Uneducated? Maybe. I prefer to call it different point of view. I find it somewhat offensive that my rejection of such limitations you find uneducated.

I think that those limitations you mentioned is a product of religious groups trying to shut down other ones for X reasons rather than order from deity itself.

For me all those religions are different manifestations of same thing. All paths lead to "Rome".

Ary Endleg got a reaction from Muratus del Mur in Why 15 silver?
I would like to know why is exchange ratio 15 silver for 1 gold?

Is there some sort of stabilizing factor for that ratio? I personally don't see it, since both are used only for purpose of exchange.
Is there some indicator of amount of each type of coins in circulation so that it would have ratio of 15:1?
    OR
Is this just community's stubbornness or will to have solid exchange ratio backed up by nothing that would justify it's agreed value? After all there if it has firm unchangeable ratio of exchange, then both coins will have same buying power even though one type might be easier to come by than the other. This would result in specific people getting upper hand in buying power by working with coins that are "in favor" due to improper rate of exchange. Moreover circulation amount is interchangeable due to the way coins are "minted" from the shop, there are no guarantees that ratio of circulation will be stable ever, so why is the price stable?

In simple words, if it's easier to obtain 1 gold rather 15 silver, then due to that exchange ratio one can profit in buying power because said person can always aim to obtain favored mintage over unfavored one. Hence taking lower effort/expense to obtain same gain.

Once again I don't know IF or which coin type is/should-be favored, but current way of how market works alone makes no sense to me because I fail to see what exactly is stabilizing this exchange price. Somebody point it out for me. If there isn't such thing then my speculation above is correct.

Ary Endleg reacted to lashtal in Ghost spell and Online Character list
Hi, I wish to report a weird behavior in the Online Character list. Nothing big, not even sure it's a bug but thought it was interesting.
[player name] casted ghost spell on himself. The Online Character list showed 'Ghost' instead of [player name] -which is correct- but showed also [player name]'s tag and active days (thus failing to hide the identity of the caster). Moreover: even after Ghost spell was over, the Online Character list still showed Ghost instead of [player name].

    >>Updating too much in the content feed? What does this mean?
i mean its updating EVERYTHING, not just new posts, if i go to new content i see updates for calander all over it. this is frustrating because its cluttering the feed, the search functions alos show it will update on status updates and pictures as well. sorting the feed sorts it temporarily, on leaving the page it doesnt save the sort/filters so you have to reapply them every time to filter out the content you dont want (so that only thread posts are visible) .

Ary Endleg reacted to Fang Archbane in Requesting Shade sentinal to talk
Today, for my 777th post, i have made a difficult choice. For reasons i can not disclose at the moment, i have chosen to begin a new era in Necrovion History, if the Shades that inhabit that land would have it so. I have entered and plan to stay in an Illusion known only as Necrovion Army Reinforcements. The description is as follows.

Gives You 4 Weak But Very Rare Creatures, And Tags You As A Warrior Of Necrovion, Servent Of The Shades.
This Illusion Comes With A Terrible Curse, And Lowers Your Regeneration By -100

As the newest and only current Servant of the Shades, i humbly ask the Shade Sentinel for an Audience with myself and Aethon. I know nothing in this world or any other comes or goes without a price, but my hopes are that such things along with everything else can be set during the audience.

I would like to reiterate that i do not see myself as above, or even so much as equal to the Shades. I am far, far below them, and my request is just that. A request. It is not a demand, but a cry for help. Ill pay any price i must, if it means i can further my own goals with Aethon and those of the Shades simultaneously. I am their Servant. I am their Tool. I am their Weapon. I, am Fang Archbane.

Liberty. Goddamn. You were the one who brought me up and made me stay in MD in my early days. I knew after you made and showed me 50 accounts... you couldn't suddenly quit MD after that. I knew you were way too addicted. All this time I wondered where you were, and I just got my answer now... I don't even know what to say. Shocked.

    You are indeed legendary. Wow.

Almost 8 years after the story about friendship and betrayal (you can read about it here) I come to you with a story about friendship and revenge.

Yes, this is about the TW takeover. Probably most of you know that it was not a bug or an exploit that I used and probably some of you (ex necros - wow! how fun to say this :D - for sure) know how I was able to take it over.

Not to prolong the "mystery" : it was Ary who invited me in.

And now for some background: about 2 or 3 years ago I was casually playing MD when a team quest was announced. For some reason I ended up in the same team as Nimmy and a new guy called Ary Endleg (btw: it's the anagram for Legendary if you haven't discovered by now). I don't remember what happened to that quest but what I do remember is that one day my skype window popped and a guy called "Ary Endleg" added me. At first I was annoyed because I thought he was a noob :D. He asked me to guess who he was. I failed several times. He got bored and told me :D.

