1. obviously, i didn't express myself clear enough when starting the topic...

Udgard is absolutely right, and i don't think that every role needs to be passed on, but seeing some RPC have unique abilities that aid players on their way to growing stronger (like giving away drachorns and the teleportation ability of simply), i think that those FUNCTIONS should live on even when/if they ever stop playing.

Of course the role should be unique, else you could just give the password of smartalek or morgana to anyone who seems appropriate for that kind of 'power'!! I never had the intention to make dragonrider a new smartalek, for example, but i think the abilities of the drachorn master should not be lost forever if RJ decides to stop playing, so there should be some way of getting a new player (maybe with a similar role (cryxus-simply) or a player with a totally different style of playing a role that includes similar abilities (RJ-Braiton)) the same abilities, or maybe a slightly changed ability, like the mutated drachorns of Braiton.

I don't want ROLES to survive or to be passed on because that wouldn't work anyway, but i think the FUNCTION shouldn't vanish...and not every RPC has such a function, like MB and Raven, if they vanished, the game would lose some fun, but no special ability^^

And who would even want a new Bunny? The one we have to endure now is enough for a lifetime of mental disturbance anyway... =P

2. that's an interesting idea awi, but it's far from what abbadun suggested...
but it sounds like a great idea to get new creatures into the game, maybe that should be combined with the idea about the 'legendary creatures' for each land^^
obviously, each player could only be master of one creature, so there could even be critters that easier available and such that are really tough to get...
i like the new idea as much as i like the old one, but that new is much easier to implement imo =D

3. i'm an awful journalist myself, but i can help you gathering information and maybe even improve my skills on the field of writing whilst helping you^^
And i know what is spoilerish and what isn't, so for that matter i would gladly help you, maybe as with a gossip column from willows...
sometimes, there' really funny stuff happening in chat, and readers at willow's sometimes know what's going to happen in the future before others do =)

4. again, i have to give in that i like -6's imaginative personality^^

i was not thinking about just making dragonrider a new smartalek, to stick to the (obviously well chosen) example, he has come WAY after smart stopped playing actively...
but, as there was a story about RJ, there could be a new story about dragonrider =D (to those who don't know, looong looong ago, the AL started with page ONE (believe it or not, it's the truth xD), to see the whole story of the drachorn breeder smartalek, visit pages 3-90^^)

in less than 3 weeks (it took smart only 18 days), we could have a whole new character created... maybe we could even let him find some of the old papers smarty left behind, that would give the AL a nice turn and make the new people read it from the start to know what happened to alek, akasha and bigC back then :)

again, same goes for other RPCs... if manu/we see the need to have that power in the game again, but the user who had it is lost, we could just take a user with a similar role who is addicted enough and create new RPCs by giving similar powers to the new user (principle of cyclicity) =D

i know that sounds stupid to those few who know what happened back then in the ice age, but it doesn't need to be made the same way...there can always be new developments and turns in everything, but for me as a guy with the imaginational talent of a tea spoon it's easier to think through things someone else already imagined again instead of bringing up new ideas myself LOL

EDIT: as this incident, if we ever happen to stumble across one like in the example i just gave, would lead to a massive change in roleplay with hundreds of people making roles simliar to those already existing, ther would be a great choice if there is a new roleplayer needed once in a while... and others would still pull their own thing off and maybe get 'fresh' RPCs
I'm not sure whether players as un-imaginative as me should really have a chance of getting an RPC, but even i could make an eloquent role around the fact that i am giving away drachorns ROFL

and others have their fun without running the relatively high chance of having their role stolen by someone who then earns the honor for another players idea (thinking about all the werewolves and hobby-astronomists and whatever comes up once a role gets popular because a good and active player plays it...)

