1.
- Alts are not to be used on the forum. They will be removed/merged and you can be punished for using alts.
http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/topic/5784-forum-rules/page__view__findpost__p__48452 Just as a reminder, all of us should have read those rules some time Apart from that, i'm fine with alts that don't abuse the system and don't start to force their (copied) 'stories' on MD. There's... 10 of these, at best. There are also very few people who have the time, and brain capacity, to play two different accounts well. Those are the only alts worth being supported. The others... waste serverspace. And annoy me, personally, to no end. You also have to be careful with your opinions, MD is an RPG. We are NOT ourselves when we log in, we play a character. Some very smart people are capable of creating more than 1 character for the same game. A lot more tried and failed, but the potential failure shouldn't ban them from the try imo. They give up some time anyways^^

Combat Balance

Late response to Light: That's exactly why i wrote 'NOT the self-inflicted damages, things get calculated normally, and the damage to _the other person_ gets capped afterwards'. They were supposed to keep their overburn flaw, it was practically the only way to win against their massive defence. Now Angiens are stripped of their only weakness. Whereas a newbie had a chance against 6 angiens before, with rather simple tricks, they are now only beatable with force, just like critboost-token-monsters T_T You know, i'm really glad that you pick up on ideas so fast, but you didn't quite make things better with that change... Edit I guess that could be read wrong, so i'll clarify: Angiens are pretty different from before, and a lot less god-ish, which is great, yeah, but they were flawed to some point which made them beatable. Now they are... like drachs, basically, just a lot stronger. Fine, fair enough, maybe a newbie should simply have no chance against angiens, like they are not supposed to have a chance against drachs. But the original problem, that with tokens and crit-boost causing damages well beyond sanity, that's still the same, it just was turned into a problem that's only with shop creatures (currently, until people get a hold of enough of those tainted angiens). I see that MD needs an income, and providing things to beat anything to pulp in shop obviously works to some point, but it doesn't have to be THAT much damage. Critboost should provide a massive advantage, and so should tokens, but combined, they should be massive+massive, not massive^massive as they are now. iirc, MRDs damage of 1 drach boosted with 5 rusties was 20k, and the damage of all tokens added together is like 6k, if somebody by coincidence has all with the matching principles and knows better, correct me please. The damage of a tokened drach boosted with 5 rusties is about 400k. Why not turn it into 26k? That's still a great advantage, great enough so it still pays to buy both of it, even. And that wouldn't be THAT offputting for freeplayers.
3. stop wasting time on the forums and explore every corner of the map. Once you know everything about every place you can go to, you can start wondering how to get to more places, and about quests, and about why some places are just the way they are... there's no coincidence in MD, everything that happens is part of a greater puzzle

Combat Balance

As you might know, top players are talking about their damages in hundreds of thousands. New players talk about it in... tens. not tens of thousands, just tens. So, like, there i sat with tons of logs, trying to find some creative way to even things out a bit, at least a bit. Just because it doesn't seem really likely for a player to stay when other people can deal a 10.000 times more damage than him. Emphasis on TEN_THOUSAND_TIMES, not a thousand more, but houndreds of thousands more. Which is only achieveable by shop or a lot, lot, lotlotlot of mindless grinding. And creatures they don't even know about when starting. But hell, it's hard to balance things, specially because Mur already did a lot of balance-work, and damn, he did it really fine for anything but top-grinders. And suddenly it occurs to me that i look at the wrong things! It's not tokens that need new balance, it's not crit-boost either, they work just fine! The only thing that matters here is ORDER! As with most things, timing and order are crucial in MD battles. Currently, what happens in a combat is this: Check rituals and occasionally do a low-vit-randomizer Load rituals Apply token-boost Apply special influences Apply Combo Apply energetic influence Fight If you just switch two of those sequences, which are probably actually as simple to switch as a cut-paste in the source, and turn it into Check rituals and occasionally do a low-vit-randomizer Load rituals Apply special influences Apply token-boost Apply Combo Apply energetic influence Fight you don't even need to mess with the balance Mur so eloquently puzzled together already, and not change much for most of the players, but cut the damage of top players by... roughly 80%. Probably more. That turns hundreds of thousands into a few ten thousand, which sounds by far saner. Still not really good, but a whole lot better than current state of things. Also, since Angiens were designed to do damage comparable to those lethal tokenmonsters, they need to be... regulated, too. I'd say, cap the burn (NOT the self-inflicted damages, things get calculated normally, and the damage to _the other person_ gets capped afterwards) with the ammount of VE they have at the moment. For the untokened top-players, that's a cut to 1/15th of their current burn-power, tokened angiens would lose 99,99% of their current burn. Not that they'd get weak by that, they are endlessly overpowered as it is. No new tokens and crit-boost-systems that are totally low when you only have a little of this and a little of that, no, keep them as it is, power to the younglings! But let them work in another order, and the old top notches, token-whores and crit-boost monsters lose their god-status. Qualified critics are welcome, but please, don't post when you don't have a clue what this might mean if implemented.
Btw: VE-whores, also the ones with angiens, are not as much of a problem as it seems, either, with severly lowered damages and severely increased VE, eles get a role to play again
5. does rule 3 also apply to other inaccessible artwork? namely, avatars of dead people? you know... was hard to get those edit-abilities, don't feel like gambling with them <.<

