"Whaddya' mean they rotted!?" Tears are welling up in her deep brown eyes. I stoop down to pick Maya up and hold her. As I get close, she lets out a scream and kicks my arm. I sit down on the ground and rub my elbow as she runs crying across the garden toward the house. I look up and down the long raised bed. I can see visible brown and yellow blotches on every single sagging cantaloupe. Some of them are already getting dark green and white mold on them. I stand up and walk along the bed, examining them, stopping occasionally to touch one or pick one up. I hold up a big one that had looked especially promising just three weeks before. I squish the delicate rotten melon with just one hand and watch the pungent sweet ooze dripping out on the ground. There are little white worms too. I shake my head and smile. It seems like we play this game every year. I walk to the shed and grab an overturned wheelbarrow. Winter's chill fades away and the earth shows signs of life everywhere. The whole spring is before me and the possibilities are endless. As I slowly walk the back toward the bed, the wheelbarrow squeaks with every rotation, begging me for oil and attention. I blinked; it's getting hot and wildflowers have given way to tall grass. I need to get these seeds in the ground! I pick up a rotten cantaloupe and gently toss it into the wheelbarrow. Corn? melons? beans? okra? squash? tomatoes? I got a lot of work ahead of me. I smile as each cantaloupe hits with the wheelbarrow with an audible "squish". 60 days to harvest? 80 days? 120 days?...Whatever, just get them all in the ground. Squish! Squash! Squish! Every one is more delightful than the last. The whole garden in planted. Look at those gorgeous "Heart O' Gold"[sub]1[/sub] cantaloupes. So sweet, yet so delicate. Squish! Squash! Squish! Squash! I'm grinning and dancing now as I throw one rotten melon after onto the heap. The wheelbarrow is getting heavy. It's almost time for harvest and we've had this vacation planned all year. I laugh wildly and vigorously hurl the last melons into the wheelbarrow. It rains the whole time while we are gone... I lay there on the ground next to the tipped wheelbarrow, staring up at the blue sky with my mouth wide open. I try to catch my breath and all I can smell is the sweet rotten cantaloupe glop that covers half my shirt and pants. Suddenly, I'm staring up into familiar little brown eyes surrounded by a mass of curly brown hair. "Mommy, what are you doing??" I smile. "Making compost." "For next year's melons?" "Yes." I stand up and wipe the gooey melon from my shirt and pants. "Are you feeling better?" "Yeah." She smiles. "I love you mommy." "I love you too." We hug. "Let's go eat some ice cream." Side note: [sub]1[/sub]"Heart O' Gold" cantaloupes are a particular variety with an incredible sweet flavor and a very short harvest window. They are not generally commercially available outside of farmers' markets because they do not ship well. IMAGE - Cantaloupes growing out of a compost heap I do not have a scanner available to me before the quest deadline, so I took a photograph of my drawing (you can tell from the shadows). When I get back home after the new year, I will scan the drawing properly and upload it again. Thanks for the quest, Amoran.

Got a bunch of pimped grasans need to clear from inventory. Low age and heat. No reserve.

I think a TK headquarters in TB makes sense, and I don't think it needs to be so deep that it's a pain to get to. I think it might be cool if the treasury was a new locale accessible from 7_foundation_1 (essentially underneath the statue hall). It's easy to access and sort of applies the idea of "buried treasure". Just a thought.

I have noticed that the notebook has a limited capacity and whatever is at the bottom of pages disappears if you go over capacity. I keep a number of lines with no useful information at the bottom of each page, so that they begin to disappear before any content if I overload the pages.

Are the main lands reflected by the membership of the council?

The community garden received a donation of 8 raw glass for the greenhouse from Marvolo.

Rumi No Man's Land 394 Loyalty This was designed for black pencil on white paper. With no scanner available right now, a paintbrush program had to suffice. I intended a simple sigil, yet many elements came to me as the drawing took shape. Several donations have come in over the past few months that were not recorded until now. Amoran K Kol donated 3 lumber Phantom Orchid donated 53 lumber Passant the Weak donated 4 raw glass The Community Garden project is specifically seeking donations of lumber and glass for the purpose of constructing a toolshed and greenhouse. There will be other materials required for these projects, but these materials will be required in significant quantities. If anyone has these resources available and would like to donate them to the garden, they are most welcome. The current drive is toward lumber as the toolshed will probably be the first element of the community garden to be constructed. Once our toolshed is constructed, we can store the tools we'll need for all the earthworks, planting, and other parts of garden installation. Thanks everyone!

