To sum up what tarq said: The first type is playing a role while keeping the character pretty much yourself (the player). For this type there is no distinction between IC and OOC. The second one is playing a character, sometimes including different personality as well. This one is what is commonly used in some RP games (play by post, play by email, and tabletops) but as MD didn't start with that kind of approach, you might find some problem at times as the first type doesn't separate IC and OOC and this type does. But so far the two has been able to coexist to some degree (they haven't started killing each other.. much) so pick whichever suits you best
Welcome, Burke. One word of advice - try not to claim to have supernatural powers that you can't back up with actual game mechanics [s]or strong role-playing in chat.[/s] It looks silly.
+1 to what fyrd said. Well, I'd personally go a step further and scratch the strong roleplaying in chat part, as anyone can roleplay having a power. But all talk but no mechanics supporting behind it is totally silly IMHO.

Hi, I will try to answer some of the questions you have. Others will certainly come and fill in where I cannot provide an answer. Are there specific native races to the MD world? Do I have to choose one of these for an RP character? Am I required to RP? Am I required to do my own character art? There are no specific races native to the MD world, in fact back a few years ago no one really played any races. We are just humans (well, there were people who played a dog, but that's 1 in a 1000 ). You are not required to choose any race for an RP character, feel free to play just a normal human (taking into account the strange circumstance that our character finds him/herself at the beginning of the story mode). There are no requirement to RP, at least not in the sense of traditional RP games where you need to play a completely different character. Play a role, not a character! There is an avatar shop that you can access so you are not required to make your own character art, however you can also choose to do one yourself and it might be approved to be used as your own personal avatar. What's the best way for me to solve quests or find clues? Really depends on the type of quests, but mostly either asking around (there are some quests that would require you to do so, be careful as some quest creator may prohibit this and see it as cheating though. Just make sure with the quest giver 1st) or internet research/googling. Are there NPCs, or is the world occupied by pre-set triggers and other players only? There are a very small number of NPCs that you can fight (for just one battle each), but 99% of the game is player interaction. How do *you* contact other players inside or outside of the game? You can private message a player, however to do so you need to click on their name, meaning you have to meet the person first. You don't need to see the person directly though, players leave 'footprints'; their name will stay on a spot for a few hours after they pass. You can also click on that footprint and you will be able to choose to message them. Once they replied, you can keep their PM so you can reply to them again anytime. Another method is by contacting the person via this forum's PM feature, that is, if that player checks the forum often though. I've noticed there are groups, clans, associations, guilds, what have you. Where are these found? How do you join? How do you choose? You join by contacting the member of the group and applying (or applying on their subforum). You can see a brief description of these guilds/alliances on the subforum for each of them. Do note that most groups have a criteria for accepting people, and here we have a mentality that people should join only if they are interested in the guilds/alliances' cause, not just for the sake of being in an alliance. There really isn't much other advantage you get by joining one and there are risks involved, so don't rush to join one unless you are sure you're gonna like being in there. Yeah. So. Tons of basic n00b questions, and I don't know where to look for answers. Don't worry, we're all new once, and you'll find a lot of people willing to help around here
but i already said that, the nothing is balanced by the everything. The concepts are hard to understand and even harder to play with. My balance model is 2481 with duality as a start and unity as a result... now i am having a hard time to find a way to describe what i would call now "the causing result" . what i mean is that things start actually with their end and expand backwards in time to cause their roots in reality. In that sense , one=complete, dual=base. I wish i could say more but i dont want to spoil the best parts before i find a way to write them better...and also to find a way to avoid religious touch because thats probably the biggest pitfall in such things. Think of the words "god is one" for example, it actually means exactly that in my opinion. 1 equals zero and is the counterbalance of it, like in full vs empty. dengerous concepts, very very dangerous, because so far all the "logic" is i may call it so points to one answer too few are ready to understand and might be mistaken with nihilism.
Yeah, I was making sure I got it right =b The theory of something starting with the end and expanding backwards (is this the result of that theory you have of Mur making stuff in the happen past so it will come to being in the future?) actually reminds me of the belief in destiny/fate. That everything is already fated/destined actually fits with your theory, if we see it the "predetermined" end as being "predetermined" because it is the first to exist/the start, and thus the end which is the past will inevitable reach there. Makes me think though, if there is an end which is the start and the start which is the end, then at the absolute middle point between those, what exists? (the present maybe?) If we think of the process as a straight line, then it is just the middle of the line, but if we think of it as a circle/cycle, then the middle point would be.. the center of the circle?

