1. i start liking maggot, that are some good points all over the forum^^ as you have said, those are two mini-societies. feel free to join whichever you want, or even start up your own if you want ( and find a way between attacking and not-attacking... ), but don't try to tell the other side what they should do! You are fully free to play according to the rules the dojo-society lives with or not, but the dojo-society is there, and it's a huge part of the users, and if you rebel against them you will have to take their revenge. compare it to a city and it's gangs: it would be the same if the dojo-community was a real small group, they would still claim the marble dale park to be their territory and try to keep aliens out of there by all means, and to them, those rules are absolutely "mandatory". i guess you have read most of the posts here, so i guess you already know all the arguments that were brought into the discussion. mankind always claimed parts of the earth as "their land" and often fought huge wars to defend the things we believed in, and it's the same with the dojo. there are enough users to keep that society up and they will try doing so until every single one of them falls or Mur tells them to stop the dojo  and if the dojo really was about to become mandatory to all, there would be no use for punishments, would there?^^ we assume that there will always be rebels like STF, no matter whether they have a cause or not, and that's the only reason why the staff wants some stronger means of punishing offenders, because they are all afraid of STF, he could kill most of the players who are trying to enforce the dojo with absolutely no troubles, and i guess he would have full support of dst and No One just for the fun of it =D
2. i have the stange feeling you missunderstood me =D i like all those values of equality and freedom of speech and i'm absolutely on your side about rules that need to be laid down to make sure that all mods act in "the same general way", not meaning that i want a faceless system, but neither do i wish to have a system in which different judges put totally different judgements on me like one of them telling me off and the other banning me for a week, to have both extremes here^^ i just wanted to make sure that the people reading your post don't jump from their seats and start typing that they want those rules at once, because even such a little bunch of 8 rules needs a whole lot of work to get implemented and exceptions here and there, and i'm pretty sure that those exceptions need a rather huge dicussion because we have very different positions here, on the one side you wanting to make sure that the mods have little to none rights except for those laid down in the rules, the mods who want you to see that they already act according to rules they made up but don't want to share so nobody comes around and tries to exploit the exceptions, and a large bunch of other positions everywhere between "give me mods rights because i can do it better " and "never mind mods, the forum works better without them!" my whole post was not so much about destroying your idea, which is obviously great, it as more about showing the ignorants out there who rarely read the forums that your point just enlights one side of a greater issue. i hope you forgive me if it sounds like i don't like and/or don't understand your idea, because i really think it has a valid point and needs to be taken into consideration =D
3. i'd suggest there are two ways of doing something: fast and bureaucratic. if there's a spoiler that needs to be deleted, an offence angainst anyone that has to be edited or a topic that's going somewhat off-topicand needs to be closed, there shouldn't be any complex rules about it, there are enough people who would read and duplicate those things before the mods come around to clse them, but even more if the mods would first have to read through a huge book of rules whether they are allowed to close/edit/delete under exactly those circumstances or not. BUT everybody can always send a pm to the mod who changed your post and ask him/her for reasons, or ask him/her to undo his/her actions, absolutely no problem there. mods will most likely answer within half an hour, and they (almost) never get angry about such pms^^ of course the idea of having a book of rules for the mods is a nice idea, but i think in "cases of emergency", those rules should provide exceptions so the mods can act rather than start reading those books. And, to the rules, i suggest changing the rules according bans from 3 for spoiling and 5 for offtopic to 5 for spoiling and none for offtopic, this forum ahs a veery long life, and it's pretty hard never to tell spoilers because some of us take things for granted that others have no idea about, and some hints can be taken as spoilers by the mods and then, nobody would give any hints anymore =D same for offtopic, bans are a too heavy threat, that would be like putting death penalty on someone for stealing a news paper, it seems just unfair
4. I rather think that Mur thought he might be able to change the behaviour of players with his gift, because being in balance is really useful and should therefore be something that a player should want. Maybe he thought the reason why so many players were out of balance was that they had troubles winning at all, and were thrown off balance without themself wanting it, and just didn't manage to get back to balance. I myself don't understand why people rather choose to have too many losses, but i guess it's about not being attacked, which is quite useless, because if you don't want to be attacked, you can set defs that scare other people away or just log off. The real trouble is of a totally other nature: there are players who stay in balance, but those (me amongst them) log out when they leave the computer, so they don't loose too many battles and get off balance accidentaly, so the chances of finding someone who gives you honor as long as you are in balance yourself are rather slim, and so you are in trouble when fighting because those few who are online all the time give loads of neg honor, but there's no way of getting all that honor back from people who are a bit over balanced. To topic: I myself have no troubles even though i'm in balance most of the time, my counter is not frozen, if i stay idle at willow's for 3 hours i can get all the honor i want =P
5. I guess you mistake this with pokemon xD all our creatures don't really exist as far as i get it, they are just spells that we can concentrate on and that consume our powers while fighting, that's the only way i can imagine loosing vitality when fighting, it's consumed by the concentration we need to keep our creature-spells there to defend us That's also the reason why creatures use our stats to fight, they are only products of our mind and nothing more, so i guess if they have a soul or brains, it's our own and not "theirs" so the creature's can't grow different ways for respecting them or for hating them, they just grow, and maybe, they could gain more stats if the player has one stat really high as bootes suggested, but i think that will bring problems with the damage-dealers, if i only imagine dst could make an archer that gets more damage for the attack he has himself...
