  1. I believe that a mechanism to filter the list of players would be useful. This comes in handy, especially when you want to "hit and run". It will also be very important, I think, as Magic Duel scales up and gets many more players. In some locations, the list is so enormous that I have to scroll up and down to see players full profiles and then click on the next player I wish to examine.

My recommendation would be an options button next to/above the list of players at the location that can allow you to set options to stop viewing players including, but not limited to:

    - Players who have been by in the last 8 minutes (Blacked Out)

That would just make it way too easy, and almost unfair.

    - Players who have been there in the last 24 hours (Grayed Out)

Not quite sure what you mean by that

    - Players who are in the same or an attackable MP range

Already exists. Pay attention to the little black dots. They are different for each MP stage.

    - Players who have enough creature vitality to be attacked

Well, you can just click on them.

    - Players who are Idle

Not sure why you would want to see that.

    - Players who are not idle

    They're generally orange.

    - Players with within your alliance

They have the little alliance avatars by their name

    - Players in another alliance

    Again, watch the avatars

    - Players who are unalligned

    No avatar.

    - Players connected to you via immediate Master connections (adepts of your own master, your master, your adepts)

    Mmmh. That might be interesting.

    - Players who have been chatting in the last x minutes. Maybe the time would be specifiable.

Chat time has been mentioned before if I recall. There was some scripting issue that decided against it in the end, if I recall correctly.

    - Players who have masters

    - Players who don't have masters (useful for adept hunting)

Well, if they are unhappy with their adept of you offer better rewards, they might just change.

    - Players with win - loss values that are higher than yours

Not sure what you mean here. What for?

    - Players with win - loss values that are lower than yours

    See above.

    - Players on your hit list

    Hit list?

    - Players on your buddy list

    That's a good idea.

    - Players that have attacked you recently (still stored in your battle log)

    Check your battle log?

    - Players you have attacked recently

Unless you attack hundreds in a few minutes, you should be able to remember.

    - Players you have PMed recently and vice versa

Wouldn't they be in your PM list?

The way I see it right now, these options would be set as preferences and saved. A long term enhancement would be to save the options as different preferences sets. For example "Hunting View" "Adept View". These would be user defined and would be selectable from a drop down so that a player could quickly view only the type of users he/she is interested in.

I think the feature and usability can grow very quickly. What do you all think? :)

  2. I think one big flaw in all of this is the attitude and view of things.

I am pretty sure that everyone understands that Manu is completely buried in work, but the position of "if you can't understand how much work I am doing and that I want to first implement this and this and this before fixing xyz" is exactly what annoys some (e.g. Me and apparently Glaistig and Lulu).

It is nice to have a game that evolves, but you cannot prioritize implementing new stuff to eradicating bugs.

One, you are doing things too fast. Sure it's cool to get new things constantly, but players are like spoiled kids. Give them too many presents too fast, and later on they are bored and very difficult to entertain. You have to hold them at bay, tease them, keep them coming for more.

Two, there is this horrible elitist attitude going on in this community towards new players. I am not pointing at specific people, but I have seen it at various instances. Whenever there were people with problems, complaints or criticism people either reacted with "if you don't like it, leave, we don't want people like you anyway" or "yes, it has been mentioned before, we are working on it".

The first, even though the community really MIGHT be that arrogant to want to weed out people they don't like and not bother with their opinion, this way also loses. I am not saying you should try to appeal to everyone, but if something has been mentioned several times but tons of new players (and probably also but veteran players who simply stopped bothering over time), there has to be something to it and maybe should be worth looking into.

The second, simply needs to be fixed. If it is something that seriously jumps into people's eye at a rate of at least one topic a day then it is something that in the long run will make people wonder what is being accomplished. It's like a toothache that doesn't really bother you enough to go to the dentist, but over time its steady pulsating drives you insane. You can't chew, brush your teeth and everything is just really annoying.

Three, you need people to grow, to attract more people. It's always better to have a well working game with no or few bugs and few features as opposed to a game full of bugs and issues and tons of features. People are happier with the first. In the second, what good are all these features if everyone has something going wrong, something that makes you wonder why it isn't being fixed.

Developing a game doesn't mean you first put in everything at once, and then you see what's wrong. You put in one or two things, see what's wrong, get rid of the bugs and work from there. Besides, once EVERYTHING is implemented, it will be so much more difficult to figure out what bugs cause what problem. And you'll have to go through it one by one again anyway, causing you to lose more time and unnecessary work.

  3. I'm having an Issue Viewing my Own Document... I have Cast it on Myself a couple of Times but the Spell Pages link still hasn't appeared to me :)

I think this Depends on the RPC in Question. Please be Aware that we Were informed of this Development at pretty much the same Time as everyone Else, and many RPCs are still Developing the Quests are Requirements to get the Doc.