5. it doesn't, but smartalek is a great example because he has a kind of 'obviously-game-influencing-power' with the whole drachorns thing...most other rpc's are more or less pulling the strings from behind the scences, and therefore don't jump to the eye of non-pros here^^

here is just about GG creatures, and Drachorns are amongst them =D

6. but it doesn't seem right in that way, at least not for me...
let's say smartalek loses the interest in MD (i took him because that's not very likely to ever happen^^), then there we have an inactive drachorn master...
what should then happen to the drachorns? would they vanish? would smarty pass be given to another player who shows more interest? would that work, as persons are very different in here?

imo, it seems better to demote smartalek from being the drachorn master and a new player should get that in addition to the role he is already playing, eg there is dragonrider who would surely love to be drachorn-master =D

and if smart ever comes back, he could ask mur whether he could have the job back, and if mur thinks that smart was doing better than dragonrider, smartalek gets the drachorn master once again

same for all the rpc's...most of the good roles are just given away by now (archivist, artist, warrior, bad guy, carrot...they are all occupied^^) but there are new peple out there who are doing great jobs with their roles and don't have the chance to break through because that special role is already taken (best example imo: cryxus(the pirate guy) vs. simplyzero(you know that one^^))

7. while typing about the drachorns in the GG creatures thread, i stopped to think about the RPC and how little of them i see around...

There are some really inactive RPC's by now (that was different when i started, i remember) and i don't know if they should stay in the RPC position forever...
now, i don't want to be an RPC because i officially DON'T roleplay, but it seems a bit unfair to the players who are really active and are trying really hard to roleplay and get some spells and stuff to enhance their role...
we keep telling them that there are already enough RPC, but if they never log in and play and do all the fancy RPC-stuff they should be doing(quests, mainly xD)...

besides, i need new quests that send me all around the map, finding people, places and stuff, and the new 'everything is a hidden trigger' thing mur implemented a few days ago seems to be THE chance for new RPC's to show what they really got behind all the talking^^

now i want to hear what you have to say about that matter, and you doesn't include n00bs who want powers without doing something for it...neither do i want to hear something like 'i want to be an RPC' by any PWR or other roleplayers...

with that said, what do you think? =)

8. what happend to drachorns? they actually come from golemus, don't they?
i understand that not everyone should have one, but once upon a time (at least it feels like that), smartalek stopped playing and the quests for drachorn eggs with him... are they now completely vanished, or are they still there and waiting for a new master? or is there already a new master, and i'm too stupid to find the quest? xD

9. but sending it out as ingame-message would take a huge amount of server space, and sending them out to the out-game e-mail seems a bit...strange...
facing the fact that most of us use spam-mails for signing up to games for safety reasons, i think some wouldn't even find the cool paper between all the crap flooding in all the time...

10. Just...great...
the slideshow on the left side...the screens from king mur himself...everything is just great^^

ps: the .:HOME:. button bugs me a bit...it doesn't fit with all the other artwork on the page... maybe a simple shade of grey - brown would fit better than violet...and another font, maybe Book Antiqua, or Century Gothic^^
plus, it should be either on every page or on none (i'd prefer on none, the navigation on top is cool enough)

but that's just me searching for hair in the soup =) it's still great^^

11. what about seeing the newspaper as advanced AL?
i'm sure you (myrrh, i naturally assume you are editor in chief^^) could find loads of reporters writing about events for you, both what really happens and they have witnessed AND (much cooler) all sorts of pieces that improve people's personal role^^

the really hard work for you would be coordinating your permanent reporters and choosing which (amateur-) article should come out first, because you will be flooded with pieces if the idea comes out =D

maybe manu could even make a new part of the 'right side'( where rpc list and AL are now) with the 'MD post' or whatever you want to call it

12. no, there are no special creatures you get for being in an ally x(

if you have read closely, GG-members can't enter GG freely...

by being in an ally, you gain a homeland and house bonus on your stats, homeland bonus being constant and house bonus altering with the number of other ally-members online (eg if 4 members are online, you get 8% of the max house bonus)

yes, we can fight other players normally (8 min on normal players, 1 hour on other allies), and we gain loyalty from winning against other ally-members and lose some loyalty for losing against other ally-members^^

cons: there are none =D
except that you lose loyalty, and that you will be asked all sorts of stupid questions by n00bs because they think you are a god-like being...if none of these two things bug you, there are really no cons :P

