Click on Creature in Summary Report
Fyrd Argentus replied to Fyrd Argentus's topic in New interface issues
Well, it behaves nicely. What it does is changes the page back behind the window, so that when you exit the battle report, you are at the creature page. I would have expected the battle report to close its window by itself when you click on a creature, but this works. -
Description of Vampire skill has a number of typos: "CORRESPONDING enemy SLOT", "creatures in different SLOTS" (plural), "eachother" (no space)

TO DO LIST, phases 1 & 2 Current Request: If you want people to get {more of} a "role-play" mindset about the game from beginning: Add leading questions to the start-up panels to get new players thinking more about the character they wish to play. DONE If you want to have helpers respond immediately to a new player: Have arrival of a new player trigger Storm weather and put out a red system-wide message that "[Player-Name] has washed ashore on the beach of Gateway Island." {Let's leave to last so my TestPilotX alts don't annoy people.} DONE Current Request (Chewett & now Mur): If you want people to enjoy the riddles (and get enough reality shards): Fix or block the riddles that are broken DONE If you want things to look professional: Upon return to the beach, do NOT show the error message that 'you don't have access to this clickie' (related to the vanished rider figure). DONE! If you want things to look professional: Upon return to the arena after beating all opponents, do NOT show the Bacon Knight avatar (and accompanying error message that you don't have access to that clickie). [Note: on first entry the the arena, the knight is painted in before the backdrop. On subsequent entry, the backdrop is painted first. This correlates with the error message etc. and may help debug this issue.] NEEDED: If you want the realm to look cool in all details: Upload images for the non-illustrated tools. The only usable item without an image is the "Axe". Note that all other tools were replaced with "Old Whatever" versions with images, but not the axe. As of 2022/01/12 it is still giving out (plain) "Axe" which has no image. NOT NEEDED: If you want to avoid resource soft-lock: Have the tools re-appear in their starting positions when used up. Reduce the number of uses in half. DONE {Instead, put a hint about rare resources like crystal on the tools sign.} DONE If you want a richer, story-based tutorial: Change the "A Curious Box" to explain about the scattered shards of the player's existence, the mission to reform their character's self image, and introduces the first companion spirit (that will animate a creature of your choice). It also activates 15 new one-time clickables (to give total number as starting slots) which we must add. Have them glow orange until activated and give a sparkly bit of magic and a sound when activated (then disappear). These are seashells, bird nests, bottles on the beach, etc. Write a tutorial with each that a companion spirit (new creature slot) brings also AP's, VE's, a stat or a power-up to help reintegrate the person - and explains a bit of what that thing means. It's probably not worth the effort to actually link stats etc. with the finding of these things, but it would be nice polish -- let's leave it symbolic for now. NOPE, STILL NEED: If you want things to look professional: Make sure the "free RP item" post is not giving error messages, ever. Debatable if needed: If you want to avoid total frustration in OCD types: Either remove resources that can't be accessed (like Mineral Water, Skull, Memory Stones) or give tools to collect them. {Somehow, Fyrd had mineral water. Was if from before, given when summoned back, or did he stumble unknowing on a way to get some on GWI? paper making with regular water is a.... lesson in patience.} DONE If you want action point usage to make sense: Get rid of the indicators that say the bark press and paper machine have AP costs - they do not. GOOD ARGUMENT AGAINST MADE: Also, disable the barrel clickie in the cave that currently glows orange on mouse over (and gives AP costs), but does nothing -- or else make it do something. {Well, if there are no other plans, make it one of the 16 tutorial clickies. Duh.}

{UPDATE: This IS now a sanctioned project.} This is a more detailed fleshing out of the PROPOSED project laid out in Game Development. This is placed in the Legend Speakers section of the forum, so that I have Moderator abilities to move and reformat things as the concepts evolve, and possibly some of the work gets done. New ideas that are not really directed towards the goals stated in the proposal should go in the New Ideas portion of the Game Development forum. https://magicduel.invisionzone.com/forum/8-new-ideas/ Your comments here may be moved around and assimilated if I see how they enhance the grand design.

The idea is to get hold of at least one item that starts with each letter of the alphabet. This is a spin-off of the memory game "I packed in my Grandmother's trunk...." and each challenger recites the growing list then adds an item with the next letter of the alphabet, only here you must assemble the list with inventory items. Caveat: I do not know for sure that every letter of the alphabet is represented! Present yourself with your inventory for inspection (loans are okay) to Fyrd Argentus to win a prize. Maybe a pickle, an odd item, or even a colored critter while supplies last. Have fun!

