Why you little! It's implied, you little thing, that if I don't say RJ attacked for personal gain, I don't mean that he did. Are you stupid? I say what I mean only, and I only mean what I say. And I say most of what I think, too. Didn't I just say that I didn't care much at all about that, and was only talking about the issue at hand? Why would someone think I'm trying to incriminate RJ when I don't say he's done something wrong? /is happy now after railing against display of irrational thought by Lu.

Man. You sound so cool. </3

No, you obnoxious little sprite who can't understand words. I never said that RJ attacked for personal gain. He might've, he might've not. I'm not sure, to be truthful, because he never explained what sethrynn meant by "random." What does random have to do with helping players? I do know that I randomly attack anyone I can to gain stats. But in any case, it doesn't matter much whether he did or didn't; even if he did, it's officially allowed at this point in the game. The issue is that it's allowed, and that's the only thing I cared to address. Don't say it's not an issue that should matter if RJ didn't attack for personal gain. sethrynn didn't quit because it was RJ who attacked him, but because he thought a rpc was attacking him for personal gain; and that very well could have been even if it wasn't. It's been confirmed that a rpc attacked a weaker player (as in mp3 while the rpc was in mp4) for personal gain only before, and I don't think it's unlikely not to happen again at this rate. I mean, it is allowed. If there isn't any point to it, why allow that? Why allow trouble for nothing? Isn't that an issue?

Players with roles don't need buffs. n_n I mean, the Ancient Ferryman got the ability to transport people near anywhere because of his role. The role is the buff, in a way. You don't want to give people with roles buffs they don't need, just the ability to roleplay their roles and create depth for the game. That doesn't really make sense that I can see, instead giving them unnecessary advantage over the normal players. I don't know any players that have more than one official title o_O What do you mean? Oh, darn, it's back to the emoticons. I better stop that.

Heh, I'm back~ Done with the majority of homework not a week before school starts. I'm surprised this topic is still living. It looks like it's gotten a little away from the topic of sethrynn and his views.. n_n; I have to say, though, that I can understand Faraday's words. Roleplaying, inserting yourself into the adventure log and all such stuff, doesn't appeal to everyone even with the nice bonuses rpcs get. It would be nice to get some more new features for some of the more laidback players. It's reasonable enough for a game to reward active players, but you can't really reprove players who come on every now and then for saying that they aren't really being entertained as things are and suggesting a new feature that would help that issue. The problem I have with rpcs attacking regular players in lower mindpowers for personal gain (I have no problem with their ability to attack all players in general) is that they, the supposed best in the game, are picking on weaker players for easy gains. It reeks of stupidity to me. It just doesn't make sense to me, when all the other concepts (higher mp levels can't attack lower levels, screwed up honor system which is supposed to stop players from picking on people who have a ton of losses, etc) seem to discourage that. You're supposed to be able to surpass the oldest and most advanced players in this game if you have the dedication and wit, yet if the "best players", rpcs, are told they are allowed to exploit weaker players like that, how? Really, I'm looking for a reason (or reasons) they're given the go-ahead, but all I've heard that sounds legitimate is that it adds challenge and realism. Legitimate, but weak. I've already ranted about how I don't see how it makes MD more realistic when in real life there are laws to prevent this sort of thing, nor do I see how even if it does add realism, how that realism makes the game better. I read through the posts since that one, and I don't see anyone saying something to the contrary, or I missed it. As for the challenge, it would make more sense to allow weaker players to attack rpcs without the fear of being attacked back (except for other reasons than retribution) than the other way around. Were there every any other reasons stated? If it's to reward the rpcs, that's pretty lame in my opinion. They're the best; they shouldn't need to be rewarded in the form of easy gain. They should be challenged, if anything. Well! That's my response to whoever asked that quesiton a long time ago. It doesn't seem like things will be changed. I'm (quite bitterly) discontent with it, because it just seems so stupid to allow pointless harm. Honestly, players quit because of this! I would be satisfied if I actually could see a reason for allowing it. But I've said my thoughts and I won't pursue it if no one offers anything to discuss about it; I love MD enough to overlook it instead of quitting like others--though my love is dinimished (greatly) now. I supposed I wanted everything of MD to feel intelligent and innovative. One last thing: I think, at the very least, if rpcs aren't going to be told that they shouldn't attack for the purpose of sole gain, us normal players should be given the option of attacking them back. After all, that would make things more realistic, wouldn't it? Who knows, maybe any future victims would be able to band up with some friends and defend themselves from those "greatest players" if that option was implemented, though the issue would be resolved in any case if it was officially recognized that rpcs shouldn't attack weaker players for personal gain. -end-

