As an additional note to this:

Many of you know I value my privacy, MD has NEVER cared about who you personally and we have have punished people for using IRL information against others. This isnt just a matter of respect, we have rules for this. If you share someone elses private details, and they are unhappy you have done so, you will get punished.

Be careful with what you share. If it was an accident then we will be more lenient, but in many cases we cannot tell if you are lying or not, and it will go down as a black mark on your record.

Some of you will remember in the RPC day we had something like the personal logs now, which let you make comments about players. Its still there, and we still use it from time to time, you just cant see it.

We dont like doing this heavy handed stuff, but sometimes shaking people and reminding them that there are PEOPLE behind these characters, is important.

Menhir reacted to Muratus del Mur in Respect
Respect is an invisible factor that is highly important in your evolution in MD community.

Respect is earned not asked for or given as a gift...but you can fight to keep it.
There is no written rule to influence your evolution in md based on how you show your respect to older players, especially to those that dedicate countless hours of their lives to make things more enjoyable to all of you, however, it is obvious that if you fail to respect such people, things won't go to far or too good for you. I am talking here about many people, people that actively help extending MD, or do quests and events or earned their position if MD society over the years.

(eg:Recently someone was rejected from md for lack of respect, while others constantly fail to achieve things they might deserve simply because they don't realize the importance of respect and gratitude towards people that are far ahead of them.)

I am making this topic to raise some alarms about some things.

Some of you are stupid enough to think that if they avoid curse words and find subtle ways to mock or annoy someone, "it is fine". Please remember where you are. Here in MD the majority of people present _survived_ to be where they are. They are in general highly intelligent and/or dedicated. It is very likely that your attempts to offend someone in a "sneaky" way will cause more retaliation on the long run than a plain honest offense. IF YOU TRY TO OFFEND OTHERS THINKING NOBODY CAN SAY ANYTHING AGAINST SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU USED SMART WORDING, YOU INSULT THEIR INTELLIGENCE (me included).

You should respect other people in here regardless if you hate them or fight them. Try to understand this very well.

Since some of you are quite young and in RL they have probably little reasons to learn respect for other reasons except fear, i will enumerate a few other reasons that should be seen as reasons to respect someone. By respecting someone i mean you should be aware and appreciate several things, a few very important that some miss are:

    - their contribution to make MD more enjoyable, even if not announcing such things
    - the time they dedicate to actively participate in all the things/events/roles that keep md alive
    - their active days compared to yours (older players are here for more time and they survived longer than you)
    - them avoiding using their earned abilities to make your life miserable

MD is in full process of changing. With the new A25 tools many things will need to be run in fast-forward mode to compensate the lack of people. I will actively start to dismiss and avoid to include in this change people that give me a headache, fight eachother or cause other more valuable people to enjoy md less. You have plenty of time till then to adjust your behaviour and learn that you should respect other people regardless if you disagree or fight them or whatever.

Authority is directly related to respect. People given full or partial authority over a more or less bigger or smaller part of md, earned their position, and if you fail to respect them (again, regardless if you agree to them or not), you are basically telling me, and them, you can't integrate in this community.

I am shocked to see that some of you take so many things for granted and forget you are here on a private territory. For example, you are able to enjoy a nice quest, because someone put a lot of passion and effort in doing it nicely. You noticed the sponsorship goes to the winners not to the quest creator. You are able to play md because some are dedicating hours of their lives to do it, not for a salary, without any obligations, purely out of passion.

Offences, REGARDLES HOW SUBTLE, have no place here. There are countless other ways to manifest your antipathy towards others, other than disrespecting them. The lack of respect leads to lack of passion for making md better and more enjoyable, therefore, i consider it a threat to md evolution, and those that do it are the source of this threat, therefore, expandable.

Many years ago in md history i don't recall this to be a problem as it is now. Today, older players try not to react to such cases because THEY respect you those that don't respect them, but slowly everyone, including myself, realize that action needs to be take in order to impose respect and authority. It is risky to make it as a written rule, because it can be interpreted, but as i said, this factor will be taken into account when someone above you will decide if you should stagnate where you are or given some help (roles within the community, sponsorship to your quests, opportunity to make yourself more known, etc)

Things i personally consider a lack of respect:
    - talking to someone in charge (with development, with an event, with a quest, with any form of leadership, etc) as if they are obligated to do things they do for fun or for you
    - wasting someones time intentionately or as a joke
    - spreading false rumors about someone behind their back
    - using knowledge about some character personal RL as argument against them (whats out there is separated from what is in here)
    - (please add your own things you consider disrespectful in a reply)

I myself need to adjust my behaviour too, because a person that wants to be respected should also respect others...and as you know i am very arrogant sometimes, but i am working on it :p

That being said, be advised that my patience and tolerance to annoyingly rude people is getting lower and even if i won't take direct actions against them imediately, they will slowly be marginalized by the community and eventually kicked out if they continue to show they don't have a clue what respect means.

