  1. Please give me some feedback on how you find the current perpetual motion mode vs the previous mode where particles eventually come to a stop. My personal opinion is that this mode allows for more variation and more techniques, especially a better outcome for "waiting" it out. Let me know what you think, so i know if i should change it back or leave it like this.
  2. People that get a wishpoint for their creations and/or efforts to explain how they might be reproduced are: Ailith, Aelis, Aia, Iashtal, Kyphis for now. This contest ends within a week, and i will be more strict for future creations. And there is a change: I am boosting up the rewards, but remove the reward for less awesome creations. I had to change this because many posted trivial creations that maybe look nice but they represent not big effort to reach them.. so, its either wishpoint for creating something very cool and at least trying to explain how to reproduce it.... and i am adding a winner reward, a spell, for whoever gets the most likes (counting any sort of positive votes) (a spell? what spell? .. the heat spell. If you already have the heat spell, you can pick any other except admin spells, summon and chase)
  3. Symetry is harder to achieve than it looks. Perpetual makes things harder? I am not sure about that, i found it to offer new possibilities but i am not convinced yet. Would be nice to hear what others think about it too
  4. tips and tricks: - faith in your plan.. draw shapes even if the result is not visible immediately. What you are drawing are not the particles but you are laying traces on the ground under them. With this technique you can pretty much draw a lot of shapes in a single line - small radius circular motion will create a well defined edge - these are like rivers, plan ahead what streams will build up and what streams will anihilate eachother - nothing gets lost, nothing gets created. All the particles that exit the board will reenter it at a slow speed from the opposite side - when particles are slow, they are less visible. You can counter streams with short opposing motions, this will slow them down and by that they can eventually be "erased" - the more actions you do, the more purpose and speed each particle has, so its increasingly difficult to shape them. Do not waste actions on motions that you are not sure about. You can always start over and do just the motions that result in the desired outcome. UPDATE: I am experimenting with perpetual motion, so the particles will no longer stop , lets see how this is
  5. Those of you that i upvote (currently Aelis and Iashtal) , please see if you can provide instructions to replicate your creations, so i can reward you a wp for them. Its valid for future creations of others too. If you can't provide instructions its alright, there will still be rewards for cool creations such as these (just not wp)
  6. Post here your creations for the contest. Upvotes count for the score. Only creations posted after this entry participate in the contest. I will post mine too, just to give you a target to surpass.
  7. You need to Ctrl+f5 to see the changes, but in a few mins as i am still working on some tweaks
  8. yes there is indeed a distance between streams because there is a width of the pointer moving the particles. Two streams don't really have a distance limit between them, but under the particles there is a grid map of areas that define the movement, and the grid as a defined cell size. There are 58 rows by 68 cols, (it was 60x60 till now) the pointer size was about 1.5 cell size. ..i say was, because i just made some changes for more accurate touches. The smaller height should fit it better on screen, and the increased number of particles should make it look more 'full' . Particle number jumped from 20k to 30k, i am not sure how this will work on less powerfull devices, please let me know if there is too much lag or if it hangs.
  9. Lets see, the next one to get access to this experimental feature will be whoever reads this and contacts me first about it. Luck must certainly play a role in such advanced things
  10. just so i remember it later, my plan for this is to allow anyone to use it, but it will depend wither on your will to learn for yourself, or on the tips&tricks/knowledge on how to use it, if you manage to create required shapes or not. I believe that some patters can look just impossible to do, but with needed information on how to do them, anyone could. So the quest will be to discover that information, instead of unlocking abilities, you will reveal tips about how to acquire them. The thing is that this is how things are in life too, at first it might seem impossible to do some things, and if someone helps you and tells you how, you can do them. Later on, as you grow older and obtain a larger skill set, you can do a lot more things that the young you never imagined, even if nobody shows you how, because now you have the tools. Knowing how to control this heat flow to draw certain less random shapes will be the correspondent of these tools you acquire in life. The philosophy behind these particle movements, the correspondence to "life", this is just a bonus. I know i already learned stuff while playing with it. For example i realized that the way i do things in general affected my ability to create certain fine tuned shapes in this simulation. Now that i read your description, i realize that that i am absolutely horrible at telling someone things not directly in their face, my social life got destroyed because of that, and thats also why i was unable to discover the technique you described! ..this is indeed amazing, if just a simulation can teach me about myself so much.