Cats Or Dogs?

litter... box...? You mean, you take an animal and imprison it in a house? Yuck! Shame on you! Cats and dogs need trees and grass and sand and everything, if you force them to live on hard ground and sofas, they are not cats anymore... then they're moving teddy bears at best, just sleeping, eating, and occassionally purring when you scratch their ears -.-
7. solved, thanks for the fast work =D

Cats Or Dogs?

It depends on the needs. I like cats in my attic and cellar because they catch mice, but i prefer dogs in the yard because they keep strangers and salesmen away. I also prefer dogs when there are too many cats around the attic and cellar... Apart from that, dogs are more fun to play with, but cats don't smell and they are smarter, i'd prefer a cat as pet =)
9. bump I can still attack any MP6's traces at all times, and MP4 traces sometimes. I mean, not that i do it all the while, but... is it cheating if it happens on the plain normal interface? Without wishing for a debate on the moral values of attacking people who already fled, i think something should be done about the status of our poor protectors. It's just not very nice when you can be attacked by somebody who's not in your scene xD
10. Allies don't regen any VE with the timer at the moment. Confirmed by Golemus and Loreroot so far (Guerilla and Guardians, but regen is related to lands iirc) Anybody else experiencing that?
11. So far so good, we've had our fun... Even when you didn't pick up on all the punchlines i offered xD Can we go on to the actual message now? Just in case you didn't notice, it'd be those parts:
Almost all the players who get to MP5 at all are alts. MP3 can't find a target, and when they find out about GGG, they realize that 'training' is a cooperation-thingie here, meaning, you can't keep up with somebody who spends more time in MD, which results in: They are unable to win against anybody who started before they did. Fine game to play...

-There's massive stat gain via various means, mostly high-honor and saccing with a high ammount of wins. -There's that massive, very very massive, distortion in low MPs. -And, last but not least, it's very frustrating for very new players.