Irrelevant of who, why or whether it was or wasn't an accident, its fairly naff you didn't take to the game to resolve it and instead complained about it when actually its something to do in a world where I hear 'there's nothing to do its dead around here' all the time. If it was my storm, forum begging would annoy me and I'd probably just send a whole host of plagues in response, or it would just demotivate me from doing anything else. Are we so used to sitting on our butts that this is what it's come to?

We will be delaying this until we know about some more urgent matters. If push comes to shove we might need to change the format of this.

It will be run, the format depends on some stuff. We will know if we need to run the auction a specific way by this weekend.

Menhir reacted to Muratus del Mur in My impression about the 10th Anniversary
    Hello,
I would like to present you what i believe about this year's anniv...and most of all, tell you what this means for myself and for the future of MD. It will be probably a long read, but i hope it will be worth reading it. I will be very honest with you and this will make some angry, some dissapointed and some happy, but honesty is essential.

I have made some promises about daily meetings, that never happend, i must and will answer to that here.

    Why my absence
First of all, in the first days i had a flu, with fever, and i skipped anything computer related. But even so, my intention changed and I decided not to be present this anniversary, and also not tell anyone about this.

For me MD is like my baby, its the work of my life, the place where i put my thoughts, my time, my energy .. my soul.
The problem with MD for me is..sorry...WAS... that I started to had the feeling it is something that can not survive without me constantly pumping it up with energy...be it coding, new ideas, content, or simply just being there. This scared me a lot..so much that it started to affect my life and everything i do, work, personal life, everything.

It was years ago when i was alone in MD, doing everything you all managed to do now on your own, creating a dynamic and alive community, with absolutely wonderful people, people i would be honored to know in person each and every one of you, even those that annnoy me :P

For me, this anniv was the time for a personal review.

I tested many of you, its the way i am, i like to understand people not to judge them, and testing them makes them show a part of who and how they are, and that helps me understand a little bit about myself.

This time, i organized my biggest test ever
It was not a test for you (even if i will come to this aspect later because some of you where tested actually), but it was a test for myself. I believe it was the hardest test to 'plan', because its nearly impossible to play chess with yourself and not know what the 'opponent' thinks :)

You where me, and I was nobody. Mur did not exist for a breef moment in time, while its faith was decided by this anniv.  YOU and this anniv, made me pass this test, and i thank you ALL for this from all my heart.

The stake here was big, huge. If i failed...meaning if you failed..if you stagnated and just waited for a sign from me, or abandon plans, quests, events, and so on...i would have abandoned MD forever. If i was to win this test, I would have found again my power to put soul in it and change my view about it being a life drainer.

In ten days of total absence, my soul was tiny and hidden. I found myself refuge in various things, i drank a lot, i went out party with people i never met, i did wild wild things... it was like the last ten days of my life so i spent them as crazy as possible. I had fun. It was not a fun dedicated to md, it was a fun that a man does when he thinks he will "die" tomorow.

I was ready to fail this test, to see md fade away, to see the organizers crush, to see really huge characters lose their touch and passion, to see new and promising "noobs" give up..to see many bad things..and i knew if i saw them i would have jumped in and take over, and through that i would have voided my own personal test and maybe i get this chance again in an other ten years, so i stood away from md.

This was the most beautiful anniv EVER
Even if i was not there, i looked now over many things, reviewd many things, i still have to continue to LEARN from many things that happend during this anniv...but my honest impression, is that this anniv was fully in the spirit of MD and that even the fights and wrongly judged contests where still in md spirit. The well done parts were of course great, i don't even need to mention that :)
The not so well done parts i saw, where treated as i would have expected, in the good sense.

You notice i avoided naming anyone
This is because last time i tried to name someone, i realised how unfair it was for the rest of the people i didn't name in one of my posts :P Chew however is something else, (followed closley by BFH) he assumed this anniv to be what i once was, the pumping heart of md, while you where the brain and organs..or the other way around? idk, you get what i mean :)
He did so many things, totally independent from my help, even took over financial disputes, hosting issues, several things i was supposed to do, he did it all, and did not complain one second. He also had no clue i will be entirely missing this anniv...he was a bit upset i was not there to see the fun, but trust me, i wished i could do that too...but now you know why.
I am sad i couldn;t thank the council in such a way when they existed, but i will never forget their importance to md in those years.

