1.
i vaguely planned a maze like the one in the Grim Tuesday book every x amount of time you would get teleported to another location, in my idea, it would look exactly the same as the location you just left
Any or all of what has been described in the posts above can be done in the astral plane. There is already one maze in necro, another that will be opening soon in gg wraiths wreck. I would be willing to work with people to do a new maze and randomly or (apparently random) teleporting could be implemented. If there was a storyline to go along with it that would be much better. Cheers, Cutler
2. I upgraded it to the second to the last level all in one go and then waited for enough age to max. So the problem could be with the vampire level. Cutler
3.
ok i have only noticed this recently. I have a TS at vampire stage. he has 36 wins needed before leveling up. if i have this creature in a rit he wont gain a win from the battel. Nor will any other creature in the same ritual. I even took the TS out of the rit and tried the attack and all creatures gained a win but if i use the TS he will not gain a win. (i think it found a fountain of uth or something ) This is anoying as thinking back i have been useinf him in my rits for weeks now this meens i could have had my other creatures leveld a while ago >.< anyways can anyone else confirm or deny this happing to them?
I just finished upgrading my TS last month and didn't see the effect you are describing. Cutler
4.
i have now watered bob on the astral plane 163,954 times, and no i didn't add any extra digits to that
Ahhh but the real test is how many times you have tried to kill bob! Cutler
5.
That would delete all? Or per item in the list? Cos i'd like to be able to delete by item And does it matter where i put that? Also, odd request, where would i put about if the information retunred was null, not telling me the blank information? I want a nice admin interface, but i might work on that once i have all the ''essentials'' sorted first
I used several different kinds of user data storage in some of my recent quests. If you look at my "what number am I WP Quest" at the talking rock, one of the options is a stats page which tells how many times people have completed each leg of this quest. For this I used a simple numbered array for the 12 legs and then a few higher array entries to store things like names of people who completed the quest, etc. If you want to zero out an entry you can always just change the value of the particular entry you want changed, you don't need to reset the entire storage. @vl = mds_storage("whatnum-storage-all",'aoau'); @vs = @storage[@vl]; // @vs[15]=""; // @vs[1]= 0; I used the 1-12 to store how many people solved each of the 12 legs and then [13] to record how many people completed the quest. [14] stored the names of the people completing the quest so I could echo it out later. [15] stored the name of the first person to win a WP, so I had to clear it out a few times to test the routines which is why I have that line commented out. You should also remember that PHP arrays start at [0] not [1] so I stored how many different people had started my quest there (up to 238 as of today). If you use a simple array like this, it can make printing out your results easy since you can use loops as well, for example: for(@va=1;@va<13;@va++){ echo @vs[@va]; if(@vs[@va] == 1){echo " person ";} else{echo " people ";} echo "completed clue ".@va."<br>"; } In my astral plane quests, I used the same idea, but used an associative array since there were many different elements I wanted to keep track of and key value pairs can make it easier to see what the storage is for. Cheers, Cutler PS if you update the array, don't forget to put the storage save command somewhere near the bottom of your code. Also make sure you don't change the value of the location reference (@vl) or it won't work. @storage[@vl]=@vs;
6. There already is a WP obtainable creature, the ghost joker which only costs 1 WP. It is (if I remember correctly) unlocked once you have spent 2-3 other wishpoints in the shop. There are several "creature" ideas floating around for new creatures. I guess I am unsure why making it linked to WPs is a draw, but I am all for new creatures in MD and making things more interesting and diverse. So what are the creature abilities that this creature would have? Cutler
7. Yeah, I guess I can add you guys as well Cheers, Cutler
8. Now that there are lots of options for spending wp giving a few out every year doesn't seem to be such a big issue. It is also possible for Mur to create more wishpoint rewards so that there are new things people can use their wishpoints on. I personally know that it is hard to both do quests and make them. When I earned most of my wishpoints I wasn't making quests and recently I have just been giving lots of wishpoints out. But I am out of wishpoints to gift so maybe it is time to go back and try to get a few more. It is kind of annoying the debug account kicked me out of the top 2-3. I am still looking forward to new wishpoint categories to spend some of those hard earned wp's on. Cheers, Cutler
9. Congrats on finding the vault I am Bored. Even finding it through random clicking is still impressive. If I ever do get the 25x25x25 maze completed though I think that route will be dramatically less likely to work So I am planning on closing the howling gates door on day 340. Only people who have set Necrovion as their home land, are in a Necro alliance, or have made bob bloom will be freely able to enter the necro astral plane after that date. (Unless something else comes up like another quest) So if you want to keep access to the Necro astral plane, you still have two days to water Bob, complete the maze or join the sentinels I am willing to add content to the astral plane besides what I am developing for future quests. If there is something you would like to see, feel free to PM me to suggest it or leave a message here. Cheers, Cutler
10. Yeah I made the popups like that to be annoying on purpose. That way people who figured out exactly where to check wouldn't have to deal with them and people who just randomly clicked would get tired :-) You surpassed my expectation for clicking endurance. Cheers, Cutler