Currently you get a cymbal "thunk" when anything happens in chat. Imagine spells that could control your sound, or that of others. Choose the sound, and who is affected, and maybe duration. Fyrd wants flatulence. Ssclorp wants a distinctive swallow for RP. You could curse your enemies, give them a cough or sneeze. The possibilities are endless. And you could have semi-automatic changes, for people speaking as toadspoken, ghosts, or invisible admins.... And crickets. We must have crickets....

Looks like you've won a gold coin, but we need to see those screenshots. Please send or post. -
Fyrd, Mac OS X Chrome, Very Low Priority First time ever I clicked on a creature from the battle Summary page. You get weird overlay displays, where the "ghost" of the creature page is scrolled up and down over a previous scene. Hitting back buttons gets weirder. Eventually screen refreshes get you out.

GWI Project Manager Proposal
Fyrd Argentus replied to Fyrd Argentus's topic in Get Involved in MD Development
As to the media choice when the time comes - I'm thinking anything already based on typed words, but more "circle of friends" than "paid ads". Reddit may be too broad a strokes. Asking your personal friends on Facebook to read and "like" a page is more the model. When the time comes, I'd ask everybody to reach out to the targeted groups they feel are most likely to be fruitful but not do blanket ads. I confess I know little about discord, tiktok and twitter, or subgroups on any platform. I'm not the expert, but when the time is perfect, I can ask for targeted help from all of you, to try and start a snowball. That said, we do need a targeted place to send people to read about the game. A Facebook page would work. We can chew over options. -
Well, I meant just general organization, indexing, helpful hints, whatever it takes for someone first entering the site to know what it is they are looking at and how to find what they want. Hopefully something more than a "Read Me" file, but that's the idea.

Okay, no interest, not even counter offers. This is closed. I figure I have 2.25 credits invested in each. You probably have RP items you don't want. I will trade a token for any 3 RP items I do not have already, or 2 RP items that fit my requirements. I am looking for anything made of paper, especially documents and books, and anything preserved in some fashion, especially if it is in a bottle. Also, anything that fits my wardrobe requirements, or is musical. I have the following to trade, (as vials of token essence): 1 Kelleth Fire 1 Enlighten 1 Emerald Glare 1 Claw 1 2 Claw 2 1 BloodDrop 2 1 BloodDrop 3 1 Antifreeze I also have 28 token removal gels, which could be traded straight, same price, or used to pull off more Claw 1 and Claw 2's.

No longer interested. Please close.

So, since my return I have been considering what project to throw my obsessive energies into. On the one hand, I’ve realized that my sweeping Lost Path Adventure clickie quest only encompassed lands that MP3 could reach, and that a Loreroot and a GG quest are begging to be created. On the other hand, those would not address the most pressing need of the realm, that being the dwindling population. You all may be slow-boiling lobsters, but my 8-year absence gives me a disturbing perspective. With the GWI project stalled, it would be premature to try to draw in more players. The process needs to be, in sequence: 1) Fix the bugs, soft locks, and polish the rough edges. 2) Create a more engaging initial experience, with better tutorial function to create an understanding/appreciation for the game 3) Only then wage a publicity campaign, focusing on text-based venues like Facebook 4) Deal with wrinkles as we get feedback, smoothing the path of integration. I am hereby offering my services as Project Manager for GWI. I’m not asking for coding tools (yet) but rather for some authority to act as Creative Director, and be able to ask for help to change things without running polls and surveys at every step of the way. An important function here would be to put a buffer between the critical voices of veteran players and the admin/coders doing the hard work. There is little risk in this path, because a) there’s not much I could do to screw it up permanently, and b) change can and will continue, as long as we persist. Am I qualified to take on such a role? If the complexity of my Lost Path adventure is not proof enough, I offer my past RL experiences as PM/QA/R&D driving the technical side of creating a multi-million dollar business unit within a large corporation, small business owner/operator, university adjunct professor, leader of cub scouts and baby soccer, cat herder extraordinaire at various times as committee chair and/or board member at our church, writer, and survivor of fatherhood. I also wasted much of my youth creating and running D&D worlds. Here are some high points of my proposed plan, in those 4 phases: 1) Fix the bugs, soft locks, and polish the rough edges. The riddles must be fixed – they are a major negative right now Tools must be shorter duration, but replaceable to avoid soft lock The arena error messages need to be gone Does anybody make the balloon work? I’ve not managed it yet. 2) Create a more engaging initial experience, with better tutorial function Scenario-setting intro – tell the story of a castaway, marooned in a strange place Ask a bunch of leading questions that help solidify the player's RP character in their minds Door-bell – new players trigger STORM and red admin message, to draw help Recruit more alts to greet and interact with newbies Get some role-play and combat happening on the island Lots more help and explanatory clickies to spoon-feed the cautious players Bling and flashes and action Bird nest talks about creatures Shells scattered everywhere, linked to the newbie power-ups and creature slots Each shell adds a layer of spin/understanding of the energy process “I am the soul of a creature past. I will manifest as you choose.” “Do not fear harm, you are in a place where all that is behind you.” “Be brave. The spirits of your friends will always be with you.” Etc. With a dozen shells scattered around the island, are a tutorial Get some more diverting mini-quests going right there on the island 3) Only then wage a publicity campaign, focusing on text-based venues like Facebook We need an active Facebook page to “sell” the game concept People who engage in Facebook and the like will be more attracted to MD It must accurately pitch the differences and virtues of the game Not an arcade shoot-up, rather a mind-trip etc. etc. If every player got every friend to “like” that FB page, we could get in a wave If GWI is engaging enough at that moment, it could snowball 4) Deal with wrinkles as we get feedback, smoothing the path of integration. We will learn to target our advertising, and reduce newbie surprise The MP3/MP4 training problem might be solved Overcrowding of the space/server resources might be new We might need more resources, RP items generated, avatars, etc. We will learn about hurdles and integration issues and fix them Others with different interests will continue refining other aspects of MD according to their own creative vision. I have some passion for this project. I hope you will all support me in this effort. Thank you.