6. no, it didn't attack and couldn't be attacked, it was just there and did nothing (except for existing =D) it was as if it was already dead, but there was no line in the log saying "joker DIES", because it was already dead when the fight started...does this make any sense ? as far as the battle log is concerned, the joker never got mentioned, and after all the other creatures were dead, his picture still smiled at me with its less-than-zero vitality xD
7. I know it's already been seen on players, but i think it's new when coming to creatures: I just battled Dmik King and there was his joker with -62/1000 vitality xD I've checked all the circumstances: Dmik had -2k vit at that time and played with 68% pray power, so i guess the joker had life when the battle started, but the energetic influence killed it, and it didn't do anything in combat, it was just there, never attacked and couldn't be attacked. maybe that needs some further investigation...
8. you shouldn't attack idle players in the dojo, butmost of them don't bother even if you do^^ just don't beat up the noobs, they get a bit upset when attacked in the dojo... especially when losing all their creature ve
9. that's an old bug, if you need your regentimer for something (maybe you know what i'm talking about) it's better to refresh before using it, just to make sure you don't waste it^^ and it works the way it does, and the server would need loads more of chache if the timer was updated every second, so you'll just have to put up with it and remember that it's never correct unless you refresh the page
10. my system will make you even more jealous: we can do straight out nothing through all the year, learn just enough to get a D- at the end of the year in the final "you are about to fail, but you get another chance" exam, and still you can go to any college you want as long as not more than 3 (in words: three!) teachers give you an F as last^^ i love living in a society with a slim number of college-graduates *yippie* we don't even need to receive acceptance letters, we just go there and tell them we want to go to college, and they just ask whether our finals went good, no need to show any former exams or any presentation about how cool we are and how worthy we are of that place, just give them the A-level grades and they'll take you
11. but how does that work? would there be a tickbox, and you choose "yes, i want to be killed in the dojo" or "no, no attack spamming for me"? or would there be a message "incoming attack-do you want to fight?"?? both methods have fatal flaws, the first will make you un-attackable even if you want to heal with someone, and the second will make it impossible to attack idle players... when you can tell us a method that's working, we'll see if we can find a script for it ;-)
12. About the old topic of english: There are things at hand that need to be done before spelling corrections, and as long as you know that it's earth and not wrath, everything is okay, ain't it? =P To your new topic: Nobody closes out of arrogance here, but there is only so much spamming one topic can take, and when that limit is reached, it's time to close. When a topic has been open for months and there are no productive posts anymore (as it was for the english topic), closing is necessary to make sure nobody misses really important posts. And that special topic just gets on peoples nerves because it was absolutely clear that this was leading nowhere because Mur won't give away the source for spelling corrections xD
13. that's normal, ain't it? i mean you lost 60% after all, so no wonder your vit and critters ve were all gone^^ i'm not sure, but it's that way for me all the time when fighting with 90% pray power xD i win nearly all my outgoing battles, and always lose my vit and my critters vit because i lose about 50% before my enemies die at last... and i get the penalty line with all ingoing battle logs, no matter whether i actually win or lose
14. Good Morning MD^^ I have nice things too say, too, but yesterday i was a bit pissed off because of several reasons, including the fact that i had learned mostly all day while my brother kept annoying me and that it was well past midnight when i posted... I apologize for being a bit rude, but when it comes down to religion, i'm not used to being ignored I am christian myself, rom.cath. as we call it, although i disagree with some of the teachings of the pope-.- And i've chosen my words as i did just to show that some people might not see the difference between agnostics and atheist at once, but it's there, and it matters.
15. First of all: Where can i find Catholizism? Where the heck are ALL the christian religions?! And second: there's a HUGE difference between agnostizism and atheism, one means believing in nothing and the other means believing that there is nothing, and i can tell you that really believing there is NOTHING is a tough job, only about 0,01% of mankind do that, while about 10% claim they are agnostics...