It is interesting however to study now the differences of how MD is and how I would run MD ...its still for me to determine if this is the print of md having its own path, or because of a different leader, or because maybe i should bring md back to how i wish it to be...i don't know yet. but i will.

For example, i would have given rewards for anyone that was actually trying and almost succeeded...without punishing or ignoring significant tries. Others however took things a lot more serious, maybe because of little rewards available, or idk yet.

I THANK YOU ALL FOR THIS AMAZING EVENT AND FOR MANAGING TO KEEP OUR TRADITION TO REALLY PARTY ONE DAY FOR EACH YEAR. MD NOT ONLY MADE 10 YEARS NOW, BUT ITS ALSO MATURE

Maturity does not mean in this case stability, it means MD can remain md even with a major earth-quake shaking it.

------ you can stop reading here --------

    Notes:

I will investigate what happened this anniv better and this will determine several things for the future of MD:
    - The level of endurance required for someone to be given the liberty of authority, this will determine actual values and balance of requirements to get things
    - The reaction of emerging people when they pass their breaking point, this will determine where I can put my trust when releasing very powerful tools (A25)
    - The "death" symptoms of main figures in MD, and how to deal with them better...this will determine if we burn our bodies or we offer them a nice funeral or we embalm them and wait for them to ressurect :))
    - The dynamics of a group of very smart people and how this educates their inner strength

Several things are already clear for me:
    - MD will never dilute, will remain a training ground of extreme challenge even when its gates will be wide open with the new A25 game beginning that will let many idiots in, but not many will survive.
    - MD can and will survive even without myself, so i can rest in peace now, istead of resting in pieces
    - Swapping control or shared leadership is better than one leading person or group
    - MD is still the learning center of my life, and will educate many more characters for the years to come
    - I found my strenght again to build new atractors and to plan the biggest change in md gameplay and interface...because without it, the code coments i once placed years ago in some file would have become true and md would have died through stagnation (chew feel free to paste it if you find it again, this entire post is the answer to those two lines)

    Thank YOU

Why didn't you reveal some big SI/SOTIS/LotE/UG secret instead?. This is just wrong.

No, I don't want punishment, but I rarely become as disappointed as I currently am. You openly act against the value of a maze in MD.

edit: No, it cannot be justified by saying that "it was for the greater good because we really needed to know how people think of spoilers outside MD". Not at all. You could have taken anything else but you specifically chose the LABYRINTH MAP.

As stated earlier, I am thoroughly against spoilers because they reduce the value of knowledge in MD. I dare anyone to argue otherwise and justify spoilers. Private between friends is a different matter, but publicly?? For goodness' sake stop being temporarily selfish/impatient and see the long-term harm, people. I know the newer people don't understand why we are strict on spoilers, but at least the vets should know better.

Whoever is asking for the lifting of the spoiler rule, so that combat knowledge is freely available and they can have a look at creatures etc, are blind to the fact that others will take advantage of this situation and post more things than you can think at the moment (things that you will definitely not like, after which you will also post more stuff which they won't like and so on, creating a bloody mess).

I am a strong believer that if you are meant to know something in MD, you will definitely find a way to know it eventually if you try. In other words, if you're crying cause people aren't telling you secrets, then you simply don't deserve to know them yet.

But you're asking that hours of thought, conversation, ideas and effort should be wasted just because you're lazy? No way.

it pointless to discuss details abotu what sor tof crit it will be or how it will be and so on. I will see there on the spot what it will be.
If i do too many plans ahead they will end up forgotten, its better i just know the direction i want this to go, then when i will be working on it i will make it in the way i will consider it fits best. And as Menhir so nicely said "Love it or leave it!"

also, Please open the isse about the slots in an other topic if you believe this to be a major issue in md gameplay right now. thanks.

Not lucky? How about patience & dedication? If you use the voting system you will be able to get the needed credits.

What about trading? People do trade items or other things for credits, so you can compete in quests, win stuff and trade them for credits.

To clarify I try to give you an example how your words sound to me. I (Menhir) do no quests, never have and probably will not in the future, not my thing I can say. What does this mean to me and my gameplay in MD? I will get not many WP`s (some for achievements) and so a big part of MD is not open for me because of MY decision! Should I start complain now and demand that something should change or others should not have because I don´t have? I don´t think so.

I have the choice to leave MD because it´s not fitting to my needs or adjust if I like to stay. Love it or leave it!

So that same creature obtained by that player can't be given as quest reward by them?

