Gates (not Bill)

To build a reinforced gate, a land would require resources that it has acces to (lets call them ”specific”) and an amount of other resources, such as timeless dust, syntropic dust or other. To maintain the level of the gates, it would need a small amount of such specific resources per day(?)/week. However, when entering a foreign land, you would have to pay a ”specific” of your land. This way, in a land treasury would end up resources which are usually not available to it (for example, bones would end up in LR treasury or resin in GG treasury). This is the dynamism that I thought of - however, it would need a bit of restructuring of resource distribution and it would make shared items less useful desirable(?). There are many things that would have to be considered.

My idea was to break down the gates by sending a big amount of resources through them (the weakening thing), but Im sure there are better ideas. Feel free to indulge in this fantasy even more and come up with stuff :D

Gates (not Bill)

I am posting this because: 1) I am sure this will not be used as I imagined it (which is good) and 2) even though 1), it could create useful spinoffs.
The whole idea of reinforced gates, in my mind, served an RP purpouse more than any other. It is there to emphasize the idea of a ”gate”, with all the restrictions that come with it. At the same time, something like this might become a hindrance, a nuisance to players, so for me its a very delicate concept. it could go wrong for a number of reasons, but also good. By the way, the following contain highly disturbing ideas; if you suffer from ... anything, stop reading here. Before reading the announcement, I had about 2-3 days to think about how this could work, so what you read now is the process I imagined. I doubt of it now. As we have it right now, the way to stop people from entering a land (not only mainlands) is through AP limitations. You cant remove this system unless you want to make a major change. So, how can you combine the AP system and at the same time create variable difficulty in entering lands? The way I thought of it is by creating a guard. In other words, a clickie which serves the role of a guard (I leave the visuals to you). Lets take it step by step. Firstly, the reinforced gates have to be built. The materials have to come in large amounts (progressively). This has to be a community effort, where community is the land population. Where mats are scarce, they can be bought (tools rent, crits sold etc). GG would have something like an earth wall, created with the sand from the beaches of Golemus and huge amounts of water. NC could have a bone shield, made of bones and syntropic dust. Marind could have an orb made of water and timeless dust, while LR could have a thicket made of lumber and branches, resin and wiiya (?). What would be the purpouse of reinforcing the gates? Well, with each level, the cost to enter the land increases. It can increase in steady folds, like +100, or progressively - +50, +100, +150 etc. The numbers given are variables - lands that should be harder to enter can have higher values of AP. You will ask - then what is the point of change? NC has 666 already, wouldnt this be the same thing? It would simply give a chance to other lands to come to the same values as NC. Secondly, after the gates are reinforced (if they are - this is a ”cold war”), the guard will come in use. Basically, a player can choose to cross the gate at its maximum level, if he/she has the AP or to talk to the guard. Talking to the guard goes like this: you click on it, it asks you where you are from. You get a list of lands and choose which one you are a citizen of. If you are NC, you get to choose to pay. You pay a certain amount of a certain resource, which goes directly into the land treasury of the land you want to enter (when they will exist:P) and the AP cost is reset, only for you, until regeneration counter ends. Now, the resource is to be debated and agreed by ALL lands. At the same time, you get to choose how much of a resource you want to pay, thus choosing how many levels you want to go down. For instance, you only pay 3 wiiya to enter GG, which lowers the AP cost as if the gate was level 2 (levels are 1-5). If you pay 4 wiiya, the cost is reduced and you enter the gate as if the gate was level 1. After choosing to pay the resource, there should be alist showing you the values and you choose from 1 to 5 values. Here comes the cool part. You can lie and say you are a citizen of another land. If you say you are a citizen of LR (and you are NC) and choose to pay, you will pay the resource that a lorerootian would pay. There is a 50% chance you will be recognized and the punishment for that is...no res back, no entry and all VE lost. This is wrong, bribing guard sounds better. There are other issues, as well. MB, for example, has to be an open land to most newbs. In this respect, NML ”citizen” would have to pay no resources to enter the land, at minimum of AP cost. What happens when a NC disguises himself/herself and pretends to be a NML ”citizen”? Same as above, the guard may be sleepy and you will enter MB. Chance of success should be lower - 20% or lower. What else? Oh, gates have to be mainteined weekly or else they crumble. This means a weekly input of several resources. Also, they can be weakened by enemies. Suppose some hotshot comes with 1000 wiiya at the gates of MB and chooses to pay that amount (yes, this should be the 6th option added there). During the time that wiiya has to go to the land treasury, the gate will be wiiide open. This means that the gate will drop down one level. This comes in hand when at war. Another option (and this would remove land papers) would be ”enter by password”. Each day (week?) a minimum of 3 persons from a land will come up with a password (one comes up with it, 2 validate it). Citizen wouldnt need it, but an outsider can be told the pass and he/she can enter the land at minimum AP cost.