16. It was always intended to be mandatory, at least in the way that nobody who goes there can attack anybody in there without asking for permission first. Of course there's nobody forcing you to go there at all, we live in a free society But once you are in one of the locations, you silently agree to the rules and will be punished if you break them repeatedly, first time with a pm about the ways of the dojo, second time with an angry pm about the ways, third time with a little act of revenge and if you either don't understand it or don't care, you'll get yourself on the list and will REALLY be punished^^
17. As you can imagine, the ideal society we all wanted to make of that place wouldn't need any rules at all, that's why the original intention of the dojo was a society project that IS GOING TO work just because everybody here is perfect and that's why everybody acts perfect. before you start laughing about this (i know you will, we all know the really human nature), please accept that the dojo was set in a community totally different from the one we live in now (by living in i mean the game world, not any real state). Before the dojo was there, there was NO, absolutly NO rule that wasn't enforced by mur, may it be directly or indirectly through his trusted rpc's and lho's, so we all assumed that there WERE no people who were potential transgressors of any rules. Our Garden of Eden fiction lasted long enough to make us try to set up the dojo and tell people about it and assume that they would honor the dojo by any means. When the festival started (still a good bit before Vaul got here, i guess), the shallow roleplaying started and loads of new players started playing the game. At once, our perfect little world had some, maybe even many intruders who didn't give a crap about our rule to honor the dojo. So we had to set up dojo guards who hunted the aggressors and beat them up to show them that they shouldn't attack in dojo. Vaul, as you ARE a lawyer, i guess you know everything about the history of law, for all the others here let's call this step the primitve law, in which the society helps itself with simple acts of revenge. There are certain rules, in our case "Thou shalt honor the dojo", and everybody who doesn't stick to them will be tortured by the means the community has to offer. Step by step, we see that this is leading nowhere (as it never did in history) and a kind of archaic law starts exiting, and that's where Vaul's arguments start: Troughout history, the "primitive law" was never efficient. We all live in eloquent societies where the state has the power to enforce laws and punish offenders. Sooner or later, this is what's going to happen to the dojo rule, just for the simple reason that mankind is too dumb to think of "the greater good". In the anonymity of the internet, breaking rules is even more easy to most people! Either there is a way to find some eloquent rule that will be laid down in the rules, or we stay with our primitive/ archaic laws, where either people use revenge to get "justice" or some amongst the people (usually the oldest or wisest) try to find solutions by talking it out when revenge is leading nowhere. I think you will agree that we've tried it for long with our society rules, and if we want to stop offences efficiently, we will have to find another way. So, to answer Vaul's question: the law system of the dojo is still in a process of growing up to the standards we know today and seems to be stuck somewhere in the 6th-7th century AD atm, so just be patient and don't get upset by those who are still trying to make the world an ideal place... I would like to keep the illusions of our perfect little MD World, but in the long run, it's not going to work that way-.- PS: i myself think that it's absolutley enough to have our primitve laws with occasional offences and punishments, but i assume that most of you (specially the dojo crew) want to put a stop on the offences, even if that means that we loose the society rule and hand it over to shoeps to make it a game rule and give the dojo crew effective spells to keep repeated offenders out of the dojo^^
18. it's not about avoiding mistakes, it's all about not making the same mistakes again. I understand that mp3's a re obviously starving for a quick solution so nobody attacks them in the dojo, but making mistakes is what makes us humans after all, ain't it? errare humanum est^^ there were suggestions about a banner, and messages, and even implementing the dojo in the tutorial, but all that doesn't work becuase there are other things on mur's mind, so we have to deal with the problems on our own. Maybe you've played a game before where the developing crew was always there to do whatever players wanted, but here, you have to believe in creationism: mur made the world and the primary rules, the rest is up to us^^ And i think it makes the game much more interesting that way