11. So over the last month I put together a few quests with a variety of different formats for people to try out and I thought I would post the results of those quests to both let people know how they turned out and hopefully get some feedback on what people thought about them. If people could respond here about what you particularly liked, disliked, or what worked well or maybe would have been better if done differently, I will think about that for future quests. In this quest I continued the necrovion astral plane adventure. When Asterdai first gained access to the astral House of Tainted Times he found a sealed and encrypted message which was the back story for this astral plane quest. Mighty Pirate was the first person to break the decryption on this message and received a WP for being able to do so. The body of this message is copied below. The message was encrypted using a Vignere cipher with a 24 length key. I also made the encrypted message available to anyone who had gained access to the house of tainted times one day earlier than for everyone else as a bonus for completing the first quest. Once Mighty Pirate decrypted the message, I opened up access to the House of Tainted Times 3D Maze and posted the body of the decrypted text. When people first entered the 3D maze they could only move forward and backward along 5 cubes. At the furthest cube there was a signpost which activated being able to move right. This allowed people to move forward, backward and right and eventually be locked in a single square with another signpost which opened up going left. I wanted people to have a chance to learn how to navigate the maze as they were first trying it out so this was a kind of instruction period. Eventually people learned they could travel up, down, right, left, back and forward and were sent to follow a single path which dead ended at another signpost which opened up the full maze. As people explored the maze, there were a few dead ends which gave hints as to what to do, opened new possibilities (like search the walls of the cube), find the secret passage to Sages Keep, and eventually have enough info to find the hidden vault hidden in the maze which was protecting the most vulnerable soul cubes for MD. I rewarded 3 WP for the first three people who were able to find the vault: Yoshi Cless Udgard and honorable mention to people who had already received a WP from me but were able to solve the secret of the 3D maze. asryn tankfans asterdai I was really impressed that so many people were able to find the hidden vault in the maze, this was a difficult task. In this quest I wanted to extend the astral plane and try out more interactive methods to have people interact within MD. I had some more ideas about things to do with the maze, but when it reached the point it is now, I decided it was already difficult and had a huge amount of work in it so sometimes it is best to just finish so people can enjoy (hopefully) what is already there. In the near future, I plan to close the howling gates entrance to the necro astral plane to casual entrance. The only people who will have unlimited access will be: 1) People in a necrovion alliance 2) People who have chosen Necrovion as their home land 3) Friends of Bob (have made bob bloom) so they can continue to do so 4) People who have found the hidden path from Sages Keep to the House of Tainted Times so they will be able to reenter that way anytime. I also plan to add access to GG for people in GG based alliances/land and at some point for loreroot for people in loreroot alliances/land choice. I have lots of ideas for future quests and would like to try out a few new directions to develop the astral plane as well. Unfortunately I am out of WP at the moment so until I get some more my future quests may have to be just for the fun of doing them (if that is enough of a reward) I would also be open to expanding the astral plane quest chains in new directions if people have any new ideas or would like to have some more interactive locations. A few possible ideas already in work -- making an interactive wishing well in no mans land, making more MD based click type puzzles, having new 3D mazes to gain access to new locations (I have a 25x25x25 maze in the works), possible boat rides and/or air balloon rides to expand ways to travel about MD, lots of new ways to die in the astral plane. So how do people like the continued development of the astral plane? Is it something which should be continued or not? Cheers, Cutler PS The body of the decrypted message is copied below. We never thought this would happen. When we first learned that every living thing has a physical soul in the astral plane, it gave us such hope to know that there was proof of survival after physical death. Some of our initial research even proved that it is possible to bring people back to life that had died. Each living beings life exists as a cube on the astral plane. By shocking a cube in the right way of someone who died, their life was found to restart on the physical plane. If only it could have ended there. Some of our darker brethren decided to test the opposite hypothesis, could damage to the astral cube hurt or even kill someone in the real world. It started as a simple if evil set of murders of people disliked by many. Their astral cubes were burned to ash and their lives were snuffed out. What nobody knew was that no cube existed alone. When one cube was destroyed sometimes four, five or up to six other living beings died as well. Each cube was connected to other cubes, sometimes to friends or plants or animals which lived close to the target. It was unclear. So we wanted to know how the cubes were connected. Cubes of every type of living creature were gathered and destroyed to try to find a pattern in the connections. For some reason, some cubes seemed to hold the soul for not just a creature, but large groups of living things. We couldn’t believe that the destruction of a single cube killed all of the grass for miles around the House of Sage Research. Piece by piece the land began to die, and we couldn’t stop it. So we locked the path from the house of sage research to Sages Keep and walled what has become known as Necrovion to stop the creeping death. As a badge of our shame we have renamed the House of Sage Research to the House