As a small side quest, I will award two silver coins from the garden treasury to anyone who writes a short essay in this research topic which accurately defines the relationship of pumpkins to Necrovion (no, it's not just symbolic). (Brulant is excluded from participating in this small side quest and he already knows why)

I am announcing the first artwork quest of the community garden project. A number of artists have offered to contribute to the community garden project, but as of yet the only contributed artwork has been the drawing of a single flower. (an excellent drawing by Marvolo, I might add) This artwork quest will require several pieces to be contributed, and the reward will be a wishpoint if the work meets my expectations. The goal of this first artwork quest is to bring to life the work of the previous design quest winner, Brulant, who designed the pond area of the garden. His work can be found at the bottom of the first page of the Community Garden Plant List: http://magicduel.inv...den-plant-list/ Completion of the artwork quest requires the following series of drawings: One drawing of each plant listed in Brulant's design A drawing of the windmill A drawing of the greenhouse A drawing of the aeration stream (including water-filtration plants) A drawing of the entire pond/greenhouse area, including all plants and elements (dimensional proportion should be the same as an MD scene) ALL ARTWORKS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN THE COMMUNITY GARDEN ARTWORK THREAD: http://magicduel.inv...garden-artwork/ Feel free to add new plants or elements if they come to you. Please look through the Community Garden Design thread to gain an understanding of the function of the various garden elements. http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/9566-community-garden-design/ All drawings must be black and white pencil in the relative style of MD. Bear in mind this entire area of the garden is representative of Marind Bell, and the use of MB symbolism is encouraged. Post your drawings as you finish each one. I may have comments, concerns, suggestions about each one. Some drawings may need to be tweaked to fit the design. Others may need to be redrawn. The deadline for a first drawing to be submitted is the final day of year 6 (12/31/2011). There is currently no deadline for the completion of this quest. If anyone wishes to sponsor this quest with lesser rewards, they will be given out for the individual drawings, with the wishpoint being given for the completed quest. I encourage everyone, including those with little artistic experience, to participate. Each area of the garden will undergo this kind of quest, and a little practice now may help you win a wishpoint later if you do not win now. Thanks for your important contribution and good luck!

It's been quite a while since the last bit of new work on the community garden, and I'd like to try to get the ball rolling again here. I have circulated this research/design map for a few months within a small circle of people and now I would like to open it up to the public. I originally thought it would be better for these connections to be implicit, but I realize that an explicit representation may be more valuable for helping people to understand the all-encompassing nature of the garden. For further details, please review the other garden topics, which enumerate specific plants and design concepts. The middle portion of the garden, which has not been assigned, is as of now considered community space in general. There is another version of this map which assigns some of those spaces to the east lands, MDA, and the underground, and I thought those divisions should be decided later, if at all. It should be noted that the compost has now been moved from the top of the forest garden (LR) to the central community section right beside to the toolshed. The hilltop above the forest garden will be adorned instead by an herb spiral, as suggested by Phantom Orchid during the previous design quest.

[cquote] We the council banned you again, for we saw you were outside jail. Mur did not tell us that he released you and since we were the ones who punished you, would have expected he would tell us when he deals with out sentencing. Thank you, MD Council [/cquote]

[cquote] There are several issues that we, the council would like to address. The first being the issue of Phantom accusing Grido of not passing on her problem with an individual. He did pass it on and this was passed onto Mur. There were some issues between Jester and Phantom, Both of who retaliated to each other, and therefore both were at fault. It was reviewed several times and decided that neither should receive punishment due to this reason. The full reasons and details cannot be explained due the public impact of some of the retaliation regarding Jester and Phantoms roles. Because alts were used as extensions to support same incident, any punishment applied to Jester will be applied to all his involved alts as well. The fact a reaction was delayed for so long is the pure fault of bad communication with Mur and passing around of a delicate matter with many unseen reasons. Neither council nor Grido considered they should interfere with applying a punishment that would have changed political structure (Jester) or rare roles (Phantom Orchid), therefore Mur alone was supposed to clear this situation, but didn't. Because this raised to a public complain, an action will be take before the day of "Day of absurdly blind justice". For future cases a strategy will be planned to handle similar incidents in a quicker manner. It is important to mention that Grido was not allowed to disclose any of the above reasons or say anything about why the matter is delayed. Also, it should be noted that Phantom has escaped jail using a spell which should have been blocked. She did not report this, and since this is another bug she has abused and not reported she will receive further punishment Jester will receive punishment for his role in this. An announcement with the final punishment shall be made public in a few days. Regarding Grido's public role. Grido is one of the very few individuals to have the ability to jail and unjail people. This ability is something that he has been trusted with by Mur, and therefore it carries some weight. Grido is also head of the LHO's and therefore he is allowed to deal with them as he feels fit. However if the community feels that he is not doing a good job, or that there is someone better than him, we shall look at possibly a change of leadership. During this last issue, we have been checking the in game and forum atmosphere in regards to Grido's role and the overwhelming consensus is that he is a good LHO leader. You should feel free to make public posts, regarding his role in the forum, using polls to indicate the general feel of his ability. But lets not create one every week or so, based on the same issues. The mods should close this post if arguments continue. Also, please be aware of the following: When reporting any issues between players the council will ONLY take into account details from within Magicduel's influence. That means anything outside of Magicduel's influence will not be considered as proof of an agreement or as proof of harassment. The likes of YIM, Gtalk, MSN, or any other social network outside of the control of Magicduel will not be considered. We ask that when you are logging a complaint to NOT include any of those sort of logs other than what is provided from the realm of MD. If you are having issue with players on the other systems you need to report that to they companies that run them. MD Council [/cquote]
