Would that be valid if someone else other than you (or someone holding a function similar to yours in MD) had done it?
-
I see what you mean, Chewett. And I know it's not my place to say how MD should be run. However the way the last announcement reads makes it feel like the Council is very dismissive in a sort of "we can't be bothered to do anything about this so we'll put it on the community's shoulders, knowing that there is little to nothing that the community can do". No really, I would genuinely like to know what was in the council's mind when they suggested "social" solutions to incidents like Eon forcibly teleporting/locking/killing people. I truly can't think of any "social" thing that would phase Eon, especially given the motivation quoted in dst's post. This is an aspect that rather bothers me, but I believe it's best not to get into it as it's beyond the purpose of this topic, IMO.

My bad! I was convinced he was sponsoring the rewards. EDIT: Realised that came from his previous post about the Ring Logs, in which he stated that he would reward silver to those that find out who the "Master" is. The hypocrisy part wasn't directed at you, dst, moreso to the community and the general "You're not active enough" excuse - bad phrasing, for which I take the blame. I am curious what you blacked out in the third row there, however. Nevertheless, I hope I got a point across. My issue here is with the council, not directly with what Eon and/or other accomplices did.

Well, I figure this is likely to start a flame war, but I really don't want to let this go. Here's the permalink, if you haven't read the announcement yet: http://magicduel.com/page/Announcement/view/3170 TL;DR: Council won't do anything about DD's quest being disrupted by Dst and her lot. Just for the sake of clarity: I am NOT involved in either part - I didn't take part in DD's quest and thus wasn't tossed around the place by Eon and Dst. However, I personally believe this announcement shows lack of integrity - and if I may, cowardice - from the council. As much as I dislike making personal statements, I believe a lot of people will agree that Dst is not swayed by "nice words" and "making friends" - Knowing you, dst, I believe you can confirm that as I genuinely don't mean that as an offense. Furthermore, I happily invite people to try and socialise with Eon in game. So far, I have only seen him/her reply either with "." or with "Eon rolls the dice and gets X". Thus the suggestions of the council are downright Bull in this case. My issue here is with the decision of the council - to be clear. I am 100% convinced that there is no "social" method that can act against the culprits of this case. In my opinion, the conflict between Dst and DD is downright childish and has gone on for long enough. However it's none of my business - and I wouldn't have posted this, if this whole teleporting and disruption would've been only upon DD. Again, don't get me wrong DD: I am not saying by any means that what happened was fair, but I could have understood if you were the only one tossed around the place. However, all quest participants were teleported around, which interfered more with THEM than with DD. As far as I know, DD was handing rewards from his own inventory - so the way I see it, in disrupting the quest you enable him to keep his valuables and actually prevent the newbies that NEED them from getting them. The offense, IMO, is not upon DD but upon the quest participants. EDIT: Also, it's extraordinarily hypocritical to yell "YOU NEED TO BE ACTIVE" and then skull-bash people that actually try and get some people moving around by holding quests :). So the way I see it, the council is simply afraid to take any decision against dst or Eon or, for that matter, against hardcore vets like them. Do I have any suggestions on what punishment should be? No. Do I think the Council's motivation is weak? Yes. My point is - I am not against there not being a sanction in this case, but if so, then it requires a stronger motivation than the one given, and IMO, those resolution suggestions shouldn't have been given in the first place. Makes it seem like the Council has no idea who they're talking about or doing a poor job in general. A social problem can be solved by other means, if social means fail (which I believe in the given case have failed LONG ago.).