We began to chat and to plot things. Our mutual goal was to destroy TW/Necro/whatever resided in that land. And we set up a plan.
    - Get NC citizenship
    - Get in NC hidden forum
    - Get in TW
    - Wait for opportunity to take over TW

First 3 ones were pretty easy and went smooth. Last one was a female dog because the paranoid Necros didn't leave an open spot for the life of the Spaghetti Monster!

Yes ex-Necros! You were sooo paranoid...I had so much fun tormenting you! Remember few months ago when one of you exit the ally and I used an illusion to take on the badge? Sy got to freaked out that she used the tool to remove NC citizenship. Btw: that tool is bugged. None of you noticed that the uses didn't go down. Or...you didn't want to. I had to report it to Chew because you didn't care to. I got in that illusion several times along the years but you never seems to care or to remember. Your memory is short. Waaay too short. You should lose the hive thing :D. It damages you.

Back to the story. I started gaining enough loyalty to always be ahead on azull and have the number so in case of an opportunity to jump right in.
Meanwhile we were thinking of other options in order to get one of you out. Yes, believe it or not I cannot use illusions to take over allies. I can do other stuff but not this. And even after Chewett confirmed it you still didn't believe it. You couldn't believe that one of you was a mole. Believe it! He fooled you to the core!

The first real opportunity showed when peace announced she's leaving the game. But you were right there and replaced her with aeo. Oh well...we missed it. We moved on.

Days passed, both me and Ary and No one and the rest of what I like to call The Team went on with our lives and played MD and did other stuff. Disband one ally here, kill one player there, do a quest everywhere (this one's Nimmy :D), win some other quests and adventures, make players quit, business as usual.

Then one day (Friday evening or Saturday morning? - my mind is fuzzy cause I was incredibly tired that week-end) Ary told me that eara is leaving the ally and she'll be using "wookiee magic". That was our chance. But guess what? I slept from 6 PM until next day at 9 I believe. Poor Ary! He called, he yelled he probably pulled his hair that night. I think he cursed me more than any of you combined.
But we were lucky. Next day eara was out and the free spot was not filled in. So we acted. He invited me in, I got more loyalty than azull and then kicked ALL of ally members out.

Next step: send Mur the e-mail containing the log I pulled 4 years ago :D. That was a brilliant move (yes, I am VERY modest) I had so much adrenaline in me that I couldn't find that damn log (I must confess I am not a very tidy librarian :D). I passed Ary all the logs I had from that period and asked him to search for the piece cause I was unable to :D. He found it. I e-mail Mur and Chewett. I made the post on the forum.
And then the waiting game began.

And things happened. I haven't seen so many changes in such a short time since MD's old days. And they are not over. There are changes still to come.

And who is the one to thank for all this? Ary Endleg. He infiltrated you up to the highest level. He gained your trust. Yes, he did help you with stuff. Meanwhile he kept me updated with your moves :D. He's the best spy in all MD History!

                                                             He's the Legendary [spoiler]LIBERTY[/spoiler].

And now you know the reason for the takeover. REVENGE!

I think the point is, we edge closer and closer to that reality all the time. In the UK for example, we now have advertising boards that scan the crowd in front of them and then deliver an advert that targets the largest population group in the crowd. ID cards and chips are constantly on the cards and under debate. Now it is a rolling rock argument certainly, but the question comes to bear - who stops the rock from rolling? You seem to have absolute faith that humanity as a whole could never go the whole hog, the people who are scared lack that faith. It's sort of ironic you talk about a religious ideal when it is only faith that separates the two viewpoints. If one took a purest view considering humanity's history, the rock is more likely to roll than not.

If you think it is exaggerated ... doesn't mean it didn't exist, only that it beyond your experiences.
Also, you have to consider every single thing/incident can be described in different ways but still being completely true. (apparently contradictory but just different point of views)
And more : if you read a book ... even if it is written on the cover "history" it doesn't mean that it is entirely correct (or faked) nor that it covers all points of views (some can be unwillingly omitted by lack of experience, perspective or details  of the writer).

Believing a writer / book ... it is entirely up to the person reading it / being read to / listening. You can read a history book, enjoy it and never believing a word ... just like reading a science fiction book.

If you can learn something from a book ... then that is indeed your gain. But you should not start reading books without remembering all of the above (that not everything that is written is entirely true nor that it is entirely false ... or something like that).

    ---
Now ... from wiki ... it sounds interesting. From what I understood from your post is that it bothers you that it uses current / recent Earth names.
Would it help if it was not using Earth's geography ? There are lots of SF books with strange & impossible things. Do those bother you ?

I agree and tend to feel the same about the myriad list of similar Stories. Almost all popular Myths (from children's Fairy Tales, to epic novels, to Religious Texts, to the tales told by travelling bards, etc) All have the same "quality" if they stand the test of time. They define "Good/Bad/other" and thus, offer insight to one's self.

