1. Page 327 [2008-11-07 00:07:28 - The Inner Sun - Bo.]
Bootes lifts the lid of the box, eager to discover what is inside. He pulls out a strange object and studies it for a moment. It is long and metallic with several sliding pins set at right angles to each other. He also notices there are letters on the pins. Bootes turns it over, slides a few of the pins back and forth, noticing how they lock in place. “Is… is it a Key?”

of course you are right shadow, i forgot all about the key in AL up to now, it obvious, bootes will have to slide all the pins that are not spelling the name he wants in because a lock won't turn if there are too many pins on the key...
then he'll just have to stick the key in and turn over, without turning while sticking it in deeper or while drawing it out^^
and i'm still sticking with the order that the riddles gives, even if your ideas are really eloquent on that point...

2. Quite good idea, Shadow, but we could also list them alphabetically, or in a timeline starting with Nov 10th, or in the order in which they got named...
i guess we should stick to the riddle because you have thousands of ways to order them (well, not thousands, but 120^^) once you stop sticking to the riddle.
AND, most riddles are solved without knowledge that is outside the riddle itself, and the latin names are just other names for words that are already there in the riddle, so i guess we have to stick to the order these words get mentioned in the riddle...but i can be mistaken here as well as you can... :P

3. i agree with awis suggestion, but as there are five locks to be opened, i guess the third lock would open to LIBRA, because between lupus and aries there's the word Balance written with caps, while all other words (except for the four already mentioned) are without caps.
so the correct keys are

Orion (the hunter)
Lupus (the wolf)
Libra (the balance)
Aries (the Ram)
Cetus (the Sea Monster)

and you could also get them by sticking the key in all the way and then drawing it out while turning the correct letters to the position, which is most probalby up, but knowing the system, Bootes can try all four directions on my idea plus four more for awi's suggestion of spelling backwards in no time, so that's no problem xD

btw: congrats awi, great idea^^

4. i voted YES
i think an ally of bored people could be fun, their ally chat would be a bit deserted, but hey, that's only their problem, and we could get easy wins from those bored people who are too lazy to set proper defs, so why not have that ally? xD
And IAB will keep on making useless and stupid polls and threads until he is finally back in game and has something else to do, so why not let him have his very own ally?

5. i loved the ideas so far, even though the picture riddle was really huge...
the riddle was old, yeah, but you're not supposed to google riddles, you should train your brain solving them =D
and sometimes the old riddles are simply the best^^
i wonder what's left to come...maybe a code like lady nelya used it in the first part of her quest back then, or a riddle like alche's that needs some creative solutions, or maybe a puzzle with numbers in the old "open the safe" fashion...
i hope you have some things left for bootes =D

6. it obviously comes up whenever the playerlist gets refreshed WHILE you are trying to attack someone. If you don't believe me, try this: you click on somebody's name so you have the normal choice "attack this player", and then you wait for, let's say a minute, i'm not sure how often the list gets actually refreshed, but in a min, it will be once at least for sure. If you click the (still normal) attack button after the refresh you'll get the ban message, even if the player is still here and attackable.

7. now, i guess i don't know the proper english words, but i'm very very sure that my answer is correct...
i've just googled the word for the last point, i think it should be "raze", and it can occur in desert lands, it means that a whole civilization can be destroyed in a single sand storm because of the polishing effect of sands at high speeds, the castle can be destructed completely and without trace within hours.

and i quite like the iron idea, but it seems a bit far to say the iron holds the lenses of the glasses...
and the idea about the swords seems not too bad, but you won't destroy a castle with swords, i'd rather say tools could be the iron things to help you...

still, i stick with sand, just because i've already heard that riddle hundreds of times and everyone says that the slution is sand =P

8. obviously, my english doesn't allow me to say what i want to say xD
i don't want to say that complex rules are bad and would make the mods unefficient, that's no problem as long as there are exceptions for emergency causes, it's much like a law system, you are not allowed to hurt the rules, but there are exceptions, like when you seeing someone threatening another person with a gun, you are absolutely allowed to break his arm to make sure the other person gets saved.

