  1. You can still use your regular mail. I know this is too little too late now, but I save one mail from everyone, so that I can write them when/if I feel the need to do so again.

Regular mail? But that's my point. I can't because I don't have any PMs from the people I want to write. Hence the "new message" function.

  2. Given certain events in the past few days (namely one being called attention to in a thread that has now been closed to the public view) have risen questions and doubts in some people, next to causing discussions between others and me as well as between me and me (yes, I am strange like that).

    Anyway.

Said event(s) make me wonder about the powers of RPCs over the general population of MD. I understand that they are similar to "gods" in game, being given powers to punish and praise as seen fit and according to certain situations. That raises the question, who regulates the RPCs? Who makes sure they act with responsibility and authority in each and every situation?

I remember reading that the game creator based lots of his decision to name these people based on their involvement, their time and their apparent desire, passion and dedication towards the game. Yet after they are named, who checks to make sure they stay within bounds, or are there any bounds to begin with?

Disclaimer: By mentioning all of this I don't want to put a spotlight on the two (about to be named), I am merely using them as examples of a bigger issue at hand. So I am really sorry if you both feel personally attacked by this and what is to come, that is definitely not my intention. If it makes you uncomfortable, PM me and I will remove your names.

For those that didn't have the chance to see the thread, here a short summary of the case I mentioned at the beginning:

Robin Hood (on an alt MP3 account) was leading in the Head Contest. Ren - an MP4 at the time, attacked him to gain exp for his creatures and out of curiosity if he, as an RPC, could gain heads. He failed to win and thus attacked again. Robin, after realizing what happened, got upset and - I'm not sure if insulted, but definitely voiced his opinion (in not the most polite manner) to Ren. As they were annoying him in their quantity (at least that is what I understood from his posts) he attacked Robin once more.

Sometime after the first or second attack, mostly motivated by Robin's complaining, Ren contacted Shoeps, who in turn encouraged and authorized attacking people with a large amount of heads to make the contest more challenging and interesting.

All of this caused Robin to start a thread, which has now been moved to the trash, as well as raised discussion.

Basically my points - or questions, if you will - at hand:

[1]Were the two attacks following the first authorized one, legitimate?

[2]RPCs, having a certain status in-game, should act with authority, responsibility and maturity in all cases (or are supposed to).

[3]RPCs should not abuse their powers for personal gain.

[4]There should be some kind of regulation of RPCs and their actions.

[5]How much should a player be "punished" by leading with such a high score in the contest?

If yes to 1, does that mean it is OK for an RPC to attack players from other MP levels solely based on their personal desires and decisions? Even though technically Ren's first two attacks were within game regulations, as decided by Shoeps, his original intent was not such. Only after complaints were voiced did he think to check if what he did was OK.

Also: Was it necessary to force him to log off? Would weakening him and leaving him to defend his heads in that state not have been enough? (It would have helped other people raise their score, instead of just diminishing his). And most importantly: When would Ren have stopped attacking? Was his intention to actually get him to log off, or was he merely taking advantage of the fact that he wanted to gain exp anyway?

Their status comes as a reward, but that doesn't mean that after attaining said status you can just do whatever you please. They should have clear outlines of what is acceptable behavior and what is not, even if only to pacify and soothe regular players who don't want to be the prey of unreasonable wrath or sheer greed.

    So, I ask you:

Should RPCs have regulations? Or should they be allowed to do whatever they want, having earned their positions as "gods"? Are they more authority figures that help regulate, develop the story and keep strays in check, or are they simply given powers and told to do what they please?

  3. Mm, the system now is kind of inconvenient. We have to hunt the person down to be able to message him/her for the first time, and dig up an old message to reply to from then on.

But I have to say, there is a certain fun in it, especially when it comes to messaging rpcs for their quests.

*cough* Anyway, yeah, it would be a lot more intuitive; maybe another MD feature?

It's not fun when you are stuck in Story mode, as I am.

I can only bother you here now. Not nearly as much fun. Especially since you pretend to be doing homework.

  4. Being stuck in story mode I wanted to maybe sent some PMs to people in game I knew would be on, but don't frequent the forums that much.

But I noticed there is no option to create a new PM directly from the menu. How about adding such a feature? Similar to an email account, you could make an option labeled "new message" which would open a blank window for you to fill in the recipient, subject and the actual message.

Maybe also a button that lets you add people directly from your buddy list.

  5. @Gchick:

I don't have many good reasons for that odd...um... even number of choices.

    - I wanted the scale to be divisible by 5, stupid reason really. :D

    - Unlike many questionnaires out there which directly ask "Are you this kind of person?", my 'questions' are somewhat crooked. I can't explain why I did that either but I wanted the philosophical messages to sound more agreeable than not. You might notice that you picked 3 or above for most of the messages. So if people are going to somewhat agree with most of the messages anyway, why not make the result a bit more diverse by expanding that half of the spectrum? And since each message is crafted to be 'agreed' upon, if you have a 50-50 opinion, a slightly lower than neutral score (2) might reflect it better.

Anyway, I have no proof of the reliability of this test. Everything has been arbitrarily decided by me. So if you think it can be improved in some way, please let me know. :)

Thanks for your test result. I see it's quite similar to mine. :)

    @Calyx of Isis:

I'm not assuming anything. Some background is there in the other thread. I intend to organize things and make everything more clear later, but since I don't have enough time at the moment I just left things as they are now. Sorry for any confusion this has caused. :)

Another reason I don't speak much of MTG is because I don't want to feel like I'm advertising for them. They're doing well enough as it is without one more guy's help. ;)

I know I picked a lot of three and above, but I also have lots of 0 and 1, and often times I was wishing for a more detailed negative response, because sometimes it just DEPENDS. But that doesn't mean I am in doubt (as 2 implies), rather that I would have liked something like "no, but.."

