Apparently the 1000 days thing won't make the newcomers run the extra lap, it's been almost 6 weeks now...
Henceforth, the 1000 days rule is removed, and everyone who has a good entry shall be rewarded!

To respond to some questions that arose:
    - This 'quest' will likely not end, ever. You can try as often as you like, too.
    - If i think that i need to reward somebody, i'll announce it here, so everyone knows about it.
    - Yes, Shadow of the Colossus is absolutely awesome, and if you have any chance to get your hands on it, play it, even if the graphics are outdated!

Last time a minimum bid policy was sorely needed. The price would be 5 gold and people would bid 5 gold and 1 silver and it just kept going back and forth. I would suggest that after the bid gets up to a few gold that the minimum raise should be at least a few silver instead of one. For example, after 3 gold you must raise at least 3 silver, after 5 gold you must raise at least 5 silver, after 10 gold you must raise at least 10 silver (or one gold), etc. A simple policy that I imagine people would still be able to be confused by would be that the amount of gold the bid is currently at is the minimum raise in silver, i.e. 1 gold = 1 silver raise, 2 gold = 2 silver raise, 5 gold = 5 silver raise.

That being out of the way, i've recently started to check in again more regularly, and found myself stuck on a very specific part of my personal researches. And since i'm generally a nice guy and stuff, i'll give you folks a chance to participate. This is going to be a public 'research project' with rewards, including some drach charms!

I know you're not reading the interesting part before i spit out how you get a reward anyway, so here it goes: I'll give out shiny rewards merely based on my personal likings. You can improve your chances by adding interesting parts to this project or by giving reasons why someone else is likely wrong, and others can improve your chances by giving a thumbs-up to your posts, but i won't give too much thought about your ratings. The main part is participating and showing off that you can draw conclusions and connections in an MD way.

    Now, here's the fun bit:
You folks surely know about the Aramory. Some of you might also know about War Hold. In my opinion, those two locations are proof for a fairly clear bit of history. What story might that be, and more importantly, can you provide evidence that supports your version of events?

You might want to read up on "the cube", the connections between the lands, and the history of golemus and loreroot before you start discussing. Also, while there is no 'wrong' theory in MD, you might want to have a convincing opinion before posting, lest you wish to be scolded by a bunch of research cracks. Yeah, we still have those.

Also, last but not least, i encourage everyone to participate in the research efforts, but i'll only bestow rewards on players with less than 1000 active days. Bring it on, upcoming research elite!

It sounds like your concepts are very... work-intensive, given that all of this would be almost entirely un-used. Only very few people die, even though those few have a tendency to die over and over, while about 95% of MD only ever died in torch contests, for 5 minutes. And out of those who die, more than half get resurrected in no time...
There's only a very, very little fragment of global game-time is spent dead. It's not that great for the few who die over and over again and don't get resurrected, yes, but i'd rather see features for everyone rather than a lot of time sunk in features the vast majority doesn't ever see.

Burns got a reaction from Dragual in Third Step: Getting stuff done!
Even the most creative minds can get stuck when their ideas can't be integrated. Thus, a proper Drachorn Guy also needs to be able to effectively convince other people that their ideas are great, so they'll be implemented.

This isn't limited to huge things, though. Sometimes you just need somebody to help you with a particular html thingy that you're not capable of doing on your own (Thanks, Chewie!), at other times you need access to certain spells that you don't have on your own (Thanks, dst and Grido!), or to places you can't reach on your own (Thanks, Azull!). All those things are easy to do when you're on good terms with someone, and not so easy to do when you're not.

For this part, we'll pretend you need something from somebody you rarely ever talk to. In fact, from 3 somebodys you rarely ever talk to, because that thing you wanna do takes a whole lot of effort.
Pretend that you're planning a very big quest, with puzzles, racing, and hunting pink mice. The whole package.