I'm with the bun-buns, of course.
-
By your logic that nothing is one, then would it be that one is not balanced by itself per se, but nothing needs something to balance it. As is, the nothing that represents everything that isn't needs the everything/infinity that is, right?
-
It's very easy to implement. It possibly brings good results. Why not? I vote yes.
-
What I find strange is not the vitality damage (which is totally normal), but that you lose heat while on unfamiliar land.. That might have been a bug (unless you have negative briskness, which might have something to do with that).
-
Of course I'd like to see team bunny vs team drach, a competition to end all the unfinished rivalry! Too bad RJ's seems not to be around anymore.. =(
-
Well, not exactly. While it does sound logical, the point to having raw materials in real item form is that you can't just sac a creature to get it. So, unfortunately the answer is no =(
-
Actually, I don't see any problem with trading beastiaries either.
You may also trade the bestiary as any other item, allow others to place creatures in it, or even hold multiple bestiary books at the same time.
How much were you betting again?
-
Okay, just sharing my opinions here.. 1. I don't think there's anything wrong here. People have traded drach mutation services, aramor to joker mutation services, and items that were made from WPs (not the freely given one). Heck, people have even sold TS for a price (which access requires a WP), and sold uses of their spell. I think it is perfectly legal to trade the things you get from a WP, as long as you're not trading the WP itself. 2. I can understand number two as well, I get where you got the reasoning and at a glance it seems perfectly fine (Brulant summarized the case well here). HOWEVER, there is one thing that makes me thing this should not be done (aka illegal) which you might have not realized. When you do this, the person you pay back the WP to will have some otherwise unattainable bonus; their amount of earned WP would increase by one (not sure about the spent WP, my guess is it would too) which means they can go further inside the wishshop without spending any effort gaining more WPs. And for the sake of bragging rights, they get +1 on the wishpoints top list. Hence, I don't think this should be done. Otherwise, once the precedent is set, we'll start seeing abuse to unlock the shop using "trade" as an instrument. If you want to reimburse the WP, you could do so by offering to use your WP if the person wants to make an item in the future, or mutate a drach/colorless joker for them. Stuff that consumes your WP instead of them, just like what you're asking right now, but no directly reimbursing them a WP.
hmm a pimped grasan and a gold coin for the tainted angien.
You do realize tt's a price check, not really an open bidding right? Thought if you do value at tainted at that value, let me know when you get one and I'll buy it from you for that price, and even throw extras And on topic: I'd say 10ish for the GG, maybe more depending on token. 15-20 each for the dark an the tainted. Rusties probably around 5. (all prices in gc) Alas I am personally poor right now, so it's not like I can really bid..

To clarify on the history of the Creators/Crafters, it was never in MDA. The Creators (the initial name) was based on an old alliance (from the first alliance test) in Loreroot, and later on the name was changed to the Crafters. Kragel and I had wanted to move the Crafters to MDA to ensure neutrality, but the transfer was never done. So the Crafters were never really on MDA, it has always been on Loreroot.

IIRC, people were allowed to donate credits to those treasuries. Since the artisans are gone now, I propose that those part be given back to people who donated them, since the ones they originally want to donate for no longer exists. It might be quite some work though, so I guess I'm not actually hoping it would happen, just stating what I think is the right thing to do. Barring that, I'd agree that rather than letting it rot there, we should give the treasury somewhere. I'd agree to give it to the advertisers (though it doesn't have to specifically be used just for the FB page), as I cannot think of any other guild that actually needs it. The other guilds (Crafters, Lair Keepers and Wood Cutters) do not need it, and giving it to alliances is a big no-no. Giving it to sponsor some community run events (MDNP -if they return, though I think they have their own treasury as well-, story night, the market initiative) could be considered as well though.
Why BFH? WHY him specifically? Certainly there are OTHER starving alliances and organizations within the game which could benefit from that better than he could. I mean, hell, if he really wanted to, he could commission the Advertisers to advertise for people for say, a gold coin for a month of work. That could easily give them a form of payment, or otherwise something for their treasury. Edit: To make myself clear, I am against taking ANYTHING from an old alliance for the gains of a new one. I was making my previous paragraph to defend my questioning of BFH's Guild.
The gold coin a month would need to come out of someone's pocket, so unless BFH has a treasury to draw from, it's not exactly "easy form of payment". It's not just an old alliance (guild, to be exact), but also a no longer existant one. I personally see no problem to do something about the idle resources (or well, we can give the credits to the ex-member of the artisans prior to its disbanding for the services they did I guess).
-
Advertisers if back with BFH as leader, I think.

I think what laphers is referring to is the chevron-like thingy. That one is just an indicator of active days (I don't personally see it as something that must be considered a spoiler, but mods are welcomed to remove it if you think otherwise..), which means you'll see difference as you log in everyday (at later levels changes happen every quite a bit longer though). I assume you're referring to the titles written in text though, in which case when you get it is really not fixed, though if you have a good role, you'd have a fine chance of getting one on the next festival.

At what price, and what kind of age you prefer if I may ask?