So we're debating what to do about the broken bookshelves in the MDA. For a temporary fix, let's just have one section be a link directly to MD-Archives.com, one a link to the Forum, one a link to the Facebook page (which incidentally needs to be taken over and revitalized) and the third a menu to other possible related or useful sites such as Discord and other internet resources. The next step would be to make sure MD-Archives.com has the most user-friendly interface & inline help we can give it. Only then should we worry about making a pretty bookshelf facade for the articles.

Fyrd iMac OS X Chrome, Moderate priority In the main chat box, if you type normally the text wraps as you would expect. If you try to go back and insert something in an active line, the text pushed to the right hits the edge of the window and then.... the cursor jumps to the next line as you type. Example. Line length is 55 characters. Type 50 characters BLUE, then go back and add add a word with 10 more RED in the middle of that line. You get 25-5-25 on the first line, then the last 5 of your new word on the next line.

Low priority Fyrd, iMac OS X, Chrome After making bushies near Wind's Sanctuary, you have the screen below. It has 4 links, two clearly back to scene, one "return to inventory", and one just "back". I would expect "back" to take you back to the gardening page to load more water to make more bushies. You have to do this many times if you have much water. What happens is "back" is actually another "return to inventory" (which you did not come to this screen from in the first place, so you aren't "returning") which shows you all your items, and is quite aggravating, but you learn over time to ignore it and cycle through the scene each time.... We need a real "back" button here.

Celebrate the Solstice
Fyrd Argentus replied to Fyrd Argentus's topic in Contests, Quests and Adventures
Everyone who commits NOW to doing a ceremony or presentation or participatory event on Solstice Day will be eligible to receive a special creature. First to commit, will be first to pick (Pipstickz is first in queue, Ungod #2) but you have to actually follow through to get it. The following creatures are available (thanks Lashtal and Lazarus for some donations): 3 Pimped Grassan 3 Colored Tree 2 jokers 1 Fully Grown Shmsh Darkling -
This is particularly an issue when scrolling down through 6 feet (2 meters ) of inventory stuff, then you go back to the navigation screen. You find yourself at the bottom of 6 feet of blank space, and need to scroll back to the top again. You could fix this by automatically starting new screens/refreshes at the top of the window, instead of preserving previous position.

I've seen this before too, under similar circumstances. Reasons given for not getting won/loss counts are wonky. I thought I filed a bug report... Yeah, here it is...

I understand mild and heavy rain do, but storm does not. Maybe it's not meant to be a wet storm, but seems like a bug.

When using silvertongue on a Mac (OS X Chrome), the letter "S" shows as a box, which usually indicates an unrecognized character. Apparently this is not the case on a windows computer.

When looking at other players' inventories, the item descriptions are on pop-ups that always goes DOWN. When you get to the bottom half-dozen items, the popup is chopped off so that you can't read it, because only the portion inside the scroll window is visible. This could be fixed by having it pop UP if you're at the bottom part of the window, or by adding half-dozen blank lines at the bottom of what is being scrolled through.
