy B day Red.
  20. Might I remind you that there are still lands which don't have a seal (coat of arms). ( or at least not one that is approved by you)