  11. :))))))))))))))) well its an improvement from the initial randomness to this. I wonder how controllable this thing is given enough time to learn it. I discovered that you can actually "scare away" particles of established stream paths , with short fast countermoves, same way you can kill someones enthusiasm momentarily even if the overall direction and drive is still there. This can be used to "erase" certain canvas parts. The particles are always the same in number, so if they are not in a place, they are in an other. If you find out other tehnicques pls share. Also you can actually write stuff, letters, or one line continous symbols. Even if not visible at first, because they are one line, the created flow will attract particles slowly. You can also speed up certan areas, remember the canvas in its own has memory even if no particles on it, so you can tran spots and feed them later. The resemblance with the outer world are probably not so shocking afterall, because the mechanism behind this animation follows same concepts, its just easier to visualisize.
  12. i discovered there are certain techniques that can help obtain more accuracy, but its not easy. Its certainly a thing that can be mastered eventually, hopefully fun and not frustrating
  13. UPDATE: Post here your creations for the contest. Upvotes count for the score. There is one section in md that is waiting for more than a decade for a page. Here is an experiment worthy of the wait i hope. Concept: all your actions create unstoppable consequences. You may revert or stop your actions, but the consequences they created keep happening. Events are not singular dots on the map of things, they are streams with certain shapes. Heat-based magic uses your heat to create eent streams, unavoidable circumstance, in both past and future, that make things happen in a certain direction. Interface ... i will le others share this first The first person to have access to this experimental interface for testing purposes is Ailith. (was simply the first person that responded, when i decided to make this public) Feedback is welcome, images soon.
  14. ten years later, but time is for mortals not for kings, so this is like yesterday AI drew this, you are welcome to do better "The Wonderous Bovine"
  15. Please be so kind and post whatever images you have about your creation here on the forum, not on external links that expire, (or one storenow, that wont expire easily), because i will review this topic once in a while and grant awards when i will check it. Can be hours after you post or years, but when i check , i review all from the past too. Nothing gets ignored eventually.
  16. who is Chew? the guy that made me read this huge post Its amazing, and useful, to see the view on roleplaying of one of the most, if not the most, trusted friend in MD. I would like to add a bit , to your already valuable content. Its my personal view, and i think there is no set rule for roleplaying, but multiple styles and purposes, so someone reading all this, might find useful guidance in what one or the other says, depending what fits best with his own style. I prefer working down a role from an attitude. For me a role is a state of mind, an identity, an attitude. Its part of who i am, or what i could be, and its starting from this coherent thought, that everything else is built. As I play a role, i discover who I am, what the character does is sometimes a surprise even for me. You need to discover it, not to adapt as you go.. big difference. For this, you need to be honest to your self... and thats hard. Like you say, its important to know where you start, where you stand, and what your purpose is. Attitude, personality, fears, desires, all that builds up a character, must remain constant. If they are not stable, it means you are not playing a role truly, but a mixture of roles, and thats not healthy. Each role you play, is a playground, a sandbox of your own mind, that allows all the other parts of you to discover and analyze the forces that put you in motion. In my view, a view that drives the purpose and motivation behind this project, a role is not a place where you can hide, or a mask that makes you forget about who you are...but an opportunity to discover yourself through the eyes and confirmation of the others. When someone asks for a role ...because it happens a lot that people actually ask for roles..i tell them they will have it when they already achieve it on their own. If they need to ask for it, they don't have it, and if they don't have it, i can't give it. Your role, is not something that someone in md can "give" you, however its something you can grow and build your own. Again, thanks Chew for reviving at least part of the roleplayer in me