  6. MTG is Magic: The Gathering, a TCG (not sure if that's the correct term; I mean, the "trading" part) where apparently ea. card is assigned to one of five? colors; decks based on certain combinations of colors are used for different strategies.

At least that's what I've put together. I haven't played it, but it seems pretty popular (esp. on MD; there was a whole MTG signature thing going on). I think I can imagine what it's like, since a lot of card games are based on colors/elements like that (maybe after it). I also used some cards for a stupid school project where I had to collect references to Greek Mythology. . . 200 of them. :'D.

The other day, the library was hosting a Magic: The Gathering tournament or something. Too bad I couldn't participate. I guess I should try playing the online version. >_>; I'm not great at card games anyway.

It's a fun game and the basics are pretty simple and easy to understand. It has great artwork and there is actually a story as well as some major recurring creatures.

  7. So.. How do I get the results to you?

Nvm, should have used the excel sheet instead of the text one.

    White: 17

    Blue 227

    Black -253

Red: -42 or -43 (difficult to see)

    Green: 52

One thing about your test: I noticed you have 3 different ways of agreeing, yet only two of disagreeing. I would balance that. Most tests use a scale of 5 as you did, but no 0. As such : 1 strongly disagree, 2 disagree, 3 no opinion /unsure, 4 agree, 5 strongly agree

  8. I have been trying out the new votelinks (and realizing that apparently I don't qualify for 99.6%).

Apparently "MySurvey: Ages 16-24" and "MySurvey: Ages 50+" are "corrupted links" and don't work. They give me another link to click on, which is something else. A main page or the like.

  9. so leave these surveys that require a credit card to be.

just pick the ones which requre only details of yourself and answers or something like this

without credit card and you'll be fine.

Btw, proxies don't work, it seems that they redirect me to tottaly different pages... I think I'm humped... :D

Obviously I am doing that. My point is that these links are not going to be used by anyone in the end, cause it doesn't make sense to pay a lot more to get a lot less.

  10. It's not a bug, but the words are confusing, you know? Newbies like the one who asked me think at first that their "max ap" should be raised, and that it is a bug.

Yes, that is true now that I think back.

I remember receiving max AP several times and saw them added to my point, but they always reset. I guess I forgot about it because I always just read the story, picked the time (24) and left. However, I am stuck at 100/100. If the AP are never supposed to rise above 100, the text needs to be changed. I definitely assumed it was added to my max total, as I am sure did plenty of others.

  11. I am having a lot of difficulty in mp4 and I now realized I brought some of it on myself. I rushed to mp4 and ended up not having as many leveled creatures as I needed and awful stats. Loss farming is ridiculous at this point as getting a win is close to impossible.

It's a tough level to work with because there are so few of us, and the actual difference in stats and creats is pretty wide.

This is a largely useless post except in that I wish I had known what I was getting into.

I don't think it's just that you rushed, I was in the same position. All of a sudden I noticed my creatures did not benefit from my wins, and such couldn't level. There was no reason to stay in MP3, as much as I wanted to.

  12. the 336 honor is what i was told i would receive if i won the battle. also at the end of the report it says i lost 2 honor for losing. it seems like the honor was switched berween the winner and loser.

Weird, so it said you won, yet when it came to awarding you honor it treated you as the loser.

  13. This suggestion is now on the "official" list of good ideas. Manu requested yesterday that such a list be created to make it easer for him to keep track of all the ideas that get bandied about. Chewett is maintaining this list and selecting items for inclusion.

    Awesome. xD

  14. I've said it before, in a different thread, and I'll say it again.

From what I've seen so far, the problem isn't the honor system, it's the win/loss determination system.

To be more precise, it's the fact that the "loss" counter is a lot more likely to rise then the "win" counter in most battles.

The problem doesn't begin with people wanting a high loss record.

It begins with people getting a high loss record, because losses are much more likely then wins.

This leads to other people wanting losses too, which sends the while system into a spin.

But the while problem begins with the fact that there are more losses in the while system then there are wins.

Again, this are mostly my observations, but the same thing has been noted by other players I've talked too.

The fact that the attacker needs to lose a certain percentage of his or her health for it to be counted as a win, makes it SO much harder. In the past week I have gotten exactly TWO wins. Although I have fought over 40 (tried to do 10 a day) and won at least 95% of those fights. That way it's just impossible.

We can't be expected to look for people that give positive honour and at the same time are strong enough to take the right amount of health from us during a fight so it counts as a win, yet not too much so we can still continue and all that WHILE trying to find someone from your MP level PERIOD. (I swear, yesterday I spent 2 hours just looking for MP4's, and found maybe 5. Most of which quickly escaped to santuaries after losing.)

  15. This is the second time you've referred to wins by a color ("grey" before). What are these colors?

You can get a win, and the page says it in gray script. So far has never counted towards wins in my ratio. And it can appear as "Victorious" in green, and counts towards the ratio.

  16. Hmm.. I like the idea. Saves the hassle of finding other players to attack (saves AP). Sometimes when I go to crowded places there are no players with the same MP level as me.

Exactly. That's why I would like a feature like that. Yesterday I spent all my AP just in finding the same MP level.

  17. I like the idea that you can kind of see how many people are at each ocation, but what about adding the effect of colours per mind power? For example MP3 is blue, MP4 green, MP5 red etc.

It would especially help when you are trying to fight and just can't find anyone of your own level. Which seems to happen to me a lot lately.