People don't get to balance in GGG because they couldn't use it anymore due to honor issues, unless they used honor-alts, which is not allowed. People don't DUEL, last time i checked part of the title of MD, but merely sit and look at each other until the fight is over and they get their wins, xp and stats (which they do, don't worry about me being wrong, i'm not). AND, you exclude the people who don't wish to play by your rules.
And just because i don't feel like joking around right now, i'll add that that's what i actually fear happening. Not that only the brainless survive MP3, but that a lot of potential is lost on MP3 because the general appearance doesn't imply that you can get further if you are smarter, but that you can only go beyond average by investing more time than the rest... which is not really possible for a newbie in a game that doesn't reset. I repeat, there's no joke in this post, i actually mean it.
12. woohoo, party! Congrats, Seeker, may the speed forever be with you =)
13. Because i don't want masses of brainless zombies, and specially not masses of brainless zombies that put off the few thinkers who still come around! If you want to start a character these days, there's NOTHING but GGG to train anything at all, am i actually the only person to think that anybody with brains doesn't see much of an interesting game in that?
14. bah, how long are we going to do that now? 2 gold 15 silver =P
15. i'll bid 2 gold for the SW, then
16.
If you have something _personal_ about someone use ways outside MD to settle the conflict. In MD you are facing the character that person created and not the person itself.
http://magicduel.com/pages/info.rules.php You know, i don't really bother since the forums are ruled by different laws than MD, and different people are here to enforce them, but if i'm supposed to read your comments on dst, which also occur ingame, as a personal attack, i'll want to report that to my Chief Inquisitor, and i bet he won't be happy about it. So, you'll maybe not want to let that post above stand there as it is.
17. 1. What makes you think i refer to MP5 only? Yeah, sure, I love killing things on MP5, but it's not like i couldn't be avoided, drop your ally and get to 200+ losses and you're safe from me. What i rather refer to is MP3 and MP4, where people start to either like or leave MD. 2. Mkay, a reminder for those who know less than Chewie, who obviously posted to make me explain... People complained that they were unable to find opponents back in the days because we all were massively off balance, which lead to massive free stats for us, and a lot of frustration for balance-players, in the end. Right, maybe not the nicest thing to do, but either way, Mur stopped us. The situation with GGG is literally the same: -There are no opponents for a fight, just like the trees back then. -There's massive stat gain via various means, mostly high-honor and saccing with a high ammount of wins. -There's that massive, very very massive, distortion in low MPs, something we managed to avoid back then, as i might add. -And, last but not least, it's very frustrating for very new players, whereas willow's was only frustrating for new MP5 who were balanced. 3. Even Pip knows how to not get his creatures killed regardless of the incoming attack. Even Pip! (Sorry Pip, may the Fetish be with you^^) 4. Do i really need to go into the details of how long you have to stat-grind 24/7 to beat somebody who knows how to fight? Because, you know, there's something far more important than stats, we mostly call it 'ritual'... I've been doing that Fight Club thingie a lot lately, when i set a decent rit, i need no more than 1% of my influence to win almost all the time, and even that is only for regening the crits after some token-monster bashed my def. That's how useful stats are. PS: I have yet to see the GGG send me a fighter. I almost beat up Chewie's HC-defence with 5 remains and an angien, and the second time i tried i suceeded with a new rit of 5 remains and an angien on a different targeting-option. Yeah, the GGG definitely does a lot to improve the overall quality of the duels in MD... Reading a second time, i think i might have to elaborate on 2 even more. The problem with Willow's, in a very generalized way, was that there was a mutual agreement of setting trees and giving losses to everybody else at some point because that was the way everybody gained most. Which ended in frustrated newcomers who got -600 honor for a win, and massively increased stats for the people who spent the most time online. This was not really a problem in itself, but it messed with the balance concept. GGG messes with all concepts: People don't get to balance in GGG because they couldn't use it anymore due to honor issues, unless they used honor-alts, which is not allowed. People don't DUEL, last time i checked part of the title of MD, but merely sit and look at each other until the fight is over and they get their wins, xp and stats (which they do, don't worry about me being wrong, i'm not). AND, you exclude the people who don't wish to play by your rules. And now tell me how that situation is different from the one at Willow's which lead to skilldamage, except for me being on the other side this time.
18.
