lashtal got a reaction from Invie in A grand offering to the Shades
On day 364 year 17, a delegation ventured inside Necrovion for an unprecedented offering to the Shades.
Three individuals (Ledah, Nep and The Puppeteer) were taken to the Eternal Toiler, where they sacrificed altogether 50 creatures.
111 fenths were created and left for time to erode.
This outstanding sacrifice was awarded with a spell-doc page for each participant.

Your taks is: Send a photo (single or multiple, that is up to you) of a cake/pie/some desert you are planning to eat during the upcoming holiday! Important, don't forget to put a paper with your ingame name on it in the photo so I can see that you are the author of the photo.
Reward: I will buy 3 cakes (the ones from the Muffin Man at Heresy Lane) to every participant!:)
edit: Deadline is 31 december 2022.

lashtal reacted to Aia del Mana in Of a changing interface and Announcement #5828
I have noted of recent of the implementation of the newfound ability to customise one's interface; that which may alter how one shall perceive of the realm. For those for whom this is unfamiliar, the announcement were henceforth:
     https://magicduel.com/page/Announcement/view/5828

I have spent some time to ponder upon this, and although it may take some time to move the elements to one's liking, I am quite in favour of this newfound ability to do so (many thanks to @Muratus del Mur for this change).

A simple quest, then, but one which I hope will encourage of further improvements:

    1. Change the layout, using the aforementioned feature, to that which were most ideal for thee.
    2. Post of this layout (one would assume the "print screen" key to be of use) within this thread.

Each entrant may, as with all other contests of mine, create as many entries as possible, but where possible, I would that one should edit her own post in this contest, such that each post may have multiple entries within it.

Ah, and of course, prizes must be due for one's efforts, although one could also consider that I am hoping also to use an interface which were optimal; as may most of the realm. I will rate each entry based on its usability - consider, mayhap, if one were creating MagicDuel as one who should work for a portal-maker named for fruit.
The best entry on a desktop (large portal) entry will win their choice of any coloured creature released in the last two years (winderwild, moss, priest, elemental, 16th or 17th anniversary elucubratie)
The best entry on a mobile (small portal) entry will also win their choice of the above.
If the winner is the same for both, I will offer a wishpoint in addition to this.

The most amusing entry (from either size of portal) will also win their choice of any coloured creature released in the last two years, or, if so inclined, an certificate-item redeemable with myself for half a wishpoint (noting that I will only grant wishpoints in positive integer values; one will, of course, require a second for a redemption of this sort.)

Entrants shall have one week, starting from the date of this post. Although they may not contribute officially to the final score, I also encourage votes in support of or against entries that also bring enjoyment.

Maybe I should create a separate bug post for this.. but, the trigger windows is a bit broken, as shown on the screenshot below. This happens even if you change nothing, just click the "d" button and then the "s".

    EDIT 1:
My setup (with misplaced help button because I can not save the layout with it in place):

With the help button in place:

Side note for probable bug - the idle / out buttons do not work with my setups

    Various Improvements to Creature Trading
Many thanks to Tenebrarum who has sparked me into improving how the creature transfer code works. Now it should strip out the whitespace from your CTC's (at either end) which is something that browsers love to add and cause the CTC to become invalid. This alongside better logging should make it much easier to use!

lashtal reacted to Aia del Mana in Of announcement 5784 and the locked achievements
I believe I have met the requirements for the Third Research Depth (Fighter) and (Researcher) achievements. However, the following were displayed when I attempt to unlock the former:

    - noting the achievement requires 40% of level 1 clues and 40% of level 2 clues unlocked

    And the latter:

    - noting the achievement requires 80% of level 1 clues and 30% of level 2 clues unlocked.

Although it is quite difficult to verify which clues were achieved at each level, it appears quite the paradox that one may unlock of 80% of the level 1 clues but not of 40% of them.