Because donators aren't part of the group that comes with that issue, they don't have this problem because they are donors. That's why I talk only about voting. Moreover this wasn't just about creatures from THIS shop but about this types of creatures in general. I don't have anything against unreleased creats to show up in there, but creature such as anniversary is bad thing in my opinion.

This shows you either didn't fully read my post or didn't properly try to understand my point of view.

I explained, but you don't seem to care.

That's insulting. I want to collect creats and be a fighter, yet I only have 16 slots. I want to have each level of each creature too, but where the heck do I put them? Sorry that I ain't lucky as you to be able to spend money on game, but what ever.

Menhir reacted to Sasha Lilias in Top Spender Tickets
Umm...so your argument is? The creatures are going to players that have spent that money and will most likely have bought a load of creature slots? No one is forcing a creature on you, like you make it sound?

You also only talk about voting? Why? I think only about $10 of mine came from voting tbh... But either way, seeing as you need $400 to get any tickets...I'm pretty sure you would have enough to buy a few extra creature slots. No?

Now, as for your preaching on the 'sins of collecting', if you understood anything then you would understand that are those collectors that keep the economy going. They pay you for the creature they want, you then get coins (and get rid of a "rubbish creature" like Anni Imps) and then you can spend those coins to buy yourself a nice little OP creature to wipe everything out in one hit with no skill needed. It's a win/win. You're effectively "clearing up" the "useless collectables" by giving them to people who are going to keep them for themselves. Though again...how does what another person collect bother or have an effect on you? We aren't forcing you to have a load of creatures you don't want, we're actually taking them from you and giving you more room for the ones you do!

Now, to say you can't be a collector AND a fighter? Well I'm pretty sure Chew would disagree, he collects...and have you tried fighting him? Good luck.  :))

Have you not thought that people may like the art works? Quite a lot of collectors have one creature for each level of that creature. So three aramors, three pimps, etc. I mean....who are you to say what is and isn't worth collecting when everyone has different tastes? Just because it's useless to you, doesn't mean the same to others.

I honestly don't get what you're scared about though? Unfinished work? Server speed? What?

If people want to collect something, then that's up to them - not you.

    Honestly...

P.s Even more reason for it to be a "collectable" creature (not so much one to be used in fighting):

    Grido missed my point completely.

It's a problem for most players who fight and don't have enough slots. Many people don't fight in first place, then there are those who can spend lots of money for game or who have big veterancy so they already unlocked many slots with voting or quest credits. People who don't understand my argument in previous posts fall under this groups.

Why are slots problem for specific group of players?

Not counting unreleased creats there are like 50 types of creats according to CIDs. Player starts with 16 slots. There are 13 types of creats that are freely available for recruitment. 20 types overall that are easily obtainable. There are 20 slots per shop reset and you need to spend 30 or 35 creds in extra features specifically to get them which means 9 months of everyday voting (could be more), also opening up directly in features isn't the optimal start for combatants, best is to buy flat perma boosters first for 10 creds then get but in long run not buying creds forces you to go straight for slots because slots limit you in long run way more.

Player needs like 20 slots for specific creats in order to competitively do combat (to cover all most used ritual types/uses), cca 30 (plus minus 10 depending on time and effort planned to invest) more for growth of combat potential (grinding) from saccing.

By all this it's obvious that most of players can't be both competitive fighters and creature collectors at same time. Player with 16 slots can't even collect all of colorless creats. His combat effectiveness is zero if he has 1 creature of each type. He's very likely forced to beg for wins/heat.

Lets say a newb is around and gets lucky to win anni10 aramor. If he's really into combat and wants to become beast that means that creature will take up 1 of his 16 precious slots and won't provide anything useful for him in combat. This will hinder his growth amount drastically. This would result in big dilemma, either desperately sell creat and get something useful instead or keep it and be grind with hindered potential. One slot clogged up means 80k ve a year. When you have 16 slots, just how many can you afford for tree saccs? Barely any, which means he is probably hindered by 50% of his ve growth. On other hand if he goes sell it, he's facing likely issue of selling it for less than it's value and another problem is that anniversaries have fix amount of them issued. Meaning in future it's going to be more and more impossible to get it again.

In short. Creats being collectibles are problem because they take combat creat space and don't help you in combat, because of this they actually hurt you (if you fall under that specific player group who wants to be both collector and competative fighter but have less than 55 slots and are broke to donate).

Lastly, you can say that it's not a technically issue adding more creatures, especially not like those, yet 2 of those still lack their top two levels after 2 years. Meaning it doesn't matter if it's problem or not to do them, what matters is if it's priority to actually take time to do it. Obviously it wasn't.