A tsundere is a term used to describe a person (I've only seen it used in reference to girls) who at first acts cold and uptight, especially to people who want to become familiar with that person, but eventually reveals a soft side and vulnerability. Or at least that's one way it's used by fan community. There's a wikipedia article on it which probably describes it way better than I do. And yes, I shall get to homework.. >_>

I don't know much about this stuff. For me, the timer doesn't get that inaccurate unless it's been a couple hours of playing. The stats always update when they should for me, and that's when the bar on the little circle under the stats reaches 12 o'clock position. I think it reduces server stress this way. From what I understand, the only counter is never synced with the server time after you first load. It makes sense that the deviation increases with time, doesn't it? You know, because each time the counter lags because of slow loading, it adds to the deviation. And as time passes, the deviation incrementally builds up. Unless you mean the rate of deviation generally increases as time goes on? I thought you said it seemed to be based on CPU usage. Internet connection and memory affect how much time objects take to load, don't they? Do you often have something else running in the background? Other programs, or some other flash webpages in those tabs you have open?

Huh, RJ, no mention of random attacks there. What did sethrynn mean by that? I don't think even if you did attack in this case for purposes other than personal gain it means anything, because it's pretty plausible that it occurs even so. We at least know it's happened once before. I still don't understand the purpose of allowing RPCs the liberty of attacking others for sole personal gain (in contrast to characterization for role-playing or other reasons the power is given), not without at the very least a sort of warning not to on the pain of punishment. Yes, I've heard the "It's just a game" a lot, and it is! A game that people can happily opt out of playing when they feel like some aspect of it is stupid and unnecessarily unfair, as sethrynn did. Am I wrong somewhere? I'm not satisfied when there is no rebuttal to my points and no responses to my questions, and yet there is no acknowledgment of anything I assert either. I have no idea. Probably most people don't really care enough to bother coming out of neutrality or indifference to state their own view because it seems minor. I count only five people total who have said that they are dissatisfied with the game because of the rpcs' position without regulations, myself included. But I think, five is enough to warrant some reply other than the same "deal with it, it's a game" to what we pose.