Myths are True, not factual, and this relates to the popularity among multiple cultures, of "The Trickster/fool" (The devil falls into this more universal Archetype).
These stories are essentially "Don't do this", and in showing them done, (or in the case of a Dystopian culture, showing them "In Effect") we learn about ourselves. If the reader/listener agrees with the setting or action, that's a learning moment or at least affirmation of themselves. If they disagree, it invites the unspoken question "Why?" in their minds. Even if not consciously asked.

The threads are the same, be they Biblical, or Mythic, or from a different culture.
But the tone is the same. "Here's some goodness" and "Here's some badness". Wrapping those in an engaging Story doesn't change the inner Truth of the concept.
So I agree, that it's merely a Story, updated to more Modern society (or, vaguely historic in the case of 1984, since it's 2016 now).
The factuality is unrelated to it's inherent Truth.

I started reading Orwell's 1984 a couple of days ago and I couldn't go past 5 pages. True, it *was* midnight, so maybe that helped in letting it go, but I realized something the next day.

From what I read (and I know the story, the 'message'- wiki), it was a somewhat correct depiction of the general feeling that people in Eastern Europe felt during the communist years, but it was so exaggerated...It was a painful read and, most importantly, boring.
I understand the term 'dystopia', I understand that it has exaggerations, but such a society could.not.exist. The mixture of elements simply makes such a 'construction' impossible. More believable is Huxley's Brave New World, but that one portrays the human being as just hedonistic, and that is simply untrue. If man craved only pleasure, his book would have never been written. All in all, these texts not only bore me, but seem to me to be simply expressions of fear.

But I remembered the reverse - utopias. And then it hit me - these are just modern (well, modern...there are utopias written from antiquity onward) heaven and hell depictions. Nothing more. I know it seems such a big difference - what's 'punishing your sins in an eternal pit of fire' have in common with 'a totalitarian government is watching you, cameras are everywhere and you can't say what you really think'? well, they're both untrue, for one. also, they scare you and, last, but not least, they give you a wrong perception of what a human being is. It seems so weird to me that all these texts ignore the bigger context - the natural one, and focus so much on the human-created environment, coming up with outlandish stuff.

Now, I'm not particularly interested in correcting people's mistakes or beliefs, but I do have a huge list of books on my disk (and it's enough to visit some bookmarked sites and I can add a few hundreds easily) and for me utopias and dystopias are classified under 'bullshit, not gonna happen' category now. Yeah, I read a short version of the Bible and some sensible bits. To me, 1984 and (let's give an utopia name) City of Sun look like modern Bible bits to me, kind of saying "I dream of..." (and you can have nightmares or sweet dreams).

Anyway, it's a long text, I'm wondering who will ever read this, but if you do, and you have an opinion, you can write it down here, maybe. I am more interested in opinions that disagree with mine, though it is unlikely I will change my conclusion.

Ary Endleg reacted to Aniwaya in number of players online
This is something that may not seem like a big deal to those who have been playing for years but I think it may be something that needs to change for those who are newer or very new ...

When you look at the map, it tells you how many people are online, however that is very misleading as some of the "players" are not actually players at all ...

for instance the other day I logged in and it said there were 134 players online..

It would be nice if the counter would differentiate between real people and the shades etc....

and my own pet peeve... it would be nice if the counter stated how many real players were actually online and how many were idle.

I realize in the grand scheme of things this is most likely not that important and it might actually take quite a bit of time and coding... which I know very little about.... so it would be a nice thing if it could happen, however I also understand if it may be too difficult or may be tossed way to the back of the line due to priorities.

    thank you for your time!

    Outstanding Service to MD
Thank you all that voted for me in this award, I am most appreciative of everyone who felt I deserved to win this year.   Another year goes on, and another awards ceremony is passed. Over the last year some of the changes I have worked on have brought MD another step closer to being a game I can sit back and be proud of. It is also another step closer to AUTUMN2050 but I am proud to say that we are getting quite close to being able to finish off that project (that is close in a MD sense). A lot more of my work has been running the game this year which while great I am still going to be trying to push onto you (this is a game where the players are meant to be able to change :P).   I will take this nomination and award win that some of you (at least) are happy in what I am doing for MD and I shall attempt to continue the work. While my time for MD diminishes as my job/life gets harder MD will always remain in my heart and I shall find time to work on it.   This reward I must thank the players that have supported me in running MD, there are too many to name.   Thank you all.   Most Popular   Thank you all that voted for me in this award, I am most appreciative of everyone who felt I deserved to win this year.   Im a little surprised at winning this award, mainly because many of you know that I can be quite blunt and bloody minded of rules and other such things. For all these faults I do apologize, most profusely. I know I can be like this and am working on it day by day to improve them. Many of these come from my severe lack of time and general mood towards dealing with questions which ideally should be asked to others. Therefore many messages I send can end up being short and blunt.   But I am quite pleased to have been given this award by the public, I have met many friends here and call a great deal of you my good friends. MD has always been a place you to go to and just talk to friends about random and crazy things and I have met some of the best minds here too. Many of you know that I have been here since the beginning, I am very pleased to have joined the game and met you all.   Thank you.