13. dst, you can't see it because you are in an ally ;-)
neither can i, for that matter... but hey, who cares for honor, the system tells you once you go under -500, and as long as that doesn't happen, why should i mind my honor? there's nothing you can gain from having high honor anyway =D

14. i'd love it if the honor system was gone for good, there was a lot of clamoring about it...now ppl will have to find a new feature that bugs them, i wonder what's going to be the next^^

another question: why sheath? i don't get it...
can anyone explain me what's meant with that? giving up includes sheathing one's sword, i know that much, but i don't get how it fits with the new way to say win, which is sword... the winner gives the loser the deadly blow with the SWORD while the loser is holding his SHEATH up to sheath his sword as gesture of retreating? or does he block the blow with the sheath? why not with the sword?

please explain^^

15. burn means forever, the tmep-bans are imprisoning in a dream or a location nobody ever passes by, like jonn dealt with ledah once...
so i guess we will never see sotesf again

16. i started out of boredom...seriously, i'm not making fun of IAB here^^
last summer right after my finals, i just did not know what to do with all my time...i temporarily forgot what living meant because i had spent more than 6 weeks learning for the exams, so i started google-ing for browser-based rpgs that are running slow, not like WoW which consumes you totally for hours at a time, and there was MD... xD

i stayed because i was free to leave whenever i want to (paradox, ain't it? =D), nobody in here is dependent on the fact that i'm online and shoot something or heal someone or even talk about something... whenever i feel the urge to do something else, i just leave, and whenever i have nothing better to do, i come back again, and it's always instant fun, that's why i love the game so much =)

17. Now, what do you think?

Official discussion for the latest change...oh, i have waited sooo long for te moment i can say that^^

Mods, if you find it appropriate to drag this topic to contests sub-forum, please do so, but i have posted it here because i want to know what people think about that special idea, NOT what they think about the Head Contest in general or how that rule f**ks their personal contest up, there's no need for another ranting forum...

PS: I wonder how many players will choose option two ;-)

18. i don't say it should be too easy, i'd even say it should be very hard, but i won't say that mp5 are better than mp3 when it comes to solving riddles, either ;-)
if the quest for the custom creature was to be a riddle, every user in the whole world has about the same chances of solving it, and if it's a battle-quest, mp5 would have greater chances for sure, but i'm sure a mp3 who knows what he's doing can defeat wodin and maybe even dst if they have a rit that may not change for the whole quest-thingy...
plus, i don't think it's fair to exclude the freshmen from the fun =P

19. it is, but i was thinking about mp3s here... personally, i would get myself a critter with regen multi and insane vitality^^
but if you give mp3 the opportunity to make any creature the want, it's going to be a stupid war machine, even when grasans are quite good for that, the will always need another one...

they just don't care for regeners, healers or steal life-critters, because the simple damage dealer is the one who decides the outcome of the fight in mp3, and if that damager has some init of about 10, it will kill three enemies with first strike, deciding the battles all alone...and taking the fun out of it...=(

20. there have been suggestions about leech spells, but that would give us the same picture as deleting the cap once and for all, because you could just go to the leech-master and ask for another reset...

i think it is not possible to make one attack work different for different mps...and if you make a new critter only mp5 can get, most players would be really pissed because SOME always manage to get all the creatures they want on mp3...i think i have even seen a lvl 4 drachorn on mp3 once O_o

plus, to tell the truth, there are only about 5 players with (more than one!!) fullgrown trees on mp4, and none on mp3 because they consume too many xp for max lvl anyway, and the player xp bug was cleansed for all mp lower than 5, so you run on a veeery low risk of losing all your precious xp^^

i know it's annyoing, even for veterans when they are trying to train one creature, but it's all we have atm...