Now, why do I write this when Im sure it wont be used? As I said, maybe it will create some better ideas in someones head. P:S: I am not writing this, my ghost is. I am sound asleep in my bed:p

Ok, so as I was playing with the MD interface, digging for useless stuff to keep me from getting bored, I clicked the MD link to Facebook (I have no FB account, btw). And as I kept scrolling down, reading various updates, I stumbled across this http://magicduel.com/page/Announcement/view/2577, posted there as well. Now, I am respectfully asking myself - what the hell?? The idea that I thought it was 100% original was actually in the Ann. from last year ?? (I joined last year in December and although I read all the ann. afterwards, I read none of the ones posted before my joining date) ........................................................................................................................................................................................................ So, all thats left for me to do is to respectfully ask the mods to cut my post from http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/15761-powerful-land-items-and-abilities/page-3#entry155737 along with those commenting on it and paste it here and maybe I will develop what I thought was an original idea here. The second thing I wil have to do is start reading all announcements, from the beginning. -_-
6. And the winner is...Intrigue, with 26 points! Congratz! Intrigue is followed by Assira, with 23 points and AmberRune, with 21. (Change got 20 points) Thank you for participating, thanks to (all) the judges and DD for his offer. I will find you ingame. Until next one...
7. Once upon a god not again Chew stopped coding time and space, all was lost. Meanwhile Mur and BHF did nothing to stop the streams of fiery chicken shaped shade-demons, but instead both refined their grammar drinking sake allot with green elephants while twerking on the GoE steps, holding a huge chained wrecking ball. It exploded and the cube refolded. Chewett died horribly - STOP KILLING PEOPLE! Or I shall [kill you all - ]
8. Referring to MB only: cant we call an Angien? Around that being, our defense would be increased by folds (it could also respect the duration of a burst when out the scene) and death would be impossible (again, crazy idea). edit: land weapons: presence of the angien/shade/drachorn/treant (dont know what they would do)
9. I would like to know what it takes to get into the AL :D No, seriously, the last chapter of the AL is from 2013, at a 4 years diference from the previous one and it all happened because one day Maebius felt like killing all Death Guards. Sure, that kind of plan failed, but perhaps we can come up with better ones? :)
10. It does have some relashionship, but it is indeed different from what you propose. Its up to the mods.
11. What I thought of is not a very good idea, but for some reason it sounds cool to me. This whole thing would work in case of land wars. I was thinking of reinforced gates, going from 1 to 5 levels. Each level would need lots of resources to build (with some specific to each land) and daily/weekly input of resources for maintenance. If there is no daily/weekly input, the level of endurance goes down, making it easier for anyone to enter the land (lowering the AP cost?). Now, this is not meant to replace the AP cost, but to increase the security of the gates, as it should. (this is very raw, but...here it is)
12. It was a great reward and I went twice to the East for this quest...I stopped both times before the Hall of statues - 2 scenes take out all my AP and so...
13. I am incredibly bored, so I will post something :)
This whole thing started on a rotten..err..wonderful day of Tuesday, in the year of the Mur 9. (All participants in this are, as you can see, underage, so no foul language will be used. Nor complex concepts.) TheRichMerchant was strolling around in his land, which he joined like 3 days ago...err...quite some time now and decided to stop at Willow’s Shop. The shopkeeper was busy – all ITC went through them , even sticky goop or toxic gas. Busy or annoyed-who knows? Anyway, Rich convinced him to take a coffee break and started to ask questions about angiens. Not that the shopkeeper knew anything about it, but hey! it was Tuesday morning, the shop smelled like grasan ferment and...who needs all that gloomy talk about wars and deaths and whatever happens in MD in a normal day? The shopkeeper started talking about his wife and kids (yeah, Rich asked him about angiens) and TheRichMerchant realized life is boring. Oh, so boring! He also realized shopkeepers like this one are everywhere. Nobody cares if they die, nor if they live. None of them can ever talk honestly to you, or at least pretend to care. No honesty at all in this rotten world! Time to go to Princ and tell him the shopkeeper stole his silver in a transaction... At least the public execution will invigorate this day!