19. As i'm studying laws (or whatever else you call it in America, it's the thing you study before getting a lawyer or judge^^), i'd like to get some things clear here. Vaul, you're saying that there's no rule to break. That's true according to the game rules, which allow to attack anybody anywhere (except for sanctuary). But the thing we're talking about here is a social rule, something not set in positive laws (written law), but more a thing that's working through social pressure. I don't know where you come from, but things like eating habits or drinking habits are among those rules. Where i live, alcohol is a common drug that's not illegal, yet the society will punish you if you abuse it (e.g by taking away your home, job, friends...). That's NOT the law punishing you, but the SOCIETY you live in. It's the same with the idea of the dojo. Calyx intended the dojo to be a place that everybody honors, as the idea is really good, but we as a community had to see that it didn't work. So we started putting some social pressure on the people who don't honor the dojo. This list is nothing Mur is interested in or that's punished by him in any way, because he punishes only those who don't honor HIS rules. So, you can be sure that there's nobody who punishes the people on that list by capturing and torturing them or reducing their stats or whatever, because this are the ways mur punishes offenders (well, he won't torture you, but it sounds nice^^) yet there are other ways of the community to punish offenders WITHIN the rules of the game, i assume you have no idea about the cruelties of dst That list is NOT a list of outlaws that will be banned or whose critters will be taken away, but the people on that list ARE not accepted by our society, and therefore will be punished in ways that are open to us "normal players". ps: i've read all your posts so far, and even if you seem to know some latin, you are obviously assuming that ALL rules have to be written in a law book^^
20. i disagree with vaul about who needs the dojo most... i don't think that mp3 really need the dojo most, i think it's rather newbies on mp4 and mp5 who need to learn how to defend themselves against advanced players, in mp3 there's no real need for eloquent defence rituals and extraordinary combat strategies, it's more about pure strenght at mp3. no def can help you against grasan 2 and dark archer 2 on mp3, and most players have those critters when they finish mp3^^ the dojo CAN help mp3s of course, but more with heals and a place to set rituals, not really with the teaching part... and of course it's annoying when you try to help someone healing his creatures and some evil or ignorant guy comes in and kills your healing rit, but that can happen anywhere, and in the dojo at least a vast majority of players won't attack you, i remember being an mp3 and trying to heal with someone somewhere of the normal ways, it costs tons of ap, and the risk of being followed and bashed while healing was immense-.- you're better off with the dojo and some occasional attacks than with healing anywhere else:D and for all other players (mp4 and higher), i suggest to set some def rits and search for help in the dojo, you're chances of being attacked are still slimmer at the dojo than anywhere else, and some of the more secret matters of the game are normally not dicussed in the sanctuary with thousands of people listening^^
21. That comabt logs bug is old and well known to all of us, refresh your browser and it should be gone, if that doesn't work, logg off and back in again, then it should be gone, and if it's not (happens when you had really many fights) just fight one or two battles, then log realizes that there's just one recent fight and not like 200 And your creatures won't show up when they have 0 ve left as creatures with 0 ve are dead, you have to reanimate them before you can use them again^^
22. One wouldn't realize you are no native talker when reading your posts^^ My mother tongue is German, i started learning English 8 years ago, and i have some problems with the phrases of the language, too, because those i know are different from those that are used in english...-.- the short messages in chat help me a lot, reading those short and simple sentences is far easier than reading novels or stories, but sometimes i get frustrated when trying to solve the riddles round here, i just don't get what they are saying xD i think i can say whatever i need to say, but sometimes it takes me a bit longer too find the right words and most of the time it sounds somehow stupid, but i don't mind at all, even the best make mistakes sometimes, pobodys nerfect or something like that
23. I have to give in that i'm quite lazy when it comes to roleplaying, but i think that a real role should be really deep... i don't think that talking about rl sometimes is bad, there should be a mix of serious roleplaying and normal "getting-to-know-people" in chat as glai suggests. I don't think that it's really interesting in the long run to talk about the AL all the time, nor do i think that some shallow roleplaying like "hi, i'm the strong warrior, leave me alone or you'll die" is enough for this game. I rather think that an elaborated role is like a real personality and can have bad days, can be really pissed off for any reasons, no matter whether in- or out-game, and can sometimes feel lonely, dizzy, ocified or any other emotional state you know^^ Only that mix can make a good role, and in that mix, some shallow chatting and maybe some rl issues can have a place
24. now that's some REAL hardcore roleplaying^^ don't get me wrong, i like all of your ideas so far, but you're having a little egotrip here, aren't you? an ava with a rat is no problem, and new monsters are a pleasure too, but you suggest changes all over the game so your role works better I really like the story-telling you are suggesting, i always wondered where the heads are coming from and why they grow more by time, and descriptions to the sun items would be nice too, that leaves space for huge stories, but a new cave system that only you and your chosen members can enter?! summary of all that useless babbling: i like it, but i think it's a bit "too much"^^
25. yeah, that's called free credits here^^ just log on the game and clikc on [free credits] in the top right corner (it's written in red, you can't miss it ) click yourselves through the votings and hope that your vote gives magic duel the first place, else you'll be banned *hrhr* you get 0.01 dollar per vote and you can vote daily, that makes one free item every five days^^
