1. Hi Everyone

I was wondering if anyone would interested in swapping christmas cards this year. I know we used to do this before, and it was really lovely receiving cards from all over the world.

If anyone is keen, please inbox me so we can exchange addy's.  I've moved, so if anyone had my previous address it's no longer valid.

    XX

    Shar.

Okay, if Mur told Eon, dst, and Granos to go harasss someone until they have a nervous breakdown, then we have a problem.
I'll just paste the annoucement:
    Ann. 2172 - [2012-01-17 14:27:12 - Stage 11]
A "kingslayer" medal was awarded retroactively to the following players for classified missions of obvious nature :D. These include actions recent but also ancient events where pressure was put on certain leading characters to test their strength or find their breaking point: *dst*, Granos, Eon

    Enough said.

  6. You're missing the point Lib.
    1) It is not right to send someone to "test someone's breaking point" and then award them when they succeed. It encourages bullying and harassment.
    2) It is not right to perform "tests" on someone without their permission.

which leads me to point 3:
    3) If everyone else is doing something wrong, it doesn't automatically make it right. FYI Companies give you the option to check a box to decide whether they can send your information to be part of a marketing scheme.Facebook tells you that when you use whichever Application the information will be used. Its part of the terms and conditions. If you dont like the T's & C's you dont join. Simple.

If Mur designed MD because he was a philosophical student studying behavioural patterns in a controlled environment, that would be a different story; . But that is not the case, this is for his own benefits. And you can be assured that if any other game creator was behaving in the same way my reaction would be just the same. I play games to relax, not to be a pawn in somebody else's game.

Lol who is to say that Mur hasnt designed this as my own test? or your own test? This [...] is bizzare. I am done here.

  7. Ok; so because I have never been "tested" I should not voice an opinion? That's like saying because I have never been raped I should not raise my voice against it. Don't be stupid. Turning people into frogs in game is one thing, but performing tests or sending out people to find some one's mental breaking point is another From my stand point you are trying to trivialise harassment.

Do I need a degree for scouting the human mind in my own way for my own wisdom?

Actually the last time I checked yeah you do. There is a reason why all research proposals go through an ethics committee. The human mind is a complex thing. Without a degree specialising in it, you are actually playing a dangerous game; because according to me, you don't know what you are doing!

What proof do we have that you will not "harm" your subjects? If someone had a nervous breakdown due to your constant harassment, do you take responsibility for that? Are you willing you pay for the therapy?

According to what you are suggesting any one can write up any experiment, perform it on people and say " Im doing this for my own wisdom". Infact according to your reasoning I could walk up to your house set it on fire and say, "I'm just curious what would happen when a house burns down in Romania". [ FYI I AM NOT GOING TO BURN DOWN MUR’S HOUSE , I WAS USING IT AS AN ANALOGY]

My actions go no further from the characters you play and that character is as you pointed out a fraction of your true self.

A fraction is a part of a whole, anything from 0.1% to 99.9%, you do not know how much of that person's RL character has been poured into the MD character. Do not make assumptions that the fraction portrayed is a small number. Not everyone has the ability to keep the MD persona separate from the RL persona, and it does not make them lesser humans because they cant.

The really sad thing is that from all this it is you that have to learn the most, by 'you' i mean those 'tested'. I learned what i learned, but did you? Failing dramatically or experiencing unexpected turn of events in an online game is the perfect sandbox to learn something about yourself ad the people around you. If you prefer to shut yourself down and point the finger at my crazy experiments..i really wondered why and how you survived md so far
.

I am shocked by your attitude. You really think you are better than the rest of us an feel that the rest of us are all in need of some weird Mur education. Obviously you learnt what you learnt because you are the mastermind behind the experiment, but if those being tested didn't know they were being tested, how where they suppose to know they had to learn something?!?! Perhaps if what they learnt wasnt to your liking then they remain stupid and uneducated?

I have not shut myself down, infact if I had not said anything about this then you can say I have shut myself down.

Rights do not protect you from your own mind..sadly enough. You like to generalize and fit all this in the "crazy scientist" making experiments on "humans" category? Sounds so cool, thank you, but if you really want to understand what I said don't lose yourself in preconceptions.

Rights do not protect me from my own mind? Validate that statement with scholarly articles and the like. If you cannot, then that is a statement said by someone who would like to lull his test subjects into a false sense of security.

“Lose myself in preconceptions”....lets see.... If I am speaking from an ethical and scientific background then clearly I must be wrong because hey, Mur knows best.

Like I said previously you are gifted with programming skills amongst others, but it doesnt make you better than the rest of us. I respect you as the game creator, but rewarding people for harassment and bullying, playing mind games, na-uh that has taken it too far.