If you have been working on it, then I will happily look at it and analyse it. That is bizarre. I did, indeed, leave chat messages when you didn't appear idle but didn't get replies. I assumed you were afk and that you'd see them later. I also used the status/mood panel a number of times, for broader advertising as well, but never got a single message back. Yes, the sermon was meant to be spontaneous. I did say what the topics should be, how it should be graded, how time should be spent and what path it should follow. I didn't want it to be a "copy-paste" lecture. I wanted improvisation, creativity. Yes, I agree: overall, the event turned out reasonably well. However, I remember the people that mostly guided the conversation being Sunfire and Lady Renata (whom I had to specifically ask IRL to do this for me even though she was uninvolved). Yes, you and Legna contributed to the discussion, which was great! But it didn't seem like you were leading it. However I don't think Lady Ren was there when you started the sermon in my place, thus I do not know how your part went, only what followed after Ren's arrival. It turned out alright, in the end, I think, however it could have been much better. Which is what I had planned in the first place. Guiding the conversation and grading it according to the scene it was taking place into. I am not saying people showed no interest. However the interest felt short-lived and it felt like I was dragging people along with me, rather than walking along a common path with them. Yes, Powle, you showed interest and I agree with that. Legna showed massive amounts of interest and sent loads of ideas my way. But it would take more than that. In the end: As stated in my previous post, I will happily attempt this once more. The groundwork is set. However, I do believe a "minimum number" of players that I need in order for this to be considered a success would be helpful. The player base is small, and I sadly cannot gather as many as I would want to. Thus it would be a lot more effective to have a small, but tightly knit group.

What's the most fun thing for you to do in MD?
Aeoshattr replied to Rophs's topic in Questions and Answers
Roleplay, if not obvious. When it comes to roleplay, I prefer abstract, mentally challenging RP as opposed to casual; furthermore, I enjoy similarly themed conversations. -
As it would be unfair not to let the public know, I hereby officially give up on reviving CoE, at least until the player base increases (which may just as well be long after I'm dead and buried.) or until I am sought for the task by people that want to put effort into it along with me. The main reason is disappointment with the applicants, and I will list some of the reasons below, briefly. 1. Not a single task was completed by any applicant. 2. Not a single applicant bothered to report any progress on given tasks, even though I asked multiple times. 3. Applicants were unable to carry out the first (and only) sermon for 30 mins - 1 hr during which I was locked in GoC. To sum it up, people were interested in being slapped with a badge, without putting effort into it. For (1) and (2) I have already allowed... 2-3 months? If not more? My main fault: 1. Failed to carry out subsequent sermons, due to difficulty matching up timezones with other applicants and due to IRL interfering with my schedule and due to disappointment with lack of interest from people. I can only do so much work myself. I wrote up the manifesto. I created a webpage for the alliance. I tried advertising. I initiated a number of members. I set out their pilgrimages. I tried to hold a sermon, was restrained, and asked (naturally) the members to carry it out without me - needing to resort to a completely uninvolved IRL friend to keep things going. I am more than willing to lead an effort, but I will not drag people after me. The work is not only mine, and I couldn't even do it all by myself in the first place. Furthermore, there would be no point in me doing all the work. An alliance is about people and working together, not about the ideals of one person. I am strongly convinced that even if I did do every single bit of work by myself, the Council would not revive the CoE as it would be considered only my work, and not that of a community of people seeking to be recognized as an alliance. Yes, it was a major caveat in my initial plan: lack of players. Perhaps if the player base was larger, there would be more people interested, and odds would be that from those people some would actually put effort into it. I will be more than happy to take the role up once more, but only if I am specifically asked to by other interested players who are willing to work along with me.

