  1. Pay close attention, Rumi has hit the nail on the head:

"Who is "on high" anyway? I don't recall hearing too much from Mur."

When was the last time that Mur stepped in and stopped players from doing something that involved RP? It was the Lore debacle, which is also in my memory the only time he ever spoke out harshly against the actions of players in relation to roleplay and role creation. Why?

By my reasoning, he told us to disregard the Lore because we were all latching onto it as the one pure truth. Since it came directly from the game, or so it seemed, and not from the mind of any single player, we all took Lore too seriously. Whatever Mur says becomes law, and as a result of this, these days he says little at all. Perhaps for fear that we can't take his words with a grain of salt. If he says it, it must be. His posts are brimming with vagaries, things that have no solidity that we can hold onto. It allows for both sides to have something to argue with.

The Council has, to my knowledge, been a sidelined authoritative force. With no way to truly converse with them, they are a reactive but not proactive group.

So then, in the void of such "pure" powers of influence, we are left to our own devices; purposefully left without guidance, because it's more interesting to 'watch order evolve from chaos.' And that's precisely what's happened, and is happening.

The veterans have sway. We are the ones who can shoot down Quests and declare this or that as suitable, and this or that as unsuitable. But I think the problem is that the veterans do not approve anything - because we're not really sure if we have enough information to approve something. Disproving is easy though - all you need is to find one fault, and with such a malleable world, it isn't too hard to twist the past and principles into any number of permutations that will allow for dissent.

Maybe I'm being wordy. When all the cards have fallen, the bottom line is that the veterans are apprehensive about allowing experimentation with older concepts such as Liquid Dust and Black Water. If I hardly understand them, how can I admit that a newer player does?

    There are two break points:
    1. The veterans start being more flexible and active. This, I believe, is what Rumi would see as the solution.
    2. The newer, more ambitious, players start to create rather than recycle ideas. Burns, I think this is just a restatement of your argument.

I'd be more than willing to compromise on the first if I saw the second taking place. As always, I speak for myself.

PS: I claim no responsibility for convincing Mya and Sasha not to use the Liquid Dust and Black Water, but I did write to Mya to tell her that I didn't think it was a good idea.

  2. I speak for myself (and if other group members feel that the research is worthy, they will send you an invite), but I would like to see your research head away from questions like "who created the underground?" and toward things like, "what are the connections, meanings of the underground?" I think the myth questions are unsolvable.

Later note: Kets approves of your research, and is sending you an invite.

  3. I will answer with examples:

If your K doc is about like McDonalds or horse-riding, I am going to say no.

If your K doc is about philosophy, sociology, or other topics that COULD be applied to the people or places in MD (symbolism, etc.) then the answer is likely yes.

It would be judged on a case to case basis, but as long as it focuses less on real-life subjects and more into general or metaphysical concepts it should be fine. Just be careful of too many direct references to real-life things that don't carry over into MD. I wouldn't want to see B.F. Skinner mentioned, but you could certainly mention his theories and ideas.

  4. I was hoping that Asterdai would handle the rest of this, but I have no idea where he went!

My favorite avatar, and the avatar that I would choose if I had gold and silver to buy it and credits to upload it, would be the one that Kay drew.

There were many others that I liked, in fact, all. The idea of creating a tree out of words was imaginative, xrieg, and I wish it had come together a bit more elegantly.

So... I'm not sure where we go from here. Wait for Asterdai to come back? Feel free to contact me, Kay, if there is something else I can do without the support of Asterdai.

  5. The Appendixes are going through a stage of increased publicity. They've sat dormant long enough.

If you would like to join all you need to do is post the K doc you would like to be included in the collection here. All incoming docs are required to be public.

  6. What I mean by "matter" is actually exist.

Imagine that we are a closed system wrapped in another closed system. We have no idea that the other system exists, and in fact we'd say it doesn't exist.

Open the gate, and suddenly it does, but now we lose the perfection and infinite energy of our own system. This is sort of what I meant.

  7. This "star" you're referring to - it's more than likely that each inner sun is inactive, still with that 4th point/gate open.

The central question is how to gain ignition. It's a paradox: when access to infinite power is reached by the closing of the gate, the world outside the circle that mattered so much ceases to matter at all. If something is perfectly balanced, it is closed, and therefore disconnected from all things. Thus it vanishes, and in fact becomes a void itself.

Black holes - in a way they almost seem like perfections.

As for inner sun, it has to be an imperfect, chaotic balance between closed and opened. So the maximum amount of sun is one that switches back and forth with rapidity.

Into words - someone that can lead a dual life. Always flipping between their inner narrative and the outer narrative.

  8. This is a painfully technical answer, but geometrically you need two points to define a circle. Two points define a line, and a line segment and a center point define a circle.

You are right in thinking that all you need is a point to create a system, by returning back to the point eventually, but not a circle... unless you are drawing on a twisted surface that untwists the random searching for the point, or some sheer impressive probability. Both of which are I suppose possible?

  9. But this is not so- we need the sun to exist precisely as we are, but you could make the same argument about all things in the universe. EVERYTHING is as it must be to produce us exactly the way we are.

However - a sun is not necessary for what we might term as "life." Only a source of energy, which the sun conveniently is, but there are certainly other forms of energy.

On a more metaphorical level, there is a sun because we need life.

And we need life because we are alive.

  10. Sasha - I don't know where to put this because there are by my reckoning a good number of boards about this quest already.

I haven't the faintest idea of what it is you are trying to do with this quest, and I don't intend to find out, because from what I can see you are asking others to decide your fate, something I staunchly oppose. Accept what comes to you, but don't go asking death to come knocking on your door.

In any case, I'm exhausted of all the boards clogging up the forums. Could you PLEASE consolidate the boards, and then get your act together and organize this? I'm probably not the only one totally befuddled by it. It's more convoluted than a drunken Mur post.