I think one of the points of this is the idle player. I'm not sure how this was started, but now I see alot of people are idle for far longer than they play. Is that the way idle was meant to be? I personally do not idle much, because to me idle is like sleep. If you sleep all the time and are active very little isn't that kinda....lazy? Don't get me wrong I am very new to this game compared to alot and know less than i would like to about the mechanics. When platyers are idle for 8 hours at a time eventually, if they set up "balanced" rits, their rits run out and it becomes a solid barrage of losses. Therefore when you log back on to play for 2 hours, you have a ton more losses and as we all know at MP4 and MP5 actual Victories are much harder to come by than losses. Am I looking at all of this wrong? I agree with alot that Willem has to say and have always been a balance player. We are all guilty of tree setting at times (my favorite is tree and 2 unholy priests as soem know). Like DST said (i can't belive I'm agreeing with DST) Tree choppin isn't a bad thing as long as its done in MODERATION. With the implementing of the 20x rits I feel people have grown lax and set up rits for 8 hours of trees. if you have 4 trees, set up one tree and some matars as deff, times 20, you arrived with 80 rits set up and waiting to be chopped away at. Now as an RPer or as a Warrior can you honestly tell me that you do not find that as a little lazy? Just my opinion and I have been known to be wrong before
Recognize this? This is my opinion on GGG. Not that it changed recently, but it recently started to annoy me. I'm unable to find opponents. Not because of honor barriers, i put those on myself to save the newbies from me, but because of GGG. It's literally impossible to get some sort of fight outside of it, there's nobody who's not hiding there. Kind of the same situation people like phantasm faced by the time that post was written. Enough of forging wins for creatures, enough of gathering stats without work, enough of the abuse of balance-system. Mur, if you can't think of a way to stop that once and for all, like you stopped the last major battle-mechanics-abuse at Willow's, feel free to ask any time of the day.
19. and furthermore it doesn't clarify nothing, it just makes you unpunishable... What about the poor fellows with avatars from you? Basically all of them are going to be taken out, seeing a few of them are very cleared copies, most of them will be, and if the owner of the artwork happens to stumble across MD and see one, there's some real trouble... So, without any help from you, all those avatars from your account will be taken out most likely, and the Savelites/Reggy will be in trouble instead of you because it's their shop. Sounds like a great solution, really. Very mature and friendly thing to do, all in all
20. Well, items can be traced without much trouble these days... I mean, irl, a thief can be sued to give back what he stole after the criminal court is done with him, we can apply that logic here, can't we? And... taking money from a thief and making deals with it is [depending on circumstances] Fencing or Money Laundering, a crime in itself, personally, i'd surely go and prosecute them under criminal law, sooner or later all coins that went through Kamil would show up again, item-trace-logs work great, no problem there... And after they are punished, i'd go and get my money back. btw: Within the laws i know, you can avoid a trial for Fencing and Money Laundring by undoing the things you did, namely giving back the stolen goods to the people they rightfully belong to. Reading Mur's post, i think you have a few days before the 'trial' will be held, i'd do my best to have enough coins at hand so you can undo damages which might occur afterwards very very quickly... Once the inquisition is on your heels, there's no chance of active repentance anymore, just the chance of lowering the punishment a bit
21. that prison bloke doesn't really look like the Absorbing Man, even when it's probably influenced by it, and the Birth of Venus (Venus of Milo is that sculpture with the missing arms) is probably one of the most copied pictures ever, if you leave out the Last Supper and Mona Lisa, but the redneck is almost completely traced :/ I'd say copying art of other people, even in parts, is not accpetable, using the same poses would be okay imo... i mean, there are just so many poses things can take and look good still... But blatant copies from a drawing of somebody else are definitely unacceptable, even when it's 'just' parts of other people's artwork apart from that: I found two ninjas-guys that look a bit alike, too... http://magicduel.invisionzone.com/index.php?app=core&module=attach&section=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=1677 http://th08.deviantart.net/fs7/300W/i/2005/180/d/b/Ninja_by_hamex.jpg

23. a lot of people have that issue, i mostly saw southeast asian countries with Australia, middle east countries with US (oh, the irony), and southeast europe, specially romania, with german flags i think it's related to providers not having the ressources to serve all their customers, and some lands like Australia, US and Germany having rather big servers for rent

25. I haven't been speaking of 2 rituals, but two defences. Note the difference between rituals and fights, it's quite important and adressing your concern about my reading abilities. I don't 2nd guess you, i talk about something entirely different than you. And it seems that the guide is simply wrong there, small wonder, looking at the date of it. Don't trust mechanics posts older than 6 months. It's rather unlikely that they are still correct.