TheRichMerchant was in front of a tough decision – the toughest of this life. The closest tough decision to this one was probably today, when he had to choose between 30 more minutes of sleep and eating breakfast. Anyway, his decision was to choose an alliance he would join. Now, he read all about alliances and found that there is little profit in most of them, but this wasn’t about profit. It was about where you feel at home, at ease. Well, since there was no guild of merchants, TheRichMerchant felt at ease everywhere and nowhere (while mantaining some decency – after all, if you feel too much at ease...). So, he pondered upon it for a bit, then decided it’s best to flip a coin. Heads – join whatever alliance is desperate enough to accept him, tail – create his own. He did so, with one minor problem – he flipped it at MDP, close to the entrance of UG. And...a silver is a silver, if you lose it, go get it! And so he did, but while in the underground, he lost his AP. Also, it’s quite dark in there, so he couldn’t find his coin. ...When he finally emerged to light, he had to jump from rock to rock, losing his purse of gold, then go up a rope, losing his strength and talk to an obstinate shopkeeper, who said he owns him money, losing his breath...He rushed to MB, thinking he will immediately join KoB, then destroy UG for taking his precious money, join WD and suck all the water so he can find his money w/o getting wet and finally join SoE and kill all shopkeepers and loot all their stuff. ...Richy takes a break in a mental institution now...
14. I think that 800 units in one place is a bit too much, so maybe it would be a good idea to distribute it. At the same time, going there for wiiya might ensure that MDA lands is more frequently visited, but...it all comes down to whether you have wiiya tools. Edit: Hmm, I kinda remember I wrote this. I was really tired back then :)
15. Only me and rawquist...hmmm, I wonder why.
16. I just found the book! Your quest reminded me of ”Alchemical Marriage of Alistair Crompton”, by Robert Sheckley. A very interested read.
17. Approved, it might be, but I cannot see the link to his video anywhere. -_-
18. I am asking myself ”should I?” now :)) Three weeks have passed and since there are no new submissions, participation is closed Thursday, at 00:00. And...closed! Thank you for participation. Results will be published later on.
19. I will work on a list on grasan ferment. :))
20. I am going to side with Ary on this one :) I think his argumentation on why the current system needs to be changed is valid. Edit: not on the ”all” ability, I dont really understand who is right there, but what he says from We are going offtopic now but still I'll say it. on is correct, imo.
21. This was kept a secret for a long time and I think it is time for it to be revealed. I am talking about the secret library in Winds Sanctuary. Many of you probably dont know that in Marind Bell there are a few such libraries or lore collections. Their locations are hidden so well that citizens go through the scene without suspecting anything. I will be talking about the library at the capitol, the one that most citizens of MB have seen and that I had the honor of seeing myself. You know the shop? Well, a secret password told to the shopkeeper will grant you acces to a hidden door. Behind it is the famous library of Marind, which has many interesting items, although not the most powerful. As you walk in, all you see is a huge spiral staircase going up to infinity. The stairs and the hand rails are translucent and you have the feeling you are walking in aether. Climbing a few steps gets you into the first section: books are surrounding you from all sides and are placed so that you can take them with great ease. After finishing with one section, you go up to the next one. I have only gotten through a few and I want to tell you about it. The first section is the historical section. It is a huge one, spawning hundreds of books that I would need days *cough* decades to go through. You can read everything about the land since it was formed, the wars being fought, the famous citizens and many other things. Some very interesting things about alliances, seals and symbols can be found there. I was so excited when I found them that I started yawning. I stretched a little and went up one section. The next one was the section on fighting and war, that kind of thing. I was really impressed with it. Descriptions of weapons and their use, biographies of famous fighters from all lands, techniques of castle-building and means of defense, it was all there. I have never seen such an extensive collection in my life! But as I was going forward, I started to notice something very strange - all those books about war were slowly being changed by books on love, cheating your husband/wife, seducing married women, ways to convince a lover and so on. The ration began