For verification, this were my present research library. I wonder if there is an excess of unlisted "test" research entries which are falsely contributing to the requirements.

lashtal reacted to Fyrd Argentus in MDA Student Nightmare
So I dragged a dusty old plush chair out of storage and put it by the grandfather clock.  Bad move.  It appears to be saturated with the anxiety of MDA students from times past.  Every time you sit in it you get a fragment of an image of the things that troubled them, back in the day.  Can you help me put these spirits to rest, and restore calm to the MDA?  It's worth a wish point.
This is going to take some scholarly insight - every time I try to read the material that is revealed, my head just buzzes and I go to sleep...

Fyrd Argentus, lashtal,  Kyphis the Bard, Valoryn, Ailith, Rona
managed to describe a coherent overall image. Some of you where more creative than others, and some put more focus on the symbol meaning and i appreciate that a lot. However, you all put effort into imagining something difficult, so you will all get the same reward, a wishpoint.
In a couple of days when i will be less stressed with work, i want to read your entries again and pick one, or two, that i consider to create the most powerful image, but also the most realistic. Some things you described are not that easy to represent, while other descriptions are less abstract, so more usable.
The end "beneficiary" of this contest is not a MD-er , so i will write on his behalf and tell you what he considers the best entry to be

Else - just one point detailed (1 Gold)
Handy Pockets - skipped (no reward)

    Thank you all for participating!

lashtal reacted to Chewett in Spells being overwritten...
    Thanks all.
    So story time!

Yesterday quite late after I had been busy I was informed that Petrify was not working properly and it had been earlier that day. So I spent some time immediately checking into the code as it was deemed important in the HC. As I was rushing I was checking the petrify item and not the petrify spell. The petrify Item runs for 30 minutes although the code, structure, etc, is very similar. This is important later.
Digging into the casting code I found an odd feature where any spells that run set up a trigger, but then if they are cast on others they are then deleted and re-created using a different set of parameters. Because of name shadowing and a few different variable names this actually caused a bug whereby:
Petrify runs, trigger created with X minutes Petrify deleted from triggers Petrify trigger re-created, with different params and using a new variable This is pretty deep into the code and it looks like it has been around for a while but I have now fixed it. However after fixing it I still didn't see petrify being cast for 30 minutes. This is where I left it as I didn't have time to debug and it was already much past midnight for me.

Today I investigated again and noticed that I had the wrong spell file, finding the correct spell file did indeed show me that the petrify spell follows the same pattern for spell casting. So the petrify spell has never lasted for 30 minutes.

Long story short, Petrify spell level 1 has the standard 8 minute cast duration, it has always been the case. There was a bug that was affecting some items which have a special "longer" duration, but these are now fixed again.
If you have any questions, feel free to post or message me!

    This is correct.
Something to consider, which is why games/etc make some things rarer/harder is that the rarer things are, the more you value them when you manage to attain them. Studies have shown that a lot of the enjoyment in games and in life more generally is attained by getting something through effort. By spending time on something you value it more and get more enjoyment out of attaining it. With games there is an important balance between something being rare, and being too easy and "worthless".

To reference another game, In Pokemon Go some Pokemon can be shiny, the chance is quite low unless it is a special event so they are valued. A lot of players within the community get annoyed if suddenly an event is announced that makes a particular shiny more common, especially if they worked hard to get it. They also don't value the "easy" shinies as there is no skill/effort involved to get them. Some even get quite angry after getting the "useless" common shinies. There are also some players within the community that can't handle the fact that it takes effort to achieve some things and leave, they get frustrated by it. Thats fine, not every game is for everyone.

We actively monitor creatures available/active in the realm when we create quest prizes and similar things, the auction is based on some of the "wanted" items for example. If you think something is impossible/too hard to attain, let me know in a PM and I shall consider what we might do to change it.

"Sanity" was a very appropriately named term for a resource used in this quest, I could definitely feel mine fluctuating
But still a very interesting and engaging quest.
I also highly recommend this to newcomers for the stat boost(after completing Fyrds Bug garden).
