    A few days ago I have been asked to make a quest for team yellow. As such I pieced together a quest (or rather the start of one) I had in my mind for a long time, but never got to making. The quest has been put together in a very short time, so please forgive any mistakes I made and feel free to send them to me using pms. Now without further ado;
     
     
     
    On the left step of the GoE you can find a man, busily working on some project that must be very interesting to the man for him to spend so much time on it. He does however appear to look up every so often with a troubled look on his face. Perhaps he is in need of some help?
     
    Use the keyword "helping" to start the quest.
     
     
     
     
    The quest will run for 3 weeks, until 23:59 on the 4the of October. Every player (one alt per player) who completes the quest before that time will receive a silver coin. Furthermore the top players who completes the quest with the lowest score will get an extra reward (to be announced)
     
    Scoring will be as follows:
    For the first puzzle every move after the minimum to finish will give you 1 point up to a maximum of 20
    For the second puzzle every wrong answer gives you 4 points, up to a maximum of 20
    For the third puzzle a wrong answer gives 2 points, and asking a hint will give you 1 point, up to a maximum of 20
     
    In case of a tie the player who took the least time from the moment they started till they finished will win the quest.

    While I have not talked to him very much, I know his puzzles were one of the reasons I stayed in MD.

    Sadly, there was low participation and I was slightly disappointed, as I spent quite some time making the quest and darky spent valuable time on the coding. Even from those who did participate, there were complaints that the quest is unfair and East citizens have an advantage. Well, this was all you guys had to do:
     
    1) Answer 833 to the orc for flying beans
    2) Search MB and Loreroot back exit path for fish heads
    3) Talk to the traveler at Wind's Game, then just go to statuehall door, and turn back and talk again for pixie dust!
     
    If you read exactly what each clicky said, you'd realize :)
     
    I tried my best to make it as fair as possible, and it saddens me that people did not see it so, and I will try to express it now. At least, from Ailith's survey (http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/15472-survey-to-help-future-quests/), I thought people wanted this kind of thing... but no, does the community want a quest that's a piece of cake with no challenges or difficulties? In that case, isn't every single quest unfair in some way? The definition of the word quest itself contains "long and arduous". People were free to prepare cake, tea or gather a few pickles before the quest started, since it was not immediate.
     
    At least in such clicky quests, it is possible to finish the task, even if its easier for some (though you could make it equally easy if you did something like prepare tea, rather than just sitting there and complaning). What about drawing quests for those (like me) who have zero drawing skills, or writing quests for those who cannot speak good english? Do you hear them complaning? :(
     
    I tried to be careful and though I'd done it fairly. Personally I thought this quest was quite easy, compared to the clicky quests I've seen in the past. I don't mind negative feedback at all, but come on, it has to have some logic or proper reasoning behind it...

    Hello! This is the first quest of a series of quests I'm planning, called The Mad Scientist!
     
    It is a clicky-adventure quest involving the player to go around the realm, not necessarily all lands. I will announce the magic words to start the quest here in this post, anytime between 19ST and 22ST on the 16th of August, but the quest will run till the 20th of August.
     
    Everyone who manages to complete the quest will get a certain reward (thanks to TK for sponsorship!) based on their final score in the quest, with the reward increasing as you increase your score. Completing each task scores one point. Also, I will award 1 gold to the first 3 people who complete the quest with 3 points (thats the maximum you can get). In other words, this quest is a race at first for an extra prize but everyone will win something on completion :)
     
    Remember:
    1) No alts from one person allowed
    2) Please give feedback when completed
    3) Have fun!

    Short summary of suggestions:
    Remove game intro text (pop up when starting) or at least remove time required to move on to the next step Reduce max visc at all gates or only GG and NC gate to 0 or remove the arrow at the aramory pointing towards GG when in tutorial mode. Reduce max visc in MB, MDA, the rest of MD in decreasing order of importance. For the community; make more mp3 alts.  
    Fairly long post with problems and suggestions below feel free to just read the suggestions and skim through the rest.
     
    Over the past few days I've been keeping an eye at the paper cabin and surroundings, and noticed that many new mp3s seem to get stuck halfway through the tutorial. What I'm going to suggest here are mostly quick fixes that should allow players to continue through more easily instead of any fundamental changes to the tutorial it self, as I know a lot of work is being done on that already.
     
    Therefore I'll follow the path of an mp3 and note down a few quick fixes for some of the main issues.
     
    1.
    Problem:
    The first point at which many mp3s appear to get stuck is the game intro. Whether it's the amount of spelling/grammar errors that turns most people off or it's simply it's length, I fear I do not know, but about over half the new players that join seem to never leave the Paper Cabin at all.
     
    Suggestion:
    As such I think it might be best to just completely remove it for the time being or at least remove the time required to move on to the next stage of the tutorial. Yes, there is some important information in there, but there is also a good deal of even more important information not in there.
     
    2.
    Problem:
    While reducing visc in No Man's Land is a good start a lot of new mp3s still seem to get stuck and leave. How? Most importantly, the Gate to GG which, as GG teritory, does still have normal visc and is a death trap for the unprepared mp3.
     
    Suggestion:
    So my suggestions, in order from in my opinion most to least desirable: Reduce max visc at all gates to 0, at the GG and NC gate to 0, or simply remove the arrow pointing towards it while in tutorial mode.
     
    3.
    Problem:
    Before I make this suggestion I would like to say that I'm one of the biggest fans of visc in MD, but there are some major problems with it. Most notably, curious mp3s who start exploring MD are heavily punished for doing so. A new mp3 can take 2 steps in max viscosity before running out of AP after which they have to wait a full regen timer in order to be able to move again. Simply to recruit an elemental egg and an archers when at the marble dale park and return costs about 12 * 30 + 40 = 400 AP. If we take off 100 AP we have to begin with we have 300 left. 300/30=10 regenerations 10*10 minutes each gives us a trip of 1 hour and 40 minutes. Similar amounts of time could be easily spend just wandering around, getting lost a few times and quitting MD.
    (6 steps to get there, 6 steps to get back and 40 ap for recruitment. 30 ap per step is a rough estimation of a normal cost in that area)
     
    Suggestion:
    Hence my following suggestion; At least lower max visc dramatically in MB, I would say up to max 10 at worse. Furthermore lower max visc in MDA (for similar reasons to the GG gate) and for most of MD in general.
     
    4.
    Problem:
    There are no mp3. The way MD works you can't really progress unless there are people of the same mind power, so no mp3s means no new mp3s.
     
    Suggestion:
    This one is for the community and may not be all that popular, but none the less I'll add it here for completeness and due to it's importance; Alts. Plain and simple, if there are a few more mp3 alts roaming around it would already be a lot more interesting for new mp3s to play.

    Couldn't we employ a similar system to that in GG with NPC's. This of course only at the MP3 levels (and maybe MP4). I'm not saying flood the system with what was done in GG but a steady trickle coming out of the house of liquid dust may work. We want them to fight people but when there are not enough people a supplement may be required.