Person A has access to a certain place in land N, which you don't. You still want your treasure hunt to go through there, though, so you'll have to convince him to either:
-work for you, and stand in that place himself, or
-let you into that place, which he greatly dislikes because you don't belong to his sacred ground.

Person C has vast knowledge of HTML, which you don't. You want your quest to use picture-puzzle in a clickable, but you don't know how to set up any of that, so you'll have to convince him to either:
    -do it for you, or
-show you how to figure out how to do it yourself.

Person M is the only one who can do concept changes to MD (i'm pretty good at hiding whom i talk about, right?). For your whole quest to work out, you need to have the power to turn drachorn into wind dragons, so you have to convince M to:
    -give you that power, or
-give you any form of temporary access to that power.

You don't talk to any of them on a regular basis. Person A is known to respond to roleplay and the exchange of favors, Person C is analytic and helps when the cost-benefit calculation works out, and Person M responds best to solid game-related reasoning.

You only get one shot with all of them, so make sure to give it your very best.

Luckily you figured that out on time for your questing efforts, so you can take up to 2 weeks to figure out how to best approach them.
Discussions with everybody you feel like discussing with are absolutely encouraged. A good drachorn guy doesn't need to do things all by himself, you can rely on your trusted friends and have them help you with such things.

Send me 1 PM with your attempts to convince A, C and M (one attempt each) to help you out by January 30th.

    * Any resemblance of quest-characters to actual characters within the world of MD is purely intentional, but not to be taken seriously.

Burns got a reaction from Dragual in Drachorn Apprentice
Today, as i climbed out of my Lair to check the latest news, i've realized that i started doing the one thing i never wanted: Despite my name, I'm fading away.

Once upon a time, i've had discussions with Morgana le'Fey about the meaning of life, i've forged plan to sabotage head contests after hearing that Amoran should get a second chance just because MRV and Lighty played better than her, i've been the last Wodin and extorted Mur to close the account, i went to MP6 and put a 180 hour movelock on Akasha within 5 days of deciding that i'd like to do that, i won quests, i made quests... I used to be an adventurer, illusionist, and daredevil, and i dare say that i was amongst the best.

But today, as i stepped out on my front porch and read the papers about some wanna-be, whom i wouldn't even send to fetch my bathwater for fear that he might unknowingly draw it from Khal's chamberpot, getting named King of the Maze, i took a sip of drachorn tea and moved on without the smallest of shrugs.

This is not my world anymore. I've played my part, and i'm looking forward to being the grumpy old master, sitting in my comfortable rocking chair, and silently laugh about the quarrels of the kids playing at being king in the yard... But there is one more thing that must be done, one last scene to be played before my script ends.

I've been the Drachorn Guy for a long time, but to become a true Drachorn Master, i need an apprentice. And with this thread, i want to announce that a plan that has been made over a year ago is now being set in motion: I will pick an apprentice, who might hopefully one day be my successor. I will give them shinies, both from my inventory and from the lair, i will try to introduce them to the right people, and i will try to make them be almost as good as me, so that, once i'm out of the way, they might become the best drachorn master MD ever saw.

To find one, i'll start a series of little 'quests', which are barely even quests in a mechanical sense, but which will hopefully reveal the best apprentice. I'll see to update this thread regularly with my thoughts about the candidates.

+1 to dst, if you have more than 1 drachorn in your inventory, the wish mutates a random one. If you provide a fresh drachorn for it, and the benefactors of this deal already has a raised one, it's a 50-50 thing that he'll lose his drachorn and end up with two fresh hatchlings, one gg and one wind.

Burns reacted to Aeoshattr in Creature Artwork Gallery (?)
Though I'm not entirely certain if this was suggested or not before in the same form (I.E. I might just be a pain in the butt for mods and "repost" an older topic) I had this idea.