I just don't understand why exclusive collectible creatures, from my point of view they come with downsides. On other hand if you put exclusive collectible items instead, they would still have all the benefit of such creatures and no downsides.

Combat wasn't touched in last 5 years, we keep getting told that stuff will be done to it after other priorities are solved but I don't think anything will happen. Devs will probably get insulted a lot now, but I actually expect that combat will ultimately share same fate with chapter 3. However, I'm glad what's happening with items at the moment so please keep working on that.

Those are my arguments why I think exclusive collectible creats are bad, thanks for reading.

I don't think "wealthy" should be included as it's quite a pretentious title. It's quite condescending to those that are unable to afford such luxuries - or perhaps I'm over thinking this?

However, I think the fact that you can get a 'Subscriber' medal (for paying $5-$50 a month), a 'Supporter' tag (by spending over $200 in total) and a spenders medal (by spending $1000+) gives plenty of 'achievements' for spending money already.

No WP's, you should not be able to buy them.

Rare creatures, 1 ticket per rare unreleased creature.

All tickets should be "flair" items, that have no impact on the game.

I wouldn't go as far as making a completely new creature available to top spenders...

We have already several rare/un-released creatures many people would be interested into.

Aside from rare creatures, other options could be:
    - RP items,
    - Creature power-up / merging,
    - Spells (regenerable casts),
    - Answers to specific questions (one per ticket).

I'd personally say no to Wish points and tags...

Rare crits. The rest can be found in the wish shop. And I don't want to see the "tickets" as an alternative of the wish shop.

Menhir reacted to Chewett in LHO Manager Position / Grido discussion
Firstly, thank you Rheaggy, dst and ary for your opinions. Good friendly feedback is always useful

I have been working with Grido since about Nov to resolve these LHO problems. I have been aware of them for a while and have had quite a few discussions with him as to what I think is wrong, and what we have been able to do. While initially they mainly focussed on negatives, we have been working on a number of areas that require improvement and what can be done. I have also been talking with a lot of MD'ers to try and work out what they think the issues are. Actually I have talked to some of you about this process I am going through, so some of you have known I have been working on this before. It has taken a bit of time because me and Grido have spent a lot of time planning and trying to work out what we should do. Now is a good time to bring it publicly.

    Communication

The first area we identified is communication between Grido (as the head LHO) and others. It appeared that there were a number of times when there were communication problems at various stages of LHO applications. While not unexpected to have some communication issues, it appeared that there was some confusion for people applying and such.

    Transparency

LHO sometimes seems to be veiled in a level of shadow and mist. Reasons why people were demoted/promoted generally are not as public as perhaps they should. While some demotions shouldn’t be too public (so as not to further publicly humiliate people) perhaps at least a posting should be made saying.

In addition to this, some feel Grido is not impartial. We know that no person can be truly impartial but we can try.  Adding transparency will hopefully improve the view of Grido being pretty good at impartiality.

    Idleness

Grido is indeed more inactive than usual. This cannot be helped currently and it is likely to get worse for the next period of time. Him agreeing to other work is a personal mistake and is something not related to LHO role. He has slowed in agreeing to do things (actively said no when I asked if he wanted to do legacy work) which I feel is a good sign.

    Training

Grido and I both agree that LHO probably needs some form of guide or training. We are looking to get someone, or a couple people, to help write this "guide" for LHO's. If prospective LHO's want to help write something like this.

    Replacement

There has been discussion of his replacement, but as he pointed out, there isnt too many people that can replace him. Therefore the solution most discussed was having a number of people perform his role, and have him mange these people. Then he can train them and get them doing good work. If he had time, he would be one of the more qualified candidates.

    Actionable Work

New MD Guide - Since Nov Grido and I have been planning a new LHO system to introduce them. This will include a guide, and some basic questions and answers, including a mentor system for new LHO's. http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/16401-lho-improvements-new-md-guide/

Recruitment Agent - Since Grido is really busy, and to reduce the number of PM's that people have to send him, having a new recruitment agent for LHO's will be a major boost. This will be the person who handles recruitment. They will send a persons name to grido for a final "yes/no" which will almost always be yes. http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/16402-lho-improvements-recruitment-agent/

Transparency - A lot of the LHO's and people I talked to discussed mentioned some uncertainty about actions that happened within the LHO's. Lets talk about how we can improve this situation. http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/16403-lho-improvements-transparency/

LHO Rules - A number of people have raised concerns about rules applying to LHO's, lets dig further! - http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/16400-lho-improvements-lho-rules/