of Tainted Times. Since any cubes residing on the astral plane are vulnerable to being damaged or manipulated, we created one of the strongest magic wards ever known to transport new soul cubes to the real world to protect them from harm. Then as a final step we locked away the astral plane so it couldn’t be misused by the unwary. With the soul cubes in the real world and the astral plane locked away, the progressing death of the real world was limited to what is now being called Necrovion. It is too late, but now we know that some cubes are special, they contain the life of a land, or connect not a few but many people together. These cubes can never be allowed to be abused again. We have collected the most vulnerable such cubes and locked them away here in the astral plane. For this is a power too dangerous to be played with again. Only the most insightful of souls should be allowed to handle these cubes again, and we do not trust even ourselves. Our research has killed this land, and that cannot be allowed to happen again. If these cubes are ever needed again, only one who truly understands the connections between all living creatures and their cubes will be able to unlock them from their sanctuary. To do so, enter the House of Tainted Times and speak aloud the old now all but lost name of our home “House of Sage Research”. This will allow access to the maze, but beware only one of subtle understanding and great insight will unlock its mysteries and many will never leave alive. If you are of clear conscience and do not seek power over others, it might be best to lock this message away and not reveal what you have learned, leave this sleeping power undisturbed. Using real history and trying to keep the To complete the quest people had to enter the astral plane and interact with a bunch of the locations in necro to gain items and complete tasks which eventually opened up the house of tainted times. There were several distinct quest chains including 1) fixing the house of tainted times clock, 2) finding the stars to rebuild the house of tainted times tiles, 3) cleaning the jug / (helping out Bob). When people had completed most parts of these different quest chains, it became possible to activate the tiles in front of the house of tainted times. This activated two "dominoe" type puzzles, which people had to solve to gain entry to the house of Tainted Times.
12.
I think Zleip was kidding xD Anyways, I really loved the Astral Plane, and I hope to see more ^^
Actually its not possible to exorcise the spirit, but it is possible to make friends with him which gets the spirit to help you get water from the well. I have updated the Astral plane quite a bit since I released the first astral plane quest back on day 320. There are still lots of directions it can head, for example the last quest (which I will be starting a new topic shortly). Cheers, Cutler
13. In this quest I presented the necrovion astral plane. To complete the quest people had to enter the astral plane and interact with a bunch of the locations in necro to gain items and complete tasks which eventually opened up the house of tainted times. Asterdai was the first person to complete all of the quest chains plus the two "domino" puzzles and to receive a Wishpoint. The astral plane also could kill people if they made bad choices on some of the quest chains, but this only lead to a 1 day lack of access to the astral plane. Overall, 226 people (with some alts) have entered the astral plane more than 1,550 times since this quest was opened. Bob has also been made to bloom on numerous occasions. This quest was basically a way for me to present my idea about the astral plane and show some of the things that could be done with it. Cutler
14. In this quest, people had to go to the talking rock to start the quest. I used the talking rock as the "grand central station" of the quest and each person was initially told that there were 12 clues to a number you had to determine. Each clue sent people out to a clickable where they had to solve one of the twelve different logic games I made over the last few months. When people solved one of the logic games, that made a different color appear in MD and a new hint was revealed at the talking rock. After revealing all of the 12 hints, I programmed a text box to appear where people could submit their guess and if correct win the quest / activate the puzzle arcade. I also wanted to keep track of which games were played the most and how often / who had won what games so I put up a statistics page which showed the number of people completing each one of the 12 logic games. I had planned to give out 3 WP to the first three people to complete the quest, but due to a misplaced quote in my code, the first four people were told they won a WP so I gave all four a WP for being the first to finish the quest: asryn tankfans kafuuka smartalekrj This quest is still available and people continue to solve different hint legs on a daily basis. To date nine people have completed all of the logic games and correctly guessed the number which activated the puzzle arcade for them so they can play new versions of any of the 12 logic games within MD whenever they want. These nine people are: asryn, tankfans, kafuuka, smartalekrj, pipstickz, Mighty Pirate, xyxVULCANxyx, flangilaportium, rylailina Also on the stats page are the total number of people starting the quest 209 people (included are some alts) with the number completing each leg: 74 people completed clue 1 37 people completed clue 2 46 people completed clue 3 48 people completed clue 4 35 people completed clue 5 30 people completed clue 6 29 people completed clue 7 19 people completed clue 8 27 people completed clue 9 25 people completed clue 10 30 people completed clue 11 29 people completed clue 12 I plan to leave this quest up and running for new people or people who just need a break and want to play one of the logic puzzle games. I know personally I have gotten addicted to a few of them and play them regularly myself even though I programmed them This was my first quest to use the new MDscripting functions and I wanted to try to make a fully automated scripted quest that used the clickable items and gave some more options to play logic games like the broken pattern gazebo puzzle.