to rise alarmingly in favor of such books and I didnt know what was going on. Then everything made sense when I found a book called ”Love is a battlefield”. I cite from memory right now: ”You dont know what the art of fighting is until you master the art of love. Fitghing is easy, but unsheating your sword and jumping from the 3rd floor because her husband has come home sooner is hard. Fighting you wife when she hears about your escapades is hard. Training a few angiens is easy. But dont despair. Love and do what you want.” I had a revelation reading that - I realized my approach to fighting was wrong all along. In order to become a great figher - for the sake of my land - I had to find myself a hot married woman and seduce her. Then, I would know true power. Sun tzu has laid the principles of war marvellously in his book, but what a young man needs is raw experience to toughen him up. Yes, I had to change my view on what it means to be a strong warrior. Oh, how noble it is to sacrifice yourself for the greater good! The next section was a bit...meh. It contained scrapbooks with people while in the land of Marind. It was...well, I found myself in there, picking my nose at MDP. I dont know what kind of people would do something like this (spying on others), but I understand everyone does. And some even have high-tech equipment to do that. Pervs. Anyway, what I realized is that privacy is an important thing. I mean, thats why papparazzis gets beaten, right? CUZ its important. Privacy, I mean. Totally disgusted by the previous section, with a few exceptions (too small to count - women bathing at Willows walk and stuff), I climbed to the next section. In here, the books were just a few, but each of them was a rara avis (in translation, ”rare as hell”). I found a nice book with jokes and funny episodes with necrovians, also containing caricatures. It was called ”Scary doodles or The Fluffy Evil” - a pretty good title, imo. Another book - fantastic book, really - was the mirror-book. It sound interesting, right? And it is - it has no pages, just the cover. As soon as you open it, you read yourself. I mean, you can see your thoughts in there; but not your thoughts thoughts, but your inner thoughs, your subconscious thoughts. I saw a villa with naked girls doing chores. Lots of brunettes, sensual blondes, redheads and I even spotted a japanese girl slicing pizza. They were all working for me - cleaning and dusting, cooking, doing laundry or ironing my shirts, while I was (I remember this vividly) standing in fron of the window thinking that life has no meaning, that we are just products of circumstances and that our choices are only illusions; that we have no control over anything and life is but a dream. I realized at that moment that I might be a misogynist buddhist of some sort. Going up, I had the pleasure of seeing lots of books on cooking. Cooking fish, that is. I never knew so many fish existed - I always liked pork and chicken and as for fish, I loved whale. Those greenpeace guys always deliver the best whale. But here they were, all kinds of books on cooking fish and I was dumbfounded by this, because I have never seen fish in the realm. No fisherman, no fishing pole, no fish at all. My whole diet since I have been here was made up of candy, cake and beer. I am on the verge of becoming a sweets-addicted alcoholic. At that moment, I realised that MD needs more variety, it needs something different, like...muffins. Or pies. With cheese.Or something. My stomach started to growl and I decided I cannot spend more time in the library (although there were still many sections to see!). I rushed down the stairs - thank Princ they were only 213 and went straight to the canteen. I sighted at the sight of the sign which read ”We are out of apple strudel and vodka”. That sign has been there since I remember...
22. Well, 2 weeks have passed already :)
23. I read the whole post, but you could have written on one subject at a time...:) because I can focus on one thing at a time. About the honor loss and the idea that a stronger player shouldnt help a weaker one...I agree with it, as principle, BUT ...what if you are in the same alliance (or even land) and you want to train your comrade? This is one instance where it should be allowed. The other problem is, ofc, that if you dont have a constant flow of new players (or even alts), there will be combat only between weak and strong players and the honor loss would become an issue. As a principle, I agree with the idea behind it. Just as there was a talk about viscosity, this shouldnt be removed, imo. As a short-term solution, it could be removed, but...think, Ary, think! :p (Im no combat expert, I abstain)
24. I did say 2-3 weeks, but since there seem to be no other participants, I will close this in 2-3 days.
25. Well, you could always wait until story-mode is out of the main picture. That should be soon.