To the contrary, I don't think Nagisa is really at all that bad; I told my brother that she was pretty cute all things considered when he was bashing her in his sorrow over the loss of Tomoyo screentime. I mean, it's actually slightly gratifying to see a somewhat realistic heroine (in comparison to, say, a childish adolescent who says "Ugu~" a lot, steals taiyaki from vendors and abducts random strangers she clumsily bumps into) and anyway, her behavior didn't really annoy me as much as her high voice. Just, you know, we all tend to appreciate idealism more than realism when it comes to fantasies, right? Ayu-ayu and Nayuki just seem a lot cuter. There is something ineffectual about your apology, you should know. Insincere, perhaps. But I am a mild person who generally takes little offense and only jokingly retorts at most anything, honestly. Oh, I am such a good sport, but it is a tragic flaw I should discard, I think, for to become dramatically angry and hold a grudge at any glib remark does sound nice. It does. By the way, define つんつん. Chilling? That's what google translation says. I forum stalk.. Lu's been nagging me because I spend more time on the forums than homework. >_> Technically, I'm not supposed to be writing up this long post. I actually miss answering newbies' questions. Oh, I used to post a lot too, I guess. But I miss MD. I don't know much about aesthetics, but I'm not altogether sure I agree with your sister's professor. See, "beautiful" to me defines grotesque pictures of monsters as well as anything else; beauty is anything that satisfies some aspect of your taste. Much alike to your sister's professor-definition-of-aesthetics, except the unspectacular can also be considered beautiful. I relate the word "aesthetic" very closely to "beautiful" although somehow or the other it has a connotation of nonstandard, refined appreciation for me, but it's not like I ever looked up the definition until now. It's probably because I found what others perceived as aesthetic to be unusual taste (contrary to popular trend). But I still say the unspectacular can be aesthetic if beautiful. Aqune says grasans seem cute to her. If you ask around a bit more, I wouldn't be surprised if more of the same opinion cropped up. It would be interesting to see the names of such people, and compare their personalities to those who think grasans are ugly and unhuggable. Survey.. poll... Ahh.. stormrunner. Is it me, or is that the classic klutzy-girl-bump-into-boy-and-books-spill encounter, and the second one, a tsundere? That's just my hypothesis, but it looks like they're both astonishing archetypes at one glance. Age-old archetypes that people still find cute, admittedly. n_n; I'm an anime junkie, and I don't read as much manga as I should, so I lack many examples of characters I find cute. I liked Yue from Negima, but I dropped that one around the time developments between her and the 10 year old were occurring. Hnn. Chiyo and Guu are my favorite characters from anime I've watched, last time I thought about it. Huh. Well, I guess they're cute. Umm, this is really getting off-topic, but I was thinking about Shima in Stellvia what with all the talk about girls in anime, and I looked it up in wikipedia, and the article mentions references IB-related stuff. i___i lol.. I'm in shock. I should go back to homework. But I'll probably post some more first.

Bunnies, especially lop-eared bunnies, are cute by my standards as well. Puppies.. I don't really like dogs that much. I like the big furry ones, you know, but the small ones. I might have other reasons for disliking them, but their appearance also isn't very agreeable. Ugh. By the way, would you like to become an adept and worshipper of a bunny ingame? Liquids flow from all of our insides. The blob is okay, not especially cute. Infuriating! How insensitive.. yes, I have a limited vocabulary. I don't remember reading "immaculate" in any of the books assigned to me for homework, but I might've seen it somewhere recently, maybe in one of the recreational books I borrowed from the library recently. I tend to pick up and overuse phrases, idioms, certain words and similar forms of expression from what other people say in conversation or from what I read and from who knows what else because I won't bother to search my head for other influences. Hateful, hateful! I often admit it, anyway; there was no need to bring it out so painfully into the harsh glare of others' scrutiny, I would've said it eventually without any prompting, and I would've redeemed myself with honesty. Words, words. They are always failure, because they shall never fully communicate true feeling. They can only attempt at creating a passing impression, a frustratingly futile imitation, with their vagueness. They are based upon memory, which is just as much a failure as words to preserve sensation, emotion, experience. Yet we make do with what we have, even pleasure at our pathetic artifice. They even serve a sort of function in our mocking lives that I will not attempt to define, because it would require a lot of thinking and result in little I care about. Grasans specifically, then. The first (I'm speaking about levels here) one isn't really that cute. Maybe it's because of the mask on its face. The second one is very cute. The third is still cute, but less than the second. I would never, never attempt to identify all which makes them seem cute or not cute to me, because it's as much subconscious as anything. But I can try, you know. In the same way some find certain features appealing, "turn ons" modern society now uses, there are some things that incomprehensibly seem better to me than others. I think, probably, the most impressive feature of grasans to me is their obscenity: the mindless, mad belligerence in their expressions, the disfiguring fat. The gaping maw and twisted, long tongue of the second is a plus (I might add that the nipples seem pretty vulgar). It really shocks, don't you think? The extreme characteristics translate into a sort of charm, after a while. It's not only their appearance, either. If I imagine how grasans would behave--their lumbering movement, bashing berserker-frenzies, spittle dripping onto some hapless victim, confusion--what I imagine I also find winsome. It's like an acquired taste. Can you comprehend it now? How it might be thought of cute? *sigh* I'm having a hard time, toiling on this effort to communicate. If you want something else, they do look strong in a way. I find other things cute, in other ways. You can note that shades don't really have many attributes in common with grasans. I find ugauga's headbanging thing cute, too. I find the Ebil Black Kitty from Azumanga Daioh cute. As a side mention, I've decided that your native language is English, or you were raised with two languages. Oh, stormrunner. Because I prowl around on the forums anonymously (Lu's shame about being seen on the forums has rubbed off onto me) I saw what you put, before. You know, before you edited. That one comment about this one girl in the manga strip you linked, middle column in third row, was cute? Your taste is below average, offensively so. Come now, Nagisa from Clannad is cuter than that.. and Nagisa is low-ranking in the ideal worlds created by artists.

