MD Awards 2012 - Category Suggestion

Here we'll discuss the various categories for this year's awards.

Copied over from last year, below is the list of previous categories to add, remove and change as consensus dictates. I will strike out any that are decided to be removed from the list.
New categories are also encouraged, and will get added to the list if there's no/negligible objections to it and multiple people want it included. This is the purpose of the thread, to come up with a final list of categories, remove and add as you decide, I'll just edit the list every so often.

There's currently 14 categories, and I'd like to keep it under 15 total, if there's more than that when the thread closes then I'll reduce it to that number myself, so it's in your interests to keep that number down



Adventuring Award
For the person most dedicated, or who perseveres most at quests. Not necessarily for completing, or winning the most.

Best Beautification
For the person thought to be the most skilled at art in the realm. Generally speaking this refers to drawing/painting, rather than other forms of art.
For the player with the best presented papers. This is a purely objective vote, as every player finds different things nice looking. It also encompasses the player's backstory as presented in their papers. [[color=red]someone please "tidy" this description[/color]]

[s]Best Spell Caster
For the person most enthusiastic or creative with casting spells - by which it is meant the use itself of them, the words used or another method by which the voter deems appropriate.[/s]

Champion Fighter
For the person considered to be the best fighter in the realm, this does not necessarily have to be the strongest fighter in the realm, but the one that uses the combat system to the best effect.

Elite Evil Villain of the Year
For the person who is viewed as being the most villainous over the past year. The voter can interpret this in various ways, including but not limited to; most negative disturbance caused, most times sent to jail, most people peeved off by them, most ingenious/devious plan devised and carried out.

Fossil of the year
For the player who has been around so long they have turned into a fossil. The player must be visibly active over the past year, and on the veterans list in game.

The Golden Protector
For the player who is viewed as performing the best in the role of protector(MP6) during the past year. The player does not have to currently be a protector. The voter should take into account the actions of the other protectors in the realm, rather than automatically voting for their own. Best can mean how helpful the protector has been, to how effective they have been in recruiting worshippers, this is at the voters discretion.

Helper of the Year
For the player deemed to have been the most helpful. This is open to any player, and is not restricted to LHOs. The area of helpfulness the player focusses on can vary, but due to the original focus of the award being to LHOs, it would be implied that the award is based on peoples helpfulness towards newer players. The voter should realise that even though they may not get on with, or have been helped by one of the nominees, this does not mean that the player is not indeed helpful.

Most Addicted
For the player who just can't leave MD for more than a minute without needing a fix.

Most Popular

Outstanding Service to MD
For the player thought to have done the most to contribute to MD over the year. This can be in any field.

Pre-eminent Role Player
For the player deemed to Role Play the best. The player does not have to stay in character all the time to win this award (though it may help), rather when they do role play it is to the highest standard - this does usually go in hand with remaining in character.

Prime Quest
For the player seen as creating the best quest over the past year. Just because a voter did not manage to complete the quest, does not mean it was a bad quest necessarily, the voter is asked to take this into account when voting.

Rookie of the year
For the player deemed to have made the most progress since they started their account. The player must have created their account since 1st January 2011 (inc) and be between 20 - 365 AD at the time of voting. By progress it is meant a step towards a defined role or position (not necessarily official) within the realm, or integration within the community to a large degree.

Top Techie
For the person credited as creating the [s]best[/s] most popular MD-scripted event or script.

Suggestions (This thread) will be open for 6 days, till 1st Dec, at which point;
Nominations will open on 2nd, will also last 6 days, ending 7th Dec, then;
Voting, starting 8th Dec, again for 7 days, ending 14th Dec;
Awards Ceremony will then take place on Monday 17th Dec (TBC)

I'd suggest getting rid of Best Spell Caster. It's a redundant award.

I would propose just three. Preeminent Role Player, Champion Fighter, and Outstanding Service to MD (this last one encompasses quest organizers, wiki editors, etc., and should be a measure of all activity that helps the community).

I suggest the description of Top techie be changed. Rather than a superlative like 'best' I'd suggest most popular or something like that.

I also agree with seig. Best spell caster I think can be removed and something else can be added. Most informative or separate the best papers award?

I'd like to see Most Evil Villain removed as well. We don't have anyone to fill the role besides the obvious.

I'd like to see this event lean more towards recognizing outstanding service to MD, its community, and each other.

"Villains" help too, just not in the most helpful of ways, think [url="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hacker_%28computer_security%29#Grey_hat"]Grey hat hacker[/url]. In some cases they put more effort in than the people they're villainizing.

Useless. Every land will vote for their player.

why not give away a most friendly/most popular player award? Popularity deserves an award too. The person needn't be an LHO or a person who has established a role. They maybe the most liked player in the realm. Someone who is friendly, helpful, well known but isn't listed out. I know there'l be a lot of nominations, but we can keep it in such a way that the person has to be nominated by atleast 3 people to make it to the voting list.

Add "Quest Expert" for the best quest-maker of the year. It can also be merged with "Prime Quest", if possible.

What does this mean?

For the person who successfully organizes events, like Story Night, Poetry Corner or whatever it was, festivals, etc

We only have one successful organizer and that is BFH. It's a bit redundant to compete in a contest if you're the only participant.