I wanted to say that all the rules you have written above need some exceptions and that it will take a looong time before they are ready to be implemented in the forum, and in that discussion period, some new minorities will come up and want to be noticed, and if every single position wants a rule that suits them best, we will be in troubles setting any rules at all.
So, we have either the way to set some rules in a monocratic fashion (meaning one person setting them and the others obeying) or in a democratic process (which is perferable, but will take longer and need loads more rules).
Now you can choose what is better: monocratic rules or democratic laws, and take in consideration,
1.)if you say monocratic now, we need to find out who suits the position of leader best, and even if i like all your ideas so far, i'd still vote for chewett, and as most others would do so too because he's doing a great job, not much would change, and
2.)if you say democratic, there will be the need of setting up numberous threads and discussing all the rules with everyone, and we will grow tired of bringing up the same points over and over again, and in the long run, the whole idea could be dropped because of frustration.

And i just thought that this points need to be clear for all the people reading this thread, because anyone can say "yep, that's good" or "no, maggot's rules are crap", but most of them won't stop to think and consider what each of your rules means and how they might need to be changed before they can really be laid down as rules.

i hope i managed to write my arguments in a way that can be understood even if you don't speak english as native tongue =D

9. i start liking maggot, that are some good points all over the forum^^

as you have said, those are two mini-societies. feel free to join whichever you want, or even start up your own if you want ( and find a way between attacking and not-attacking... ), but don't try to tell the other side what they should do! You are fully free to play according to the rules the dojo-society lives with or not, but the dojo-society is there, and it's a huge part of the users, and if you rebel against them you will have to take their revenge. compare it to a city and it's gangs: it would be the same if the dojo-community was a real small group, they would still claim the marble dale park to be their territory and try to keep aliens out of there by all means, and to them, those rules are absolutely "mandatory".
i guess you have read most of the posts here, so i guess you already know all the arguments that were brought into the discussion. mankind always claimed parts of the earth as "their land" and often fought huge wars to defend the things we believed in, and it's the same with the dojo. there are enough users to keep that society up and they will try doing so until every single one of them falls or Mur tells them to stop the dojo

and if the dojo really was about to become mandatory to all, there would be no use for punishments, would there?^^
we assume that there will always be rebels like STF, no matter whether they have a cause or not, and that's the only reason why the staff wants some stronger means of punishing offenders, because they are all afraid of STF, he could kill most of the players who are trying to enforce the dojo with absolutely no troubles, and i guess he would have full support of dst and No One just for the fun of it =D

10. i have the stange feeling you missunderstood me =D
i like all those values of equality and freedom of speech and i'm absolutely on your side about rules that need to be laid down to make sure that all mods act in "the same general way", not meaning that i want a faceless system, but neither do i wish to have a system in which different judges put totally different judgements on me like one of them telling me off and the other banning me for a week, to have both extremes here^^

i just wanted to make sure that the people reading your post don't jump from their seats and start typing that they want those rules at once, because even such a little bunch of 8 rules needs a whole lot of work to get implemented and exceptions here and there, and i'm pretty sure that those exceptions need a rather huge dicussion because we have very different positions here, on the one side you wanting to make sure that the mods have little to none rights except for those laid down in the rules, the mods who want you to see that they already act according to rules they made up but don't want to share so nobody comes around and tries to exploit the exceptions, and a large bunch of other positions everywhere between "give me mods rights because i can do it better :) " and "never mind mods, the forum works better without them!"

my whole post was not so much about destroying your idea, which is obviously great, it as more about showing the ignorants out there who rarely read the forums that your point just enlights one side of a greater issue.
i hope you forgive me if it sounds like i don't like and/or don't understand your idea, because i really think it has a valid point and needs to be taken into consideration =D

11. i'd suggest there are two ways of doing something: fast and bureaucratic.
if there's a spoiler that needs to be deleted, an offence angainst anyone that has to be edited or a topic that's going somewhat off-topicand needs to be closed, there shouldn't be any complex rules about it, there are enough people who would read and duplicate those things before the mods come around to clse them, but even more if the mods would first have to read through a huge book of rules whether they are allowed to close/edit/delete under exactly those circumstances or not.
BUT everybody can always send a pm to the mod who changed your post and ask him/her for reasons, or ask him/her to undo his/her actions, absolutely no problem there. mods will most likely answer within half an hour, and they (almost) never get angry about such pms^^
of course the idea of having a book of rules for the mods is a nice idea, but i think in "cases of emergency", those rules should provide exceptions so the mods can act rather than start reading those books.