  8.
@Sharazhad, the breaking points are only in relation to the persons role. I constantly push and test CHARACTERS in key positions, in such ways that they will never notice or know it and hopefully when they less expect it. It has nothing to do with the person behind the character. My role in the realm is one of a demon and i play it fully. You think i crossed the line? I only redirected certain forces to certain purposes, things IN REALM against things IN REALM.
Why was it not "public"? First of all you have no idea what it is you are talking about that it was. Secondly it was not public because if the involved person would pass the test, the only possible reward for that person would be its own success. Thirdly, if you know you are tested you would not behave as you are and the 'test; would be influenced. Come on people, this is so obvious.
OMFG. If I ever had a reason to leave a game this is it. Tell me Mur, do you have a degree in Psychiatry? Psychology even? Where do you even get off "testing" people? What is your basis for this? What do you hope to achieve? Do really you see yourself as a scientist and we are your labrats?
You say that your "tests" have nothing to do with the person behind the character. I say you are mistaken. On the start up page you appeal the player to take a part of their own character and give it a name. Who are you testing then if not the player themselves?!

If you are going to be performing experiments on people, they should be able to decide for themselves whether or not they want to be part of this twisted scenario. I hope you realise that what you are doing (finding breaking points on your unknowing subjects or whatever other crazy experiments the MD populous is undergoing) is unethical and can be considered a violation of human rights.

How about you stop assuming things, Sharazhad. You don't know what happened. Stop making conclusions until you hear both sides of the story.
Seigheart, you have to understand when a public announcement is made people will react differently and from a simple layperson's point of view, this stinks of mindplaying, bullying, harrassement. Worst of all rewarded for. I am quite happy to hear the otherside of the story.... answers to Yrth's questions that he posted above.

  10. 0.o Chewy did you really just say that?!
That annoucement basically encourages online bullying and harrassement!! It sends out the message that Mur stands for that because he: 1) sent out people to on a "mission" to "test breaking points" and 2) he awarded people for it!

Why is Mur's judgement on this not questioned when this little "quest" clearly crossed boundaries? Have you forgotten that Mur is still human? The fact that he knows a sufficient amount of programming doesnt give him god-like status. He has no right to make such a twisted quest. I dont care if you ban me from MD, or throw me in jail for saying this but what Mur did was WRONG!!!!

If the purpose of this mission was to get rid of the kings, why not do something similar to festival of pain, or make a forum post about it. These tactics are underhanded and unethical.

    edited for typos

  11. @ McVitie: Read up, it appears that Eon's behaviour has been compared to far worse than Mugabe (..but Im not about to get into African Politics :P)
As I have said before, if you spend more time training than chatting, roleplaying and complaining (this goes for all of you) perhaps then you will be able to grind stats like he has managed. Unlike some players, Eon has not used bugs to raise his stats, he has used his brain, initiatives and money. if you cannot do the same then quit your whining. As for the SD? Well he can use it however he bloody well wants to. He earnt it as a prize for winning the BHC. So unless you have a problem with him winning the BHC, I would also stop complaining about that. There is a reason it is given as a reward, and it's not so that he can just admire the title and number.
Thirdly, do you not perhaps think he attacks you so many times, depletes resources and causes so much "harassment*" because of the amount of harassment he gets from others? Perhaps it is his way of getting his own back.
This whole attitude of "Quit whining and work harder" is very disappointing. One fails to realise that the people who play MD come from all walks of life and varying economic backgrounds tied together with various financial responsibilities. To say: " he has used his brain, initiatives and money. if you cannot do the same then quit your whining" is very myopic and stupid. I don't need to point out that not everyone is able to grind or spend the large sums of money that Eon has pumped into MD ergo this argument fails to hold water.

Eon gets harassment from who?! Does he own land that is constantly being depleted of it resources from other people? Does he own resources that people are taking and selling to others? Or are you talking about the needles? Intelligence and money, doesn't mean anything [to me] if you show general disrespect.

  12. Several posts moved from http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/10978-how-kings-should-have-handled-eon-issue/
    -Burns
I have to support mur it is up to the kings to use there powers as they see fit. However I have never had a problem with eon and I just don't see why people are so intently focused on him. I don't know if people feel threatened or just plain annoyed. If they are you can just hangout in the sanctuary for a while then leave later. Fighting is part of the game people.
@ Kamisha. The rest of us are so intently focused on Eon because we have nothing better to do, than to gang up on someone who clearly has oodles of respect for players and the game and demonstrates his/her respect by depleting resources, dishing out massive SD, stalking players, and shows common courtesy by general harassment. Surely you cannot be that pig-headed?!