Would it be acceptable (by all non-spoiler, etc) standards to have a "creature artwork" gallery feature, similar to other games? Right now, this is how I envision it working:

Availability: Free (everyone has it by default) $$ Shop (Extra Features) Once the feature is unlocked/purchased , there are 2 options: It is completely blank. Has ALL the creature families and levels mentioned in it (but they're blacked/greyed out or contain no information whatsoever.) In order to unlock (and save) the artwork for the creatures, a player must level them. Once levelled, the artwork (maybe description + stats + abilities too?) is made available to view in the gallery. IDEA: The current "creature cards" (Such as Angien Card) could be used (for the Free option mentioned in 1.) to unlock a creature family in the gallery, which then the player can "populate" with artwork by levelling said creature. (In other words: player uses Aramor Card. Aramor Card unlocks "Aramor" family in gallery. Player then has to level an Aramor, an Imp, etc etc for the artwork to be "stored" in the gallery.)
Is this acceptable? I figure the artwork gallery can be kept private (not public like the bestiary) and that would reduce its spoiler-ish nature.
Plus this suggests a use for the creature cards.

Thoughts and feedback much appreciated :)

P.S. I also think that if a player already has a maxed creature (say an Aramor  Assassin) when the feature is implemented, it should unlock the artwork for all levels of the creature? (this is assuming the feature actually gets far enough into development for this to be an issue).

Burns got a reaction from Eagle Eye in Fourth Step: The Quest!
This is most likely the hardest bit for any player at all, but if you hold on to one of the bigger rewards the game has to offer, you need to be able to make enjoyable quests.

That doesn't mean you need to do it all on your own. For example, i've teamed up with Nimrodel to produce her big story-driven quests, and before i got access to the charms, i regularly built quests in cooperation with others. Sometimes you run out of ideas an need to get creative input from somewhere, or you need people to play roles in your quests.

Since this is the biggest, and most time-intensive part, i've picked this one to run in february, when most students should have a the biggest amount of time to spare, and the least amount of exams coming closer. It's going to run for 6 weeks, which means it's well into the time when i'll have the hardest time to be around and help you, but i'm fairly sure i can work that out :)

Your task is to fashion a quest that you would consider worth a drachorn charm. You need to make a design, you need to figure out how it could work, and you need to have everything ready to execute it, too. If it requires coded clickies, make sure to have everything in order so it can start on short notice, if it requires people to work during the quest, plan for the execution during march.

I'll be reachable via forum PM to help you along whenever you need it, but i won't do the clickies for anybody. My job is to help you do it yourself, not to do it for you. If you require me to play a small part in your quest, however, i'll behave like any other player, which also means i might deny helping you out if i'm not happy with the role you want to give me.

This is a huge task, don't underestimate it. The bad part is, if you think about it all the time, you'll narrow down into a tunnel and be unable to fulfil the creative elements a quest needs.

I want all participants to be ready to execute their quests by March 15th. The only reason i can't let you run them as you like is because i don't want to flood MD with 3-5 different quests in the second week of March, if some of you are finished before that time, we can start doing them earlier, otherwise we'll look for a scheduling that befits your other obligations.

And make sure to keep me in the loop of the things you're doing. I don't want to hear about every single idea you're bouncing around, but when you're confident that you found a good design, that'd be a good time to PM me. I'm here to help you, not just to judge you. :)

    Happy quest-making!

Burns got a reaction from dst in Recruiting from 'unlockable' places
Not recruiting during death makes sense, but you can also make an argument that it would make sense thematically, even more so at the Necro graveyard :))

About the general thing, though, it's a pretty nice feature to have places locked, but the recruitment open. If you tie teleports to selected roles, like the kings and gravekeepers for Necro and island-keepers for MB, you open up the option to give out creatures to people without the requirement of trading them, and you can have them actually use the recruit-requirements, too, which would be bypassed if the creature is taken and traded.
It adds value to the roles connected to them, and can be used as teaser, too: Think of an MP4 invited to the angien shrine and maybe seeing a full grown angien in action, that should give them plenty incentive to do some grinding to get to the big boys. It's a completely different feeling than just giving it out by trade.