Since I have a Low level Document I have a Small Puzzle up, that is my Requirement for the Document I hold. Please come Find me in the Game B)

"Pleaes know that inner magic does not refere to magic abilities in the game such as the "outer magic" part. Read the info on the magic page to better understand its purpose."

    They are not magic.

  4. principles should be things that govern wide areas not specific ones.

I read above, Chaos, Order, they seem right at the first view, but i am not sure if they dont collide with syntropy and entropy in a way. Also maybe to have a single principle combining the two, but i cant think of a name right now.

think that you dont invent principles, they ARE, so you try to better understand and it will all take shape in your mind. Its like an artist sees the artwork before its on paper and it just fills in the empty spots.

Chaos and Order to me look like Balance.

    Principle of Perception

    - Perception is truth. What you believe to be true may be false in the eyes of entities with more encompassing perception, but what you perceive is always your truth. How can you know that the theories you study in school are true if you've never tested it? How can you be sure that your memory has not been fabricated? How can you be sure that what you've not learned firsthand is real? How can you be sure that what you've learned firsthand is real?

    - Since any given instant of perception cannot be aware of itself, no one knows the whole truth. What matters then is not the whole truth, but the different truths that we conjecture. If we can manipulate perceptions, we are essentially manipulating someone's "truth".

Thanks. That's what I thought of when I wrote it.

  5. No, I don't think you understood what I meant. I don't consider it a wiki for information, more like the Archives. A place to put information in game in a nice, organized way and in context, easier to read and understand.

I don't see how that would spoil anything, because it is already happening on the forum. But on the wiki it would be organized and cleared up. Nothing else.

  6. I have Firefox 3.0.1 and I have the same issues. It comes and goes. It was fine when I started, then I got popups (I made a thread as well), then they disappeared and everything was peachy, and now, a few days ago, they re-appeared. So I don't really think it is cookie or Firefox or anything related. There needs to be something else. I didn't change my PC or anything.

  7. I like it, but maybe not make them AS often as written here. 2-3 times a day for every player is a lot, I would consider it more like a "unique" drop in WoW (too many wow references on my behalf today I think).

If it happens to one character out of all MD in a week or a few days that's enough, this character then could be wondering about what it means and make a post, similar to the story lines. That is, if he wants to share it will all of them. Maybe he just wants to talk to a few or keep it to himself.

  8. Why not just make a wiki like the WoWwiki? I know you are worried about spoilers, but I don't think that everyone is able to edit and change articles as they see fit. They need access, it's like an account. And there you can put all the histories and backgrounds and creature lores and what not that you like.

    [edit]

Ah, just saw this page and Glaistig's post. Somehow missed it. Well I can see the point, but then again, whether or not there will be things that can be considered spoilers is up to the creators. The people looking up the game will be people interested in this type of game. If they don't get spoilers they will understand. I see it more of a background of what the game and its world is, of what is going on and maybe a NICE way of reading the stories (each one has its own line, not all mixed together).

I still say it's better than the Wikipedia one. I would use the Wikipedia article more like a quick explanation and reference to the other one, where more can be read.

  9. OK, I kind of skipped over the rest of the posts because there was lots of repetition in the end, so if anyone already mentioned what I am about to say, sorry.

I think we should treat Wodins leaving the game as part of the game. It doesn't matter if the character in game or the character behind the screen decided to leave, things happen. Just integrate it into the story. Maybe he was called back to his plane for an emergency, maybe the opposing faction found a way to "unsummon" him, maybe whatever kept him on this plane was broken, I don't know.

Just take it and move on. Things change, the land changes and the game should change with it. If RPCs can be created, why not removed? People are killed off in movies and TV series all the time, even when they seemed important. It just makes the whole story more interesting.

  10. the docs will be given to rpcs and maybe a few other player to be given out as that rpc choses like manu said maybe simply out of friendship or a trade or you have to do a puzzle.

    and Gchick

    i think the

Inner magic docs are finaly public.

the word magic makes me think they may contain magic :P

    Rx

Pleaes know that inner magic does not refere to magic abilities in the game such as the "outer magic" part. Read the info on the magic page to better understand its purpose.

This was part of an announcement, which is why I asked. From that I understand that they are, in fact, not spells or magic abilities.

  11. I was asking about this too earlier when the update on mp6 came out. I don't think anyone understood me. I said that the requirements for mp6 were listed in bullets under the place which used to say something like "QUEST" and below: "UNDER CONSTRUCTION." I know that if the routes that end in chapter two didn't have that.

I think it could be that only people who have access to chapter 3 (and possibly only people who took a certain route in chapter 3, not sure) can go to mp6. The update also doesn't say that all mp5s would get to go to mp6.

So are there lots of "under construction" parts' I was under the impression that only parts of chapter 3 still weren't completed. Yet I just managed to stumble upon a path in chapter two which is not finished.

Is there a priority to whether or not chapter 2 or chapter three will be implemented first? Or random?