o_o; Hmm. On wikipedia, you say? Are they still there? I would like to see them to compare to the subject of MagicDuel, because a MagicDuel article really would be beneficial Do you mind pming me the link to those articles?
-
My taste is immaculate, but also highly sophisticated, so don't be offended that those like yourselves cannot comprehend the endearing aspects of such creatures as grasans and shades. Consider the spectrum: Above average---average---below average. An average person needn't be offended if an above average person asserts that he (the above average) is better than the average. It is like this, only the topic is more specific and regarding taste. Honestly, though, I feel a compulsion to attempt to bring you up to my level. What, in truth, do you not see as cute in either creature? Why do you not see the cuteness in every aspect?

I forgot to reply to Treehill. You shouldn't take everything I say so seriously. I was joking at your remark. But reverting to seriousness, I agree that stronger players should be able to attack weaker players--to an extent. There are reasons for mindpower levels, one of them included being that those who are advanced to such a point shouldn't be allowed to pick on newbies when they can progress by attacking players of the same level. Why should it be different for rpcs? I think their powers to attack through mindpowers is reasonable, but not for personal easy and petty gain, and therefore there should be a rule to make sure RPCs know that it's not allowed (only, at least for now, it appears like it is). And I don't really get how the game being a long-term one changes anything related to the topic.
-
So the point of it is to make the game more realistic and fun? It may be fun for the rpcs, but not those who suffer the attacks for the rpcs' own personal gain. If they are allowed to attack anyone they want for that reason, why aren't regular players in high mp levels allowed to attack newbies in mp3? Why doesn't the answer to that question apply to rpcs? It isn't logical to me. /: There is a reason why games usually present a fake world. Games like that are still fun, more fun than real life. I play games mostly because I enjoy them more than real life. Why do games have to take the unenjoyable aspects of the real world and apply them to games? I don't see it. Even disregarding that, I don't think MD would become less fun or realistic if there were some regulations concerning rpcs; you say that "in the real world you have the option to kill anyone , but of course also a penalty for it" yet I don't see any penalty for the rpcs, except disgruntled players. There are laws to help ensure fairness in the real world (that is the ideal, anyway), and there can be laws of a sort in MD too. Players like sethrynn aren't upset just because of the temporary damage done by attacks like that of smart's, but instead because of the pointlessness, stupidity and injustice they see in allowing them. The reason why he quits MD because of this event even though in real life even if he wasn't a billionaire he wouldn't suicide is because he has better options than MD: other games or real life itself. My piece to help answer the questions you asked, and to pose my own.