And, to the rules, i suggest changing the rules according bans from 3 for spoiling and 5 for offtopic to 5 for spoiling and none for offtopic, this forum ahs a veery long life, and it's pretty hard never to tell spoilers because some of us take things for granted that others have no idea about, and some hints can be taken as spoilers by the mods and then, nobody would give any hints anymore =D
same for offtopic, bans are a too heavy threat, that would be like putting death penalty on someone for stealing a news paper, it seems just unfair

12. I rather think that Mur thought he might be able to change the behaviour of players with his gift, because being in balance is really useful and should therefore be something that a player should want. Maybe he thought the reason why so many players were out of balance was that they had troubles winning at all, and were thrown off balance without themself wanting it, and just didn't manage to get back to balance.
I myself don't understand why people rather choose to have too many losses, but i guess it's about not being attacked, which is quite useless, because if you don't want to be attacked, you can set defs that scare other people away or just log off.
The real trouble is of a totally other nature: there are players who stay in balance, but those (me amongst them) log out when they leave the computer, so they don't loose too many battles and get off balance accidentaly, so the chances of finding someone who gives you honor as long as you are in balance yourself are rather slim, and so you are in trouble when fighting because those few who are online all the time give loads of neg honor, but there's no way of getting all that honor back from people who are a bit over balanced.

To topic: I myself have no troubles even though i'm in balance most of the time, my counter is not frozen, if i stay idle at willow's for 3 hours i can get all the honor i want =P

13. I guess you mistake this with pokemon xD
all our creatures don't really exist as far as i get it, they are just spells that we can concentrate on and that consume our powers while fighting, that's the only way i can imagine loosing vitality when fighting, it's consumed by the concentration we need to keep our creature-spells there to defend us

That's also the reason why creatures use our stats to fight, they are only products of our mind and nothing more, so i guess if they have a soul or brains, it's our own and not "theirs"

so the creature's can't grow different ways for respecting them or for hating them, they just grow, and maybe, they could gain more stats if the player has one stat really high as bootes suggested, but i think that will bring problems with the damage-dealers, if i only imagine dst could make an archer that gets more damage for the attack he has himself... :P

14. no, it didn't attack and couldn't be attacked, it was just there and did nothing (except for existing =D)

it was as if it was already dead, but there was no line in the log saying "joker DIES", because it was already dead when the fight started...does this make any sense :P ?

as far as the battle log is concerned, the joker never got mentioned, and after all the other creatures were dead, his picture still smiled at me with its less-than-zero vitality xD

15. I know it's already been seen on players, but i think it's new when coming to creatures:
I just battled Dmik King and there was his joker with -62/1000 vitality xD
I've checked all the circumstances: Dmik had -2k vit at that time and played with 68% pray power, so i guess the joker had life when the battle started, but the energetic influence killed it, and it didn't do anything in combat, it was just there, never attacked and couldn't be attacked.
maybe that needs some further investigation... :P

16. you shouldn't attack idle players in the dojo, butmost of them don't bother even if you do^^
just don't beat up the noobs, they get a bit upset when attacked in the dojo... especially when losing all their creature ve

17. that's an old bug, if you need your regentimer for something (maybe you know what i'm talking about) it's better to refresh before using it, just to make sure you don't waste it^^
and it works the way it does, and the server would need loads more of chache if the timer was updated every second, so you'll just have to put up with it and remember that it's never correct unless you refresh the page

18. my system will make you even more jealous:
we can do straight out nothing through all the year, learn just enough to get a D- at the end of the year in the final "you are about to fail, but you get another chance" exam, and still you can go to any college you want as long as not more than 3 (in words: three!) teachers give you an F as last^^
i love living in a society with a slim number of college-graduates *yippie*

we don't even need to receive acceptance letters, we just go there and tell them we want to go to college, and they just ask whether our finals went good, no need to show any former exams or any presentation about how cool we are and how worthy we are of that place, just give them the A-level grades and they'll take you :P

19. but how does that work?
would there be a tickbox, and you choose "yes, i want to be killed in the dojo" or "no, no attack spamming for me"?
or would there be a message "incoming attack-do you want to fight?"??
both methods have fatal flaws, the first will make you un-attackable even if you want to heal with someone, and the second will make it impossible to attack idle players...

when you can tell us a method that's working, we'll see if we can find a script for it ;-)

20. About the old topic of english: There are things at hand that need to be done before spelling corrections, and as long as you know that it's earth and not wrath, everything is okay, ain't it? =P

To your new topic: Nobody closes out of arrogance here, but there is only so much spamming one topic can take, and when that limit is reached, it's time to close.
When a topic has been open for months and there are no productive posts anymore (as it was for the english topic), closing is necessary to make sure nobody misses really important posts.

And that special topic just gets on peoples nerves because it was absolutely clear that this was leading nowhere because Mur won't give away the source for spelling corrections xD