If you took this kind of behaviour and placed it in the real world, how is this different to that if say, Robert Mugabe? and would you still be saying "I don't understand why the Zimbabweans were crying?! Surely Mugabe cant be that bad? Raping and pillaging a country is part of life people! If you don't like it just go to the UK for a bit and then come back to Zimbabwe when he leaves on business trips"

Yes fighting is part of the game, but it is not acceptable when the odds are stacked so highly in one persons favour, and do not give me all that jazz about MD not being fair. There is unfairness in MD when it comes to fighting such as the Heads Contest, and then there is this. If I were a new mp5 who worked hard on achieving my stats not by grinding only to have them squashed by a troll like Eon, I would never want to play this game again, especially when the developers appear to be nonchalant and doing nothing about it and then blame the players for the lack of action.

  13. ........ Right, I know I have been away for a long time. Im in Malawi, anyone who has been here knows what Im talking about.
I read Firsan's hot topic and now this... and this is my 2c:

MD is dying people... There is just a general lack of respect coming from all areas. Its a battle of egos!!! Everybody is stomping on everyone else to get to the top!!Bickering and fighting with each other will never solve anything. The system is failing, and I feel like we're behaving like rats on a sinking ship.
"i never appologized" ..maybe true..this is beacause appology is in my view a cowardly reaction aimed to save us from the effects of our mistakes.
Woah! Did I read that right?! Saying sorry does not let one of the hook!! If a mistake has been made there are still consequences to face. Is apologising a statement to say you are weak?! For me not apologising means one is too arrogant to care about the other person. Is caring about other people a sign that you are weak?! If that was the case it would mean everyone who working in sustainable development are pansies!!!
The most influencial leaders have never dictated but have mingled at grassroots level, e.g Ghandi or Nelson Mandela for that matter.
There is some truth to what Firs says, and I don't think he's just saying it to whine or whatever. I have the feeling that Firs is genuinely concerned, despite him being argumentative. This is a trend that continues, players grow concerned by the state of things- or the treatment they receive.. and the concerns tend not to be heard well due to how they present them.
Ditto! Whenever someone brings up a point of contention, everyone goes down of them like bag of bricks. "Oh they are being irrational!" "Oh! They just need to man up!!" "She's just pmsing!" and my personal favourite "They just love to whine!" Does anyone listen to the message that was being conveyed or are we the players in the game, supposed to sit back and accept EVERYTHING that is dished out to us?! I tip my hat to those who have the balls to stand up and say: "Hey we have had enough of this! I want change"

I have read on the forums that players have to "man up, quit whining and adapt". uhhh... here's adaptation for you. Right now in Malawi, there is no fuel, no forex, no electricity most of the time and often no running water. This is mostly due the the horrible government that is in power. I think some players within MD would quite like Malawians because they dont complain (mostly in fear of the government) and adapt. As a result of their adaptation Blackmarket fuel and forex, poverty and deforestation is on an alarming increase. Has no complaining and adaptation worked? NO! Instead Criminal activities are on the increase. Is that what you want? to favour the malicious? People want to feel like they are being heard!!!

Another player said the council takes time. Why?! Why does it take time to respond to an email? I don't see why it should. It just seems like inefficiency to me or perhaps council members want to see how much of an interest we show with the topic of concern by the number of emails sent! Maybe a rep from council can clear this up for me?

Burns you made reference to Noah. Yes God gave Noah the plans to build an ark, but this is the same God who sent hellfire and brimstone to Sodom and Gomorrah. He didnt send a kid with matches and oil to burn the city down. There is a time when players should do things for themselves, but times when those in charge should intervene.
God helps them who help themselves,
I havent been much out to other lands, those who know me know why, so I cant really speak for other kings. I can tell you this however. Firs looks after Loreroot and does a lot for the land, and looks after it the best he can given the limitations. Why shouldn't he get the help he asked for?

I still dont know why there is still so much animosity between some players and LR, all that shyte went down ages ago and I for one hate being called a tree-hugger or whiny Lorerootian just because the forest is the place that suits my character best! I ask you, how is that different to racism or sexism?!

Things need to change and the roots of the problem needs to be addressed. Treating the symptom does not treat the cause! Perhaps the kings and queen, the council and the other powers that be (Mur? Akasha? Dst? Grido? chewett? dunno who ever you are) need to sit down over a few bottles whiskey or whatever and sort out these huge problems like bullying; because honestly an anti bullying coallition is going to have as much of an effect as the anti abortionists have protesting outside a an abortion clinic. Thats pretty much the same of any "protection" group formed within MD, its really useless without an authoritative stamp of approval or the tools to deal out punishment for that matter.