Depends on which "wiki" you're talking about, for the spoiler issue. An article in wikipedia needn't spoil much, only cover the game system, various unique features and notable other-things. A wiki, in which many people would contribute to a database of information concerning MagicDuel, would contain spoilers--a lot of strong spoilers. The "wiki" mentioned in the topic refers to an article. Wikipedia is a resource of information that is notable; they probably wouldn't allow you to clutter up the system with articles about things nearly no one would care about nor need, would they? Well, I really can't say anything as I'm not an authority on it and I'm only basing what I say on logic and what others have said, but you can try verify on your own and tell us how it goes.
-
Quite offensive, Treehill. I play MagicDuel the whole day quite often. In some ways I can understand what sethrynn feels. Who would want to spend time on a game, even if it has potential and can be changed, if something so apparently pointless and stupid is allowed from the start (well, I certainly don't see much point to it)? I think reasonably, some but not all would want to risk the frustration. I'm not surprised to see proof of it though it's not like I'm happy. One incident may say more than you think, Bootes, and you know well that similar has happened more than once previously without any sign of change since. It's at least nice that he decided to say why he's leaving, so those of us who are left can think about it. He also needn't go to hell, stormrunner. This topic has been moved to General Stuff. If you want to post opinion about rpcs' roles and powers in general instead of responding to sethrynn's good-bye, please use the topic in the New Ideas forum called "Questions about RPCs."

Don't beguile the poor children on the forums to look up "dst" expecting improper things, dst. Oh, how excluded I feel, not being a Brazilian. Welcome anyway.
-
I don't know about flash or php stuff x_x Or even the internet.. See, I looked up "cache" a few months ago when I finally got the willpower to understand what I was advising newbies to do. The only thing I can guess is that you have a really slow connection? Does anyone know the source of the problem, and anything that might help?
-
It's a bit of a silly idea, but you could have a creature, you know, weaker than the rest to be the target, i.e. Barren Soul. That's not too good if it dies within one round, because then your LR creatures will get targeted at that point; not to mention having one more useless creature in your ritual would significantly weaken it. There are some creatures which have low atk/def skill and are relatively powerful, ones that use the power skill for their abilities. If you have a leveled creature like that, try make a ritual in which it is the weakest creature. You should be able to slowly level up the weakest of your LR creatures by targeting newbies or people with low VE and defeating their creatures quickly, within the first few rounds. One hint: if you are using a VE bond, the VE and skills of your profile gets divided amongst your creatures in the ritual. Sometimes, using fewer creatures is better.. but if you're going to use one heavy-damage dealer and only one or a few creatures you're training, be aware that it will take many more battles to train your creatures overall.

Hello. Yes, use the FAQs, my FAQ especially. Very informative. Pretty, too; I considered red and blue for the headlines at one point.
-
Don't mind dst too much He's a very proud person. I agree with you two, and I know that many new players think the same way. Eventually, we all get used to the little frustration, but if it's not too hard to fix and is supposed to be done eventually I don't see why it's not happening now rather than later when it's causing unnecessary pain. It's probably not very high on Manu's list of priority; he often says that the irritations of mp3 and 4 is a way to filter players. I don't really agree that it is a good method, but there's not much for us players to do after suggesting.
-
Hmm.. really, I dunno. Sure, it works well enough for you, because you're, well, you; it's pretty much accepted for you to be genuinely arrogant. But see, if I write it, it sounds so fake for some reason, doesn't it? I imagined my appeal would be a lot more effective especially to those whose first thought is that you sound disagreeably lame. But it doesn't matter much either way to me, so: All Hail The Lord Of Bunnies! (\/) (-.-) (..)(..) All Hail The Bunny Empire! Have you ever heard of I-BID, and wondered what all the hype was about? You're not the only one who is able to get there, but not everyone can. Please, anyone, don't post anything which might be a spoiler.
-
Huh? Aren't I? I'm telling others that you're so pathetically hardworking they should take pity and help you by becoming your adept, if only to bring themselves up with a good deed. Characteristically slow, you are..