  12. Hmm.. we've been hearing some complaint about this recently. Don't know if it's a bug or not, but if it is, it only affects some people. This is what I wrote in the another topic (about energy bursts, but it still relates), just in case you didn't think about it:

I did, thank you. The timer was at 8 minutes still. I refreshed to make sure. In fact I KNOW I didn't get any vp cause I never manged to get enough to upgrade my creature, although I had clicked all (which should have given me more than enough).

    It's a bug. A rather annoying one.

  13. Normally clicking the free credits (the daily ones) gave me vitality and action points. Today I clicked some because I wanted to get vitality to upgrade a creature. Yet I never received the vitality or the action points.

    Any reason?

  14. http://magicduel.invisionzone.com//index.php?showtopic=1965

To refer to my thread and repeat what I said there:

Basically my points - or questions, if you will - at hand:

[1]Were the two attacks following the first authorized one, legitimate?

[2]RPCs, having a certain status in-game, should act with authority, responsibility and maturity in all cases (or are supposed to).

[3]RPCs should not abuse their powers for personal gain.

[4]There should be some kind of regulation of RPCs and their actions.

[5]How much should a player be "punished" by leading with such a high score in the contest?

(I am referring to an incident between an RPC and a player. Read about it in the thread if you don't know which.)

If yes to 1, does that mean it is OK for an RPC to attack players from other MP levels solely based on their personal desires and decisions? Even though technically Ren's first two attacks were within game regulations, as decided by Shoeps, his original intent was not such. Only after complaints were voiced did he think to check if what he did was OK.

Also: Was it necessary to force him to log off? Would weakening him and leaving him to defend his heads in that state not have been enough? (It would have helped other people raise their score, instead of just diminishing his). And most importantly: When would Ren have stopped attacking? Was his intention to actually get him to log off, or was he merely taking advantage of the fact that he wanted to gain exp anyway?

Their status comes as a reward, but that doesn't mean that after attaining said status you can just do whatever you please. They should have clear outlines of what is acceptable behavior and what is not, even if only to pacify and soothe regular players who don't want to be the prey of unreasonable wrath or sheer greed.

    So, I ask you:

Should RPCs have regulations? Or should they be allowed to do whatever they want, having earned their positions as "gods"? Are they more authority figures that help regulate, develop the story and keep strays in check, or are they simply given powers and told to do what they please?

  15. Ummmm where did i state that i wanted ur sympathy. I am not standing here, saying 'Entertain me'. You stated "You might consider taking it upon yourself to add to the story. Start a guild of your own. Be a villain, or a martyr. Make enemies. Start a rumor. Tell lies. Say things you wish were true, and see if anybody else wishes the same thing. Do something interesting. The game's in alpha. It's up to us, as players, to bring something to the table" and I have stated, why should I have to. There is nothing wrong with me making this statement, how u have chosen to interpret it, is ur choice. The conversation that i was replying to was "placing the RPC avatars in certain locations like he did Wodin Ullr? The game world is pretty empty right now adding a few RPC characters around would add to the scenery ". So obviously i am not the only one who feels that something new would be nice.

And u have no idea of what i do or don't contribute to this game so that comment really made sense. A person does not have to be running around with their minions, character role playing to add anything worthwhile to this game'. I enjoy this game immensely hence i am on every day since i joined, but as i have previously stated, at this stage i am not interested in running around character roleplaying or joining any of the alliances until i know where my character in the story is going. If something interests me, i respond or ask a question hence my trolling of the forums. And as some people who have been playing this game for a long time, have a request of me, i am more than happy to oblige.

And my last comeback to u is.....MOOOOOOOOOOOO

I think that is his point, and what you missunderstood. He never said you HAD to participate, simply that if you felt so bored and out of the game, you have the option to do so and involve yourself. Noone ever said you had to, nor is anyone implying you should. It's your choice. Nothing else. Hence, if you want to be a cow, that's your choice. If you just want to troll the forum, that's you decision. You said all that, and noone is contradicting you. You are simply missunderstanding their comments.

i dont bully for one. i go by balance when attacking. number 2 i can't check my own fight logs after the fight is over never mind checking someone else's. You seem to think i have imaginary powers of being able to surf through peoples account, in which case if i did i would just check theirs creatures instead of checking fight logs. And this topic has obviously dragged out more than it should have, hence the joke.

You go by balance? Could you further explain that, please? Does that mean you only attack people who give positive honor? If that is the case, wouldn't that only push an already flawed and unbalanced system further down the drain?

  16. Bumb,

because I really consider this an important feature. More so that now in the dojos there are plenty of people not respecting the rules by attacking people without consent, but by the time the attacked realized, the attacker left.

We cannot be expected to chase after them and look for them all over Marind Bell to tell them not to do that. So to be able to create a new message, or at least to be able to message based on your fight log, would be a great addition and a big help.