What does the fall of GoTR mean to you personally?
Aeoshattr replied to Chewett's topic in Guardians of the Root
I will be the odd one out (so far) and say that the alliance must not be revived. Just about -any- alliance currently out there can fall under the "but they're not doing anything" accusation. The only "thematic" event I've recently seen (though again, it might be my memory failing me) was the slave auction, which does indeed seem very necrovian, but even so, it was organised by Necro as a whole (I believe) rather than explicitly by the Tainted Warriors. If I am wrong here, please point it out. @ Sunfire: At any rate, I am monstrously disappointed with you, Sunfire. This may very well be me being rather impulsive right now, and I admit that, but either way, that does not change the fact that this essentially classifies as treason. You were allowed to stay in the GotR on the basis of trust and hope that you would return to the game - at least as far as I am aware. I will say no more on the matter, and I will say no more to -you-, for that matter as well. @Rophs: Possibly, but not really. It should fall under the Woodcutters, as the resources of LR fall under their jurisdiction, both harvesting and guarding, IMO. GotR should be more of a "Loreroot defense" alliance as a whole, as the name suggests, rather than "resource police". Finally, to get to my point. I believe the alliance should stay dead. Why? I have two main reasons, which I will try and argument below. 1. People have a general dislike for LR. I could call out names, but again, my memory might fail me and I wouldn't want to point fingers pointlessly. Whether they dislike the land, people within, or there is simply a need for a scapegoat for all the hate in the realm and LR simply happens to be the weakest land and has to take it - that I do not know. There is a certain stigma to LR based on its past, and that is something incredibly difficult to change, even though 90% or more (ass-pulled statistic) of the people currently in LR aren't the one that brought the stigma upon it in the first place. Revival of GotR will not change how people think of LR. At best, there will be more such "tests" until there is nothing left to beat out of LR; there will always be more "tests" and "opinions" as to whom is a legitimate leader or how a LR leader should act, or what LR should and shouldn't do as a whole. I have utterly no reason to prove anything to anyone, and I believe nobody in LR has to justify anything to anyone, for that matter. Thus I strongly believe this has nothing to do with any sort of "opportunity" for LR to prove its activity or whatnot. 2. Whomever (to refrain from calling names that I'm sure people are well aware of) killed the alliance has the possibility of doing it over and over again with little to no effort. It took no more than 4-5 hours, and even if I am wrong, it took no longer than 24 hrs to bring it down. It will take -months- (as I don't believe the Council will be swayed by a 24 hr burst of activity) of effort to bring it back. I don't mean running around when you have -massive- Briskness and passing heat to a protector or fighting or similar activities, which take little involvement or actual effort. This will take coordinating people for activities, which is bloody difficult. Getting a group of more than 3 people to coordinate for something is incredibly difficult, if you take into consideration the gaping timezone difference between most of the former GotR members. Furthermore, the player base is ridiculously low as it is, thus this might just as well be "putting up a show for an empty hall". There is FAR too much effort to put into reviving the alliance, and it could (and probably will) all be for nothing - months of effort can be brought down in 24 hrs or less. It is not worth it, it is humiliating and demeaning. I haven't got the slightest reason to work just to be brought down for sh*ts and giggles or some other "noble" method of reviving the realm, and I believe all Lorerootians should share that view. I don't think we should bend and struggle to prove ourselves to the community. I don't believe we have any reason to justify anything to anyone, especially regarding internal matters (i.e who our leaders are and how LR alliances conduct themselves). Finally, again, regarding some arguments and conditions that I've seen such as "support" and "activity" which I believe are unachievable, to the extent demanded. There are far too few players currently playing the game. Whatever activity is stirred will probably look very unimpressive, even though it might just as well be the very best possible with the given player base. In the end, I state once more, I believe the alliance should stay dead. If people want it dead, then so be it. I will not work my bum off just to prove myself to someone just because someone arbitrarily decided that GotR is the one alliance out there that is slacking and that really needs to kick up its activity. I believe it should be LR's problem what LR does and if there's anything LR's leaders should stand up for it should be THAT, not doing what outsiders believe LR should do. Major caveat: I am mildly infuriated. -
I fail to see why you would feel accused then. No names were called, no fingers were pointed. Your manners aren't exactly impeccable either, as Mya did not make any personal statements, whereas you do. Just saying.

Happy birthday Gonzalo!

I am shocked and impressed at the same time.

People do get offended a bit easily, and I sometimes fall into this category too. I have nothing against neg repping, but I do take offense when a post is neg repped and just that. If you disagree with what I say, I would at least like to see your argument. Of course, I also realise that sometimes an explanation post is completely unnecessary, but I hope I got my point across, even with this caveat. To keep it short: I believe neg repping is alright, as long as it's not done simply to hurt/harass people. The community is small and fairly toxic (IMO) and I don't believe it is the moment to drive people away over petty conflicts (such as upsetting someone by neg repping them on the forum). EDIT: 3 hours of sleep in 24 hours left my grammar significantly handicapped. Corrected most errors, I hope.

The teams are only for the event organisers. You can participate in any of the events you like, but you won't effectively have to join a team.

I withdraw. I am already tacitly voted out.
