  1. You will notice that I included the parenthetical note "If you intended it at all."

What I mean is that without attempting suspense, your story is worse than it would have been had you consciously attempted it. I gave you the benefit of the doubt.

But obviously, any story you write is up to the reader's subjective perspective to determine the subject matter and worth. So really an opinion is just that, and to criticize an opinion is quite impossible. You can't tell me my interpretation was any less valuable or worthwhile than your intention, because the very nature of literature relies on the equality of responses.

I agree that grading stories is ludicrous, but it must be done, and I've given my best attempt to be fair and just in my gradings. You may pick apart my critical perspective as a misunderstanding, but if you expect your message to ring loud and clear, perhaps you should spend more time talking to yourself. You are, after all, the only person that will see precisely what you meant your readers to see.

  2. "And about the language - its confound because you can't use different writing in the chat, its confound because poetry is what gets lost in translation,"

    Confound - a verb.
Confounding - adjective form of the verb. Dictionary.com - "to throw into increased confusion or disorder."

So when I say, "The suspense was undermined by the constant pauses and confounding language," I do not mean that I could not understand your story, or that I felt that you were inserting an artistic film that gave texture to your writing. I mean that the intended (if you intended it at all) suspense, which is an emotion best served raw, didn't happen for me because of the reasons I listed.

And for the record, if you are to repeat a word that a critic uses, it's important to use it correctly to show that you have a grasp of what the critic said in the first place.

  3. The best advertising for MD I've noticed is that which takes place about a day before an event. If it's any longer than that, people tend to forget the exact date, myself included. I'm running one of them and I forget the exact time. But I guarantee I won't forget once it's less than 24 hours away.

  4. At this point, I agree with Chewett's previous assertion than any retroactive memorial would be a sensationalized account of the respective veteran's life. There is no way to keep embellishments out of writing, but the further back in time a veteran's prime, the more fiction seems to dominates.

If the memorial project were to be continued, and this is coming from the author wrote the majority of the memorials, only very recent veterans or currently alive people should be canonized. At least then fact may have a fighting chance.

I am unsure. This is a momentous occasion, as very rarely do veterans such as Renavoid leave from this world. The time of this event can not be moved or waivered due to trying to make availability for the kings and players who knew Ren well. If this interferes with story time my apologies and perhaps it can be moved a little to work with this schedule.

"Very rarely"? Let me just say - Renavoid has left MD a few times. He thought he was leaving when he originally crashed his ship into the House of Liquid Dust, and declared himself dead, and then alive again when he came back. He's not alone: Wodin declared himself dead as have BigC, Khalazdad, Lifeline, BlackThorn and a whole host of people. Veterans fall out of the game often, and nearly just as often they come back.

  6. What is good?

Beauty, truth, honesty are the classic answers, but the words have become perverted over time and lack the purity they once embodied. What else is good - lack of apathy.

What is your best physical attribute?
    Eyes.

What is your best non-physical attribute?
    Eyes.

    What do you value most?
My thoughts. If I lost those I'd be dead. Pardon the horrendous pun.

    What is 2 + 2?
Fish, 4, a double date, or a horribly overused question (3 + 3 is the poor sister question, but no one ever asks).

    What do you know?
I think therefore I at least exist in my head. So do you.

  7. A friendly reminder: do not carve into me. If you want to do anything to me - borrow a branch, a leaf, or a piece of bark, you absolutely must ask. I can't believe I have to post a board about this at all, but seeing as I bear the mark "Manda Rules!" now, I find it necessary to send out a warning.

It is also a worse deed than you might imagine. When I was transformed into a tree, my memories became the wood and my brain was decentralized. Lose a branch, lose a memory. Get carved into, lose memory.

That's all. I'll go back to trying to regrow wood over my new mark.

  8. The time has come for the stories to be read to me. So far, the majority of people who have posted here have succeeded in doing just that, with Malaikat Mut and Aysun still to go. The deadline for reading to me is two weeks from today.

In addition, if you write a story between now and then, you may still read it to me and you will be considered for the reward. This quest is more about literary skill than deadlines - I trust that you can follow directions, there is no need to test that.

The reward will be given to who I think had the best story. Yes this is subjective, but keep in mind it's a personal item that should be passed down according to the rules of the original owner (namely, me).

  9. This is due to the source not existing (http://md-archives.com/content_images/27/boc_onager_trans.GIF)

In the transfer from one website to Inspire, a few things got lost. This appears to be one of them.

Since the author is gone, there is not much to be done.

  10. You are suggesting automation, but you've made it clear that an automated bump to mp5 is not the best of choices. There are people like you, Zleiphneir, and others that remain at mp4 and are a nuisance to nobody.

So then there are two options to make this a human decided thing:

    1. Have a few people designated with the power to bump people up to mp5.
    2. Have a vote-like choice either on a player's details or after a battle with the player. Essentially, it will say, "Should this player be mp4/mp3" and if the ratio between yes and no is too high, that person moves up.

    Awi

PS: my personal opinion is that the second would solve many things, especially if the vote came after being attacked by a player. This would allow people who never attack to stay at mp4 forever, since nobody could vote them yes or no.

  11. The question is though, did the player behind Burebista log into your account and vote? Or did you do it yourself?

You said right there that he logged into your account to get presents. That's already evidence that some of this "logging in to help" has been happening. Based on that, it seems a tad likely that he logged into both his and your accounts to vote.

  12. 3. Return a moonstone that I stole from a girl as a 7 year old.
why not: I'm not sure where the rock is in the house, it would be hard to find her.
why yes: it's achievable because with a week of searching I could probably find it (I hid it away). I would have to travel to get it though.
why: it's the first thing I ever felt guilty for in my entire life - the first time I've done something that I realized later was wrong. A mark in my moral development. I wanted to return it at the time, but didn't find a way.

continuing your analogy for Mur being mother and us being children, perhaps Aysun stated that she would prefer if the system in the game was set like we're 'fresh adults' who are supposed to make their own way in life, and not 'kids' that easily come into the situation to 'whine' cause "mum likes older brother more than me".
    [/quote]

If everyone acted like one, then this would be a game of fresh adults. We set the tone.

    An aside:

Being able to see other people's answers might influence the drawings of others. I know it shouldn't, but often times it will. Also, if someone finds the "jackpot" symbol, a lot of other people's intuition is going to be perked by that symbol, whether or not they realize it. Having this be a blind drawing WOULD be better, but doing it this way is almost more interesting.