15.
Wouldnt it be easier to generate a page from the database, add a field as "approved" and just limit it by 10, then unapprove it when someone changes it, it would make it easier if you wanted to check it again
I can see a good idea when I read one. Motion seconded!!
16. Ahhhh, When I saw Mur mentioned that there were script or html errors I got sidetracked into thinking about that. Sure I would be happy to help with that. Cheers, Cutler
17. Sure I will help with some. Probably at least a thousand of those are my script logs for putting together the last two MDscripted quests. Does it make a log ever time there is an error? If so maybe more like 5000 of those logs are mine. Cutler
18. A note on user variables, the current list of variables which can be accessed through MDscript miss a couple of useful possibilities. Now that principles can be changed and have a maximum value of 4000, knowing what principles a user actually have could be useful for quests and not just as a battle booster. It would be great if there was a function which could test if a user has a particular principle. It could even be done as: mds_has_principle('light'); for example in the same vein as testing for keys. To me it doesn't really matter what the value of the principle is just whether someone has it or not. Some really interesting quest possibilities could be linked in to let people with the proper "skill set" pursue different quest threads. I think this addition would be a great move towards making principles actually have a more general value than just attack boosting. Another function which seems missing is MD year. you can get the day with date('z') but when the newyear comes all of my date scripts will stop working since the day will go back to 0. having something give the year would resolve this Y2K type issue. Cheers, Cutler
19. With the opening of the House of Tainted Times in the Astral Plane to any and all who wanted to enter, the encoded message was examined by over 27 people since day 329. Although many people seemed to have some ideas about how the text had been encoded, only one person Mighty Pirate was able to crack the code on the encrypted message congratulations on winning your WP Mighty Pirate. Mighty Pirate described how he was able to break the code: How I did it: - I had an idea of which words translate to "House of Tainted Times". - I guessed that this is some sort of cyclic code since small words appear at different locations. - I was looking for something connected to time, e.g. "12" or "24". - I found out that a code of length 24 works. - I tried some parts manually the rest with some help from Excel ;-) The key of length 24 was : inthehouseoftaintedtimes Using Mighty Pirates insights the full body of the encrypted text was deciphered and is copied below. As you will see, this text hints at a maze in the astral house of tainted times. Now that we know to look for it, it should be possible to open a passage to the location described in the text. The entrance to this maze will open on day 331 for any and all to try to explore. The first 3 people who are able to solve the secret of the maze will be rewarded a WP. 21. The scroll found in the House of Tainted times has been transcribed to a less fragile vessel and will shortly be available for all to view in the House of Tainted Times. For those who have already gained access to the inside of the House of Tainted Times, you will be able to view the encrypted message on day 329. For those unable to gain entrance to the House of Tainted Times, I will post the encrypted message here on day 330. There is still one more day to try to gain access to the House of Tainted Times for those who have not yet been able to enter. The first person to break the code on the message will receive a WishPoint. Cheers, Cutler
22. I was trying to test to see if a key exists in an array with the function : array_key_exists() which is listed as a supported PHP function, but it throws an MD error saying key_exists is not allowed. Can this be updated? Cutler
23. So it seems that Asterdai has been exploring the necrovion astral plane and has discovered an entrance into the House of Tainted Times. When Asterdai first entered the House of Tainted Times he found a sealed scroll which had been left for the first person to gain entrance there. Fortunately, the scroll had only been slightly damaged by the long time it had laid undiscovered. Work continues on discovering the properties and working of the astral plane. Hopefully as more research is completed, further insights will be revealed in the astral plane. For now, the scroll presents a mystery, which I am willing to reward anyone who is able to help discover the meaning. On day 330, I will reveal the contents of this scroll within the foyer of the House of Tainted Times in the astral plane for any who are interested in deciphering its message. Anyone who is able to gain access to the House of Tainted Times before then may also gain some early insights into the ancient culture which produced this scroll. If anyone has seen any additional anomalies in the astral plane or other places in the real MD in which the astral plane has broken through I would be very interested in hearing what you observed. Cheers, Cutler
